Sunday Faith Blog
I often wonder at Americans, approx 82% of whom claim CHRISTMAS, who apparently THINK "Merry Christmas!" but "Happy Holidays!" comes out of their mouths instead....what goes on in their heads in that second they decide not to say basically the only holiday's name which we're celebrating this month? Sure, you can say "Happy Hannukah!" when appropriate!... but, most Jews I know don't celebrate it unless they have small children...they tell me it's a kind of holiday that's special for children but a very minor holiday created at this time of the year mostly just for kids to get presents. That's what I've always heard; Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'd like to learn more about that.
This is my Fai
Thanks! Z (and yes, I know we all blog about this year to year, but who'd have ever thought we'd even want to, or have to?) Have a great Sunday. And, MERRY CHRISTMAS :-)

Meanwhile..........Nero's fiddling, huh? Yahoo thinks Lindsay's birthday is a big deal while our country is....... not doing well! Check out the Greek Column in that illustration...Greek column? Oh................never mind...it just seemed reminiscent of........something.

Laura Bush in England
The Bushes visited Buckingham Palace, today, in time for a revealing look at Mrs. Bush's afternoon attire. Yellow pleats adorned the well cut jacket whose arms were cut short to reveal the amazing biceps of this wonderfully popular First Lady. The color yellow was chosen in solidarity of the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Her clothes were said to steal the show from the G20 goings on. The pale blue suit in the photo above, worn at an event the very next day, was chosen to show the queen the ocean between our countries needs not be a division in any other way than physical. The Queen's hat, of course, indicated that 'everything's coming up roses' because this marvelous First Lady is on the scene.
Isn't it wonderful that Mrs. Bush warmly put an arm on the Queen's back in disregard to normal protocol? Loving her as we do, the American public is proud to see an American ignore the traditional British ways and reach out, meaningfully and affectionately, to the woman she'd met the day before. It was obvious that these two ladies liked each other a lot and it's hinted that relations with Downing Street will now improve and, possibly, Britain will now be sending 30,000 troops to Afghanistan as a gesture of appreciation for the new president and his glamorous wife. Of course, the troops will certainly not be wearing yellow.
Mr. Bush looked on as Mrs. Bush wowed the European media with her attractive and warm, winning ways. Wolf Blitzer of CNN very sweetly reminded the world how much Mr. Bush loves his wife and how proud he was of her at this gracious evening with European dignitaries.
Mr. Bush presented the Queen with a tape of his State of the Union Speech of this year and selections from Lerner and Loewe.
Z: Sound familiar? I didn't think so. You get the picture.

Bob's Big Boy....you'll never have a better hamburger
This is a treat especially for you LA people who know the Burbank Bob's...
THIS IS A HAMBURGER!!, to the rest of you across America. The sauce is SUBLIME.
Served with French fries and a very crispy salad with their special blue cheese dressing, your tongue will be in ecstasy! (While living in Europe, a friend sent me, for Christmas, one of the small Bob's statues you see in this video...it meant the world to me, especially over there!)
You might have a hamburger you think's this great (but you're wrong!!)...Tell me what's so good about it and where do you get it?

Terrorist chatter...a contest?? Ban Euphemisms!
JOIN THE CONTEST:
It's funny, last night I wrote and then deleted a (very) scathing rant about how FUNNY so many people seem to find the fact that America's never been in more trouble financially or physically. Just for a laugh or advertising money, you see TV panels teasing about Robert Gibbs' nasties, Mr. Obama's being 'punch drunk', smiling with Bob Beckel over nationalizing banks in THIS country, giggling about how our new administration's mandating that we call TERRORISM "Man Called Disasters". I don't find those things particularly funny, myself...but..
We have all sorts of euphemisms so those who hate us and want to bring us down don't feel badly but they escape me now...help me out. (This probably is a product of how, lately, the American left has adapted euphemisms, also, for BUMS "the homeless", illegals are "Undocumented workers"..might as well throw in a new one "Sanctuary deservers?"...an abortion is "the right of a woman to her body,", etc.
Anyway, I think it's wrong to joke about serious things when those serious things could wipe our families out in the next ten minutes. I also think it's scary to not properly identify an ENEMY because we then lose our resolve against that enemy..... but I decided we need levity and this could be fun. As an aside, families do this, too. When my (very) beloved grandfather suddenly passed away, I was called and told "Grandpa took a turn for the worse". They were afraid how I'd take it! But, I digress....
There is TERRORIST CHATTER reported in the news. (Ya, I know, decidedly NOT fun) Yes, I hadn't heard til Priscilla emailed me last night about it, and so I'm sorry to wreck YOUR day, too, if you hadn't heard, but this is what we're living with these days.
Could you come up with a Janet Napolitano euphemism for TERRORIST CHATTER? Let it rip! We don't want to make terrorists feel bad by calling it terrorist chatter.....got a new idea? "unfriendly mumblings?"

Bad Things Happen....don't they?
Z has finally figured out, once and for all, what separates, most completely and, certainly, succinctly, the Right from the Left...."BAD THINGS HAPPEN" (or **HIT HAPPENS) is a major GREAT DIVIDE. It's something I BELIEVE the two sides will pretty decisively and unanimously differ on. Here's what I think:
It seems to me that being responsible for yourself means that, sometimes, bad things happen...and we know that and accept it and deal with it. If you depend on laws to fix things, if you look to sue because you slipped in a little water on the grocery store floor as if somebody'd done it to you on purpose, if you believe bad things shouldn't ever happen and, if they do then you need retribution, is that real life? Is it realistic? Did you spill really hot coffee in your lap? Well, who asked you to drive while sipping it? But SUE for your clumsiness? If you're of the 'cradle to grave mentality', it seems to me you're less likely to 'suck it up' and just take your knocks and get over it.
There is a very sad story about a man in a very uncomfortable position. Do I think he needs some help? Maybe. What do you think of the story linked here? It's a tear jerker, but it got me to wondering if this country has come to the point that nobody can ever accept really bad things have happened and that we have to make better, more well thought out choices, or live by the laws of the majority, and that's that. (by the way, I have NO problem with the extension he's asking for, hoping this situation can be solved....I only cite it here to make the point that sometimes things go awry and we have to live with them...I certainly wish the Liberians in my link the very best. They love America, 'come on down'!!).
In Paris, one day, I was walking to the grocery store and saw a hole in the sidewalk......instead of huge barricades and whatever else Americans might have been pressured to install around it by insurance companies, etc., there was................yellow tape. Yes, only a thin yellow tape and a sign "TRAVAIL" (work) I thought "WOW....they're counting on me to STEP AROUND THE HOLE like a grown up. GO FIGURE." At Brasserie Lipp, a very popular and wonderful restaurant, I went to the ladies room the first time there and saw that the stairs were probably the steepest I've ever descended. When I got back to our table, I told Mr Z and our friends "If this staircase had been in the U.S., there would have been a desk at the bottom manned by two attornies signing people up just in case they fell."
Do you know any ridiculous law suits you felt were wrong? I wish I had a link but, years ago, a burglar broke into a house in Los Angeles and fell through the roof, hurting himself. He sued. He won. That's my 'favorite'. Another case I just remembered was a little boy in our neighborhood who decided to climb over the fence around a newly built pool next door to him which had no water in it yet so he could skate board on the wavy concrete. He broke his arm and sued. He won. WHAT?
It seems to me it's nuts to decide that if ONE PERSON dies in a skiing accident, for example, helmets must be forced on everyone. Or, if one child has a peanut allergy, that child shouldn't stay home because he has the problem, but all children need to refrain from bringing any peanut product to school because the school will be sued if anything happens. Sometimes, TERRIBLE things happen....DON'T THEY? CAN'T THEY? And, doesn't that NEED to be okay? Didn't it used to be that a sad thing happened and we licked our wounds, dusted ourselves off and went on living? Or not?
What do you think? I'm having a hard time here trying to really articulate something I've thought of a lot lately, this point about suing for everything, or forcing everyone to go along with changing rules because one person has a problem with something...........help me out here, would you?
IS it a Left/Right issue? IS it dangerous to a society? Can we revert to a citizenry more vigilant and obeying common sense like steering away from a hole in the street or being extra careful on the stairs? CAN we let people struggle to fix their problems without stepping in? SHOULD we PROTECT EVERYONE? IS this the kind of thinking behind what's been created in programs most of us feel will not work in fixing our economy today?
What DO you think?

'Nazi-style Totalitarian abyss' in AMERICA?
We have written pieces along this topic of faith and America and how important it has been to keeping us who we are, particularly this one you can click here and read on Socialism and Germany as a cautionary tale to us, and I thought this article below solidifies a lot of our thinking. It's worth taking a look. We might not all agree but it's worth consideration.Ex-Hitler youth's warning to America
'Every day brings this nation closer to Nazi-style totalitarian abyss'
Nov. 18 WorldNetDaily
WASHINGTON – Because it has abandoned moral absolutes and its historic Christian faith, the U.S. is moving closer to a Nazi-style totalitarianism, warns a former German member of the Hitler Youth in a new book.
"Every day brings this nation closer to a Nazi-style totalitarian abyss," writes Hilmar von Campe, now a U.S. citizen, and author of "Defeating the Totalitarian Lie: A Former Hitler Youth Warns America."
Von Campe has founded the national Institute for Truth and Freedom to fight for a return to constitutional government in the U.S. – a key, he believes, to keeping America free.
"I lived the Nazi nightmare, and, as the old saying goes, 'A man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with an argument,'" writes von Campe. "Everything I write is based on my personal experience in Nazi Germany. There is nothing theoretical about my description of what happens when a nation throws God out of government and society, and Christians become religious bystanders. I don't want to see a repetition. The role of God in human society is the decisive issue for this generation. My writing is part of my life of restitution for the crimes of a godless government, of the evil of which I was a part."
Von Campe grew up under the Nazis, served in the Hitler Youth and fought against the Red Army in the Yugoslavian theater as a tank gunner in the German army. He was captured at the end of the war and escaped five months later from a prisoner of war camp in Communist Yugoslavia.
"It took me a long time to understand and define the nature of National Socialism," says von Campe. "And, unfortunately, their philosophy continues to flourish under different labels remaining a menace to America and free human society."
He writes: "The most painful part of defining National Socialism was to recognize my own moral responsibility for the Nazi disaster and their crimes against humanity. It boiled down to accepting the truth that 'as I am, so is my nation,' and realizing that if every German was like me, it was no wonder that the nation became a cesspool of gangsters. This realization is as valid today for any person in any nation as it was then, and it is true for America and every American now."
Von Campe's message is that political freedom and democratic rules alone are not sufficient to govern humanity justly.
"Democratic procedures can be subverted and dishonest politicians are like sand in the gearbox, abundant, everywhere and destructive," he writes. "What I see in America today is people they're painting their cabins while the ship goes down. Today in America we are witnessing a repeat performance of the tragedy of 1933 when an entire nation let itself be led like a lamb to the Socialist slaughterhouse. This time, the end of freedom is inevitable unless America rises to her mission and destiny."
Von Campe says he sees spiritual parallels among Americans and his childhood Germany.
"The silence from our pulpits regarding the moral collapse of American society from within is not very different from the silence that echoed from the pulpits in Germany toward Nazi policies," he explains. "Our family lived through the Nazi years in Germany, an experience typical of millions of Europeans regardless of what side they were on. We paid a high price for the moral perversions of a German government, which excluded God and His Commandments from their policies. America must not continue following the same path to destruction, but instead heed the lessons of history and the warning I am giving."
Specifically, von Campe warns Americans their political leaders are on the wrong footing, "denying our cultural and traditional roots based on our unique Constitution and Christian orientation as a nation. Christians don't understand their mission."

What happened in the Sixtie?
Remember Jefferson Airplane? (If you don't, don't tell me!)
I was listening to an interview with Gracie Slick and Paul Kantner and he said something that has me thinking. It's something I've thought of before and it crystalized what the Sixties and all they entailed, with the music, clothes, dropping acid and smoking pot, did to America.
Paul Kantner was speaking about when The Doors opened for the Airplane on tour. I'm paraphrasing here, but you'll get the idea:
"One summer we were playing in Kansas and the college kids came in prom clothes...dresses and neckties....the next summer we came and they were dropping acid, having sex in the seats and wearing tie dye."
What happened? I liked the Jefferson Airplane and The Doors as much as the next person.....But, did groups like them do THAT much damage? Was it the musician lifestyle of drugs and free sex preaching to teens or was the music reflecting the behavior of teens? If kids changed in a YEAR, HOW DID IT HAPPEN? And WHY?
How'd we go from:
I said Hello Mary Lou
Goodbye heart,
Sweet Mary Lou
I'm so in love with you.....
I knew Mary Lou
We'd never part....
So Hello Mary Lou
Goodbye heart.....
to:
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all.
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall.
