The End of a Free Republic

By JB Williams Wednesday, June 11, 2008CFP

Karl Marx was right. “Democracy is the road to socialism” – in a nation hell-bent upon voting itself gifts from the public trough. Once an electorate is hooked on government solutions to personal self-induced problems, like a junkie on crack, the democratic process once used to guarantee individual freedom is perverted into a tool used to extinguish individual freedom. Democrats call it a greater good. The rest of the world calls it socialism.

It only took America 232 years to arrive at this moment…

It is in this way, that Thomas Jefferson was also right. “A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.

Our founders chose against a democracy for this very reason. They chose instead, a representative republic, whereby the will of a majority could be represented, without running roughshod over a minority in that process. The key to a representative republic, or any self-sustaining form of self-governance for that matter, is ultimate respect for the individual. Not any specific voting bloc seeking to run roughshod over another.

The inherent and unalienable right of every individual to freely determine their own destiny is at the root of self-governance. Every initiative that intrudes, impedes or attempts to circumvent and alienate this fundamental set of rights is a direct affront on freedom and liberty.

Yet this is exactly what today’s Democrats have chosen. They have bought into the ideas of Marx, Lenin and Stalin, that the “greater communal good” of the working class (proletariat) trumps individual freedom and liberty. Individuals have neither the right to fail or succeed.

As a result, the entire Democrat political platform is built upon the notion that “fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine” – in the name of a greater good, of course.

The 50% who no longer pay taxes in America (most of them Democrats) have the right to strip the other 50% of Americans (most of them Republicans) of their lawful earnings for the betterment of a communal good. Only government has the right to determine each individuals worth. Even McCain and other Republicans have fallen for this line of thinking.

The central power in Washington DC must have the power to decide how much is too much and how little is too little, for every American. This is the definition of socialism, not self-governance. It’s also the basis for today’s Democrat Party.

Self-sufficient American taxpayers are called “greedy capitalist pigs” while government dependents seeking the earnings of others are referred to as “generous patriots,” compassionate towards the welfare of their fellow Americans.

Of course, these generous patriots are only generous with the earnings of others, not their own. And those who earn and pay taxes seldom ask anything of their government or their neighbors.

Winston Churchill said it well; “The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. How can a nation survive leadership by people who often can’t manage their own lives?

What do we have when those who depend upon government for their very existence outnumber those who pick up the government tab? Because, that’s where we are in America circa 2008.

For years now, national elections have been decided by 51-49 or 49-51. When those who want to be government dependent outnumber those who want to live free of government intrusion, democracy will be used to strip 49% of the population of their rights in order to pay for the wants and desires of the simple majority.

Jefferson was right about many things, among them the fact that “Information is the currency of democracy.” A democratic society will never be any better than the quality of information used to make decisions. Today, we swim in a cesspool of disinformation and our democracy is showing the corrosive results of a poorly informed electorate.

Simpler times brought forth simpler truths, which would be politically incorrect terminology today. “As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy.” Lincoln put a fine point on the topic with this statement.

No man should be enslaved; therefore, no man can be master of anything more than his own destiny… This is my idea of freedom. This is the only American promise worth keeping.

Yet today’s Democrats seek dominion over the lives of others. They seek the power to decide the worth of individuals. They seek the power to “free” some by “enslaving” others. In the end, modern Democrats will enslave both. They seek the power of life and death over the most innocent and defenseless American citizens.

Just as the debtor is enslaved to the lender, the welfare recipient is enslaved to his caretaker. Government dependents vote for Democrats because they must. Democrats promise to keep them enslaved by keeping the breadcrumbs of life flowing.

The American electorate has been trained to ask what its government can do to solve personal challenges. Not so long ago, the general welfare of our nation meant simply maintaining a maximum level of freedom and liberty, which allowed every American an equal opportunity to determine their own station in life.

But today, Democrats have redefined general welfare to mean government entitlements which guarantee a big screen TV in every home, a new car in every driveway, free socialized medicine for all and equal economic status regardless of unequal economic productivity.

This is the Democrat version of Democracy and just as our founders warned, a government powerful enough to provide for all your needs is powerful enough to take everything you have earned.

Jefferson said, “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them..." "Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” We have failed to stop Democrats from doing just that and this reality leaves us with two more Jefferson quotes…

Every generation needs a new revolution.”

Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state.

I wish a single Democrat were as wise and as American as Jefferson!

Until they are again, it’s up to the rest of the nation to keep them far from power.

We wish to thank JonBerg for reminding us of this piece written after the election of 2008.  Apparently, no one was listening then. Bill Whittle told us recently that we cannot sustain the American Republic without virtuous citizens; without them, the Republic must ultimately fail because virtue is not a trait inherent to mankind. If it is not taught to our children, they will mature into citizens without virtue.

Have we already reached this juncture? Is it even possible to save the Republic?  After reviewing this video, we don't think so.

I've watched the video three times.

Surreal!

These are students likely attending American University, Georgetown University, Washington University, George Mason University, one of the suburban community colleges. At what tuition rate? On whose dime?

Ah, America's youth. The leaders of tomorrow. I pray those youg people in the video do not represent all of america's youth.

The JB Williams piece is exceptionally well done. I would only change the word "Democrats" for "statists". The Democrats may be the worst, but they do not have a monopoly on statism.

"Have we already reached this juncture?"

Sadly, the answer is yes.

But not a communist.

I am not so concerned about the American character.
It hasn't changed that much.
There was a lot of apathy among conservatives this time, again.

I think it still can be saved, but the chance is probably less than 50/50.

"Is it even possible to save the Republic?"

I don't think so.

I think we have seen our last free election and have abdicated our last vestige of liberty as our founders envisioned it.

Since my health is poor and I am 70 years old, I probably won't live to see President Obama installed as president for life. For that I am grateful.

“The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

Mot of these people don't even know what or who the hell they are voting for.

As evidence, see the Howard Stern audios of him asking voters about the election (in 2008 and 2012), any "Jay-walking" on Jay Leno, or the fact that the fastest trending query on google before the election was "Who is running for President"

This election was about entitlements. We had just enough people afraid that Mitt Romney was going to take the stuff away to push Obama over the top.

We are at the juncture now. It is the end, I think. I think this because of the video, because of the stupid leftists who comment here, which is representative of the communist point of view, and a I think this because as a people, we no longer deserve a free republic.

As to whether Obama is a communist, yes he is. Definitely. Questions? View D'Souza's film because he is 100% correct about Obama. Now if anyone disagrees with that, then you are part of the problem.

Let's recap. Americans are not shocked by Benghazi. Americans not are not shocked by our debt. Americans are not shocked by the voter fraud, which is rampant. Americans are not shocked by our unemployment. Americans are not shocked by the increases in welfare payments ... then NOTHING will shock Americans into action.

Enough of the pity parties and demise talk.

Obama is our elected leader and we are stuck with him for four more years. We can act incoherent and deranged or we can be smart.

The truth is we are headed for four more years of economic mayhem. Obama can't lead and will not produce jobs. It is time to rescue ourselves and form a better opposition then the Tea Party.

We need to stress unity to an out of control failures

If you are Black, White, Latino, Gay or human good luck finding a job. If you are employed has your workplace become a cross between Dante's inferno and a Mental Health
Asylum and your paycheck shrinks weekly. Are the costs of higher education rising while Bill Ayers clones work 15 hour work weeks. Are medical costs out of control? Are you tired of environmental nuts killing jobs? Do you want government to be accountable?

Time for a Unified Opposition open to all except Communists, Racial Power and Conspiracy Freaks

Jobs
Leadership
Accountability

Transparency
Competency

No bs about homophobia, No conspiracy nuts, No racial arsonist

Lets get off the canvas.

AOW; and they're PROUD. Remember when Americans knew that Communism doesn't work and how shameful a situation it created for ALL the people in a country; bringing EVERYBODY down instead of lifting one person (but the leaders) UP?
And that is what Obama seems to want now by screwing the rich he resents so much; and the lefties just can't see it.

ConsonFire:

I think we've reached that juncture, too.........but I was also cheered to read that at least 18-14 yr olds voted largely for Romney...and, let's face it, this race was so close. Hardly a mandate, though Obama treats it like that. Maybe nobody told HIM the numbers so he wouldn't get too angry?:-)

Ed...Conservatives lost it again, you're right. They just weren't smart enough to realize this was NOT the time to get so precious about everybody they voted sharing exactly everything they believe....Dems don't do that; they win and they're ruining America and some conservatives just couldn't see it...they'll pay now. So will we, for their stupidity.

SF...and the headlines yesterday on Yahoo were that Europe's turning around now after "3 hard years". SAYS WHO?

Joe....you made me so sad. You're a treasure around here and I hope you live to see young Republicans FINALLY find the words with which to educate young kids who think they're liberals.

Chuck; it's all greeed...the left still calls the rich greedy...I say "Greedy America" is now the lower and middle class with their palms out for a freebie.
I have a young high school friend who worked a precinct..she said that the obama voters told her they voted for him and "i don't anything about the propositions...can you help?"
Yes, they knew NOTHING about the props and they knew NOTHING about obama, either, or they couldn't have voted for him.

I found it interesting that she lives in an area with Persians...she said they voted largely Republican....by a LONG shot... and had no compunction about sharing who they were voting for. I wondered how much of that could be the way Obama's kissing Iran's patoot.

Thersites..time will tell...

Jack...I heard Hugh Hewitt say something like that: "Americans don't want to see how bad things are now; they're afraid of someone who said he could fix things and too unaware to recognize a real man of virtue."

BEAKERKIN FOR PRESIDENT!!
yES YES YES...well said!

We need to get our platform in order, wait on the social stuff and don't let the dems speak for us on those subjects, and learn how to make Americans WAKE UP.
How?

GREAT POST.

I told Z how I see it and was telling my wife that the division in this country between federalist / antifederalist, then south - north isn't gone. This is a very divided country. The topic of division keeps changing.

I am very pessimistic of what can happen if the fiscal cliff really happens (stock market crash, asset loss, very high unemployment, dollar worth nothing.) Revolutions happen in those conditions. Those conditions fostered the French revolution. (France was broke because of the American war, the economy was terrible and the King wanted to increase taxes on the people while keeping his lavish lifestyle.)

In such conditions, with a divided country, we could see two alternatives being proposed with nobody ready to compromise. I personally I would fight against any radical left wing, marxist-type ideology if chaos had to ensue.

Sometimes I feel like the US is morphing into some kind of latin american banana republic. It's pretty common place to have right vs left in those countries fight guerrilla wars. Don't think it can't happen here.

The GOP is talking about immigration reform. So are the Dems.

Both groups believe that courting the Hispanic vote will result in big numbers in each party's column.

Both groups are pandering for votes, and the 2012 election is barely over.

So, are they talking about the same kind of immigration reform? They couldn't be and both parties "win"!

We need to get back to our American Core.

The essence of America is individual rights and respect for others. We need to get back to meritocracy. We need to get back to work. We need to return to the big table ethos.

Is my life better or worse if my neighbor is gay? Does my life change if he can or can not marry.
Who cares about gays? Right now plenty of gay people can't find jobs.

I am perplexed about this almost obsessive anti gay expression of otherwise decent folk. Respecting individualism is an American core value.

The time has come for the Big Table
of Equals united by respect for individualism, respect for private property, no class warfare, no racial arson, no conspiracy bs.

We are all in this together. Think of the Obama Presidency as a disaster film. We can work together
and peacefully band together or we can sulk.

I am not sulking.

Z said...

Beak; here's the problem as I see it (and can put it down on this keyboard made for Billy Barty)...

It's not WE who make a big stink about gay marriage and other social things; it's THEM. They put words in our mouth, constantly tell America Republicans want to overturn abortion, hate gays, hate the poor, hate illegals...you know that!

That's all NONSENSE! Sure, some of us feel strongly that gay marriage isn't societally healthy, and we all know abortion is wrong, but I heard women in LA saying "Romney wants to overturn Roe vs Wade" (as does Roe, by the way, and she's fighting for that)...can someone please link to where Romney ever said that?

I heard a grown man say "Romney hates the poor" as he walked in to vote. Can someone show me where Romney's EVER shown that he hasn't worked for EVERYONE?

Good character doesn't matter a BIT to many Americans...we see that now.

They believed that lying Sack of ....

And, by the way...next time ANYBODY calls us RACIST? Remind them that 87% of black America voted for Obama. THAT's not RACIST? :-)

I just heard Obama won the electoral vote in Florida.

I'm also TOTALLY against the Electoral College now...it's not democratic and it has to GO.
One man-one vote has to be our rule again.

What do you all think?

We are all in a disaster movie with
Obama and his band of flunkies steering us to doom. All of us are in this together Black, White, Gay, Jew,Hindu and we need to be united.

This is how we lose. The media pick the most absurd statements and twists it into paranoia. Vote for Republicans and they will put you back into slavery, into a sweatshop, end abortion, cancel Will and Grace and make you listen
to Pat Boone. Reasonable people panic and vote for whatever the big media/ big academia gang want.

We end it by all sticking together
with big table Americanism. Tired
of an economy where you can't find work join us. Tired of having your bank account raped join us. Tired of paying tuition bills that are like lottery handouts so lefty hacks like Bill Ayers can get paid
for no work join us. Tired of government that wastes resources join us. Tired of cronyism and nepotism in government join us. Tired of class warfare in churches, schools and media join us.

We do have to look at the brighter side...I think young people, after another four years of no jobs and feeling like their work in school doesn't count, and seeing their parents jobless and broken, too, will start coming to the Republicans.

Next time, we need to set the stage; not the media, not the lefties. Romney spent more time correcting Obama's lies he put in Romney's mouth than actually getting to debate.
The Republicans need to take the gloves off, keep their integrity as much as possible, and fight as smartly and as dirty as the left did.

fight back.

There is a group of far left elitist that shape and spin media coverage. They are heavily invested in Obama. Basically, the name of the game is scare gays, blacks, latinos into voting for Democrats. White people are treated to a heavy diet of if you don't agree with Democrats you are a racist.

We fight this by sticking it to them when Obama fail and as certain
as the sun rises and sets Obama will fail. Big government and confiscatory taxation always fails.

We band together and demand jobs. We demand accountability, integrity
and transparency in government. We stay on message jobs, growth and fiscal sanity.

We can survive and win if we stick together and fight intelligently.

Where are the news headlines about layoffs immediately after the election of Obama.

Beak, I don't think you and I are on different pages. I think "intelligently" is the key and what we've both been saying.

The Right keeps letting things ride and don't hold enough feet to the fire; then we get Issa and Gowdy and Chaffin and King and they hold very important hearings and nothing gets known about them because the mainstream media ignores them.

I heard someone say "FOX has FAR more viewers than MSNBC bu MSNBC's favorite won"
I found that an interesting observation and we have to figure out WHY.

Yes, I know leftwingers want hand-outs but...SOMEONE should be able to get the truth through to them SOMEDAY. They can't ALL believe we can continue with debt like Obama's given us and still pay THEM, right?

Fox is one channel and I don't know about the long term future of talk radio. Fox reacts mostly to whatever the news cycle is.

There were massive layoffs right after Obama won. Where were the headlines and the human interest stories. Where were the stories about coal miners out of work as Obama worries about scoring brownie points with green extremists.

.....and it looks as though John Boehner is willing to cave.

Z said...

beak, FOX reacts to the news cycle like they all do, but that's their job; at least they cover stories most don't hear...

Lately, however, I've wondered why they don't cover stories like the massive layoffs...and where are the Americans 'en masse' talking about their layoffs?

I don't believe CNN EVER covered the horrible situation of Obama actually telling companies NOT to issue pink slips before the election! And then offering to pay their fines when employees say "you didn't give us the legal amount of time between the slip and the firing!"

Where are young journalists eager for TRUTH? they can't ALL be so indoctrinated as to be little communist sycophants of Obama.

Scotty;I've met Boehner; he's a total drunk (which is why he cries so easily )and a foul mouthed nasty man. What the HECK was he chosen for, anyway?
And where was HE about Bengazhi, the story above about pink slips, etc...he suddenly appeared AFTER the election....did you notice?

If a Republican had been president and we lost an ambassador like that, Nancy Pelosi would have been screaming from the rafters and the media'd have been right there with her.

Whatever happened to those UN Monitors who were supposed to 'oversee' our election?

I saw no evidence of their presence where I live, unless they were all disguised as chubby, badly dressed little granny types with frizzy hair, spectacles and horrible midwestern accents.

ALSO, whatever happened to all those flooded out, burned out New Yorkers and Jerseyites left without heat or fuel for their cars? How in the HELL did enough of THEM manage to vote to have any impact? 90% of those people are D'RATS, so I kinda hoped their inability to cast ballots might sway the election in Romney's favor.

NO REPORTS WHATSOEVER on VOTING in NY and NJ!!!

WHY NOT? There are FIFTEEN MILLION people in that area

It's all such a FARCE. I went to a lot of trouble to vote this year. I had to get out of a sick bed to do it.

I'll never bother to go through the process again.

It's a complete waste of time.

We have NO REAL CHOICE.

It's OBVIOUSLY FIXED.

HAS to BE. Not one single soul I've talked to all year wanted Obama to stay in the White House -- not ONE, yet he's still there.

The next time we have a terrorist attack, I hope they blow all of WASHINGTON, DC and environs off the face of the earth -- monuments and all -- while the president is in town, the Supreme Court is trying race and sex-based cases, and both houses of congress are in session.

If that happened, we MIGHT have a chance to recover, but I wouldn't bet on it.

FT, I think all your observations are excellent. Where WERE those "observers"?
Here in California, we had almost all black poll workers and I have lived here all my life in mostly white neighborhoods and never had a black poll worker EVER. I found that just a tad odd and am not suggesting fraud via them, but there were SO many! Odd. Friendly, helpful, just lovely...but since WHEN???

Did you see all the fraud allegations and proven accounts in the links I posted above? NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT THEM...I guess it's just a lost cause.

unbelievable, isn't it.

The areas that were creamed in Sandy were not slums. Midland Beach and Breezy Point are actual GOP Enclaves. Many of the people that live in those areas own small businesses and are first responders. The only exception to this was Coney Island and the more affluent Jewish gated Sea Gate.

I don't wish ill on anyone other then the big media and academia clowns who are in the protect Dear Leader mode.

Economically I doubt we'll survive. In 3 years I'm moving to a family farm and live off a bartering and my (military pension). I'm taking my 3 college degrees and all my skills and work for something the gubmint can't tax and the takers can't waste

It turns out that Gary Johnson, running as a third party candidate, received tens of thousands of votes in the swing states!

In Florida alone, he got over 45,000 votes!
All together he received over a million votes.

He's claiming he also took votes away from Obama. Yeah right...........is he kidding?
Good grief!

JINGOIST said...

Thank you for this article Z! It says EVERYTHING, doesn't it?

Constitutional Insurgent said...

Johnson didn't tip the scales in Romney's favor in Florida. My vote for him in Virginia didn't alter the state going to Romney either.

A novel approach for the GOP might be to nominate a candidate who is a staunch proponent of individual liberty, rather than the regulatory power of the state.

Z said...

Const. Insurg...a really novel approach would have been everyone VOTING OBAMA OUT...but, no, you guys had to teach us a lesson...you did that in 2008, I figured your own medicine tasted so bad the last four years, you'd have awakened to understanding how bad Obama IS and that ANYBODY was better, but no...

And, truly, every vote tipped the scales.. congratulations.

Jingo...good one, isn't it. Nice to see you!

Constitutional Insurgent said...

"And, truly, every vote tipped the scales.. congratulations."

The math doesn't bear that assertion out, but if it makes you feel better to blame anyone but your party....flame away at Libertarians.

Z said...

thanks, I think I will.

Pris said...

CI, millions of conservatives didn't vote for Romney. The fact that some voted for Johnson, doesn't tell the whole story! Many just didn't vote.

When you discover perfection in a candidate, be sure to let us know. In my lifetime, and voting in all elections, I have yet to find anyone running who is perfect. Ronald Reagan came closest, but even he wasn't perfect, and for me, he was and still is my hero.

Z, you're so spot on!!

Jingo, Hi! It's so good to see you here. Please, don't be a stranger, check in here when you can. OK?

Constitutional Insurgent said...

Pris - I don't dispute that a certain number of Conservatives stayed home. But again, it speaks to a deficit in the GOP. They didn't run a Conservative candidate in Romney. Add to that, the GOP doesn't necessarily = Conservatism.

There is some serious soul searching to be done as a party, and if they refuse to engage in it, they seal they're own fate.

There is also no perfect candidate. One, generally speaking, either votes their conscience or compromises their principles when they cast a ballot. I vote for the best candidate.......as I did for Goodlatte, Allen and Johnson.

Z said...

CI, and what chance did you think Johnson had, any?

I just don't understand that thinking...and don't really want to.

Constitutional Insurgent said...

"CI, and what chance did you think Johnson had, any?"

Of winning....none. Of growing the LP...plenty.

I'm a Libertarian...I want the LP to grow, since the GOP has abdicated the torch of liberty and fiscal sanity.

You may not want to understand it, but if you had no ideological home in either major party that thrived on increased government regulation and taxation of nearly every facet of one's life....you just might.

Z said...

CI..how many times did most bloggers say we must get OBAMA OUT FIRST? And THEN get tough on the Reps?

But, no...libertarians just couldn't handle it...they had to see Obama stay IN...to COMPLETELY ruin America

Maybe that makes sense to you for precious sensibilities, but it doesn't to ME

Constitutional Insurgent said...

Libertarians didn't cost Romney the election; Republicans did.

I'm heading ever closer to C.I.s point of view.

I voted for G.W. twice look what compassionate conservatism got us.

I compromised, held my nose and voted for John McCain.....that one really worked well!

I really struggled with the thought of voting for Mitt Romney for quite a while. I compromised, held my nose and voted for Mitt Romney....that worked out well too.

I mentioned in another post. I'm finished with the GOP. Tell me how doing what they've told me to do has worked out!

I'm not compromising and voting for another RINO ever again. I'm tired of feeling that I have to shower after I vote.

Z said...

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, let me just say one more:

We should have got Romney IN and then applied the heat; via the tea parties, etc...we could have worked...

Now we have nothing.

Pris said...

CI, I'm no less conservative than you. That's why I joined the tea party.

However, I'm also a realist and can discern between destruction and a chance we may turn things around or at least to keep survival in play.

I refuse to be apathetic, and lick my wounds to satisfy my ego. That will get us nowhere.

As it is now, I see our country poised to become a place where we all will be at the mercy of divisiveness and control by those who will bring us down in a way we never would have imagined!

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Libertarians didn't cost Romney the election; Republicans did.

Actually, Romney did that by himself.

Republicans for the most part stayed home.

Constitutional Insurgent said...

Pris - I'm baffled not challenging your Conservative credentials. I think our positions differ in two crucial aspects.

The first is culpability. I hold the GOP just as accountable as the Democrats for the current situation. There simply isn't as much intellectual real estate between the two parties for me as there apparently is for you.

The second is is the ability to recover. The GOP hasn't seemed to show an interest post-election....in addressing the concerns which apparently led many Republicans to stay home rather than vote for Romney. Changing the GOP from within hasn't worked to this point....and I don't see a change in that. A vote for Romney was a vote for the status quo.

Z said...

CI, I agree with a lot of what you said; do I HAVE to say again that getting Obama out would have at least slowed the decay DOWN and maybe given the rightwing Congress/senate a shot in the arm that we DO WANT CONSERVATISM BACK IN THIS COUNTRY?
It worked under Reagan. We expect a lot from our politicians and we don't support them. Maybe they're waiting for some support.

You'll never convince me Ryan is a 'no difference between us and them' hack...or Eric Cantor, or Rubio or Martinez, etc et.

We have THIRTY governorships now...we need to start in the states; waking people up to what the left's going to bring us.

It's also hard with you being somewhat a cheer leader for Obama yet saying what you do here and at Silverfiddle's nearly every day...WHERE DO YOU STAND?

Constitutional Insurgent said...

Z - I invite you to provide a single instance where I was a 'cheerleader' for Obama. One example. I'll wait.
