Wow, I thought....every cable news channel's waiting for OBAMA ON HAITI

....I thought there must be something stunningly unusual about to be announced with all the waiting and fanfare......and HERE it finally was: WE ARE GOING TO HELP HAITI (I mean, the cameras were panning the dais for at least 30 minutes knowing full well Obama was in a health care meeting with Reid and would come out when he'd announced he'd come out!)...WAS THERE NO OTHER NEWS WORTHY OF SHOWING WHILE WE BIDE TIME FOR OBAMA'S APPEARANCE? I thought there must be something REALLY big and new coming for the media to forgo all other news for so long just to have all cameras directed at a ........ teleprompter. Did they expect THAT to speak (again)? I mean, go to OBAMA when he ARRIVES, right? I'd get that...he's president, he has an announcement to make, right?

Anyway, here's a bit from the linked article: "Obama sought to show a swift and united disaster response with the United States as an assertive leader, but he said the effort must be an international one." Bush did more for Africa than any president before him (ask liberals Bono and Geldof, who know) and gee...did anybody in the media consider the States as an 'assertive leader' with Bush at the helm leading the crisis of AIDS and POVERTY? And, by the way, I completely agree with Obama on the "international" remark.

Pardon me for using a disaster to make a point about the media again (I'm usually not one to 'never let a serious crisis go to waste' as Rahm Emanuel famously advises), but I just beg for fairness in the media. AND........so much MORE importantly... Please pray for the Haitians....what a terrible disaster to a place which is so difficult in its best times.

The death of a great hero

Miep from THE DIARY OF ANN FRANK died on January 11 at the age of 100. What an amazingly courageous woman, putting the Frank family and those with them hiding in Amsterdam before her own safety.
May God bless her mightily.

A post I've dreaded doing... a small tribute to MIKE

Pris and I just found out that our dear buddy Mike, someone we commented with a lot at FrontPageMagazine for years (along with Jingoist and Fair Witness and FT and a few others here) has passed on.
We knew he'd been sick for almost exactly a year before he passed.
He and Mr. Z and I Skyped for about an hour one night about seven months ago. We didn't know my dear guy was sick at the time and who'd have thought my husband would pass before Mike who was already so sick? We adored Mike, as did Pris, and his loss is stunning. I never told Mike I lost Mr. Z because he didn't need more bad news.
His wife suddenly contacted us tonight and told us he passed away on November 2. Only today, I had emailed Pris saying he must be gone because I knew hospice had come to help months ago, and I knew he'd have told his family to let us know. Well, his wife mentioned that he had specifically asked that Z and Pris be contacted because he was so fond of us. What an honor. Mrs. Mike apologized for not letting us know sooner because she couldn't bring herself to go into his office. How well I know that feeling. And, obviously, she's as fine a person as he is.

Mike was one of the smartest, most dedicated Conservatives I ever knew. He was brighter than most people no matter what their politics, loved this country fiercely and, almost as fiercely, championed the Free Market. And, brother, could he back up his claims with facts and figures. And, oh, could he set a liberal straight!

Please keep his family in your prayers. You'd have adored Mike. And I think we'd all like Mrs. Mike, too, judging from her gracious email tonight. We'll miss you, Mike. You were one of the very very BEST. Love, Z

Palin on FOX permanently? WHAT?

Then there are Harry Ried's latest words on his race scandal:

"I'll continue to do my work for the African-American community ... I'm not going to dwell on this any more," he added. You've got to love this guy if nothing else for the comic relief. Gee, would that all people embroiled in scandals just themselves decided "I'm DONE with it" and everybody followed suit! :-)

I added somewhere else today (in a comment below?) that some bigwig in the NAACP said on FOX this morning that "when Obama speaks to white audiences, HE SPEAKS 'WELL'...but he can talk to black audiences, too" Speak WELL when talking to WHITES? Isn't that almost as bad as what Harry Reid said?!!
