Obama, Edwards Meet in N.C.; No Nod Yet

Feb 18 12:05 AM US/EasternBy NEDRA PICKLERAssociated Press Writer

CHICAGO (AP) - Barack Obama sneaked down to North Carolina Sunday and met with former rival John Edwards, who has yet to make an endorsement in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Officials at North Carolina television station WTVD said they have video taken from a helicopter of Obama leaving Edwards' home in Chapel Hill. A producer said the station was "tipped off" about the meeting, but said the source was confidential.
The Obama campaign confirmed the meeting. Although reporters normally travel everywhere with Obama, he left them behind to fly down in secret from his hometown.
"Senator Obama visited this morning with John and Elizabeth Edwards at their home in Chapel Hill to discuss the state of the campaign and the pressing issues facing American families," said Obama spokesman Bill Burton. He wouldn't comment on the possibility of an endorsement.
In an interview Sunday night with WITI-TV in Milwaukee, Obama said, "The meeting with John, we just wanted to talk about how we can move the party in a direction that focuses on middle-class issues—relieving poverty, reducing the influence of special interests in Washington."
People close to the Edwardses, speaking privately, say they have been torn about whom to support. The former North Carolina senator is concerned that Obama may not be ready for the presidency and that his health care plan is inferior. But Edwards was highly critical of Clinton—her policies, her ties to special interests and her character—during his campaign, making it more difficult to support her now.
The couple has been impressed with Clinton, who has more effectively courted them since the 2004 vice presidential nominee dropped out, people who talk to the Edwardses say. Obama has been less attentive, they say, and some of those close to the Edwardses have been annoyed that Obama has continued to ridicule him for once saying his biggest weakness is that he has a powerful response to seeing pain in others.
Still, since Edwards has left the race, Obama often praises him in public. This week he told Wisconsin voters that Edwards will "be a major voice in the Democratic party for years to come, and I want him involved and partnering with me in moving this country forward."
None of the other former Democratic presidential candidates—Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Bill Richardson or Dennis Kucinich—have endorsed Obama or Clinton, reflecting the party's split over who would be the best president.

So, what do you think they're REALLY talking about?

Hey, nanc...picture them. Obama, Mr and Mrs Edwards..talking about the state of the American family.

I mean...COME ONNNN!

I used to LOVE the Obamanation thing...HOW clever is THAT?! ..but I've stopped using it..sounds like something I can't imagine but may have shoved down my throat (our throats):

an Obama-Nation

God help us all.

Z I really think he'd fade in a general election where he had to debate a guy like McCain. There's no substance to him and he's GREEN behind the ears in a way that will become obvious soon and early in the general election. I don't care what the polls show about a general election that's more than eight months away, that's really only a "likeability" poll. He's good loooking and a great speaker, and other that that he'll get CREAMED! The beast would be FAR more formidable IMO.

Good evening one and all, hello nanc, nice to see you here. Zin told me in an e-mail about her blog. Bon chance Zin! hello Beaker, how the heck are you and you Elmer, thanks for the e-mails. hows things? This race is a choice between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea and Joe stalin thrown in to boot. Not as the incarnations of evil mind you; just as there is NO choice in McCain, Obama and Clinton, none that I can see. they'll all sign an amnesty bill, McCain said he would if it hits his desk and you know the other two will also. Unbelieveable. Johnnymac.

Bill Clinton made the news screaming at pro-lifers today. Like a maniac.

Barack Obama has been nailed plagiarizing another Democrat's speeches.

And there's an idle rumor of a potential running mate for John McCain going around that I won't say because the idea of it makes me so pissed off that I want to get on top of my house with a shotgun and a fifth of Jack Daniels in total rebellion against a John McCain candidacy.

I'm a "calmed down" conservative, reluctantly for McCain at this point, and holding. If the idly rumored running mate proves true, I will be one pissed off monkey.

Don't make me angry John McCain. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

Mr. B...did you hear where some guy's saying mr. Clinton bopped him one in the mouth as an "accident" while shaking another woman's hand? Yup. This guy'd chanted OBAMA 2 times and told CLinton he ought not slam Obama..etc. The LOOK on Clinton's face is UNREAL.........and they say MCCAIN has a temper!?

You're KILLING me not telling us who this rumored running mate for McC is.

Z said...

Welcome, Johnny Mac! You're right...this year will be a tough year. sad.

Z said...

Morgan..I'm not so sure. Hillary's so hated by so many........but, you're right; I imagine McCain could wipe either of them (actually, any Republican could), Hill OR Obama.

I sure do hope you're right, Morgan.

nanc........Hillary's got PLENTY enough of a HINEY!! HA!! She doesn't need a NEW ONE ....she'd need TWO CHAIRS!!!

Z,

Think of the one male Republican John McCain could pick that would piss off pro-life conservatives AND Bush haters the most.

Yeah, that guy.

Z said...

Giuliani's pro choice.. but "piss off Bush haters?"

you're killing me here, Mr. B.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Guiliani is a good guess, but no.

Wrong end of the East Coast.

Keep guessing!

Z said...

Oh. MY. GOSH. MR BEAMISH.

First, I thought LINDSAY GRAHAM?

then CRIST?..........then I remembered "Piss off Bush Haters..."

JEB

am I right?

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Z,

That's precisely the rumor I heard.

I got two words for Jeb.

Terri Schiavo.

Don't do it McCain. Do not even think about it.

(Toldja I'd be a pissed off monkey)

Z said...

Ah, yes..... DO NOT DO IT. Picking a BUSH with all the hatred towards the one we've got now would be political suicide, in my humble opinion. SUICIDE. DONE..America is a socialist state in four years. MOST Dems despise him and MANY Cons do..WHAT is McC thinking?

Twisting the old saying about birds and bushes..."a BUSH in the hand is worth.......zilch"

I think McCain better be finding another bird.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Well, like I said, it's only an idle rumor right now.

You should have seen the person that told me.

I think they need a hearing aid now.

Z said...

Mr. B. If that person had told ME, he'd need dentures now!

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

I can see that, but I was told the rumor by a female, so all I could do was scream.
