Under the "WHAT....?" category
Brown University students have just got the Columbus Day holiday changed to "Fall Weekend".
ASU says they won't confer an honorary degree on Obama because he hasn't the body of work to merit one. The liberals on campus are upset and feel his being the first black president is enough. Yup.
***FOR THE RECORD; UPDATE 4/11/09: ASU says they never meant to not confer a degree (sort of like Mr. Obama didn't bow to the Arab King, I think, because there were direct quotes from administration saying "NO way" and direct quotes from libs saying "WHAT? this is a travesty!"), but nevertheless, please know ASU CHANGED THEIR MINDS somehow, very suddenly and completely and will be bestowing a degree on Mr. Obama. Just for the record.

ACLU.....only SOME of its agenda...Quickly read through this list....it's a stunner!
Among the American Civil Liberties Union’s additional issues of concern are the following:
The ACLU seeks to prohibit security personnel at National Football League games from searching fans for weapons before they enter the stadiums. It similarly aims to prevent New York City subway police officers from searching passengers they deem suspicious. (By contrast, the ACLU adamantly reserves the right to have its own security guards search the possessions of anyone entering its New York City headquarters building.) (Z: and a less safe America)
The ACLU was an Organizer of the April 25, 2004 "March for Women's Lives" a Washington, DC rally that drew more than a million demonstrators advocating the right to taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand. (Z: WHY do we have to PAY?)
In recent years, the ACLU has waged an advertising campaign and filed numerous lawsuits aimed at overturning felon-disenfranchisement laws (which bar convicted felons from voting in political elections) in Florida, California, Georgia, and other states. (Z: ACORN....congratulations! Democrats; You just got a few million more votes...putting votes before common sense. GREAT!)
The ACLU sued the state of Florida for having banned publicly funded universities from using state money to finance trips to countries designated as sponsors of terrorism: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.
In July 2006, the ACLU asked officials in a Detroit suburb to reject a proposal that would require businesses with foreign-language signs to add English translations – characterizing the proposal as “unconstitutional, anti-immigrant and unnecessary." (Z: "English in AMERICA? WHAT's the BIG DEAL?" HAA)
The ACLU’s policy guide states that all civil and criminal laws prohibiting bigamy and polygamy should be repealed.
In June 2006, the ACLU filed a lawsuit against the City of Indianapolis because of a newly passed local ordinance that would fine convicted child molesters, predators, and rapists $600 if they were found within 1,000 feet of playgrounds, swimming pools, recreation centers, or sports fields when children were present.
In 2007 the ACLU condemned draft regulations for the implementation of the Real ID Act (H.R. 418), a system (passed by Congress in 2005 and scheduled to take effect in May 2008) aimed at stiffening federal laws to: protect against terrorists’ entry into the U.S.; prevent people from abusing the state driver's license process to obtain false identification; and expand the legal definition of "terrorist organization" and “engaged in terrorist activity,” as those terms pertain to U.S. immigration law. According to the ACLU, the measure would constitute a "real nightmare" for America that “will only lead to a national identity card system that violates personal privacy …” (Z: "Come one, come all...America will be safe because WE LIKE YOU!" OY)
(Z: READ THIS ONE CAREFULLY....your health might be at risk):
In July 2007, the Capital Research Center reported: “With the help of the American Civil Liberties Union, aircraft maker Boeing is being sued by three suspected al-Qaida operatives transported by the CIA to Arab countries for interrogation … The lawsuit alleges a Boeing subsidiary helped the intelligence agency fly the detainees to Egypt and Morocco knowing they would be tortured by authorities there under its controversial ‘rendition’ program. ACLU executive director Anthony Romero said U.S. companies should not profit from a program that is ‘unlawful and contrary to core American values,’ and that such businesses ‘should be held legally accountable.’ The action was brought under the Alien Tort Statute using a legal technique perfected by the Center for Constitutional Rights …” (Z: I can't comment. I'm snarling right now)
In September 2007 the ACLU won a court victory when federal judge Victor Marrero struck down a key part of the USA Patriot Act. At issue was a post-9/11 law that gave broader investigative powers to law-enforcement officials. Reported the Associated Press: "The ACLU had challenged the law on behalf of an Internet service provider, claiming that the law allowed the FBI to demand records without the kind of court supervision required for other government searches. Under the law, investigators can issue so-called national security letters to entities like Internet service providers and phone companies and demand customers' phone and Internet records." (Z: Why's SAFETY such a big deal? There's no terror threat!! Right? OH, there IS? Uhoh!!)
The ACLU has received funding from the Open Society Institute, the Arca Foundation, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Columbia Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. Macarthur Foundation, the Mertz Gilmore Foundation, the Minneapolis Foundation, the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation, the Open Society Institute, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Scherman Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Columbia Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the JEHT Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, the Lear Family Foundation, the Public Welfare Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Woods Fund of Chicago.
SO....there you have it, folks...the ACLU, only part of their plans. What do you think!?
Which IRKS YOU THE MOST?
(thanks for the info, P!) Z

"We will not be SILENT?" What?
NEW YORK (AFP) – An airline passenger forced to cover his T-shirt because it displayed Arabic script has been awarded 240,000 dollars in compensation, campaigners said Monday.
Raed Jarrar received the pay out on Friday from two US Transportation Security Authority officials and from JetBlue Airways following the August 2006 incident at New York's JFK Airport, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced.
"The outcome of this case is a victory for free speech and a blow to the discriminatory practice of racial profiling," said Aden Fine, a lawyer with ACLU.
Jarrar, a US resident, was apprehended as he waited to board a JetBlue flight from New York to Oakland, California, and told to remove his shirt, which had written on it in Arabic: "We will not be silent."
He was told other passengers felt uncomfortable because an Arabic-inscribed T-shirt in an airport was like "wearing a T-shirt at a bank stating, I am a robber,'" the ACLU said. (Z: well put)
Jarrar eventually agreed to cover his shirt with another provided by JetBlue. He was allowed aboard but his seat was changed from the front to the back of the aircraft. (Z; Well done)
Last week, nine Muslims, including three children, were ordered off a domestic US flight after passengers heard what they believed were suspicious remarks about security.
Although the passengers, eight of them US citizens, were cleared by the FBI, they were reportedly still barred from the AirTran flight. (Z; bravo)
Security has been at a high level in US airports since the September 11, 2001 hijacked airliner attacks against the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington. (Z; gee!)
However, rights groups and representatives of the Muslim community say the security measures have led to frequent discrimination and harassment.
Z: Wait! SO HE can wear "WE WILL NOT BE SILENT" but WE can't complain that that message sends a questionable message to us? Why's that?...HE has FREE SPEECH, but WE CAN'T REACT? .........is that the message, or................ WHAT?
What do you think? NOBODY wants hurt feelings of innocent muslims but.... wouldn't you think they'd go out of their way not to say or do anything provocative in light of the problems America's had? Just try? Can't airport security err on OUR SIDE? And then why can't the 'harassed' say "Oh, man, I never thought people would take that the wrong way. I'm so sorry, I see why people were upset; but we don't mean harm to anyone."
How ABOUT that? That's what I would say.....

Is it only THEY who are "ANGRY?" Ya THINK?
We're told we make mus lims mad and then they become terrorists. You've all heard that. (did you hear Deepok Chopra the other night, only to name one of many?)
Some vociferous people from the American Left accuse America for having provoked your normal, everyday mu slim in Pakistan and Iran and wherever else they spawn isl amist murderers.
I'll admit it....Yes, I imagine mus lims get angry when they see Abu Gr aib and Git mo and the wars. Fine. One can almost understand that. Almost.
But...wait a minute! Did the Left ever stop to consider that Americans are angry, too? We don't like to see our soldiers killed, or the Madrid train station hit, or the London bombings, or Yemen, or mus lims marching with threatening posters, or the first World Trade Center bombing and, of course, 9/11 pretty much ticked off everyone..........shouldn't it have?
We're angry, too. You bet. We're angry at Iran for not being forthcoming on their nuclear intentions, we're angry Saddam didn't allow the IAEA in and that he told the world he did have nukes. We're angry he sailed through 16 UN sanctions when only 1 would have put America in pretty deep trouble (with our media, anyway!). We're angry that the thousands of pounds of yellow cake WERE shipped to Africa, as previously assumed, but our media barely covered that enormous story.
Yes, lots of Americans are angry. We're angry at having to take shoes off at airports, the longer lines there, the screening of Swedes because we don't want to tick anybody off, we're angry that every night on the news we hear about more types of terror...this week the emphasis is on bio-warfare....that shouldn't make US ANGRY?? We're angry to see our soldiers told "Ya, sure, you can stick around Iraq until Iraq's tired of you, but please stick around for now to train us and THEN you must leave." (as if any soldier wants to stay five minutes longer than he needs to?) We're angry at the fact that it took the killing of 3000 innocent Americans before mus lims here started telling us we can't ride in their cab with a dog, or they won't cut pork even though they work as butchers, that they only now need their feet washed before publicly praying, etc etc. Why NOW? How'd they manage this stuff before 9/11? Why did it take Mus lims killing Americans to get Musl ims more vociferous and demanding here in America? WHY?
So, what's with our Left and blaming US for the anger of terrorists? Americans grumble and gripe and write articles and have blogs, and we try to right things, but we have virtually no voice at the UN, we can't get the world's media (or ours) to tell the truth....But the BIG THING WE DO NOT DO IS.........
strap suicide bombs on our chests and kill as many innocent people as we possibly can. We don't believe collateral damage is the best kind of warfare, we try to AVOID that.
I'd say that's a huge difference, wouldn't you? They say it could be poverty and we need to pay to bring poor mus lims out of their poverty and maybe then they'll like us and unstrap the suicide bombs. But, they've been poor for years.........why now? Isn't that an insult to Is lam?? I think so.
The left is angry that we've kicked a hornet's nest...........isl amists kicked our nest pretty hard, too, don't you think? Do you know any American civilian who's gone to a clandestine training center to learn to kill innocent people? And, if we did, wouldn't our media blast it wide open, revealing it, taking the people to hearings.....telling the world and chiding US with "WE ARE BETTER THAN THAT?" (couldn't our 'being better than that' and restraining ourselves from fighting back make us, possibly, one day, also far DEADER than that?)
Why is our left so angry at US?
Why is it SO not okay for US to be angry? Or, at least.....why make it seem OUR FAULT THEY are SO ANGRY?
Just a thought. You got any on the subject? Oh, and you know what? I'm thinking that most Mus lims are pretty angry, too. I'm thinking that most do NOT strap suicide belts on and wouldn't dream of it.

Good Samaritans were revered..........
.....from the linked article: "The case was spawned by a botched rescue attempt by Lisa Torti, who pulled a friend, Alexandra Van Horn, out of a wrecked car in the Los Angeles area on Halloween night of 2003. Torti claimed she saw smoke and thought the car was about to explode.
Van Horn was left a paraplegic, and blamed Torti's efforts to help her. She sued Torti and Anthony Watson, the driver of the wrecked car, for negligence.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Howard Schwab granted summary judgment for Torti, finding she was immune from liability under §1799.102. L.A.'s 2nd District Court of Appeal reversed last year, ruling that Torti hadn't truly provided emergency medical care."
Would you help someone in trouble if you knew the Good Samaritan Law won't protect you?How can helping someone get a person in such terrible trouble? Where does a society go when the courts rule like this?
WOW.

3 Things on my mind......Do these things irk you?
2. Barney Frank's now saying the GOP attacks on Freddie and Fannie are 'racially motivated'. This attack's right on time, isn't it? Isn't this typical of the Left, the ol' Pelosi/Reid propoganda shuffle: SAY ANYTHING, mention RACE, mention DISASTER, mention BUSH LIED....Doesn't matter if it's true, but American voters HEAR IT!!
3. NBC edited a Dem-bashing skit that's apparently hilarious. They say there were some things that weren't quite right and they had to take it down and edit. Michelle Malkin covers it here. Um...weren't some of the Anti-Palin or Anti-McCain things pretty bad? Check out the cover-up and how NBC.COM closed down their message board when people saw what happened. Read it carefully. Have a drink first.
Don't these things irk YOU, too? That Kenya thing particularly blew MY mind.

Does this irk you??
1. To me, this is a perfect example of Yahoo's bias and the leftist mind. How can they be SO surprised that someone who 'hates war' can support the war in Iraq? "Despite support for Iraq, McCain tells voters 'I detest war'" is the Yahoo homepage headline.
Please, Conservatives who do support this war, if you comment, let us know if you enjoy war, okay? Thanks. And, of course, now there's more....... (Got to expose that mean ol' Conservative!)
2. This, from Mr. Z, who reads the German media on the internet every morning: The German party "Die Linke" (comprised mostly of remnants from the Communist party in E Germany and those from the further Left of the SPD, Germany's 'Democrats', who are traditionally more liberal than ours ever were) isn't hiding the truth like our media does: The party chief, Oskar Lafontaine, wants to include passages from the Communist Manifest of the late 19th century into the party program. This will consist mainly of the following sentiment and all it suggests: "The "bourgeoisie" exploits the working class, and, therefore, power and wealth needs to be redistributed".
Isn't that more or less exactly what Obama (Z: and Hillary and Pelosi), and why is nobody calling him on that what he really is - a communist? Why, indeed, Mr. Z?
To Germany's credit, the SPD, their "Democrats" are very upset, saying Die Linke has betrayed the voters because the coalition is so far Left, nobody wants COMMUNISM, and it's nothing the people had voted for. You think OUR Left would wake up and see what the Dems are pushing these days is Communism, too? Or that our media would have the guts to call what Obama and Clinton and Pelosi are calling for exactly what it IS?
3. I was practicing what Mr. Z refers to as "self mutilation" by watching MSNBC's coverage of McCain at the AP conference this morning. (I like to see what all the news is saying, so I subject myself to most but draw the line at more than 3 seconds of Olbermann).....The AP question to McCain was "Did you find Obama 'elitist' during your 2 years in the senate together?" McCain hesitated, thought, and said "I found him to have different opinions on most everything.." MSNBC then cut back to their news reader who said " and when asked about Obama's elitism in the Senate, McCain said Obama did lean a little towards elitism.." A blatant lie on MSNBC's part. TOTAL lie. THAT irks me BIG time.
4. To say NOTHING about JIMMY CARTER. Shouldn't he be ARRESTED?

Does this irk YOU?

A New Feature. DOES THIS IRK YOU???
Do these irk you, too?: Tell me the truth:
1. Washington state had some big homes set on fire and they called it TERRORISM right from the get go. Why didn't they suggest the RICIN in Vegas just MIGHT be TERRORISM? "Feds are saying today there is no reason to suspect terrorism.' But, let some expensive homes in a wooded area get burned and some guy left an ELF sign there, and IT'S DOMESTIC TERRORISM! Damn those DOMESTIC American terrorists!
2. Muslim women at Harvard are going to get a few hours in the gym to exercise so no BOYS can see them! Yes, no men can exercise during that time. Of course, the school only suggests it's on a 'trial basis'. TRIAL being the operative word if they had NOT given in to this. Try having Christian or Jewish women OR men suggest THEY'd like a little time free from the prying and lacivious eyes of the opposite sex!
3. Students who must eat 'government food' at public and private schools should not be made to feel ashamed, according to school officials (never mind that the parents who do scrape together the little money needed for school lunches should feel duped), so, to prevent the children who might feel embarrassed, the schools are bringing in famous ATHLETES to eat the food, too! "You're not alone!" No child should feel humiliated, but isn't it deprivation and difficulties which have made THE greatest achievers in our country? People wanting to do better than their parents, people wanting to show they could do better? "BETTER!...does that mean you might feel pride, make a good income for your family, make more MONEY? Isn't that a rotten thing to do? And, if you DO make more money, you MUST give it to the government or the poor.....or just who do you think YOU are?" See a trend here?
Update: NOW THIS REALLY IRKS ME. A mother from the school in question called into a radio show today; she said "ashamed? humiliated? these kids feel none of that. They feel ENTITLED".
So.......is it me, or.................?? And what can we do about it?
