I'm watching the swimming. I used to do triathlons in 84, 85, and 86 so I want to see people go FAST in the pool. Carmen's also on her school's swim team, so she's thinking about getting a t-shirt with "Marry Me Michael Phelps" written on the front. I love watching our guys win these races.

Looks like our beach volleyball team is in trouble tonight with Belgium!

Michael Phelps is an absolute phenom and if he weren't so arrogant he might even be great. Our beach volleyball ladies are just incredible! 105 straight wins!!! I've really got to get to bed early one of these nights. Girls individual gymnastics are tonight and so I guess I won't be getting to bed early again today. One small criticism of our American Olympians -- SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WHEN YOU WIN A GOLD!!!

How about our James Blake beating Federer? Just great.

I confess I haven't been watching the Olympics. I've been watching the Dodgers beat the Phillies four straight. Hooray!!

I HEARD FEDERER GOT BEATEN (HURRAH!), but by JAMES BLAKE?
That is FABULOUS!!

Oops...I'm a conservative and he's a Black man; If I wanted Federer would I have been racist? Is that hate speech on my part for favoring MY GUY? By favoring Blake do I look like I'm pandering to the Black community? If I..

oh, never mind. YOu get the picture.!

Z said...

Oh, I FORGOT to mention James Blake's BI RACIAL!

I'm REALLY in trouble NOW. I forgot to honor EVERYTHING he is...Wait...if the article I just Yahoo'd to make sure that I remembered correctly that he's biracial said BI RACIAL, why doesn't Obama call himself BIRACIAL?

Odd.

not.

I wish I could see the Olympics but I don't have NBC. I get two local channels and that's not one of them. All I get to see are the news reports after the event, and some online video interviews with various athletes. Some footage of the games is part of it of course. Better than nothing I guess. I'd love to have seen the gymnastics competition that Nastia Liukin ended up winning.

So I'm protesting the Olympics in spite of myself.

Z said...

So, CJ..you're 'boycotting' in spite of yourself! Sorry about that! I wonder if you could watch some of the Olympics on line somehow?

MAYBE SOMEBODY HERE CAN HELP?

I'm not boycotting the Olympics. I watch the stuff I'm interested in & pass on the rest.

I'm rooting for the good ole USA and against all the commie countries.

Mr. Z just read me an article in the German papers...The Chinese had 56 children of different ethnicities in the opening ceremonies marching, showing how the Chinese are so good to them, live well with the Chinese, etc.etc. Turns out today that THEY WERE ALL FAKES. ALL "HAN CHINESE"!! ALL.
The Chinese are now saying "Gee, we do this kind of thing all the time."
Apparently, they were far enough away from the audience that they could just put them in ethnic clothing and people believed it!

GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!!

Z said...

If you've noticed fairly empty venues, so little audience, despite the organizers said they'd sold all the tickets, it's because they feared protesters.
People close to the gov't are hinting at that.
Publicized reasons are "it's too hot", etc.

The area around Olympic Park is empty, too...not like Athens, Sydney, where groups run around with flags, having fun, talking.....it's all absent in China. They're that worried of terror and protesters.

As of today, there are suddenly more people, and these are people driven in from Beijing outskirts to fill the spaces..volunteers from China. Sponsors are less than happy about this, too.

From the German media...

Morgan,
Not only is Blake an American, but a real class act.

NASTIA?

What a terrible-sounding name! Poor girl!

Are you sure it's not a bizarre nickname for Anastasia, CJ?

Dear Mr. Frank, anyone who has achieved pre-eminence of the sort Mr. Phelps has can certainly be forgiven any symptoms of arrogance.

When you're the absolute best, you're the absolute best, and there's no point in pretending otherwise. Arrogance is preferable to false modesty in such cases.

However, not being a sports enthusiast I haven't seen any of this on television, and have only read summary reports of Mr. Phelps' enormous triumph, so I can't properly judge his temperament for myself. I can only thank God that SOMEBODY who is truly AMERICAN has represented our confused, duped, enfeebled, and hopefully not-yet-doomed nation with such distinction.

It gives one hope that things might turn out well after all.

Awarding the Olympics to the ChiComs should've been withheld until they changed their thuggish ways. It was a premature carrot event.

Now that we're stuck with it (thanks EOC), we may still pull out some good from it... lots of nasty, dishonest stuff is coming out about the ChiComs. Let's hope the world is listening.

Pris, I've adored Blake for a few years now; he apparently made some trouble in his losing match today, though..what was that? Did you hear the details!??

FT: Phelps is a success story but the European news is full of EVERYONE doing drugs and, while he's not the exception, sadly, it's almost certain he's drugging. One article in a German paper had an interview with a guy who's supplied all the athletes with performance -enhancing drugs and says the testing is 2 years behind the drugs. They're undetectable so far. I hope Phelps is above that. I wish they ALL were.

Cube; you might be interested in Mr. Z's article a week or so ago about why China shouldn't be hosting the Olympics.

Now some little town in Russia's apparently paid enough to the IOC to have won the 2012 bid..they have ABSOLUTELY no gaming infrastructure AT ALL, NOTHING going for the town, but they won$$$ thanks to the IOC$$$$

I'm loving it, Z!
I was a gymnast back in the day.
Nowhere near Olympic level, but I love watching these athletes.
Didja see that Chinese guy fall off the rings? OUCH!!!

Thank you for that link, Papa Frank. I was able to watch Nastia do her winning feats. (That site does get cranky on me, though, asking me for information about my TV service provider, which I don't have, and won't let me watch after that. But if I keep coming back to the link I can watch again.)

Yes, FT, her name is Nastia, nickname I don't know, but she's Russian you know. Pronounced Nascha I think.

CJ said...

Actually, it's more like NAWSTEEA. Not what it looks like, FT. Go watch some of the action at that link Papa Frank posted. You should appreciate the artistry of the gymnasts.

CJ -- also try youtube as they get videos of things like this almost instantly.

FreeThinke -- I give Phelps credit for his achievements and recognize him as the best game in town. My feeling that he is an arrogant SOB comes from him doing things like using the gold medal podium to do stretches while others are getting their medals and him not singing the national anthem (although he is certainly not alone in not singing). There are others who are great and yet seem far more humble and thankful and respectful to me. I don't think Phelps is a bad guy at all I just prefer greatness WITH humility. Probably just me.

Yikes, Michael Phelps won his seventh gold in the butterfly, but it was SOoooooo close! THAT ought to humble him. The Serbian swimmer Cavic was ahead of him the whole way, and it appears to have been a slightly slower reach for the wall that lost it for him. I can understand the protest in favor of Cavic -- I mean he was SO much faster the whole way -- but Phelps won by 1/100th of a second with his final lunge for the wall.

I think it worked out perfectly. The golden boy got the seven medals everyone wanted him to get, and he CAN'T be so sure of himself after that close a win.
