Mr. Obama has a letter published in the Los Angeles Times today, the title of which is my headline above.
I don't know, maybe he sent this same letter to all big city papers, like he sent the letter to Jacques Chirac the other day and, we find today that he sent virtually the same letter to Italy, too. Maybe it's easier just to send a bunch of the same message around? I have no idea, but I've never seen that before.
Getting back to the LA Times letter, there were passages that bothered me and they might bother you, too. There's this: "And if we continue to let financial institutions around the world act recklessly and irresponsibly, we will remain trapped in a cycle of bubble and bust. That is why the upcoming London summit of the world's 20 leading economies is directly relevant to our recovery at home." WE are going to fix world financial institutions? Imagine the paper work, writing reams of laws protecting the world from financial institutions? Where is that "World fix" FILED? At the UN? The WORLD BANK? A whole NEW WORLD BANKING ENTITY? THE WORLD POLICE? There are other statements along these lines that you should know about.....but I just realized they are so numerous that I can't pick them, one by one, out of the letter. Please read it and tell me what you think.
Do I think we can work to improve our economy completely oblivious to the world's economy? Of course not. Do some of the sentiments and plans portrayed in this letter resonate favorably? I guess so, yes. But, it's the language......."Together, we can embrace a common framework that insists on transparency, accountability and a focus on restoring the flow of credit that is the lifeblood of a growing global economy." We haven't even had transparency HERE, how does Mr. Obama imagine we will have transparency from foreign countries?
"Third, we have an economic, security and moral obligation to extend a hand to countries and people who face the greatest risk. If we turn our backs on them, the suffering caused by this crisis will be enlarged and our own recovery will be delayed because markets for our goods will shrink further and more U.S. jobs will be lost." Beautiful sentiment, but those countries he's describing don't buy much NOW, they need help keeping their people ALIVE! Let's come down HARD on Mugabe for a start, huh?? Haven't heard a thing in that regard from this administration. Then, later, after we've sunk trillions into fixing ourselves, and the GLOBAL ECONOMY he's so intent on fixing, maybe then we should take those people to whom we have (hopefully) contributed medicines and help in farming, happily keeping them alive and feeding themselves, and THEN help them get to the point they can buy our STUFF. One step at a time.......Lives are more important than them buying our goods to prop US up.
"We must crack down on offshore tax havens and money laundering." Hoorah, for the sake of fairness, I thought I'd include something I can find no gripe with...that was it.
"I know that America bears its share of responsibility for the mess that we all face. But I also know that we need not choose between a chaotic and unforgiving capitalism and an oppressive government-run economy. That is a false choice that will not serve our people or any people." WHAT? Gee, Mr. Obama, America, so far, IS a capitalist country and YOU're the one leading us to that "oppressive government-run economy" so, what's up with THAT? Why slam capitalism to Europeans? "chaotic and unforgiving?"
"The United States is ready to join a global effort on behalf of new jobs and sustainable growth."
See, this is getting in line with that "BAD STUFF CAN'T HAPPEN" hypothesis I blogged about yesterday, isn't it? It sounds like he's suggesting the WORLD has to implement, legislate RULES and REGULATIONS and WARNINGS and, let's face it, some of us realize where this is going......OWN THE BANKS AND THE BIG COMPANIES because they just can't be trusted to play nice, to be totally altruistic, to contribute to the GLOBAL ECONOMY, the ONE WORLD ORDER (oops, never mind)...."Corporate executives can't be trusted, but you can TRUST WORLD GOVERNMENT!" (ya, right)
LIFE WILL NEVER BE PERFECT. No BUSINESS will ever be perfect. The best we can hope for is that people do the best they can. THIS is what I FEAR: The economy was sabotaged (through the pressure on Freddie and Fannie) to where the housing market had to break BIG TIME, everyone got totally wigged out, the oil prices skyrocketed, worried everyone, our president used words like "DEVASTATING" "CHAOS" "AS BAD AS THE GREAT DEPRESSION" "MAY NEVER RECOVER", so who the HECK would buy something expensive or HIRE anyone, or BUY STOCK with that gloom and doom scenario painted every day for 3 months? Things went BAD......OF COURSE!! Now CAPITALISM has been attacked as IF this country wants or needs another way to go? SINCE WHEN? (since the inauguration, I know) AND, our government's bailing out, buying, owning, calling the shots in telling American corporations how much they can pay their executives (WHAT?)...They BOUGHT THAT RIGHT, GET IT? "WE OWN you, we BAILED YOU OUT, WE can tell you what to pay your CEO and if you can buy private planes and ........and........." Where's it stop? By the way, I'm not real sure Germany or France or any other country will be eager for US to "lead". I wonder if he's considered that they, too, think they've got something to say? Nice way to start a conference with them all there, huh? Particularly, when the leaders there are calling our stimulus package a big mistake, saying it's exactly the opposite of what should be done. I wish you could all read about that, but our media doesn't want you to know. He's telling Germany they need to invest more on 'stimulus' and they're saying they're doing very well without it, which they are. By the way, that car situation Mr. Z told us about has been a raving hit there....people are buying cars, auto companies have ramped up the hours for their workers, etc. They're planning on doing this stimulus again. THAT one worked.
Russia, used to the anti-capitalism and pro-socialist agendas, might be the only one really comfortable at this upcoming G20 meeting. And Obama, of course.

But that is what I believe. Ok, I'm a conspiracy theorist at heart. But it makes too much sense to be totally discounted. Doesn't it? Somebody please tell me I have not lost my everlovin' mind? Does anybody else look at this situation and think it is right on track for the people who caused it and now want to "save us"? The panic, the unemployment, the stock market and now the government trying to pass a bill to insert itself into privately held companies and the President trying to bypass all voting and debate and make decisions on his own concerning health reform and such... is it such a big leap to think this was all designed to lead us to Socialism and Communism?
The short story here is that Obama and his cohorts want to socialize and nationalize the banks and private institutions. That's as simple as it gets and fortunately for them, there are enough fools out there who are more than happy to trade everyone else's freedom away so they don't have to bear any responsibility.
Heard this morning that Goldman Sachs wants to give the money back to hussien so they can be free of him and his ilks liberal fascism. However hussien is refusing to take it back. Should have thought of that before voting this fascist into power.
I was reading earlier that over in Venezuela Chavez is accelerating his program of collective farms, to boost agriculture. Two things on that, where else was that crap tried and resulted in so many starving to death. Second, what makes you think that Hussein and his cronies aren't thinking of that.
Their brownshirt fascist thugs are already asking people sign pledges to their messiah and all that now.
Almost forgot Z, your comment was in my moderation queue, happens sometimes, looks like a comment has disappeared but it's there waiting for approval. It's wordpress's comments engine being too clever. :)
MK, thanks re: the blog...good to know! No worries, mate!
Hey, is that CHAVEZ you're suggesting wants pledges? Obama's people have called for that in regard to one of his community programs, too.
You got me thinking: It shouldn't be too darned long before Obama calls for a SUMMIT with Chavez and Castro, to WORK TOGETHER...what do you want to bet!?
It was indeed abotaged, Z. I firmly believe this so-called "crisis" was purposely created in order to push socialism down our throats, which is exactly what Obama/Pelosi and crew are doing. They want to run every aspect of our lives and make Americans totally dependent on the government. Somehow, we've got to take back our country!
Great post Z,
This is nearing the end of a long march to central world government. When you see the words "collective effort, common framework, etc. those are buzz words for global collectivism.
"I also know that we need not choose between a chaotic and unforgiving capitalism and an oppressive government-run economy. That is a false choice that will not serve our people or any people."
Spoken like a true Marxist.
This sentence embodies a disdain for individual freedom which capitalism engenders. In order to rein in that individualism an oppressive government-run economy is necessary. It's already begun. This is not a choice of the people, it's an inevitability.
Everywhere it has been tried, it has failed, and created despair and despotism. In order to have this so-called equality, thorough regulation and enforcement of same, becomes necessary, and those who determine this necessity will use any methods they have to, to maintain the desired status quo.
The U.S. has lost most of her manufacturing industry, and now is so interdependent, we are already enmeshed in the global plan. Global warming or climate change is an element in lowering our standard of living.
It will be used to control our daily lives in ways we haven't even considered.
It is a hoax, perhaps one of the most ambitious, ever conceived.
These are the reasons I opposed NAFTA and the rush to join the global economy. I realized at the time, while the rest of the world was in tune with this global interdependence, most had more to gain, but the USA and the West had the most to lose.
This is nothing more than the diminution of the greatest, and freest countries and civilizations in history. A redistribution of the wealth of these nations amongst the world's poorer nations.
To me, those poorer nations will not improve much, if at all, and the wealthier countries will have our living standards and cultures falter, and join the mediocrity of so many others.
This is the New World Order, a dream of men and women in the halls of power and greed. Perhaps they have thought that this will be the answer for a peaceful world. I doubt it, because peace is elusive without freedom. Peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but embodies the yearning to be free.
"We must crack down on off shore tax havens and money laundering".
This is another lie, and will never happen. Not for the favored few. No sirreee.

The megalomania and self over estimating of King Obama continues. I don't think I have ever read anything as patronizing as this in my whole life. It boils down to one idea: "I am your savior, wherever you are in the world. Now that I am in charge, we can no longer fail: I will tell you what to do, and you follow up with your actions."
This is like Hitler and Stalin combined.
The European Nations consider these idiotic plans of King Obama exactly as what they are: Idiotic. Germany, for instance, has absolutely no intent to follow this Obama scheme, which basically is the accelerated way to socialism/communism. Given the fact that the origin of this whole crisis the U.S. Democrat-induced bad loan deal was, Germany had only to deal with the aftermath of that through the banking system. Germany is concentrating on limited targeted action for stimuli, VERY limited direct help to companies, if any, and a loan package to Banks which had suffered through buying toxic papers from U.S. institutions. The whole package is a very small fraction of this Obama nightmare package.
In terms of simplifying the view on this situation, I'd like to do that as follows (I am a generalist, so forgive me for simplifying):
1. The financial crisis was generally created in the U.S. by:
(a) The U.S. government/congress forcing banks to provide loans to people who couldn't afford such loan.
(b) Speculators who speculate on special financial products, created to satisfy the market demand for more financial papers. For me, sheer financial speculating on whether a commodity goes up or down is an absurdity, and defies the good old investment idea that one invests in existing assets and thus contributes to the functioning of the economy.
Having said that, again simplifying, my actions would be as follows:
1. Absolute stop lending to persons/entities who don't qualify.
2. Isolate the toxic assets in a separate unit, away from the banks (then the banks would not have any excuses anymore).
3. Forbid speculative financial activities (if people want to speculate, go to LV).
4. Let the market regulate itself (it will) - no support for companies, individuals etc. whatsoever. This will have a very sobering/cleaning effect.
5. Limited stimuli, in special, separate packages (no more lumping together in one big, completely obscure package), like the very effective wrecking premium in Germany.
End of the story. No more anything else. No more socialist programs hidden anywhere.
And, every country should do exactly the same. And we will all be OK.
Mr.Z
Okaaaaaaaaaaay, you can't tell Mr. Z isn't a "King" Obama fan, huh?
I just wish Mr. Z was wrong.
He isn't.
(Okay, honey, NOW can we go out to dinner? KIDDING!) :0-)
ALL of you have good comments..I SURE wish I thought you were ALL WRONG, but...alas.
We all see what's happening and most of America's sleeping, with visions of free tuition for their kids, free healthcare, and the WHOLE WORLD LOVING US AGAIN! Imagine? AS IF?
I've been thinking and thinking about these young guys; Obama, Geithner, Gibbs, etc etc...they're so full of socialist teachings from college that they don't even see the problem. In fact, WE are the problem. We are what could hold them back by this 'better America' which will NOT honor hard work, NOT honor sacrifice, NOT honor family, etc etc.
By the way, wasn't it the far Left which kept screaming "BUSH WON'T LET US SACRIFICE ... WE need to sacrifice for this war!" ??
Well....we're willing to sacrifice ourselves NOW, as Mr. Z and some of you have said over the last few months, let us sacrifice with this economy, ride it out and come out on the other end a stronger America, not just another socialist hole. Our kids would have learned that nothing comes easy or for free, our families would have become stronger thru helping each other, our churches and synagogues would have become stronger from our need for faith even more when times are tough, our unions would have realized they're empty shells at times like this, ..etc etc. but, no.
We're taking the easy way..printing money, stealing initiative, etc
very sad times for America.
I too believe that the economy was sabotaged but I need a bit more proof before I can shift the words from "I believe it was" to simply "it was". There are businessmen hungry for power and more wealth behind Obama, and their own wealth isn't enough, they want yours too. Soros is not a philanthropist but a cold blooded destroyer interested in his own power and wealth even if he has to destroy the world to get it.
I do not believe how Obama is capitulating with the rest of the world. He is losing his grip and if America was not respected as they say because of Bush - whom I supported - how much worse will it be with Obama? He is the epitome of an ego manic! Great essay Z!
America is just a stepping stone for Obama to become king of the world. I hope your world map came with an eraser folks. The lines are going to start getting very blurry.
did obama's teleprompter write these letters, or did he?
