I went to visit my sister in college years ago and she had the quote I've printed below hanging on her wall. I wanted to share it with you...for a college child going away, for a friend wanting to leave a no-future job, for making a decision about whether to go back to school again....YOU'll know whom this might affect. Maybe it's you? I hope it helps.
And the day came when the risk to remain in a bud became more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

My son is one week into his 'blossoming' as a college freshman. My baby has left the nest.
I am reminded of this powerful poem, first read long ago, not thought of for decades till now.
FreeThinke
The force that through the green fuse drives the flower
Drives my green age; that blasts the roots of trees
Is my destroyer.
And I am dumb to tell the crooked rose
My youth is bent by the same wintry fever.
The force that drives the water through the rocks
Drives my red blood; that dries the mouthing streams
Turns mine to wax.
And I am dumb to mouth unto my veins
How at the mountain spring the same mouth sucks.
The hand that whirls the water in the pool
Stirs the quicksand; that ropes the blowing wind
Hauls my shroud sail.
And I am dumb to tell the hanging man
How my clay is made the hangman's lime.
The lips of time leech to the fountain head;
Love drips and gathers, but the fallen blood
Shall calm her sores.
And I am dumb to tell a weather's wind
How time has ticked a heaven round the stars.
And I am dumb to tell the lover's tomb
How at my sheet goes the same crooked worm.

Thanks, FT. I wonder if Rand got her Fountainhead (one word) from there!?
Karen, I wish your son the best of luck. And Mom, too! It's not easy, is it.
The "force" that animates, causes flowers to bloom, fruit to form, ripen, be consumed and decay–––the "force" that gives life and transforms it back to dust is––– of course, GOD, Himself.
Dylan Thomas in his life––– besides being a great poet with a unique voice and the reputation for being a drunken reprobate–––was a great mystic. He caught glimpses of God's Face as few are privileged to do in this life.

Yes, Z.
The risk is worth it.
This is so true, as a parent I can tell you that it is a huge step for both the parent and the child.
The best we can do is pray that as a parent you did everything possible to raise a responsible human being and stand in faith knowing that God will send thousands of angels to watch over the baby that has left the nest.
me!
WHAT a beautiful application of that phrase..thanks so much.
You are THE BEST MOM....i admire you so much!!
