Racism or Stupidity? ...

HERE is an article, by excellent black columnist Walter E. Williams. I thought it was good for a discussion:

A black or white person, now dead, who lived during the civil rights struggles of the 1930s, '40s or '50s, might very well be appalled and disgusted by black behavior accepted today. Yesteryear, it was the Klan or White Citizens Council who showed up at polling places to intimidate black voters. During the 2008 elections, it was the New Black Panthers who showed up at a Philadelphia polling place to intimidate white voters and tell them, "You are about to be ruled by the black man, cracker." What's worse is the U.S. Department of Justice has decided to not to prosecute.

Black intimidation of voters, to my knowledge, is rare, but black intimidation of Asians is not. Recent reports out of Philadelphia and San Francisco tell of black students beating up Asian students. The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, in the wake of serious black-on-Asian violence at South Philadelphia High School, charged the district with "deliberate indifference" to the harassment of Asian students and with "intentional disregard" for their welfare.

The violence is not restricted to Asian youngsters. Asian adults are included, such as the recent bludgeoning to death of an 83-year-old Chinese man in San Francisco and the pushing of a 57-year-old Asian lady onto Muni subway tracks.

A white Charleston, S.C. teacher frequently complained of black students calling her: white b——, white m——-f——-, white c—- and white ho. Most people would judge that to be racism and demand it to end. Charleston school officials told the teacher this racially charged profanity was simply part of the students' culture, and if she couldn't handle it, she was in the wrong school. The teacher brought a harassment suit and the school district settled out of court for $200,000.

What about black youngsters who hit the books and study after school instead of hitting the streets? Sometimes they are ridiculed as being incog-negro or acting white and the ridicule is often accompanied with life-threatening physical violence.

Many blacks, particularly black males, have arrived at the devastating conclusion that academic excellence is a betrayal of their black identity.

The pathology seen among a large segment of the black population is not likely to change because it's not seen for what it is. It has little to do with slavery, poverty and racial discrimination. Let's look at it. Today's black illegitimacy rate is about 70 percent. When I was a youngster, during the 1940s, illegitimacy was around 15 percent. In the same period, about 80 percent of black children were born inside marriage. In fact, historian Herbert Gutman, in "Persistent Myths about the Afro-American Family" in the Journal of Interdisciplinary History (Autumn 1975), reports the percentage of black two-parent families, depending on the city, ranged 75 to 90 percent. Today, only 35 percent of black children are raised in two-parent households. The importance of these and other statistics showing greater stability and less pathology among blacks in earlier periods is that they put a lie to today's excuses. Namely, at a time when blacks were closer to slavery, faced far more discrimination, more poverty and had fewer opportunities, there was not the kind of chaos, violence, family breakdown and black racism that we see today. (Z: I think this is such an important point..)

Intellectuals and political hustlers who blame the plight of so many blacks on poverty, discrimination and the "legacy of slavery" are complicit in the socioeconomic and moral decay. But as Booker T. Washington suggested, "There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs." (Z: Guess who)

A PRICE on delaying death?

This is a HUGE topic........Can you "put a price on delaying death?" There is a revolutionary drug that may cost $93,000 to add FOUR MONTHS to the life of prostate cancer patients. This drug has very little side effects, by the way...patients are comfortable until the end, apparently. Here's an important snippet (in italics) from the article, though I hope you read the whole thing, it's not long and it's fascinating:

An estimated 200,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in 2010, according to the National Cancer Institute. While only a fraction of these cases will ever become eligible for treatment with Provenge, the potential burden on Medicare funds is sizable.

Currently, Medicare is not allowed to deny a treatment based on cost alone, but in the coming years, "it will be difficult to sustain coverage of these very costly procedures considering the Medicare program is facing a huge long-term deficit," David Howard, assistant professor in the department of Health Policy and Management at Emory's Rollins School of Public Health, says.

"Ten years, 20 years down the road, Congress is going to have to rewrite the law to allow cost to play into coverage decisions."

UHOH. Congress will decide? And, this drug may also be effective for BREAST CANCER.

CAN we put a price on life? Can we pay these huge prices for four months more life?

Vicious attacks at FOX? What do you think?

CAROL and MUSTANG are featuring this video about ISLAM....It's so important I applaud them for blogging it and had to blog it here, too.


The following video is one I found yesterday when a friend emailed me about the Muslim Family day at Six Flags......Nothing really troubling here, the muslim spokeswoman reminds us how muslims, too, died at the WTC on 9/11, and she explains why the grouped picked 9/12 for this Family Day (the only minor objection FOX had, by the way), and she proceeds to talk about how much charity muslims do here in America.......but look at her eyes, her demeanor.. "Salaam Aleichem" Keep the video above in mind.......



HERE is where MediaMatters thinks it shows "FOX'S LATEST VICIOUS ATTACK ON ISLAM TARGETS" (I wish they're produced the last "vicious attack on islam targets"...just for FAIRNESS, you know!) When you read the linked piece, you'll see that the counter interview by the muslim in my second video above hardly makes this "vicious" or "Fox's LATEST attack..." on ANYTHING. FOX was extremely respectful in its interview with Kaufman, the man against the Six Flags Day and, and featured the Muslim opinion the very next day. Both sides' information just doesn't count as news anymore, folks. :-) Truth is "vicious"?

This Six Flags Muslim Family Day started in 2000.....it doesn't seem to be too objectionable, except that I'd hate to see the UPROAR should Six Flags host PROTESTANT CHRISTIAN FAMILY DAY, huh? You think there just might be a review of THAT on CNN or MSNBC? :-)

This could save a LIFE...

HERE is a VERY important article on CPR which includes the fact that experts are no longer recommending the old "breathe in the mouth and then push on the the chest" procedure.
I am extremely private about details concerning my Mr. Z's passing last October 10th, but suffice it to say I thought he was alive for good reason and 911 talked me through the chest pumping..."no mouth anymore". He didn't make it but someone you love could....or even a stranger.
How many more of us might try to save a stranger in a dire situation if we knew 'just' pushing on his or her chest will suffice, that you do not have to breathe for that person?
Please read the article...............if it saves one life, it's worth the blog space.

HERE is the transcript of one fantastic speech by the amazing George Will, the author of several books on politics and baseball. I don't always find myself agreeing with him but I sure do agree with every word he said in his speech to the Cato Institute in May. I do hope you read the whole linked article.... here are some terrific quotes (in italics) from it:
It is a principle of liberal social legislation that a program for the poor is a poor program. I believe that today, as has been the case for 100 years, and as will be the case for the foreseeable future, the American political argument is an argument between two Princetonians: James Madison of the class of 1771, and Thomas Woodrow Wilson of the class of 1879. I firmly believe that the most important decision taken anywhere in the 20th century was the decision where to locate the Princeton graduate college. Woodrow Wilson, then Princeton's president, wanted it located on the campus, others wanted it located, where it in fact is, up on the golf course away from campus. When Wilson lost that, he had one of his characteristic tantrums, went into politics, and ruined the 20th century. I'm simplifying a bit. Here is an email I got this morning from my friend who sent me the article above. I had asked her last night via email "what do YOU think of it?" My friend is a black American woman and she responds:

I liked and agreed with the article. I disagree with the direction that the country is headed under the Obama administration, but I am not foolish enough to think that all this madness began with him. For the past 30 or so years the country has been headed downhill, while at the same time technology has exploded. I can't tell if the two are connected -- I'm not that smart. But, what I do see is that the lack of concern for the sovereignty of our nation did not start in 2008 or 07, or 06 ... there has been a steady decline for decades. Furthermore, I believe that at the bottom of it there are those that will benefit greatly from the dismantling of America and you can rest assured, it won't be the American people. It is a sad state of affairs that the American people find themselves and, as long as "they" can keep us at each other's throats ... we won't know what hit us. It is still my firm and abiding belief that the ONLY solution for the American people is for us to stop and look at our neighbor with fresh eyes, not with the eyes that the media/Senate/Congress, etc. would like us to ... I think we will see that we are all struggling and that we all want a good life for our families. I think that the sharing of ideas will set this country ablaze with renewed energy for saving what is ours, AMERICA. Someone needs recognize that it is unfair that our children aren't allowed to learn about ALL ideologies, both conservative and liberal alike. It is so insane to me that liberals believe that their ideas are the ONLY ideas that count. This is crazy. Anyway ... I could go on and on ...but I won't bore you further.

Oprah and you Southern RACISTS!!?

Whether one watches Oprah or not (and millions do) she's very effective and she said something Tuesday that really needs to be heard.

Dr. Henry Louis Gates was on her show discussing people who he found through DNA testing are related, like Eva Longoria/Yo Yo Ma, and Mike Nichols/Meryl Streep. Gates was apparently advertising his FACES OF AMERICA special for PBS, which was aired in February, so this Oprah show I happened upon must be a summer rerun. While talking about DNA, etc., Gates started talking about how it's a scientific fact that "If there was a Garden of Eden, it was in East Africa...scientific FACT!"

Oprah looked into the camera and said "...which, of course, lots of Southerners won't be too happy to know!" with such a cute little smile on her face. That's for all you RACIST Southerners who'd be SO upset to find that your earliest ancestors came from (gasp!) AFRICA. Aren't you? :-)

Speaking of TV shows, as you know, Obama will be the first president to visit THE VIEW on Thursday. Should the tax payers foot that bill for his travel, etc., or should the DNC? What do you think? I sure wish he'd given those thousands of Boy Scouts celebrating their Jamboree a visit instead of a video, don't you?

First-hand information from HAITI

THIS article reminded me of something a friend said to me a few weeks ago, something I'd wanted to blog on because it's just more information we're not hearing.

This friend's 26 yr old grandson (I'll call him John) went to Africa with the Peace Corps...he was so disillusioned with the way nothing was really getting done in Kenya, where he was, that, after almost 2 years, he left and went to work for a French relief company with which he is working in Haiti right now.

John was visiting his grandparents last month and told him that the biggest problem in Haiti is that the money that's been sent there is not getting to the people nearly as quickly and effectively as it could. In fact, he says it's not reaching them at ALL. He said that he personally is held back by Aristide's grandson, with whom he's always bickering because he blocks all progress the French relief group is trying to accomplish in every way he can. The Haitian government is doing nothing but create roadblocks to progress, the United Nations is doing nothing but throw up walls instead of making things easier, too, and none of the relief workers can quite figure it out but it is doing nothing for their morale or the morale of the Haitian people. His father is going to see him there in a few weeks and I'm hoping he makes an attempt at getting the story to America.

The article about the Haitian orphans, linked above, says that "Yankoski urges those concerned about the (orphaned) children to be patient, and suggests they are far better off at Holy Family — with nutritious meals, schooling and counseling — than if they'd stayed in Haiti." John can vouch for that.

LUCKY HAYWARD "pays a PRICE!?"

HERE is the article. From it : "Hayward, who paid the price for a series of gaffes, including the comment "I'd like my life back," will receive a year's salary of 1.045 million pounds ($1.6 million) as part of his severance package. He will also be entitled to draw an annual pension of 600,000 pounds from a pension pot valued at around 11 million pounds and retains his rights to shares under a long-term performance program which could eventually be worth several million pounds if BP's share price recovers."
Poor Tony. HE paid the price? :-) He's banished from the huge problems in America, he gets to leave all that behind, and will be handsomely paid for the rest of his life. "Hayward said it was right that BP embark on its next phase under new leadership...." DUH!
Imagine the guy who's taking over? There isn't enough money in the WORLD to get ME to........although, wait a minute..................if you do a REALLY lousy job and have to go.........hmmm. Where do we SIGN UP?

Gilbert and Sully-Man?

Remember the TV show ROSEANNE and the younger daughter character called Darlene? Here's a tidbit about what she's been up to (keep reading, I don't give a darn, either, but you will by the end of this).....
From Wikipedia: In her teens, Sara Gilbert became a vegetarian. Today, she supports numerous organizations such as PETA, Meals on Wheels, Freedom of Speech, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the AIDS Project Los Angeles. She stated on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in November 2008 that she has now adopted a vegan lifestyle.

She has been in a relationship with Allison Adler since 2002. They have a son, Levi Hank, born in October 2004 and a daughter, Sawyer, born on August 2, 2007. Adler is the birth mother of Levi and Gilbert is the birth mother of Sawyer.

Isn't all of that just precious? Sara is now producing and will be the main host(ess) of a show aiming to 'dethrone' The View, as the linked article puts it. She and "the co-hosts -- moms with children ranging in age from infant to adult -- will swap stories, challenge each other on issues and engage the studio audience and viewers at home about events in the headlines and their own homes through the lens of motherhood," CBS said in a news release Wednesday. "

I dare say it'll be through a whole other 'lens', too, having read her bio. Maybe they'll cover the benefits of childhood veganism and celebrate how "Mommy will have the experience of having one child THIS time and the OTHER Mommy will have the experience NEXT time!" or "You can say the F word, little Betsy, that's FREEDOM OF SPEECH!" Perhaps they'll discuss the VITAL importance of a strong father in a child's life, actually not sullying males for a change (just threw that in for comic relief through sarcasm! Wishful thinking, I guess). Or do you think they really might have a conservative celebrity mother/host with traditional values on to represent that side of America, at least 50% of our moms today? And, if they do, will they include another usually embarrassing woman like The View's Elisabeth Hasselbeck as their token conservative?

This is yet another reason the Hollywood types who are conservative need to step up to the bat, NOW (not when they 'think they're ready', as I've been told), and produce shows American women and America itself could actually benefit from.

Yes, yes, they're 'entitled'.............but SO ARE WE.

CNN's "WHO IS SHIRLEY SHERROD?"

I was channel surfing tonight when I came upon CNN's special "WHO IS SHIRLEY SHERROD?"
I didn't get to see all of it, but did see the part about how her Dad, the father of five girls of whom she was the eldest, was allegedly gunned down by a white farmer during a dispute. They told how she was called into the principal's office and informed that her father'd been killed and a sister of hers was interviewed, in tears, about how terrible the family felt. I can only imagine how awful that would be.
Ms Sherrod then went on to relate how the jury hearing the murder case was all white and acquitted the alleged killer. She was asked by CNN's Don Lemon (who I really rather like sometimes) "Did it make you hate white people?" The show went on to say how her sisters integrated a white high school and how a cross was then burned in the front yard of her home. Sherrod apparently went on to a career of organizing black farmers to 'take on the white establishment.'
I post this because I don't really know what to think of off this Special on CNN. One thing I found odd is that Sherrod, in the interviews we all saw, admits that it's the White House who finally said "pull over NOW and resign your job." But, I saw on the news today that the Obama said, on Thursday, that "the USDA 'jumped the gun' in letting Sherrod go." How's that? Sherrod clearly said the White House did it.
Even THIS article from AP, as unbelievably biased as it is, admits that the White House had her let go.

What do you think of CNN doing a whole special telling us that, essentially, Sherrod seems to have been a racist for good reasons? My feeling is that the whole special was a little over the top....just plain ODD. It's such partisanship, such bias. Don't you think so? I even wonder if CNN was asked to do it. What do you think?

Obama's girls babysitting? Or, maybe not?

From THIS article : WASHINGTON (AFP) – "President Barack Obama's daughters might be growing up in the White House, but that does not mean they have to miss out on a rite of passage for American girls -- a babysitting job.

Obama, who has the headache of stewarding the slowly mending US economy, said in a television interview that he was also teaching his daughters Malia, 12, and Sasha, nine, about savings, interest and money management. (Z: ah, that media love affair)

"What I'm doing now with Malia and Sascha is they're getting an allowance," Obama told ABC's "Good Morning America. They're starting to get old enough where they may be able earn some money babysitting. They've got their own savings accounts."

Any First Daughter baby-sitting service would be highly sought after, as presumably as well as the prestige, parents could expect a full retinue of Secret Service protection for their little ones.

Obama, publicizing consumer protection provisions in the sweeping financial reforms he signed into law this week, said that he and his wife Michelle were not far removed from financial pressures facing Americans."

Ahhh...It's nice that Obama said he and his wife were not far removed from financial pressures facing Americans, isn't it!? :-) I posted this because I thought the implication that his daughters would really be BABYSITTING was...well, frankly.........silly. You think that really might happen? Or was it a great way to show how down to earth he REALLY is? :-) I sure HOPE they don't use the Secret Service we pay for to squire the kids to babysitting, don't you?

I don't mind going to the grocery store unless it's what I call 'a big shopping'....you know, all the normal stuff plus all those really heavy things you hate to carry home but finally have to? Mr. Z did about 70% of the grocery shopping mostly because he worked here at home and liked to get out as much as he could. Sometimes, we shopped together and he always did the heavy lifting. And, I DO buy heavy things like all of us do; large bottles of cranberry juice, heavy milk cartons, canned stuff, a couple of bottles of wine, cleaning supplies, large water containers, etc. So, shopping/lifting is not my favorite thing and I procrastinate so badly that I really need a lot of stuff when I go. (and yes, Mr. Z spoiled me, I know that)

Today at the checkout, when the girl was filling my bags, she asked as they always do "Can I help you out to the car?" And, as I always do, I joked "NO, but I wish you could help me from my car to my HOUSE when I get there." There are usually a LOT of bags and I sometimes have to park a little down the street, and then there are a few steps up to my front door, so it's often not an easy endeavor. And yes, this is not a hardship for most people, but I'm admittedly a bit lazy and really can't carry very heavy things. Today, something happened I had to share.

When I got home from the store, trunk full of bags, there was a parking spot smack dab in front of my front door but the spot was just a little too tight to pull into. I saw there was a fellow sitting in the driver's seat of the pickup truck whose moving would allow me enough room, so I pulled up next to him and smiled and, taking a big chance considering the reaction I might get, I gestured that his moving back a few feet would help me park there..... He pointed his thumb to the back of his truck as if "move back?" I nodded my head and he moved his truck back. He parked again and I went to his open window and said "Thanks so much....I have a lot of groceries and being able to park this close thanks to you really helped." I opened my trunk and took two bags up to my front door, left them there, unlocked and opened my front door, and walked back down and across the sidewalk to my car to start the unloading and the young man yelled out his window "Could you use my help?"

A young guy, about 23 yrs old, big and husky, Hispanic (I think) and he wants to help me? I said "I couldn't impose, but thanks so much for asking!" He said "No problem!" and, as I stood at at the back of my car thinking what an incredibly nice kid he must be, he actually got out of his truck, picked up a bunch of bags from my trunk and, instead of putting the bags next to the ones I'd left at the front door, he went right INTO the house! WHAT? I thought "I don't even KNOW this kid and he's helping me..... and he's IN my house!" I have to admit he was inside a few more minutes than I felt comfortable with but I forced myself to stand there, not run in and check. He came out, big smile, and took more bags, and then we both brought bags in.

Before he went outside to get the last few bags, I said "You must have awfully nice parents" and he said "They are!" He put the rest of the bags where he'd put the first batch, on the dining room table, and I walked him to the door, noticing that he'd closed my trunk for me, too!

Isn't it kind of sad this nice gesture should be so unusual that I'd feel I had to blog it? Wouldn't you think this should be 'normal'? Maybe it once was, but it's not anymore, not in a big city like LA, anyway. It made me feel so good that I had to share it. I had told him he gave me back my faith in people and he laughed!

We get so mired down with bad news and 'learning' not to trust, don't we? I hope this young man really heard how grateful I was. Do you have a 'kindness of strangers' story? Wasn't this a nice one?

"Not the whiteman's b**** "

From my commenter, Major, we learn that, in Madison, Wisconsin, a "legislative candidate from Wisconsin can't use a profane, racially charged phrase to describe herself on the ballot, an election oversight board decided Wednesday. Ieshuh Griffin, an independent running for a downtown Milwaukee seat in the state Assembly, wants to use the phrase, "NOT the 'whiteman's b----.'"" HERE is the link to the full article from which I pulled the italicized quotes below:

Griffin, who is black, argued her case to the five white, retired judges on the board that regulates elections. She said the phrase was protected free speech.

"It's a freedom of expression," she said. "It's not racial. It's not a slur."

Board member Thomas Cane, a retired state appeals court judge, said he didn't find the wording to be "particularly offensive."

Fellow board member Thomas Barland, who spent 33 years as a circuit court judge in Eau Claire, agreed.

"She says a lot in five words," he said. "It wasn't pornographic, it wasn't obscene and I didn't interpret it as racial." Who wouldn't find "whiteman's bitch" racial?

Roxanne Dunlap, a white woman from Sussex, felt compelled to speak up in the middle of the meeting, saying she was offended by the statement. She said if a white candidate wanted to have the statement "not the black man's b----" put on the ballot, it would be soundly rejected.

YATHINK? :-) The vote was 3 to 1 in her favor but one judge wasn't there and she needed 4 to succeed. Is this REALLY how bad things have become in decency and civility in America? Apparently so. She's an "Independent", by the way.

"Jobless Payments"?

Today's big news headline is SENATE APPROVES JOBLESS PAYMENTS TO MILLIONS

I was thinking that it would be so much better if we called it something else.... "Jobless payments" seems to me to give the wrong message, don't you think? As most of you who read the news in depth know, the Republicans have been maligned wrongly by the Left for having stalled on this bill. Obama's exact words from the linked article are:

"Americans who are working day and night to get back on their feet and support their families in these tough economic times deserve more than obstruction and partisan game-playing," Obama said in a statement Wednesday night, criticizing the "roadblocks by a partisan minority"

That's loathsome, of course, and dishonesty built around influencing the November elections, because even the AP reporter admitted that..."In fact, the measure could have been passed months ago had Democrats not insisted on coupling it with a host of other, more controversial legislation, such as tax increases on hedge fund managers and on some small businesses that were used to pay to renew a popular package of tax breaks for individuals and businesses."

Yes, that paragraph is quite a ways down in the article, but it was mentioned and, as a critic of the media, I need to point out honesty in the rare instances they are honest. I'd say "Give credit where credit is due" but credit's a bit hard to get these days let alone give :-!

"Jobless Payments"...as if they're getting paid FOR being jobless. Please pray for those who can't find jobs.........That is one very difficult predicament.

No PRAYER in school?

After being interviewed by the school administration, the prospective teacher said: 'Let me see if I've got this right.
'You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits, censor their T-shirt messages, and instill in them a love for learning.
'You want me to check their backpacks for weapons, wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self esteem and personal pride.
'You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, and how to register to vote, balance a checkbook, and apply for a job.
'You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial behavior, and make sure that they all pass the final exams.
'You also want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of their handicaps, and communicate regularly with their parents in English, Spanish or any other language, by letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card.
'You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a bulletin board, a few books, a big smile, and a starting salary that qualifies me for food stamps.
'You want me to do all this and then you tell me. . . I CAN'T PRAY?

Obviously, that's meant to be humorous, to show a teacher's exasperation with the difficult job teaching is today and how it strikes a person odd that prayer's left out of schools when it's never been needed more........do you believe public schools would be better off for a moment of personal prayer (if a teacher could get kids all quiet enough for the same three minutes)? I'm not really one way or the other on this subject myself...it just seems odd that our schools have gone steadily downhill since we ruled prayer out. I found THIS INFORMATION which has some stats since 1963's removal of prayer in school. There are some sound pros/cons there to ponder.

I received the 'teacher's prayer' from a friend and wanted it on my blog.......just wanted to make sure you knew I didn't write that part. ( I wish I had)

Update on the Racist and the Farmer story:

UPDATE on the racist and the farmer story: CNN just had the farmer from the NAACP situation on (you'll see it on FOX tonight, I'm sure) and he says he "never met a nicer person" than Shirley Sherrod, the woman who said how angry she'd been at having to help a white man. Wolf Blitzer is saying it's a terrible 'blunder' by Obama not to have looked into this before demanding her resignation and his liberal journalists are agreeing that this was a terrible thing all the way around. I guess it's completely lost on ANY liberal that the NAACP audience laughed up a storm (he was white, she couldn't bring herself to help him) before she talked about finally having helped the farmer. Herein might lie the biggest problem with our media: Maybe they honestly DON'T have any integrity when they're more intent on their agenda? YATHINK!? :-) Are they really missing all the terrible things she said?
I'm not so sure Shirley Sherrod is what people are painting her to be, but she made ME feel uncomfortable as I listened to her explaining her thought processes when she was first confronted with having to help a white man.
And I shudder to think what would have happened to her had she been white talking about having to help a black man. (No, I don't really have to think about that..we know)

"CALL THEM RACISTS" the Leftwing of "journalism" suggests.........Please read the link...HERE is more information, written by Andrew Breitbart..... Apparently, there are more quotes between liberal journalists in emails which have been discovered (dare we hope that some liberal journalists, too, are sick of the bias and actually have ethics enough to have divulged these emails?) and which are forthcoming and I'll try to post them as I hear them. Could it be that people like Breitbart are actually getting the truth about the mainstream media's bias OUT? Or is it that the bias is so obvious now that it's difficult to hide? Or are the liberal journalists slipping in covering for themselves because it's been so easy so far?

The Media's covering the Tea Parties!

CNN's Larry King had a discussion regarding the Tea Party and accusations of RACISM last night. He had two people who believe there is racism and two people who do not. I don't usually watch King anymore but it caught my attention and I'm glad I didn't change the channel because it did provide a laugh....here's what happened (I paraphrase but it's as close as it gets):
Dana Loesch, co-founder of the St. Louis tea party and favorite talk show host of our good buddy and blogger Beamish, was asked by King if she thought the media was biased against the Tea Party. Obviously, she laughed and said every indication was that it is and reminded him that they've barely covered its true size and scope.
Here's where it got hilarious: King's response to her was "But, how can you say the media doesn't cover the Tea Party? They're GIVING IT PLENTY OF COVERAGE NOW!"
(now that it's been accused of racism!?...........you have to watch this stuff; it used to bug me but now it's comic relief. And a little pathetic.)

NAACP RACISM revealed by BREITBART..and an update

PLEASE see the video at Mustang's blog...Andrew Breitbart exposed this story and we all need to support him and his blog(s). HERE is his other one (By the way, read Wikipedia on him, it's so biased you should read it when you're in a bad mood, it'll make you laugh out loud. I know him a little and know a lot about him and I think he's one of the nicest guys around, but they don't! Well, he is a Conservative, after all, who left liberal ranks, so he's a traitor).
Andrew is up against a HUGE media conglomerate which won't present to the country the truth he's finding (matter of fact, they're still turning away Gigi Gaston's documentary WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED, about the 2008 TX primary where Obama people were telling little old ladies outside polls "If you're not voting for Obama, GO HOME"(and worse).) You'd think the American media would want to tell all of America about that, WOULDN'T you?
If the NAACP was a group made of mostly conservative white people and ANYBODY spoke like the woman speaks in the video at Mustang's, do you think the media would ignore it?! (I know, stop laughing!!)

See the NAACP video and see that laughed-over and applauded, blatant, hateful racism and learn some truth. It's good for all of us. Poor America.
UPDATE: The woman's resignation for having been so racist has been accepted as of this evening.

A Principal's Speech............what do you think?

By Dennis Prager: The speech every American high-school principal should give. (If every high-school principal gave this speech at the beginning of the next school year, America would be a better place.)
To the students and faculty of our high school:

I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no greater calling than to teach young people.

I would like to apprise you of some important changes coming to our school. I am making these changes because I am convinced that most of the ideas that have dominated public education in America have worked against you, against your teachers, and against our country.

First, this school will no longer honor race or ethnicity. I could not care less if your racial makeup is black, brown, red, yellow, or white. I could not care less if your origins are African, Latin American, Asian, or European, or if your ancestors arrived here on the Mayflower or on slave ships.

The only identity I care about, the only one this school will recognize, is your individual identity — your character, your scholarship, your humanity. And the only national identity this school will care about is American. This is an American public school, and American public schools were created to make better Americans.

If you wish to affirm an ethnic, racial, or religious identity through school, you will have to go elsewhere. We will end all ethnicity-, race-, and non-American-nationality-based celebrations. They undermine the motto of America, one of its three central values — e pluribus unum, “from many, one.” And this school will be guided by America’s values.

That includes all after-school clubs. I will not authorize clubs that divide students based on any identities. This includes race, language, religion, sexual orientation, or whatever else may become in vogue in a society divided by political correctness.

Your clubs will be based on interests and passions, not blood, ethnic, racial, or other physically defined ties. Those clubs just cultivate narcissism — an unhealthy preoccupation with the self — while the purpose of education is to get you to think beyond yourself. So we will have clubs that transport you to the wonders and glories of art, music, astronomy, languages you do not already speak, carpentry, and more. If the only extracurricular activities you can imagine being interested in are those based on ethnic or racial or sexual identity, that means that little outside of yourself really interests you.

Second, I am uninterested in whether English is your native language. My only interest in terms of language is that you leave this school speaking and writing English as fluently as possible. The English language has united America’s citizens for more than 200 years, and it will unite us at this school. It is one of the indispensible reasons this country of immigrants has always come to be one country. And if you leave this school without excellent English-language skills, I will have been remiss in my duty to ensure that you are prepared to compete successfully in the American job market. We will learn other languages here — it is deplorable that most Americans only speak English — but if you want classes taught in your native language rather than in English, this is not your school.

Third, because I regard learning as a sacred endeavor, everything in this school will reflect learning’s elevated status. This means, among other things, that you and your teachers will dress accordingly. Many people in our society dress more formally for a meal at a nice restaurant than they do for church or school. These people have their priorities backwards. Therefore, there will be a formal dress code at this school.

Fourth, no obscene language will be tolerated anywhere on this school’s property — whether in class, in the hallways, or at athletic events. If you can’t speak without using the F-word, you can’t speak. By obscene language I mean the words banned by the Federal Communications Commission plus epithets such as the N-word, even when used by one black student to address another, or “bitch,” even when addressed by a girl to a girlfriend. It is my intent that by the time you leave this school, you will be among the few of your age to distinguish instinctively between the elevated and the degraded, the holy and the obscene.

Fifth, we will end all self-esteem programs. In this school self-esteem will be attained in only one way (the way people attained it until the state of California decided otherwise a generation ago) — by earning it. One immediate consequence is that there will be one valedictorian, not eight.

Sixth, and last, I am reorienting the school toward academics and away from politics and propaganda. No more time will be devoted to scaring you about smoking and caffeine, or terrifying you about sexual harassment or global warming. No more semesters will be devoted to condom-wearing and teaching you to regard sexual relations as only or primarily a health issue. There will be no more attempts to convince you that you are a victim because you are not white, or not male, or not heterosexual, or not Christian. We will have failed if any one of you graduates from this school and does not consider him or herself inordinately lucky — to be alive and to be an American.

Now, please stand and join me in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of our country. As many of you do not know the words, your teachers will hand them out to you.

JOY ....Sunday Faith Blog

What do you do to feel JOY when you're feeling trampled by oil spills, lying politicians, seeing friends lose jobs, hearing about such high house foreclosure numbers, driving by stores that had to close, watching biased media, etc etc?

Circumstances aren't always good, but as we focus on God our focus gives us joy! And, even if we do have that 'inexpressible and glorious joy' from our faith, and even if you aren't a person of faith, it helps to turn the news off, go for a walk, do yoga, swim, listen to classical music....what do YOU do?

Muslim Holidays in NYC Schools?

(Reuters) - Muslim parents, students and civic groups are campaigning to add two of their religious holidays to the New York City public school calendar, pinning their hopes on state lawmakers after failing to win over Mayor Michael Bloomberg to the idea.

Putting Eid Ul-Fitr, a holiday marking the end of Ramadan, and Eid Ul-Adha, celebrating the end of the hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, on the list of official school holidays will help ease suspicion and reduce anti-Muslim sentiment nearly a decade after the September 11 attacks, they say.

One muslim father says "Putting the holidays on the calendar will send a positive message to the Muslim community that you are welcome here," he said.

Bloomberg, as stated above, doesn't like the idea, which surprised me, considering he's so behind the 'sensitivity' of building a mosque close to the World Trade Center disaster. But, then I read that he says "Everybody would like to be recognized but the truth of the matter is we need more school days, not less," he said. How long before they shorten the "Winter" or "Spring" Breaks (which were CHRISTMAS and EASTER breaks for a hundred years) to accomodate for so many holidays? A friend with two children went to her school principal asking why they couldn't get a week off BEFORE Christmas as they'd like to travel to their grandparents' for the holiday or have time at home preparing. He told her the teachers say the ski lift tickets and other ski accoutrements are cheaper the week after Christmas. SO, the "Winter Break" is after 'that holiday they can't mention' instead of leading up to it.

So, you think they ought to get two school days off in the NYC schools for two muslim holidays? Maybe there should be a law that says "If a majority, twenty-five percent of the children are of that faith...then......" ?

Prof. Ken Howell was fired........For telling the opinion of the Catholic Church!?

The University of Illinois has fired an adjunct professor who taught courses on Catholicism after a student accused the instructor of engaging in hate speech by saying he agrees with the church’s teaching that homosexual sex is immoral.
“Natural Moral Law says that Morality must be a response to REALITY,” he wrote in the e-mail. “In other words, sexual acts are only appropriate for people who are complementary, not the same.”

Teaching a student about the tenets of a religion is one thing,” the student wrote. “Declaring that homosexual acts violate the natural laws of man is another.”
Howell said he was teaching his students about the Catholic understanding of natural moral law.
My responsibility on teaching a class on Catholicism is to teach what the Catholic Church teaches,” Howell said in an interview with The News-Gazette in Champaign. “I have always made it very, very clear to my students they are never required to believe what I’m teaching and they’ll never be judged on that.

Mr. Z's ties..... who would have thought..?

I can't give up Mr. Z's clothing yet. It's hard enough trying to go through his desk and files and computer equipment and books and 10 inches of every business card he ever took (AND a very thick binder of all those business cards... Xeroxed!!?)..., etc. etc.
Clothing is something altogether different. And worse, more emotional. Those of you who've had the privilege of having the kind of marriage we had and the unbelievable heartache of losing that marriage can attest to what I'm saying about clothes. Some spouses tell me it was a few months before they could get rid of their spouse's clothing, some tell me it was about three years. Being a woman, you can well imagine how much I'd love to have his closet and drawer space. So, every few weeks, I think "This is the day..." and I open up his closet with a flourish and look at the suits and shirts and close the door. No, not today.
I tell you all of this because I just gave 22 ties to a friend who's going to UGANDA and it was a little tough. My friend's doing a missionary trip to Uganda for two weeks and had told me months ago that "they love ties there." I thought of the ties I have here and that maybe giving some to her would be a good thing to do. Mr. Z loved ties and had a lot of really nice ones. I gave some away this last Christmas to my brothers-in-law and nephews and was stunned and so touched by their delight in receiving them. I'll give them more this year, I think. BUT, I had 22 which were too thin or made of a fabric that's out of style, and some that he just didn't wear much and many which were, frankly, 'just okay'. I loaded them into a bag and called my friend who leaves this Friday on her trip to tell her I had the ties ready. I think.

When my friend called me back Sunday afternoon, she said she'd wondered if I'd decided it was too difficult to part with them yet and that she'd understood but was delighted to hear my message telling me I had them all ready for her. I got a twinge of panic "UHOH, maybe I'm NOT ready!" Let me backtrack here with something that's going to sound like yet another non sequitur but it isn't, you'll see:

Mr. Z was quite old-time German in his views about church; he would never go to a church with a Pastor in an Izod shirt, for instance. No Jimmy Buffet Hawaiian shirts could be on the pulpit and keep my man in the pew. He always wore a tie to church. I'm sure most of you disagree, that's JUST FINE (and YES, clothes don't make the message, and he knew that, but this was his how he felt...) But, I digress:

While on the phone with my friend, as she thanked me for the ties, I got that twinge of "Do I REALLY want to not have these ties here anymore?? REALLY? Can I really part with some of his things yet?"...and then she said "....it's funny that ties are so revered in Uganda, isn't it?..." I said "Yes, I find it kind of surprising, frankly!" And she said "....Z, it's the PASTORS who like the ties, they adore them; they won't preach without a suit and tie on."

I knew then, without a doubt, that it was the right thing for me to give up those ties, that Mr. Z was sending those ties. The comfort I have over this is amazing...I hope you find this a good story, too. It's nine months ago that I lost my husband and, I'll tell you, it doesn't get easier, it's impossible. Yet, you do it. Situations like this tie thing help.

You won't believe this

So, I had dinner with my friend Alley tonight at my favorite Mexican restaurant and I'm telling her about Gigi Gaston and the documentary she's made documenting people who'd seen terrible voter fraud by the Obama people in Texas in 2008 ...HERE is my piece on it.
Suddenly, a young woman turns toward us from the booth next to ours and she says "I know Gigi Gaston...I worked for her as a nanny for a short while.." I can't tell you much more of what she said, but suffice it to say I thought "WHAT ARE THE ODDS? I just published a video of hers a day or two ago!" Isn't that weird!?

Charlie Daniels and Mr. Obama ..Jammin'

After being in the music business for 52 years it's just about all I know; anything at all about--and in keeping with my admittedly narrow knowledge--I would like to draw an analogy concerning the Obama administration, viewing things from my vantage point.
Ok, let's say you pick out the finest symphony conductor in the world, add the greatest singer and seven or so of the finest classical musicians on the planet.
You get them together backstage and say, "Alright, there are twenty thousand fans out front, standing room only, expectations are off the charts, they are looking for the best show they've ever seen.
Now the curtain goes up in five minutes, the sound has been checked out, the lights set and everything is perfect, the stage is set for the greatest show the world has ever seen.
Now get there and knock 'em out guys! They're all with you; you're all superstars in their eyes. Go show 'em how it's done.
Oh, there's only been one change… Tonight you have to do your show playing songs you've never played and you'll have to improvise. There's no sheet music. You'll just have to jam."
Can you imagine the panic backstage?
You see, some of the very finest musicians on earth can't jam a lick. I remember a few years ago when I had a couple of young fiddle players come on stage with me and play "The South's Gonna Do It Again."
They had learned the parts I'd played on the record, arrangement, lead lines and all and played it perfectly note for note.
Everything was going swimmingly until I decided to leave the arrangement and jam for a while. When I turned to one of them and told them to take a solo the kid was as lost as a baby sheep in a hale storm.
They had no more idea about improvising than they did about how to build a spaceship.
"The South's Gonna Do It Again" is a simple twelve bar blues song that any musician from any garage band would be able to take a solo on, but even though these kids were extremely talented and played what they knew perfectly, when it came to jammin, they were totally lost. They had just never learned to do it.
To me the presidency is kind of like jammin'. You have to roll with the flow, improvise, adapt to the moment, pick up on what's going on and deal with it.
Our president has never had to jam, he's always had the sheet music in front of him and he's never had to play a note somebody else had not written for him.
One of the biggest mistakes President Obama made when he came in office was to surround himself with a bunch of players who had never jammed either. None of them have ever had any practical experience in the real world.
In essence, they are a bunch of paper tigers, they do an incredible job of spending other people's money and sneaking legislation through the back door, but out in the real world, where there are no scripts, down where the rubber meets the road there is probably not a person in the bunch who could change a flat tire, much less deal with the complex problems America faces.
The only thing Obama has done with any problem that has arisen is to throw money at it, and in truth, that's sadly all he knows how to do. When it comes to dealing with things that money alone won't fix like busted oil pipes at the bottom of the ocean or solving the problems on our southern borders he's lost and all those around him are lost.
The Obama cabinet is the most inept bunch imaginable. When people have only viewed the world from the top of an ivory tower they don't react very well when it's time to get their hands dirty.
Obama's people can't even accept real world concepts of the dangerous situations we're dealing with. Eric Holder wanting to try terrorists in civilian courts, in New York City of all places is nothing less than naïve arrogance.
Janet Napolitano's gross inexperience in dealing with security matters is going to end up costing this country dearly.
Putting an unqualified person who has never even been a judge on the bench of the highest court in the land, for nothing more than her political leanings is insanity.
Everywhere you look you see eggheads with nothing more than a college degree to qualify them for the sensitive jobs they hold.
I'm just wondering how long it will take for a majority of the people in this country to realize that the wheel that steers the direction of this nation is in the hands of people who have no idea how to get from point a to point b without a roadmap and that roadmap just doesn't exist. Every trip is different.
I see disaster looming on the not too distant horizon, financial disaster, increasing danger from terrorist attack, unabated violence in the streets and an arrogant and unmanageable illegal alien population.
It's coming folks and Obama and the band are still in the dressing room looking for the sheet music. They just can't jam.
