Maybe it's all a big coincidence; Three Democrats go to Iraq and decide Saddam has no WMD and now we find out Saddam paid, but.... "Obviously we didn't know it at the time," McDermott spokesman Michael DeCesare said Wednesday. "The trip was to see the plight of the Iraqi children. That's the only reason we went."
"During the trip, the lawmakers expressed skepticism about the Bush administration's claims that Saddam was stockpiling weapons of mass destruction. "
"During the trip, the lawmakers expressed skepticism about the Bush administration's claims that Saddam was stockpiling weapons of mass destruction. "
WAIT! If this trip's about the plight of the Iraqi children (why are 3 American lawmakers going to check out the plight of Iraqi children before the war?), then why express skepticism about claims about stockpiled WMD?
"War is not the answer," Bonior, who is no longer in Congress, said at a news conference while on the trip.
OH, ya, Bonior....that's what Saddam thought, too. (and, come to think of it? don't insult Marvin Gaye by quoting him, okay? BIG Marvin Gaye fan here)

I prefer 'let's get it on'
Flying to Baghdad to support Saddam Hussein as America ratcheted up for war would clearly be a sign of contempt for America and a clear disregard for the duly elected government of the United States of America.
Clearly treasonous.
Okay, show of hands.
Who's surprised that Bonoir, Thompson, and McDermott are Democrats.
Everyone that raised their hands, slap yourselves with it.
Liars and bribe takers!!! And all in the name of watching out for the children. This is the same mantra they try to give to us when they try to pimp out our healthcare to the government and rob from the working to give to the loafers!!!
WEll, since Bonier is from Michigan, I would suggest that this was no mere coincidence.
The whole oil for food scam ties right back into this whole thing.
WVdottr
Elbro...i'm with you!
Beamish...the thought that nobody's commented on your point just shows how lost we are. YOu'll be happy to know I have not slapped myself tonight.
When I saw this story, the first thought was "Got to be Dems".
SURPRISE!
Ya, Frank Family...as if we needed AMERICAN SENATORS checking on the PLIGHT OF IRAQ CHILDREN. What do you want to bet those senators had 3 days in Paris coming and going to Baghdad? Well, at least WE didn't pay for THAT, too!!
WVDottr.....excellent point. Sure would like to know what ever happened to the OIL FOR FOOD case against Chirac, too, wouldn't you? WHat happened to THAT? Sure do wonder how much these 3 Dems had to do with that..on their little trip..KACHING$$
The msm is now saying these guys had NO way of knowing and the Bush people had vetted the trip.
Well, we all KNOW Saddam couldn't have pulled a slick one on Bush's people, RIGHT? naaaaaaa
posturing.
they'll say they did it in the name of peace and they'll have a multitude of dhimmiwittedcrats licking their heels!
sick half to death of the left - they have NO boundaries.
remember when pelousy went to syria? same scenario.
As Michelle Malkin points out, the guy's not called 'Baghdad Jim' for nothing! They didn't 'have a clue who paid for the trip'? They don't have a clue about lots of things!
I'm sure it wasn't their fault, Z. All three of these morons suffer from Liberal Democrat Hype Disorder (LDHD); they can't help providing aid and comfort to our enemy. From their point of view, anyone who hates America can't be all bad.
Pfffttttt.
geeeeZ!...great comments all! Don't we all have grand impressions of the Left?
Frankly, I'm surprised the media's talking about this story of Saddam paying for the trips. Haven't seen this story on CNN, but I know the Yahoo homepage has it and I hear AOL has it on theirs.. they're not known for unbiased titles, either...so, that's a step in the right (Right) direction!
CNN's too busy this morning discussing Bush's speech about how Iraq is promising..but only AFTER they did 2 hit-job stories about Basra fighting increasing and Al Sadr...BOOM...THEN they covered the Bush story! TYPICAL! It always makes me laugh. Here's how it goes "And, this morning in Iraq, fighting is increasing in Basra, with marches in the city protesting....and Al Sadr's still causing huge problems in the country, with the government vowing to stop all the terrorists ...and, in Bush's speech today, he called the war a great success and that fighting is diminishing" then you can see the news readers' eyes wanting to roll but trying hard to look JOURNALISTIC and FAIR!
Speaking of fair, Maureen Dowd was on Larry King two nights ago when she bemoaned the FOX coverage of Rev Wright...'teasing' that "FOX includes scary music behind the audio and includes Michelle Obama lines as if there's some connection" (snicker, snicker) Larry King then giggles and says "Fair and balanced, RIGHT?" Dowd "giggle giggle". (and yes, I do like to watch CNN because it's important to hear all sides; Mr. Z calls it 'self mutilation'!)
Gee, hard to believe Michelle Obama just might have been affected by years of Rev wright sermons, huh? Too much of a stretch for CNN and, again, FOX gets bashed for showing all sides to a situation.
VAT a country.
nanc..I love PELOUSY! GREAT(boy, is SHE in trouble with Hillary, huh? Don't you just HATE that? giggle)
Karen, good to see you here! And yes...excellent memory "Baghdad Jim", now we get it! So appropriate
Mustang..Semper Fi...and LDHD. brilliant.
Good morning to you all!
hiya Z!..I couldnt have said it better..dont u feel like u awoke in an alternative reality!?..ty for the visit to WHT girl..come more often eh? :)
WHT, you come more often, too! It's just great to have you here.
Your new 'masthead' is beautiful.
And, I can't believe you said that, I think "Alternate reality" all the time, particularly when I consider what I just published about Black athletes in Oregon.
oy, I think we're losing it...
