Germany ...the truth from a German; future America?

This is from my adult stepson...For years, he was dubious about my husband and my warnings about what could face Germany and America ...... he didn't want to believe a lot of what he heard, he was more liberal ..... but he's reading more, listening more, and getting fed up these last few years, and he wrote me this on Tuesday:   (I have to admit to editing only very slightly to make it 100% understandable...his English is excellent):

You know that Europe is falling apart. Like the lefties in the US, the German government passes laws when everybody else is watching the European soccer championship to make sure that this happens unnoticed.   (Z: sound familiar, folks?)
They also want to pass laws that would transfer the sovereignty of unlimited financial powers to Brussels with a clause that says this can never be stopped!!!  (Z: more familiarity?)
The (educated and interested) people are pissed big time that the established parties (from Die Linke (THE LEFT), the Greens, SPD and the formerly conservative CDU) are doing everything they can to sell out and destroy Germany  absolutely on purpose with the unrealistic hopes of trying to save the Euro, with a major lack of reality in general and with the awful massive immigration we have now.

Some are writing that there will be a civil war in the future when even the dumbest people realize that they have been framed by the people betrayers call politicians and parliament.  Actually I think this is not so far fetched.

Even (a friend) Walter who studied social pedagogy (a study of which usually brings people automatically to the left) recently said that he expects major trouble in some time and made remarks that really surprised me. Whenever I said something against immigration and the crooks of politicians he always stood up for them.  Obviously, he has changed his mind to some degree which I consider almost a miracle because he was so far left.

I told my uncle to blow his money for things he enjoys - it won't be worth anything soon. At first he denied it, now he agrees to it. He has the same opinions like we do and he only watches the left on TV because what's always on is the leftist, politically correct media. It really speaks well for him that, in spite of the TV he has to watch, he has sensible opinions because he reads and hears between the lines, somehow getting to the truth in spite of the left's mainstream media. (Z: enter conservative blogs and COMMON SENSE?)

So, that's Germany today.  Sound familiar?  Our whole world needs a LOT of help.
By the way, my stepson also tells me that the level of violence from immigrants on Germans is rising at astonishing rates.........he's taking Martial Arts, etc......Germans have been killed in the subway system, etc....things are getting tougher and tougher in that beautiful country.  They've had muslims with their faces hidden on TV interviewed, saying they think Germans are a joke and thanking them for all the money they give to them, saying how stupid they are for doing so.  They have NO respect for the country and think their politicians are total pushovers..........it's so sad.

Danke, Jungen..

Germany's reaction to Obama...."you've lost that lovin' feelin...."

I emailed a very dear friend in Germany, a business man with whom Mr. Z dealt, and asked him what Germany's saying now about Obama.   He wrote back today about what he's reading and seeing in Germany and this post today, below the image, is all his. His English is obviously very good and I only changed a few things that you might not have understood.  Many Germans bought into the glamor and 'hope' but I think many of you will remember that, while the American media said Germany was glowing under Obama's spell as he spoke in Berlin, many Germans found it inappropriate that any American candidate would campaign there, particularly asking to speak at the Brandenburg Gates (he was turned down and wasn't happy), where only the highest Germans ever are allowed to speak. When I said to Mr. Z "But look how many thousands are out there to see him" he reminded me that on a rare warm night in Germany, anybody will come out for free food and rock music before any speaker. But, many Germans, of course, mostly the very left-leaning intelligentsia at the big papers and magazines like liberal Der Spiegel, loved him..HOPE! CHANGE! Hurrah for America! (remember, many of them only have the Int'l Herald Tribune to read in English, which reprints their owner, the NYTimes' articles so they don't get all the truth). The latest Der Spiegel cover, provided to me by my friend, is here along with Klaus's review of what even very liberal Spiegel is now saying:

P I T Y   (SCHADE means PITY...or "How sad")
Obama's failed presidency.
Obama- a President of Disappointments

He is responsible for the big "Graben" (fissure) between the Americans and the demerger and schism of the American society. The article names many of his failures and shows that he did too many promises that he didn't keep. He failed with his so intensively announced  project of national reconciliation, on the contrary, he has contributed to America's split. The cultural struggle has strengthened, rather than to (become) calm during his presidency. But the Republican-dominated House of representatives makes it extremely hard for him and in such a climate, no president would have the opportunity to shape the world to his wishes.

Consequently, for many citizens Washington became an object of hate, the epitome of mediocrity and botch-up.  Many are willing to reckon up his deeds (ignore the problems) with his charisma, what is irrational and naive. He has stylized himself to the noble knight of the change. CHANGE stood on his flag.. His slogan "yes, we can" went around the world , but in America now the feeling prevails - even with his adherers and fellow party members, that he simply didn't deliver and perform on many fields.

What I notice in the financial economy and with my many international contacts is pretty alarming - at least for me.  Many of these guys fear that Obama could win some terrain in the last months so that they believe he'll be re-elected.
What a creepy vision !!  **  End of Klaus's input.

Thank you, Klaus, for your overview of the Spiegel article and the sense you're getting from those you talk to.  It is alarming, you are so right.

Chris Adolf Christie?

HERE is quite a piece about union people calling Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey "Adolf Christie".

The gathering at which that was used opened with “Good afternoon brothers and sisters. Welcome to Nazi Germany.”

If a Republican said "Barack Adolf Obama" about anything, how long would he be in his job?
Actually, I could be in trouble with Blogger for even having written that.......you all know that.

And check this out, more that was said at that gathering:  “It took World War II to get rid of the last Adolf Hitler. It is going to take World War III to get rid of Adolf Christie. Are you ready for World War III?

Were they going to pass out guns after having said that, or...?   And, is Janet Napolitano going to list the unions, as they have far-right Conservative groups, on the Homeland Security Watch List?   And, by the way, why don't you hear the term 'far left Liberal groups'?

that's all.  Nothing much more to say, is there.

Multiculturalism....how's that working for Western Societies?

This is absolutely horrible.......MULTICULTURALISM doesn't WORK.  What more do we need to understand this?

Pretty bad, isn't it.   Can you comment without slamming all Muslims..or all of the French? You know  all of that can happen here.  Can you comment on the video and give constructive ideas for solutions?  Could Christians and Jews meet with Muslims to get them to try to stop the worst among them?
thanks..

MultiKulti isn't working in Germany.........Merkel finally speaks out

Angela Merkel, is the most courageous World Leader in Western Society........Have you see THIS STORY?  I'm glad Merkel is addressing the statement that brought such controversy, from a German Central Bank member, that the country was being made "more stupid" by poorly educated and unproductive Muslim migrants.  Which it is.  I've known about the controversy for months because my stepkids live in Munich and we all have wondered how Merkel would finally handle it.

Germany has every right to suggest that people without Christian VALUES (not having to hold to the Christian faith, nobody is saying that) are not lending anything positive to the country and haven't for years, in fact they're bringing it down in many ways.

Read this:  "Horst Seehofer, the leader of the CDU's Bavarian sister party, CSU, who represents the right-wing, recently said Germany did not "need more immigrants from different cultures like the Turks and Arabs" who are "more difficult" to integrate."    "more difficult"?   they don't WANT TO INTEGRATE.  I've seen this countless times in Germany, I've lived there, I KNOW this.  I've spoken to some immigrants; they like being supported, they're not there to integrate!  I know for a fact that they speak out about how Germany will no longer belong to Germans soon (and, of course, when Turkey is finally in the EU, God forbid, because passports are not necessary between EU countries, those muslims will finally fill even the small mosques being built in German villages with little or NO muslim demographic in them now, which Germans have been wondering about for years.."Why here?"  Because hoards are coming, that's why....)

Arabs, Muslims, Turks, Pakistanis, etc etc., have moved in and live on welfare from Germans and don't learn the language and  build ghettos and demand respect and pity.   And Germans, I guess, just have to suck it up.   And of course,  there is THIS.   The minute Germany says the slightest thing about difficulties between people there, they're accused of a rise of a Fourth Reich.   Odd that muslims have lived there for years and there hasn't been much trouble from naive Germans but the Germans will be the people blamed for the fact that they're not welcoming "DOWN WITH GERMANY" sentiment on signs at protests.   Why doesn't THAT ever get much notice in the press?  Why is it always the host country which is finally falling apart from the financial burden and from the nasty threats which is demeaned in the media and the rest of the left wing?  By the way, I got an email from my stepson in Munich today telling me that many high-caliber FOREIGNERS in Germany share Merkel's opinion.

Maybe, someday, we'll get those foreigners who love and support Germany speaking out and our media will let us know that, too.  Ya think? Germany, Austria, France, they can do NOTHING because of the left.........Vienna's trying to stop minarets from ruining their country amid signs by muslims threatening Austrian life as they know it, you all know what's happening in France regarding the burka, hijab, etc........now you finally hear about Germany, but did you know how threatened Germans have felt for years or are you just now hearing that they are FED UP and the media and other leftwingers are now more threatened by THAT than muslims?  What German would have particularly CARED if Muslims just came legally, contributed financially, and lived their lives as guests in a wonderful Western country?   What Austrian would have, what Frenchman?  But, the implication is it's THEIR FAULT multiculturalism IS NOT WORKING IN THE WEST?  REALLY?   Good for Merkel...my stepson thinks she'll get nowhere and receive nothing but disparagement from the outspoken bleeding-heart, naive left, but, at least it's a try.  Imagine what Germany's put up with and it's HER FAULT now?  WOW.

Obama snubs Germany AGAIN

Obama Snubs Berlin Wall Ceremonies (from Newsmax)

President Barack Obama's decision to spurn German President Angela Merkel's invitation to attend ceremonies commemorating the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago is "the most telling nonevent of his presidency."

That's the view of National Review Editor Rich Lowry, who notes that Obama has visited more foreign countries than any other president during his first year in office, yet has begged off going to Berlin to celebrate the Nov. 9 anniversary because of a crowded schedule.

"It's hard to imagine any other American president eschewing the occasion," Lowry writes.

"Wouldn't Obama at least want to take the occasion to celebrate freedom and human rights — those most cherished liberal values? Not necessarily. He has mostly jettisoned them as foreign-policy goals in favor of a misbegotten realism that soft-pedals the crimes of nasty regimes around the world.

"During the Cold War, we undermined our enemies by shining a bright light on their repression," Lowry writes. "In Berlin, JFK called out the Communists on their 'offense against humanity.' Obama would utter such a phrase only with the greatest trepidation, lest it undermine a future opportunity for dialogue."

The Berlin Wall came down because the free world, led by America, stood resolute against communist tyranny. But for Obama, "we are less an exceptional power than one among many, seeking deals with our peers in Beijing and Moscow," Lowry observes.

"Why would Obama want to celebrate the refuseniks of the Eastern Bloc when he won't even meet with the Dalai Lama in advance of his trip to China?"

Z: I've said this for a year now; Obama keeps dissing Germany and it has something to do with how they didn't allow him to campaign at the Brandenburg Gates .... and now it has to do with how Germany was about the only country not to follow his advice regarding huge stimulus packages and they're doing better than any country in Europe. Every foreign dignitary first goes to the capital city of a country being visited and Obama has declined all invitations of Merkel's to Berlin in spite of his being in Germany, which is a breach in protocol and a terrible embarassment to the United States. Oh, well...........this is how Chicago thugs play. "Don't mess with ME, babe." They hear you, Barry.

Oktoberfest has started in Munich

Anybody want to go? :-) (Shameless pandering to my male readers here, I know!)

If you read THIS, you'll really NEED A BEER. (Yahoo doesn't have this story yet Sunday night while I type this, of course...thank goodness for The Guardian, which seems to always scoop America on stories the American media'd rather hide)

Mr. Z's Opinion....Can we, should we, learn from Bavaria regarding islamist extremists?

From Bavaria, Germany comes a model every country could benefit from in the fight against Islamists: Information comes out that, last year, Bavaria expedited 63 islamist extremists back to their countries. Some others could not be shipped off because they could possibly be facing the death penalty in their country – sending them back under such circumstances is not permitted by German Law (which, I might remind everyone was inspired by the American Occupation Forces in Germany). But, those extremists who can't go back home remain under very close observation in Bavaria and cannot leave the place where they are living except to appear at a police station once a day.

Classified as extremists are hate preachers (the Germans are allowed to go into mosques and have found many imams preaching death to Germans, etc. I believe Americans still can't do that) or persons who are a threat to society (i.e. having shown that they have exhibited the will and expertise to undertake an attack at any time).

This information is from Bavaria, which represents about 15% of the German population. Other German states may not have had this same rate of arrests but are very active in this regard, too.

Z: We in America, of course, are hand-tied by those who just can't imagine any imam would preach attack-inspiring or otherwise-threatening talk against us here in this country. Can we, too, err on our side by possibly arresting and expediting back home an islamist or two in order to protect millions of innocent Americans or is it just too unkind and would that perhaps threaten the rights of terrorists in our country? What do you think?

Priscilla's Post (it's been too long since we had one, right? Well, it was worth waiting for) I have added Klaus's response from this morning

Priscilla writes this to Klaus, our friend in Germany who, with Mr. Z, wrote that post about how Germany would handle czars and health care bills if they happened to have that going on there now (just a few posts down) Also, at the end of this letter, I printed the email I just received from Klaus to Priscillla. Of course, I believe both writers here are speaking to us ALL, so I'm printing as they come):

To Klaus, (THIS PACKS A PUNCH, FOLKS....READ ON!)

What we have at the head of our government are thugs. They're shredding the constitution and the spirit of what is the American way.
We might as well have been taken over by a coup d'etat. The politicians in congress should respond to these tactics with a mutiny.
But, they go along, either because they themselves are physically afraid, or afraid of what information may be trotted out about them or against them. That's called blackmail. Thugs rule. Thugs "make you an offer you can't refuse"!
You should know that the American people elected this man, I believe, in an emotional, well meaning desire to make things right with the making of an historical first in America; A black president who seemed to be the genuine article in terms of wanting the best for America.
They ignored his associations, lack of experience, and could not see what many others of us saw. A man who rose too quickly to prominence from seemingly modest circumstances. A man who, in a substantive sense told us little of what he believed, and what, specifically, he wanted for America.
He repeated his mantra of “change” and “yes we can”, so that I think there was almost an hypnotic call to believe in him, but they did not ask, “change” to what? “Yes we can“, do what? I must tell you, for me, it was rather frightening to see a mindless response of millions of people. It has happened before down through history, and once again has been repeated. Yes it is indeed a truism, history does repeat itself. Not long ago, it happened in Venezuela, before that, years ago, in Cuba. It is nothing new.

But, in America? The land of the free? Yes. The reason being, people believed what they wanted to believe.

There were revealing moments. Many of us took note, many more did not or dismissed the naysayers. They wanted to follow this piper, and follow they did.

We have checks and balances in our form of government, but because there is one party in power, in two branches of our government, they hold sway, and the most powerful among them are of like minds with the President. So, they trample over our system and the American people with breakneck speed, before we can absorb information and engage in debate. We are lied to, misled, and overwhelmed. They are thugs.
More and more though, we see resistance to this leadership, and signs the people are waking from their apathy. I hope and pray it’s not too late. Our children deserve the same legacy we inherited from our mothers and fathers.
And that is simply, to be a free people, unencumbered by those elected representatives we have given the honor of not ruling us, but, serving us, and respecting us.

I have a request of you and your people. Pray for us. America as we have known her, is in jeopardy, and we are in need of strength, and God’s grace.

Thank you, Priscilla. Thank YOU, Priscilla.......I know you speak for a lot of us. Here is Klaus's email I got this morning, Thursday:

Dear Priscilla:

I read your detailed comments with great interest. Thank you so much. Here, from Germany, I'm obviously not as close to the daily political events in the U.S. Nevertheless, I also recognize from here what political hazards the people in the United States have to deal with at present.

However, I am of the opinion that with all the disastrous events, a distinction should be drawn whether they are GOVERNMENT-caused or SYSTEM-caused (existing law, constitution, rules, guidelines etc). System-caused dangerous and fundamental errors and deficiencies, established, approved, or at least tolerated by all political parties , cannot be simply dismissed by the voters, a dismissal the voters can do to political parties and its leaders through their votes, of course.

That is why I was even more afraid when I had to learn from Z and what I read here in the German papers about how laws are sometimes passed so quickly and unread, and undebated, in congress.
As long as we "merely" have to deal with political leaders and parties we will ALWAYS have the chance for change (but different to the BHO style- ergo a re-change !). As I said before ( with the limited insight of an alien, but one who does read a lot and consider a lot of the American news here) the most important issue is to wake up more of those people who are BH-mesmerized and to help to reduce the percentage of voters which ignore matter of facts and are too lazy to think, preferring to "let think" by others.
It is wonderful and deserving of thanks that there are people like Z , you, and others who take care of such needs.
Good luck and success, Klaus

Z: I just got this in an email and felt it fit: "It will be worthy of a free, enlightened, and, at no distant period, a great Nation, to give to mankind the magnanimous and too novel example of a People always guided by an exalted justice and benevolence." --George Washington, Farewell Address, 1796

Thanks, Klaus and Priscilla, I've enjoyed this exchange and hope our readers did, too! z

Germans on czars and a very interesting lesson on how the German government would treat a bill as big as HEALTHCARE OVERHAUL

From our friend Klaus Lewin who wrote the terrific piece on having survived the Berlin Blockade of the Russians.
"For me, the U.S. system is difficult to understand. That a government can delegate tasks whose execution has been entrusted by the voters in such a way as to have people (czars) acting outside of congress, particularly people with such flagrantly odd backgrounds as having started communist organizations or have other clouds over their heads (like Van Jones, Browner, Carrion), is outrageous. That means that the system there (independent of the government) overlooks, out of hand, the checks and balances it should have.

PHOENIX TV has reported today (heard on a German cable station) that the approval rating for Obama has gone down to 57%. Hopefully, that will continue to fall. He must cash more and more uncovered checks, and slowly even the biggest idiots will notice something."

This information from Mr. Z and Klaus Lewin might interest you: How Germany would handle such a huge overhaul of any part of their country's laws......

A lesson in democracy relative to passing laws in the Parliament (Congress) described for the case of Germany: (It might be worth noting that the U.S. had major influence on the German Constitution, aka BGB, which lays down the rules for parliamentary actions).

The “Bundestag” (or lower house) has a President (who normally comes from the largest party) and several Vice-Presidents. They agree about the agenda of the parliament, and about schedules for drafts of laws etc. Every party (or member) has the right to present draft laws. Obviously, the governing coalition has normally enough votes to get a law through the parliament or to refuse others – but that is done in a democratic procedure which intimately involves both houses, the “Bundestag” and the “Bundesrat” (which consists primarily of members of the States – so the States have substantial influence on the laws of the land). Here is the procedure:

After a draft of a law has been generated, it must be transmitted for a first review to the Bundesrat. The Bundesrat has several WEEKS time for the review. That means that States even if they are governed by the party which is in the opposition in the lower house, receive knowledge and influence on the laws BEFORE the draft law is brought to the parliament. The Steering Committee of the parliament (President and the Vice-Presidents) then agree on a schedule for the “Lesungen” (discussions) in the parliament. There are always several dates in order to allow changes to be made. Each member of the parliament receives a copy sufficiently before the readings in the parliament.

After having passed in the parliament, the law goes again to the Bundesrat. There are always both houses involved in the process.

A process as it is practiced in the U.S. (example: Stimulus Bill) would be illegal in Germany and would immediately be referred to the Constitutional Court, and/or there would be blocked in the Bundestag and/or the Bundesrat.

Laws in Germany are concentrated on the subject (no ancillary subjects (PORK)), and are generally very brief. One of the most voluminous ones (revision of the social system in Germany with very far reaching consequences, implemented by the Schröder government in 2003, called HARTZ IV) was 47 pages. That law would in its complexity be comparable to what Obama tries to do with the Health Care System....in more than 1000 pages.

Our friend Klaus’ additional comment to Mr. Z: “The practice as described by you [how laws are run through U.S. congress] has very little to do with a normal parliamentary legislative, i.e. democracy. I cannot comprehend that something like that is possible in America which is here considered as the “beacon of democracy”.

Is he bashing America? Is Mr. Z? Heck no...they love America. They just don't get what's happening, how fast things are trying to be moved, how people aren't even reading the bills, etc. etc.

z (thanks, guys)

Where's the OUTRAGE?

Mr. Z relates this story from Germany and adds his opinion: A guy on a children’s playground refused to give up the swing to the 3-year old daughter of a woman, and made outrageous remarks to her. She sued him and, last week, the court said he had to pay €1800 or so in civil penalties. When everyone started to leave the courtroom, the guy took out a knife and killed the (pregnant) woman, and injured her husband. It happens that the woman was an Egyptian muslim woman, educated in Germany (pharmacist), living in Germany. The man was a Russian-German who in the past already became known to police as a neonazi who was hostile to foreigners.

Independent of the characteristics of the people involved, a thing like this shouldn’t happen, and it is a sad story, but in a free society, this is difficult to avoid. There was a memorial service yesterday which was attended by 1500 people, including some politicians.

Now, this incident has created a firestorm in the Muslim world, resulting in flag burning of the German flag, painted swastikas on German embassies, huge crowds protesting, and the Egyptian and the Iranian governments threatening Germany openly with terrorism, calling all of Germany an islamophobic country for this incident.

Now, to top this all off, the "great guardian of human rights", aka Ahmadinejad, said that Germany constantly violates human rights, and asked the U.N. Security Council to define sanctions against Germany. Because the countries with a Muslim population and those who support them have a majority in the U.N., surprising things might come up.

Z: Then, there's this story I found just today in this news article you can read the rest of HERE:

"A car bomb exploded near a church as worshippers left Sunday Mass, killing at least four civilians and injuring 18 in one of several attacks on Iraq's beleaguered Christian minority.........Three Christians and one Muslim died in the bombing at around 7 p.m. near a church on Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad, said a police officer who was at the scene. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media."

Anybody see any Christians demanding the U.N. Security Council define sanctions against Iraq? How about any countries for THIS? How about THIS STORY?!! And wait till you read THIS (please pray for these two girls, by the way). Anybody waiting to see Christian groups marching in the streets, bandanas hiding their faces, threatening the whole WORLD's existence?

Germans are getting a ration from the muslim community and others.....Where is the INTERNATIONAL OUTRAGE on the information in my links above and MORE?

A Tale of Two Countries

Happy Birthday, Germany! ....and how this affects the United States

The year 2009 is a big year for Germany – 60 years after the signing of the Constitution on May 23, 1949 and 20 years after the fall of the wall in Berlin on November 9, 1989. Much has been written in Germany about the 60 years of the Federal Republic of Germany, including some characteristic pictures (one good piece is here in Der Spiegel in English:), so I will leave the account of historical facts to others and concentrate on a personal assessment.

My mother fled the Russians with my brother and me in the waning days of WW II. I remember bits and pieces of Germany in rubble after the war, walking to a British soup kitchen with a lunch pail, stealing some coal from the Brits with my little handcart, only having enough to eat because my grandfather bred chickens and we had a big vegetable garden. There wasn't that much destruction in the little town in Northern Germany in which we grew up. We did know, however, about the difficulties Berlin was having with the blockade and the unbelievably courageous effort by the Americans in trying to save Berlin through the airlift („Luftbrücke“ or air bridge).

Two more things I remember vividly: The 2 Pfennig blue stamp we put on each letter and postcard to help Berlin (called „Notopfer“ or emergency help) and the care packages which were part of the Marshall Plan (I remember my mother was particularly thrilled with the coffee in the package). It was only much later that I understood the full scale of the destruction of the war, including the personal tragedies due to the loss of relatives and being driven from home towns or regions („Vertriebene“).

While we did not have an abundance to eat, we did not go to bed hungry, unlike the people of Berlin, who would not have survived at all if the Americans hadn't started the airlift with the help of the Brits. Amazing and appreciated to this day were the actions of Gen. Clay in pursuing the airlift against all the odds and the humanitarian efforts associated with it, such as the dropping of sweets for the kids of Berlin, an idea conceived by Col. Gail Halverson. These people will never be forgotten by the Germans, especially the people of Berlin. (A really excellent read on this subject is The Candy Bombers)

Germany was effectively governed by the Allied Forces USA; Great Britain, France and Russia. Very soon after the war, it became clear that Russia did not want to cooperate with its Western Allied partners and looked for confrontation in securing their sphere of influence, and they captured one Eastern European country after the other, with Czechoslovakia, in the Spring of 1948, being the one which woke everybody up. The blockade of Berlin by the Soviets in June 1948 was a logical consequence of their previous actions. It was a scary time.... for the Germans, and particularly the people of Berlin, not knowing whether they would be protected against the communists, and for the Americans, because the fear was that of a third world war.

One of the reasons for the action of the Soviets was that the Western Allies (the Americans, for that matter, represented by Gen. Clay) were in the process of setting up a new currency system in the Western part of the country and started to establish the rules for a German government. This is how, in August 1948, 33 selected people (lawyers, intellectuals and members of democratic parties) met on the island of Herrnchiemsee on the Chiemsee lake in Bavaria and ironed out a Constitution for Germany, the so called „Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch“ (BGB, or common law). They did that in only 13 days of seclusion, despite minimal provision of food and drink, in an effort which some people have compared, because of its significance, to the generation of the Constitution of the United States. In the months to come, it had indeed become, under discussion with the Allies and respecting their demands, a very even handed document. This document was then ratified by the Federal Convention, incorporated by the Allies, in the Spring of 1949, and signed by the head of this Convention, Konrad Adenauer, on May 23, 1949. Later in that same year, Theodor Heuss was elected by the Federal Convention to become the first President of the newly founded Federal Republic of Germany and, in Autumn, the people elected a conservative government and Konrad Adenauer was elected the first Chancellor of this new State by the „Bundestag“ (Parliament). By that time, the blockade of Berlin was broken down and West Germany started a new beginning, as did, under pressure by the Soviets, the East German country of „German Democratic Republic“, implementing a communist government.

This was, therefore, the starting point for two German States, established under very different sets of rules. And exactly here lies a very interesting point in study: What happened to these two States which started from the same German people, but implemented with opposite political systems? We saw the results almost 40 years later.

West Germany had undergone what we called the „Wirtschaftswunder“ (economic wonder), achieved by Ludwig Erhard through his „social economics“ – which is a capitalist system with social attributes (as opposed to a socialistic system). The social attributes came from the aftermath of WW II, where every individual helped everybody else, in the sense of „if we do it together, we will succeed“. It is,at least to me, unbelievable what really was achieved in the 50’s and the 60’s, building Germany up from unbelievable destruction to a powerful economy. A symbol of this will to succeed is represented by the „Trümmerfrauen“ (rubble ladies) who collected the stones out of the rubble, cleaned them by knocking off the old concrete, and prepared them for reconstruction.

Because of the rapid build-up after the war, Germany became increasingly

wealthy and prosperous, life was excellent. The country grew and flourished until, after about 25 years, and because of a creeping social system which finally went too far, it became rather complacent. When I came back to work with a German company in the 90’s after 15 years of working in foreign countries, I couldn’t believe what I saw – the drive and productivity exhibited by the people during those great years after the war was replaced by an entitlement mentality. If government pay for unemployment is of the same order as a normal salary, the system goes bankrupt and morale suffers. In addition, the burden on companies became so large and employee 'protection' so far reaching, that companies avoided hiring additional personnel and started to relocate company headquarters and production. What

had happened? The conservative government had been replaced by a socialist government, and the subsequent conservative government failed to turn these policies around. The subsequent socialist/Green party government made matters worse, and Germany is now in the process, under conservative leadership, of trying to turn some of these „social achievements“ around for the better again.

At the same time after the war, East Germany implemented the communist system under pressure and direction by the Soviets, where everything was owned by the State and planned through a central government organization, and everybody was „equal“, except, of course, the government and party officials who had all the nicest amenities in life. But the rest of the population was suppressed, spied upon (even for trying to listen to Western radio or TV to find out about the West), and had to eat or consume only what the planning department made available, after the officials had been served, of course.

After the wall opened in 1989, the people of the West were stunned to see the results of 40 years of communism. East Germany was an absolute mess on all levels, personal, infrastructure, government, everything. West Germany has since spent trillions of dollars bringing that part of the country up to the same level as the West. Vast improvements have been made, particularly in infrastructure projects and in support of the industrial basis, but it's not over yet. The main reason is the mentality of some people in the East. There are still some 30% of the population in the East who vote for the ex-communist party – they prefer a government taking care of them rather than a competitive working environment.

Here are lessons for the current situation in the United States:

1. The difference of the social and economic situation between East and West Germany provides clear evidence that the free market system is far superior than a state planned economy or, as otherwise expressed – communism/socialism don’t work.

2. A free society like West Germany, where the economy works because the people take personal responsibility, is far more successful than a system which is built on the suppression of people and opinions.

3. As can be recognized from the evolution in West Germany, a sliding transition toward excessive social benefits has a negative effect on companies which consequently must compensate for that by outsourcing to other countries. The consequence is that the country becomes less competitive.

4. The effect of communism takes at least two generations to reverse.

While Germany is working hard to re-unify the country and to bring increased individual responsibility back to the country through a reversal of excessive social benefits, the United States is doing exactly the opposite under Obama. Each and every one of the actions of this government goes in the direction which East Germany took after WW II, and that does not only include economic actions, such as the nationalizing of companies and putting companies at a disadvantage relative to the unions, but affecting society through trying to suppress civil discourse through the help of the mass media as the fifth column.

While Germany would not have survived the pressure from the Soviets without the unbelievable help of the United States after WW II, maybe the time has come that the U.S. should look back to Germany to see how the West prospered under conservative direction and how the East ruined itself under the Socialist/Communist regime. Same people, same genes, same history; but what a difference under two distinctly different ideologies. America, please benefit from Germany's past. We owe it to you.

"Godless Europe...?" By Mr. Z

Religion on the Line

How the Left destroys the very foundation of our countries

When I grew up in Germany, one of the compulsory subjects throughout my life as a pupil was religion, up to the baccalaureate at 2 hours per week, split into Catholics and Lutherans. We learned not only about specific religious values, but also about the history of our and other religions and the impact religion had on countries, including moral values and ethical behavior.

That has basically not changed in German schools. Until three years ago, that is, when the Senate of the German State of Berlin with its red-red government (Socialists and Die Linke – the remnants of the Eastern German Communist Party) decided that religion as a compulsory subject didn’t fit Berlin's multi-culti society any more and replaced it by a compulsory Ethics class, leaving the possibility for pupils to take a voluntary class in religion (which meant that practically nobody would take it because of an already demanding and tight schedule of work).

The German conservative and centrist parties, CDU and FDP, got enough signatures to stage a public referendum. They were supported by many prominent politicians (such as Angela Merkel) and other prominent public figures who wanted to keep religion in the schools. Financing the other side were the socialists, communists, unions and the like, spearheaded by the socialist homosexual Mayor of Berlin, Wowereit who, as the head of the red-red government, made it very difficult for the „Pro Reli“ coalition to succeed. The Senate used taxpayer money to counter this attempt to reintroduce religion as a subject (a court ultimately disallowed that), and set the date in a way which made it unlikely that the referendum would succeed (instead of setting it at the same date as the upcoming elections for the European Parliament which would get many more voters out, of course). So, the referendum failed on two accounts: (1) Pro Religion reached only 48.5% of the votes, and (2) because of low participation, they fell substantially short of the second requirement – 25% of all eligible voters.

But it is worth looking at another angle of the results: In the Western districts of Berlin, the participation was 41% and the approval rate for Pro Reli was 60%. In the Eastern parts of Berlin, the participation was only a little more than 20%, and the disapproval rate of Pro Reli was 77%.

Here is what that means: While the Western part upheld conventional values, the Eastern part refused those overwhelmingly. The difference is the fact that these people have been indoctrinated by 40+ years of the Communists. These are the same people who, according to recent polls, still believe that the GDR (East Germany) was not so bad after all, and still vote for the Communists. As a consequence, it can be said that the Christian heritage of Germany and the corresponding moral values had been more or less completely wiped out there by the Communist regime of East Germany.

This referendum showed exactly what to expect in the future: The socialists and communists are giving up any notion of a privileged situation of a country because of the benefits of its Christian heritage (or Judeo-Christian heritage as it's rightfully called here in the U.S.). Everything is watered down, leaving a lowest denominator situation so that nobody „is hurt“. It also shows how long it takes to negate the effect of communist indoctrination.

Have your faith in this country renewed.....take a look

By WV DOTTR:

I had no idea what to expect today walking into the naturalization ceremony for people who had made the final step in becoming citizens of the United States.
My thoughts were, ok, we are in the DAR , and this is part of our mission, helping people understand patriotism and citizenship of this great country.
Our chapter had prepared 37 little grab bags for these new citizens. Inside were little flags, copies of the preamble to the constitution, bill of rights, and other patriotic literature.
There were 37 applicants seated in the courtroom. This was where the ceremony took place, a courtroom.
We, myself and other members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, were seated in the jury's box.
Also seated were members from the Rotary Club.
Presenting the colors, was the local honor guard from the ROTC program from a local high school.
The ROTC had also prepared certificates for these new citizens.
Our judge presiding, finally arrived, and she brought in another judge to assist.
The ROTC came in, bearing our flag and the state flag, we all saluted the flag as it passed, until it was posted, as is proper protocol.

A lady seated in the front row of the applicants for naturalization began to softly cry tears of joy. Eventually, she was handed a tissue. The families of the applicants were in attendance.
The judge recognized our DAR chapter and we all had to stand as they called out our names.'
People looked at us in awe, realizing , I suppose, that there was living history from early America right in their midst.

As each applicant's name was called , their nation of origin was mentioned, and we all clapped as each new American had his or her name read out.
These new citizens beamed. The judge also mentioned who was the oldest applicant and the youngest.
A singer, who was also the county clerk sang the National Anthem, and later she sang, God Bless the USA.
A prayer was said by a local minister and all paid respect for the moment.
There was a local , prominent surgeon, who was of Indian descent , who gave a speech about what this country made of people, how ordinary people could become extraordinary in America.

Eventually the ceremony ended, it was not that long.
The judges invited anyone who wanted to come forward and walk about in the courtroom. She said this was one time she was allowing cameras in the courtroom.
Our chapter regent, wanted to get a snapshot of us standing under the great seal...but the next thing we knew, we had new American Citizens wanting to have their pictures taken with us.
I was so honored and humbled and proud.
The husband of one new citizen, his wife had come from El Salvador, asked us about our grandfathers , did they really fight for freedom with George Washington and the patriots.
Well, we could all honestly say yes, yes he did.
It awed him, this man. He and his wife had traveled from their location in the state to get to this town from a distance of about 200 miles. Yes, it means something.
The roll call of countries represented really surprised me:
Germany, England, Canada, Belgium, Indonesia, Lithuania, Hungary, Kosovo, Ethiopia, Jamaica, Kenya, Viet Nam, China, Korea, Iran, India, Pakistan, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Peru, and Mexico.

I thought to myself of an unusual Mr or Miss Universe pageant.
A really neat thing we did was we and these new Americans got to say the pledge of allegiance to the flag, together.
We, descendents, repeated the pledge with new, future patriots.

Later , some of my fellow DAR ladies who'd just got hugs from some of these new citizens, they were just so overcome with emotion.

Want to get your faith renewed about this country? Go to one of these ceremonies.
You won't be sorry.

THANK YOU to our terrific commenter here, WVDOTTR, for giving us a very personal look at a citizenship ceremony in West Virginia on Friday. God bless America and those new citizens!

England follows Germany on scrapping old cars...$$$

Looks like the information written about by Mr. Z in his recent article for this blog was noticed and is being implemented in Great Britain.

Update information: "In March, German auto sales soared 40 percent from the same month a year earlier to 401,000 vehicles. In February, the first full month the plan was effective, German new car sales jumped 21.5 percent, while falling elsewhere in the 16-nation eurozone."

Here's the article about England's new plans........just seems wise to me to, IF you feel you MUST "stimulate", then stimulate by pinpointing major problem areas. It was a good target for Germany because the auto industry is a major industry in Germany. Put money where everyone benefits; buyers, factories, workers at those factories, suppliers to those factories, stock holders, neighborhoods where those factories are, etc., etc., etc., ...... instead of spending $2 million on analyzing the stink in pig sties in Iowa? Just a thought.
