Yahoo says Miss California "fumbled" the question about gay marriage....(see update at the bottom)

FAR BE IT FOR ME TO ADVERTISE LARRY KING'S SHOW, but he is having Perez Hilton (the homosexual judge) and Dennis Prager (the brilliant conservative thinker/radio show host) on his show TONIGHT to DISCUSS THIS ISSUE....It should be excellent.




Miss California (believe it or not) is for marriage between a man and woman. Why is having a different opinion "fumbling"? Yahoo also called it 'awkward'. Well, at least she didn't mention world peace! Imagine how uncomfortable it is to stand up for your beliefs about gay marriage in public, spur of the moment, answering a gay man? Sad, but true. She was really thrown a curve ball, but "Fumbled"? The implication is she wasn't BRIGHT or IT WASN'T OUR TYPE OF ANSWER? See the judge's FACE?

"Here is Perez Hilton, the judge's, response: "He went on to describe Prejean as having 'half a brain' and said he would have stormed onto the stage and ripped off her tiara if she had won." I like the big, liberal open mind, don't you?

There was speculation that the reply had cost her the Miss USA crown, as she was named runner-up with Miss North Carolina, Kristen Dalton, winning the title."

The sad thing is that we have to face the fact that this isn't a country that welcomes or even respects a conservative, traditional point of view anymore. Miss North Carolina, the winner (it had come down to those two, and congratulations to N. Carolina), said she thought American taxpayers should not have to pay for bailouts... The judges must have been really stumped. "NOW what do we do? Nobody said we had to pick between two conservative answers!!"

Liberal Torture. I like it.

UPDATE: "The way miss California answered her question lost her the crown, without a doubt!" Perez told Access Hollywood after the pageant. "Never before that I'm aware of has a contestant been booed at Miss USA." Z: here's the big problem: the audience clapped and cheered when she answered. You can hear it. Oops.

Is this all CONSTITUTIONAL?

Does it bother anybody that America is now in the business of guaranteeing warranties on cars?
Does it bother anybody that an American president can tell an executive to step down?
Does it bother anybody that an American president has told Chrysler they must merge with Fiat?
GM's plans don't warrant WH appreciation and money? The 'experts' aren't happy?

Most of us don't agree with any of this, some of you will. Put that aside. Can someone tell us where IS all this in the constitution? Where does our president get this power? Is it because he's passing our money around and now can demand all of this? And who says the WH experts are smarter than those in industry? What's happened here?

IS THIS what Mr. Obama meant by "SHOVEL READY?" Because, so far, there's been no shoveling of dirt like we thought he meant then (bridges, roads), but PLENTY of 'shoveling' of ...........ya.

WHAT is the HURRY????

Darn, I had a post all prepared since having seen Congresswoman Nita Lowey(D-NY) on television this morning telling the world America's gun laws make it so easy for Mexicans to get guns in this country and take them back there that we are the big problem. "Our gun laws are the problem."

I thought to myself "Wow, I know NOBODY who got their gun easily, TRUST me, lady...but, this is fascinating! Is this from Eric Holder, the new 'memo'? Is there a Holder Memo which says: 'Americans still like their guns no matter what we do, and we have to stop that, and Conservatives are the ones fighting losing their guns AND fighting for better control of the borders, SO...let's blame the border problem on OUR GUN LAWS and we'll finally have reason even the Conservatives might buy!" Clever, eh? Well, not so much. Because, while researching for this post, I found this information that REALLY nails the situation and you'll want to check it out. What more could I possibly say?

But, I still think my angle's worth consideration. And, we'll have to FIX THIS FAST because the ILLEGAL BORDER SKY IS FALLING TODAY, and so, again, the liberal congress will try to implement EVEN MORE stringent gun laws (forget all the FACTS in the linked article, right?) and we'll be toast. Can you say "send us your guns"? "Oh, and by the way, we ARE arming Obama's civilian corps....hope that's okay with YOU! heh heh!" (wait for it)

Here's what happened and this administration's 'solution':

OOPS! EXECUTIVES GOT BONUSES THAT WERE IN THEIR CONTRACTS! (too high or not is an arguable point but not part of this point): NEW REGULATIONS MUST BE PUT IN PLACE - 90% OF THAT MONEY NEEDS TO BE TAXED!.....and NOW, man!

AMERICAN EXECS GET HUGE SALARIES and WE OWN THEM, so: PUT A CAP ON AMERICAN EXECUTIVE SALARIES...WE'LL DECIDE HOW MUCH...and NOW, man!

KYOTO'S WAITING TO BE SIGNED: WE HAVE TO GET IN LINE WITH THE U.N. BECAUSE WE ARE SO GUILTY OF POLLUTING THE WORLD! QUICK, QUICK, New York City's going to drown next month: NEW LAWS MUST BE IN LINE WITH THE WORLD...AND NOW, man!

"Making the World Work Again"

Mr. Obama has a letter published in the Los Angeles Times today, the title of which is my headline above.

I don't know, maybe he sent this same letter to all big city papers, like he sent the letter to Jacques Chirac the other day and, we find today that he sent virtually the same letter to Italy, too. Maybe it's easier just to send a bunch of the same message around? I have no idea, but I've never seen that before.

Getting back to the LA Times letter, there were passages that bothered me and they might bother you, too. There's this: "And if we continue to let financial institutions around the world act recklessly and irresponsibly, we will remain trapped in a cycle of bubble and bust. That is why the upcoming London summit of the world's 20 leading economies is directly relevant to our recovery at home." WE are going to fix world financial institutions? Imagine the paper work, writing reams of laws protecting the world from financial institutions? Where is that "World fix" FILED? At the UN? The WORLD BANK? A whole NEW WORLD BANKING ENTITY? THE WORLD POLICE? There are other statements along these lines that you should know about.....but I just realized they are so numerous that I can't pick them, one by one, out of the letter. Please read it and tell me what you think.

Do I think we can work to improve our economy completely oblivious to the world's economy? Of course not. Do some of the sentiments and plans portrayed in this letter resonate favorably? I guess so, yes. But, it's the language......."Together, we can embrace a common framework that insists on transparency, accountability and a focus on restoring the flow of credit that is the lifeblood of a growing global economy." We haven't even had transparency HERE, how does Mr. Obama imagine we will have transparency from foreign countries?

"Third, we have an economic, security and moral obligation to extend a hand to countries and people who face the greatest risk. If we turn our backs on them, the suffering caused by this crisis will be enlarged and our own recovery will be delayed because markets for our goods will shrink further and more U.S. jobs will be lost." Beautiful sentiment, but those countries he's describing don't buy much NOW, they need help keeping their people ALIVE! Let's come down HARD on Mugabe for a start, huh?? Haven't heard a thing in that regard from this administration. Then, later, after we've sunk trillions into fixing ourselves, and the GLOBAL ECONOMY he's so intent on fixing, maybe then we should take those people to whom we have (hopefully) contributed medicines and help in farming, happily keeping them alive and feeding themselves, and THEN help them get to the point they can buy our STUFF. One step at a time.......Lives are more important than them buying our goods to prop US up.
"We must crack down on offshore tax havens and money laundering." Hoorah, for the sake of fairness, I thought I'd include something I can find no gripe with...that was it.

"I know that America bears its share of responsibility for the mess that we all face. But I also know that we need not choose between a chaotic and unforgiving capitalism and an oppressive government-run economy. That is a false choice that will not serve our people or any people." WHAT? Gee, Mr. Obama, America, so far, IS a capitalist country and YOU're the one leading us to that "oppressive government-run economy" so, what's up with THAT? Why slam capitalism to Europeans? "chaotic and unforgiving?"

"The United States is ready to join a global effort on behalf of new jobs and sustainable growth."

See, this is getting in line with that "BAD STUFF CAN'T HAPPEN" hypothesis I blogged about yesterday, isn't it? It sounds like he's suggesting the WORLD has to implement, legislate RULES and REGULATIONS and WARNINGS and, let's face it, some of us realize where this is going......OWN THE BANKS AND THE BIG COMPANIES because they just can't be trusted to play nice, to be totally altruistic, to contribute to the GLOBAL ECONOMY, the ONE WORLD ORDER (oops, never mind)...."Corporate executives can't be trusted, but you can TRUST WORLD GOVERNMENT!" (ya, right)

LIFE WILL NEVER BE PERFECT. No BUSINESS will ever be perfect. The best we can hope for is that people do the best they can. THIS is what I FEAR: The economy was sabotaged (through the pressure on Freddie and Fannie) to where the housing market had to break BIG TIME, everyone got totally wigged out, the oil prices skyrocketed, worried everyone, our president used words like "DEVASTATING" "CHAOS" "AS BAD AS THE GREAT DEPRESSION" "MAY NEVER RECOVER", so who the HECK would buy something expensive or HIRE anyone, or BUY STOCK with that gloom and doom scenario painted every day for 3 months? Things went BAD......OF COURSE!! Now CAPITALISM has been attacked as IF this country wants or needs another way to go? SINCE WHEN? (since the inauguration, I know) AND, our government's bailing out, buying, owning, calling the shots in telling American corporations how much they can pay their executives (WHAT?)...They BOUGHT THAT RIGHT, GET IT? "WE OWN you, we BAILED YOU OUT, WE can tell you what to pay your CEO and if you can buy private planes and ........and........." Where's it stop? By the way, I'm not real sure Germany or France or any other country will be eager for US to "lead". I wonder if he's considered that they, too, think they've got something to say? Nice way to start a conference with them all there, huh? Particularly, when the leaders there are calling our stimulus package a big mistake, saying it's exactly the opposite of what should be done. I wish you could all read about that, but our media doesn't want you to know. He's telling Germany they need to invest more on 'stimulus' and they're saying they're doing very well without it, which they are. By the way, that car situation Mr. Z told us about has been a raving hit there....people are buying cars, auto companies have ramped up the hours for their workers, etc. They're planning on doing this stimulus again. THAT one worked.

Russia, used to the anti-capitalism and pro-socialist agendas, might be the only one really comfortable at this upcoming G20 meeting. And Obama, of course.

Bad Things Happen....don't they?

Or, should I say, CAN THEY? Can we live with it when BAD THINGS HAPPEN? We used to.

Z has finally figured out, once and for all, what separates, most completely and, certainly, succinctly, the Right from the Left...."BAD THINGS HAPPEN" (or **HIT HAPPENS) is a major GREAT DIVIDE. It's something I BELIEVE the two sides will pretty decisively and unanimously differ on. Here's what I think:

It seems to me that being responsible for yourself means that, sometimes, bad things happen...and we know that and accept it and deal with it. If you depend on laws to fix things, if you look to sue because you slipped in a little water on the grocery store floor as if somebody'd done it to you on purpose, if you believe bad things shouldn't ever happen and, if they do then you need retribution, is that real life? Is it realistic? Did you spill really hot coffee in your lap? Well, who asked you to drive while sipping it? But SUE for your clumsiness? If you're of the 'cradle to grave mentality', it seems to me you're less likely to 'suck it up' and just take your knocks and get over it.

There is a very sad story about a man in a very uncomfortable position. Do I think he needs some help? Maybe. What do you think of the story linked here? It's a tear jerker, but it got me to wondering if this country has come to the point that nobody can ever accept really bad things have happened and that we have to make better, more well thought out choices, or live by the laws of the majority, and that's that. (by the way, I have NO problem with the extension he's asking for, hoping this situation can be solved....I only cite it here to make the point that sometimes things go awry and we have to live with them...I certainly wish the Liberians in my link the very best. They love America, 'come on down'!!).

In Paris, one day, I was walking to the grocery store and saw a hole in the sidewalk......instead of huge barricades and whatever else Americans might have been pressured to install around it by insurance companies, etc., there was................yellow tape. Yes, only a thin yellow tape and a sign "TRAVAIL" (work) I thought "WOW....they're counting on me to STEP AROUND THE HOLE like a grown up. GO FIGURE." At Brasserie Lipp, a very popular and wonderful restaurant, I went to the ladies room the first time there and saw that the stairs were probably the steepest I've ever descended. When I got back to our table, I told Mr Z and our friends "If this staircase had been in the U.S., there would have been a desk at the bottom manned by two attornies signing people up just in case they fell."

Do you know any ridiculous law suits you felt were wrong? I wish I had a link but, years ago, a burglar broke into a house in Los Angeles and fell through the roof, hurting himself. He sued. He won. That's my 'favorite'. Another case I just remembered was a little boy in our neighborhood who decided to climb over the fence around a newly built pool next door to him which had no water in it yet so he could skate board on the wavy concrete. He broke his arm and sued. He won. WHAT?

It seems to me it's nuts to decide that if ONE PERSON dies in a skiing accident, for example, helmets must be forced on everyone. Or, if one child has a peanut allergy, that child shouldn't stay home because he has the problem, but all children need to refrain from bringing any peanut product to school because the school will be sued if anything happens. Sometimes, TERRIBLE things happen....DON'T THEY? CAN'T THEY? And, doesn't that NEED to be okay? Didn't it used to be that a sad thing happened and we licked our wounds, dusted ourselves off and went on living? Or not?

What do you think? I'm having a hard time here trying to really articulate something I've thought of a lot lately, this point about suing for everything, or forcing everyone to go along with changing rules because one person has a problem with something...........help me out here, would you?

IS it a Left/Right issue? IS it dangerous to a society? Can we revert to a citizenry more vigilant and obeying common sense like steering away from a hole in the street or being extra careful on the stairs? CAN we let people struggle to fix their problems without stepping in? SHOULD we PROTECT EVERYONE? IS this the kind of thinking behind what's been created in programs most of us feel will not work in fixing our economy today?

"Say AHHHHH?" or "HUUHHH?"

I had my teeth cleaned yesterday. I walked in and sat down with Ann, my hygienist, and she said "Z, what's going on in our country? Everything I hear from the new administration is about attacking the successful! Don't they realize they pay the bills, they hire us, they keep this country running? How can this be happening in America? We're spending ALL this money and we're not sure where it's going!"

Ann is right. And, by the way, how bad can things be when Hillary's just given $900 million to Palestinians? (Gee, maybe Americans could have used a little of that to pay for that stimulating part of the bill, STD prevention....? or maybe the frisbee park?) The deal is that the Palestinian Authority is supposed to 'organize' the dispensing of those monies. Ah, good.........the same kind of transparency and accountability we give Congress. Nice!! (not) If America was smarter, and Hillary more honest, we'd be saying the same thing I heard a comedienne say recently about the nonaccountibility of the billions we've given to bail-outs. "Accountability? I want RECEIPTS!"

So does my hygienist. And she's right.

BUY MORE CHINESE?

Hillary Clinton in China: "Because our economies are so intertwined the Chinese know that in order to start exporting again to its biggest market, the United States had to take some very drastic measures with this stimulus package," Clinton said.

"We have to incur more debt. It would not be in China's interest if we were unable to get our economy moving again."

Clinton added: "The US needs the investment in Treasury bonds to shore up its economy to continue to buy Chinese products." (didn't we once say BUY AMERICAN?)

Republican Governors face a stimulating quandary....

Republican governors are 'split' on the Stimulus package and whether they should take money from it. There are sneaky (well, everything was 'sneaky' because nobody was given time to read it, of course) little bits in it which change the way they're used to doing business; Mississippi says they have on their laws that one can't take welfare if they flatly refuse to work. That's mandated to change IF they take that part of the package. And, the same benefits will apply to part-time workers, too, which is now mandated but wasn't in the state laws.

Arnold , of course, says "Governor Sanford says that he does not want to take the federal stimulus package money. And I want to say to him: I'll take it. I'm more than happy to take his money or any other governor in this country that doesn't want to take this money, I take it, because we in California need it," he said. (from article linked above)

Here's the dilemma....David Gregory on MEET THE PRESS Sunday morning grilled Bobby Jindal with "You going to turn away money to help your UNEMPLOYED?" Get the Democrat spin? (No principles SHOULD be adhered to because PEOPLE NEED THIS! There simply IS no way to help without this entire package!..not)

Mark Sanford of S. Carolina just keeps rising in my estimation. He's for not taking money. He doesn't believe it's helpful, he doesn't want to screw his state into accepting the terms. He's read and done his homework....

But, will these principled men suffer politically (in their own party) for it? The Democrats (media, too) have done such a good job of painting this as the LAST EFFORT TO FIX AMERICA. THE PEOPLE NEED IT. IF WE DO NOT DO THIS WE MAY NEVER RECOVER, right? Will many Americans understand it's NOT the 'fix', it might be exactly what we shouldn't have? Will most Americans just want the entitlements they're being manipulated into feeling they deserve?

Quite a QUANDARY... I don't envy the principled governors, but I surely do admire them.

Just saw this: Even CNN's getting the point; Apparently, if you lost your job, you won't get help on your mortgage. Wait, even I think it might be good to help people in that condition. What's up, Nancy and Harry?

Take Joe Martinez of Bristow, Va., who fits the profile of the "responsible" homeowner Obama cited in the plan. The government contractor and his wife thought they did everything right when they bought their brand new $600,000 house two years ago. They put 5% down and got a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage they could afford.

Others in their neighborhood, however, couldn't keep up with the payments. As foreclosure rose, the value of the couple's home plummeted to $450,000, leaving them doubtful they'd ever recover their investment.

Martinez called their lender to try to get into the Hope for Homeowners program, which would reduce their loan balance to 90% of the home's current value. But they were turned down because they weren't in default....

Young Chuck in Montana bought a horse from a farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day.
