I ran across this story and wondered; is it a good idea for the NY Times to AGAIN expose details of seemingly highly classified information which helped us? Isn't it GOOD to 'thwart foreign nuclear programs'? Sounds good to ME!
Do you sometimes feel you're living in an alternate universe...like "this WAS America..where is it now? And, how can we last with this kind of information exposed by....US?" Or am I missing something? HELP.

Why not? You let President Chucklenuts out a CIA agent because someone told the truth about the administration's idiotic claims about the Niger yellowcake so why not just out everyone?
Seems to me that the media has placed the Tinner family in serious harm's way by coming out and calling them by name.
Duck, the Plame story wasn't outed by President Bush; besides, that story probably runs a lot deeper than any of us can even begin to imagine. it comforts me to know that our nation's legal system must be right since no one has ever gotten convicted on this one yet. If anyone should be convicted, it would be Plame herself, and her husband.
Steve, the Niger yellowcake scare was bulls**t whipped up to scare the peasants.
Iraq already had yellowcake, the ore was worthless to them since they had no enrichment capability and the stuff is near impossible to get out of Niger. But stay out of the way when those right wingers get frightened. They sell out anyone.
This seems similar to the right wing agony over the revelation that Chuckles was grabbing records of everyone's phone conversations. They go into violent spasms about releasing this critical information to al-Qaeda.
It was news to al-Qaeda that we were monitoring phone conversations? Of course the stuff Bush grabbed was useless for that purpose but we have a variety of instances of right wingers going gaga for no reason.
If you have so much faith in the legal system then why not charge and try the Guantanamo detainees?
z i'm with you on this.
and i refuse to get into a pissing contest as to the valeri plame debacle and wiretapping and gitmo detainees. sheesh - do some actual research once in a while, would you ducky? daily kos is not a reliable source of facts.
American press seems to believe that they have an absolute right to print whatever they want, no matter what the likely consequences to national security or America's prestige. That said, the CIA should understand that clandestine operations must never be revealed, and they ought to do a better job “concealing” black operations – particularly when they involve foreign personnel.
In Britain, The Official Secrets Act diminishes press access to classified information, and of actually printing it. The American press becomes giddy whenever it has the opportunity to embarrass the administration, or jeopardize the safety of our agents. It is despicable, but we do know the press for what it is. Even Vietnamese General Võ Nguyên Giáp told us in his book that North Vietnam strategy relied heavily on the American press – there can be no greater indictment than that.
and the stuff is near impossible to get out of Niger....
Now there's a load of BS. Remember that tanker full of yellow cake that came from Iraq and went to Canada a fewe months ago? The VAST MAJORITY of THAT yellow cake HAD BEEN ILLEGALLY OBTAINED by Iraq.
It is OBVIOUSLY VERY EASY to get ILLEGAL yellowcake OUT of Niger.
DUCKKKY!! you ARE kidding, right? So, we diffuse this hideous information in the article with YELLOW CAKE so's not to get too upset or condemn the NYSlimes? is that why you do that? Stick to the topic.
Do YOU think it's a fantastic idea to be telling the world what OUR CIA is up to?
RE: Guantanamo, did it ever occur to you that we don't want trials because WE ARE THE ONES who'd not get a fair trial? WE, the ones THEY want to hurt, WE, the ones trying to protect ourselves (and why the HECK is that SUCH a problem for you and the NYTimes so often?), WE the ones who OUR LEFT will fight tooth and nail to prevent our safety by exposing valuable information in OUR PAPERS?
this stunned me.
And yes, Steve..the threat to the Tinner family had escaped me. You're so right, there's THAT, too.
Heidianne....bliss.
Mustang....I read those quotes by Gen Giap and was horrified, too. Isn't THAT something?
WHY DOES THOSE 'IN CHARGE' OF THE LEFT NOT CARE ABOUT THIS COUNTRY? THEY HAVE CHLDREN!
Futile to argue with liberals.
They truly do live in a PARALLEL UNIVERSE of their own invention.
And they would say the same of US.
None of the data Conservatives have at their command are given any credence in the Parallel Universe that Liberals inhabit (AKA La-La Land! ;-)
And VICE VERSA.
THIS is the Central Problem in American politics today.

The NYT is no longer the Newspaper of Record for several reasons and their lack of loyalty to their country is part of it.
The Treason Times' time is limited.
For a little good news go here:
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080826/new_york_times_revenue.html?.v=1
Ad revenue drops 16.2 percent at New York Times Co., sending July revenue down 10.1 percent
As far as the Plame nonsense. She should have been convicted for spending CIA money to send her husband to Niger for the sole purpose of writing an article op-ed piece on George Bush. I refuse to believe this doesn't violate federal law.
All hail Freedom of the press!
I feel so much safer knowing the ins and outs of my government's secret ops. (sarcasm)
I'd like to see the reporters and editors of the NYT go undercover and face terrorists with a weapon pointed at them, or stand on the front line defending freedom of speech, freedom of press, etc.
Naaah, it aint never gonna happen.
If you have so much faith in the legal system then why not charge and try the Guantanamo detainees?
Because they don't deserve to be tried. They are not American citizens and should all be killed.
Z: Isn't it something how us right wingers always seem to come up with the blooming obvious?
Duck, Saddam Hussein did, in fact, have enrichment capability. He just didn't invest too much work into obtaining their own home ore to refine it before enrichment - which is a very slow and expensive process.
It seems to be useless to convince clueless idiots, that their sorry a---s are being protected not only by our military, but by the intelligence community who are working 24/7 to do just that. And Ducky, you know who I mean.
My husband retired from that community three years ago after over 40 years of proud and distinguished service.
The people who leak classified information are treasonous and should suffer the proper punishment. We are at war, and during a war treason is punishable by death.
It is entirely likely that with every leak and public exposure, people working in dangerous places and with dangerous people, to gain information, are at risk of their very lives.
They do this in service of our country and the American people. The family in this article are targets now, thanks to this irresponsible publicity.
But the fool among us here, doesn't care about the plots that have been interdicted, or how many lives have been saved.
He knows nothing of the risks these fellow Americans take.
He knows nothing, as the rest of us don't, about what intelligence has been gathered from the electronic tracking of foreign calls.
In fact he's so secure he bears the moniker of a quacking farm bird and appears incognito, if indeed that photo is really him.
Of course the main concern of our leftist dupes is the killers in Gitmo.
Not American citzens, not our military personnel, and not our men and women who work in intelligence, who BTW are still recovering from the Clinton cutbacks which was devastating to their efforts.
God help the clueless, because it's clear they are lost, and God help the rest of us who they are determined to take down with them.

If you have so much faith in the legal system then why not charge and try the Guantanamo detainees?
Because trying them in a civilian court would violate the Geneva Conventions.
Duh.
