The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

We have a set of children's religious books, and one of them explains The Lord's Prayer, line by line.

I always enjoyed reading it with each child, because it is also a great tune up for us adults!

I too am praying for Mitt.

Your selection this week is very appropriate, Z ... God bless you.

Yes Lord, carry us through another four years of Obama as we unyoke ourselves further from those in the Republican Party who love everything about Obama except his party affiliation and his unwillingness to directly finance abortion and Islamic regimes with taxpayer dollars.

Let us see Romney humbled and defeated, as he was four years ago behind McCain and Huckabee.

Comfort those of us in the coming days as the dark cloud of Obama's second term as we celebrate the silver lining of Romney passing into obscurity, and may the calls for conservatives to toss aside their principles and vote for him forever hang about the necks of those who uttered them.

This I pray in Your Name, Amen.

Dear, Lord,

Please grant us the wisdom to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to do what we can to change whatever we fear and dislike, and -- above all -- the wisdom to know the difference.

THY will be done, INDEED!

We should add earnest prayers of intercession for the victims of "Sandy," our most recent disaster, who are desperately trying to survive without heat and light -- and in many cases without food or shelter -- in freezing cold weather.

We should never forget for an instant, that "There, but for the Grace of God, go I."

Special prayers for the devastated areas of Long Island, New York City -- especially Staten Island -- and New Jersey where millions are suffering with newly-imposed Third World conditions.

May these innocent victims find the strength and the courage to persevere in the face of overwhelming adversity and may every possible effort be made on their behalf completely free from political considerations or the pursuit of selfish interests of any kind.

Yes we must accept God's will, but Freethink's specific points should be taken to heart. If we don't do our best for the ones who need the most, what good are we?

I don't have much faith in the Red Cross, but who could we send donations to? Does anyone know?

Amen and Amen.

I've been praying for a long time that Obama will be defeated.

Satan you kingdom must come down.
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
Satan your kingdom must come down"

Z - While reading David McCullough's book - John Adams - I copied down the prayer that he - Adams - wrote during the War for Independence. I thought it was appropriate for the coming election:

May Heaven grant us victory, if we deserve it. If not, patience, humility and persistence under defeat.

It fits right in with your Sunday Faith Blog - don't you think - Z?

God willing, Mr. AOW and I will be casting our votes very early. I will be arriving to the polls -- with Mr. AOW and his scooter -- before 6:00 A.M. and hope to vote before I go to work.

I expect the late-afternoon lines to be very long.

I think we must remember that there was a revolution of ideas long before there was a revolution of gunfire and cannonade. I do believe John Adams would have asked the Lord for patience and persistence; I do not think he would have asked for humility toward the British. Neither do I think we should bow to any president, or any other politician. They work for us—we do not work for them. I personally look upon Obama as a punishment for our wickedness, and if he is reelected, our wickedness demands another four years, during which time we can sit idly by and watch the destruction of America. And I mean total destruction. American may be able to repair the damage of four years, but never eight; not in any of our lifetimes, anyway.

Very good point about only UNION workers being allowed to help, even if perfectly qualified.

THAT is probably the biggest scandal that SHOULD come out of the Sandy debacle.

More than anything else that sad mentality is the measure of how low we've sunk morally and how we've embraced selfishness, stupidity and short-sightedness for a little temporary financial advantage.

DISGUSTING!

PS: Thanks, Helen, for the acknowledgement. I wish I could answer your very pertinent question.

Z - I've been thinking that you might take my comment as meaning that YOU are going to lose on Tuesday. In fact - I copied down John Adams prayer because I believe that this is going to be a close race - and I might have to accept defeat.

I didn't want you to think that the prayer was intended for you.
I am prepared for either side to win - or lose.

Do you know what I am saying? I just didn't want you to get the wrong idea about my comment.

What's sad is even in the short period that I have "known" Beamish, it's very apparent he is becoming unhinged.

Either he's playing a sick joke or we will see some horrible headline one day of a extremist right winger going off the deep end. .

You're losing alll sense of reality Beam. I'll
Be praying for you. Not kiddImg here my friend.

Lord, please watch over your children that were in Sandy's path. Shower them with your grace and keep the safe from any other harm.

On a lighter note, please give Beamish a brain so he can escape OZ.

Helen Highwater, I give the Red Cross NOTHING due to a personal grudge involving their selling coffee and food to people helping out in disasters, HOWEVER, the Salvation Army gets everything I can afford. Try asking your local chapter if they have a conduit to the flooded areas. I'm sure they do. If not them, how about your church, or any local church. Most of them will also be doing what they can to help.

Not at all, Rita. The key difference between you and I (aside from your Baby Boomer slavish devotion to the welfare state) is that as a conservative, my principles aren't disposable and I balk at suggestions that they should be.

Dear Lord,

Help Average American account for his affirmative vote for the founding father of gay marriage and taxpayer subsidized abortions as he wakes up Wednesday morning with Obama smiling victorious over his efforts to destroy conservatism in the Republican Party.

From Z of GeeeZ:

I think all of us would rather give up the term Conservative than belong in Beamish's club, so go ahead, Beamish...make sure Social Security's gone and Medicare's gone...and make sure they're both gone tomorrow, as you've always said you'd like it.

Congratulations.

Oh golly geeez! You mean Baby Boomers would have to finally face the stark choice between being responsible for themselves or starving to death?

Don't you leftists fret now. No matter which of the two sides of the false dichotomy gets elected to shore up your welfare state, I'll ask the next generation really nicely not to blow up your retirement homes to cut costs.

I'm sure they'll listen to me, as I actually want them to keep their own money.
