RIP, Mr. Robert Novak

You fought for the truth. You fought to inform. You will be missed. I'll remember that funny way you said "CROSSFIRE!"Any unkind comments will be deleted. I promise.

Don't hire American kids....they're too expensive....says our colleges

She'd better not be from America!
It looks like some US colleges and universities have notices posted on their websites informing US companies that they're tax chumps if they hire students who are US citizens. Here's the exact quote in the information on their sites: 'In fact, a company may save money by hiring international students because the majority of them are exempt from Social Security (FICA) and Medicare tax requirements,' advises the taxpayer-supported University of Pittsburgh (pdf) as it makes the case against hiring its own US students. You'll find the same exact pitches made by the University of Delaware, the University of Cincinnati, Kansas State University, the University of Southern California, the University of Wisconsin, Iowa State University, and other public colleges and universities. It's amazing that the following private schools also carry this information....like John Hopkins University, Brown University, Rollins College and Loyola University Chicago." Little ROLLINS COLLEGE, too?
Just wondering what you think of this...................?
Thanks to Jeff for the tip.......z

Canada, Holland, France, and Health Care

Overhauling health-care system tops agenda at annual meeting of Canada's doctors

SASKATOON — The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association says this country's health-care system is sick and doctors need to develop a plan to cure it.

Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country - who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting - recognize that changes must be made. .......

His thoughts on the issue are already clear. Ouellet has been saying since his return that "a health-care revolution has passed us by," that it's possible to make wait lists disappear while maintaining universal coverage and "that competition should be welcomed, not feared."In other words, Ouellet believes there could be a role for private health-care delivery within the public system.

Canada's health care system is sick but it looks like they're exploring PRIVATE health care just when WE are.....when we are......doing the opposite.....ruh roh!...........Click HERE for the rest of the article.

Then there is THIS ARTICLE about French and Dutch healthcare, which I found pretty fair and even enlightening and thought provoking, but there are hidden sentences in it which should open any American's eyes wide...I provided a few here:

Dutch and French patients do wait longer than Americans for specialty care; around a quarter of respondents to the Commonwealth Fund survey reported waiting more than two months to see a specialist, compared to virtually no wait for Americans. But Dutch and French patients were far less likely to avoid seeing a specialist altogether -- or forgoing other sorts of medical care -- because they couldn't afford it. And there's precious little evidence that the waits for specialty care led to less effective care. (Z: "couldn't afford it'? I thought it's FREE? And, regarding not going to a specialist and evidence that it wasn't needed, tell that to a very sick person who needs that specialist)

And in both countries, people pay for health insurance through a combination of private payments and what are, by American standards, substantial taxes. (Z: substantial is a nice way of saying lifestyle threatening, trust me)

Z: I just found out that Holland starts paying for mammograms at the age of 50...America, 40. The American sample recommends every year mammograms and pays for that. Holland's pays for every FIVE years. That's bad medicine any way you slice it. (sorry to mention slice in terms of mammograms, ladies; I know, it just FEELS that way:-)

France's healthcare wasn't bad, I have to say.....I was part of it and benefited from it. But, the taxes are very high and nothing is 'free'. I hope I don't have to again mention that the lie you've always heard about "Germans get medical care FREE" has never been true. I just remembered my experience at a 'hand and arm clinic' in Paris while living there. I really badly sliced my index finger while washing a wine glass after a dinner party (I play piano so it was a little more scary than it might be and it turns out the cut was very near a nerve but didn't damage it, hallelujiah!).....While waiting for the surgery, I was wheeled in on a guerney two inches from both people on the sides of me ... all of us waiting for surgery. And, because you're so close, they have you feet to head...I was head, the two people on my sides, feet...get the drift? side by side.... I couldn't BELIEVE it. Crammed in like sardines. (I asked to use the bathroom and they gave me a bed pan........think about it...French health care might be good but it's not luxurious...EXCEPT at the American Hospital there, where I also had cooking-related hand-cut injury! THAT was a marvelous place, I have to admit)
In summary, regarding the above links, I think the second article is interesting and some parts should be seriously considered.......the question will always be HOW MUCH GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT SHOULD THERE BE? Seems to me that's the part that never works in any of these countries.

From Russia, With Love?

I hope you'll read this (if you did see it the first time around...I had, and a friend had, and we agreed that it seems even MORE true and prescient today than it did only two months ago....take a look):

It takes Pravda to tell America the truth about America. The only thing devastating about it is I don't see our way out of it. Here's the first part:

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish.

Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.

The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

Please KEEP READING....HERE. The end is more gruesome than the above.....believe me. What are your thoughts? Can we CHANGE THINGS AROUND FOR THE BETTER AGAIN?

Rachel Maddow on Meet the Press

Do you think this is normal? Imagine Tim Russert having Keith Olbermann on Meet the Press? I couldn't believe it....a woman who makes her living disdainfully and nastily only promoting one point of view, as liberal as she can get it (This morning she said the phrase "Democrats AND Liberals.." hmmmm), and they had her on a "PANEL" on Meet the Press, practically as profoundly American an institution as the New York Times once was. I mean, her show is entertainment for liberals, it's not a show which fairly shows ANYthing to ANYbody. She doesn't seem to even try, though I'll admit she even takes offense at Obama from time to time (not liberal enough). They had her on a panel with Dashiell and Army, they didn't have her on as a separate interview of a far-left enigma, an oddity, for a peek into its thinking....that would have been fine.

I thought that she was on this esteemed Sunday morning show was prophetic........and pathetic. Don't you agree that shows which masquerade as interest to us all might have politicians from both sides and at least have professional, civil and dignified panel members? RACHEL MADDOW on a MEET THE PRESS panel discussion? For some reason, that really got to me. How indicative of something I still don't want to recognize of this country.

But, of course, when people elect Al Franken to the office of Senator....well.....there goes the neighborhood. By the way, even Hannity and O'Reilly have differing sides on their show far more than she does....You think Meet the Press will invite Hannity on some time soon?

Sunday Faith Blog............

Please click HERE and read an amazing article, it's not long and it is well worth reading. The article starts with "It may be the biggest archaeological discovery to date, but it is also the most dangerous." I'd second that.

Then, go to this....click HERE and see "...the REST of the story..." Rick Larson's Bethlehem Star presentation is something you will be moved to look further into. But, of course..............

Have a very nice Sunday.....Mr and Mrs Z (and check down below for some good politics stuff; don't miss the comments!)

Keep on Spewing............

The Obamas visit Old Faithful. I wish HE was as faithful as that old geyser is.

UPDATE: As long as we're talking vacations here, I thought I'd tell you what I just saw on Yahoo (again): It just published THIS INFO: They're telling people THE ALAMO's a waste of time to visit. THE ALAMO? Knowing YAHOO's leftwing leanings, could it be for this reason that they're dissing THE ALAMO?
"While the facts surrounding the siege of the Alamo continue to be debated, there is no doubt about what the battle has come to symbolize. People worldwide continue to remember the Alamo as a heroic struggle against impossible odds — a place where men made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. For this reason, the Alamo remains hallowed ground and the Shrine of Texas Liberty." Better not go visit, huh? Never know WHAT could rub off on you.

Hannity tonight CRACKED me up! OBAMA DID NOT

"Oh, ya," he said.."...a town hall in MONTANA and someone mentions the NRA and they get 3 people clapping.." THAT's MONTANA? No, that's a rigged crowd for Obama. I loved that! Click HERE....Yahooo/TIME says how PEACEFUL it was! How could it be otherwise.......?

UPDATE: Later this evening, I saw the Town Hall in Montana for myself. The American who identified himself as a proud NRA member went on to say to Obama "...and I listen to THEM Cable Channels because I don't like the spin on the others.." (THEM, get it?). Did anybody who heard him notice what Obama responded with? "Oh, you've got to be careful with THEM Cable Channels..." Ya, THEM. Mr. Harvard. Think he really has that bad grammar or this was another HUGE disgusting SLAM at the guy for his? That elitism STINKS in anyone.........but, especially, an AMERICAN PRESIDENT. Oh, man, that bugged me.

Question, challenge, write and call.....Pelosi LIKES it after all.......

Get out there and speak out at the Town Hall Meetings, if you can. Concentrate on the important issues and do not be silenced! Call and write. Turns out Speaker Pelosi IS a fan of your actions....the advocates it in the above video...Go FIGURE~! Meanwhile....

Maybe the Left doesn't understand nuance
....or doesn't want to read into the bill anything that isn't right there in specific words, and maybe DEATH PANEL was the silliest expression Sarah Palin could have used (giving the media and the White House great ammunition to argue with and scoff), but the inference that mainstream America doesn't understand that end of life issues WERE threatening as the bill was written (they're supposedly gone now, but I haven't had time or energy to look at the wording in its place) is just plain WRONG.
Sarah's DEATH PANEL remark has been an excellent foil for the leftwing, too. It's a terrific way to get around something that has NOT been taken out of the bill, nor will it be if the leftwingers have anything to say about it (and they do, sadly), and that is "You can keep your private insurance." In the way that that is a downright lie if you are mature enough to understand that there's no way private insurance can exist after this hideous health care plan goes into existence; it's also a downright lie to suggest end of life issues will NOT come up, in this bill or not, should Obama get his Plan. Mark my words. But, don't just rely on ME!! See THIS ARTICLE from Miss T.C. at "....in a Handbasket", she writes well and makes good points. Blogger and friend, Brooke, a nurse, said it this way in a comment in my piece about healthScare below:

Blogger Brooke said...

Do I think there could be death panels? Not as such.
I do think health care will be rationed to those most productive, with less expensive conditions, etc.
If someone else with a more serious condition happens to die while waiting for those 'prioritized' for care, well, that'll just be unfortunate, won't it.
I think that is what most people fear from Obama's plan, and his so-called 'counseling' sessions.

Exactly. My friends just plain make sense. Don't be duped. Speak out, contact your 'representatives', turn the tables on people like Pelosi and stop this whole bill; Get them to STOP, WAIT, THINK, have everyone involved, and LISTEN TO THE PUBLIC, to fix what's broken............Pelosi now thinks you ARE Patriotic! WHO KNEW? Well...okaaay, she thinks HER PEOPLE are patriotic when THEY get loud. Not you.
