That is interesting, and I agree with you c...Sue,

That is interesting, and I agree with you concerning that thought on humility.

People who demonstrate a humble nature are not out advertising it. But we can recognize it when we see it in the way they treat others and, often, in a willingness to be corrected when they make mistakes. It is a character quality that might appear to be "weak" to some but to others will speak of strength in spite of genuine vulnerability.

With respect to the original request for a definition of the term, I think it is possible that a person who displays a humble attitude could be considered to be engaging in "classy" behavior at that given moment.

HCraig and Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11962442989291080899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516627478339613810.post-69899801644315430222010-11-16T14:23:56.215-08:002010-11-16T14:23:56.215-08:00Heather - What I said about one thinking that one ...Heather - What I said about one thinking that one is Christlike comes from something I heard once that I thought was interesting:

It goes something like - those who think they are the closest to God are often farther away than they think. I'm really not a label-lover myself. It is possible to end up with the concept of classiness being nothing more than a culturally defined soap-bubble presentation rather than anything of true substance. I was just noting that when some use the term, they do not simply mean "has impeccable table manners, a flashy smile, expensive clothing and commanding stage presence".

And the more that they think they are Christlike, the farther away they are from being that.

Well, yes, if you are referring to a Pharisaical "thank God I'm not a sinner" attitude. I do know this, however: the loved ones of those killed and injured during the attacks of 9/11, having met with the President and first lady think of George Bush as a good and upright man. The parents, wives, children of those killed in action, and service men and women horribly wounded regard former President Bush as genuinely compassionate. Obviously, these people disagree with Sue, but I am not at all surprised she made such comments. I think there is room for criticism of George Bush, and I certainly think Sue is entitled to her opinion.
