My father is very much on my mind today.   Today, we're gathering to remember him twenty years after he passed away.  I believe he was one of the finest men who ever lived in the entire world.   I really do!

"One door closes and God opens another," is a phrase we hear from time to time, sometimes said a little differently, but you get my drift.

Have you ever had that happen, where something really awful happened (breakup of a relationship, losing a job, etc.) and you saw later that things worked out for the GOoD?

Would you care to share?  Or tell us "my friend had this happen ....."   We can deal with wondering if it's your friend or really you! :-)   Please share;  I think those stories are inspiring and could be uplifting for what so many Americans are going through today.

Romans 8:28 says "And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose."

 Z:  this amazing piece was sent to me by a Rabbi friend ... it's by an Orthodox Jewish woman who has the guts to tell her truth and the truths by which women, and ALL of us, would better prosper.  I ask that you read this and ponder what being a woman of pure and good sexuality and femininity really is.  This piece amazed me and I had to post it.........

Am I advocating headwear?  Certainly not.  Am I (and God?) advocating the goodness and decency it metaphorically represents? YOU CAN BET YOUR LIFE ON IT.

Matthew 6: 31-34

Each day has enough trouble of its own.
I know most of you know this verse.  I hope you're all blessed by it today in some relevant way that's special only to you.  Many of us are worried about so many things these days and action helps, but worrying never does, does it.

Have a worry-less Sunday!  Practice not worrying.....it's a good thing!  Make it your 'favorite day' every day.

This type of open faith will never grace the White House again.  We all know that.

Sunday Faith Post - HOPE HEALS

HOPE HEALS.   I believe I've introduced you before to Katherine and Jay, but they have a new, very short film, and I believe my blog is graced to present it here as my weekly Sunday Faith post.  You will be graced, too:

Katherine is an amazing young woman and her husband Jay is the producer of that film, the interior designer of their beautiful home, and the extraordinary chef who cooks for her now that she can swallow.
You will see in the short video that -

"All things work for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."  Romans 8: 28.

Give yourself a few minutes and watch..........and you'll see just what HOPE can do, and you'll get a sense of what Katherine and Jay want to do with what they have learned.  This has become their ministry...they have been 'called according to His purpose" in a most extraordinary and painful and confusing way.  And they're ready for it. 

I hope you've been blessed by watching and thinking and seeing how true HOPE can heal.

PS: Regarding Friday's post and my request for prayers for "L", I want to confirm that she came out of surgery well, the amputation was, very happily, below the elbow, BUT, she's got lots of pain and the drugs are miserable and she needs prayer for no complications.  I am glad that, at the time of surgery, she was just starting to feel the HOPE Katherine and Jay have....

Sunday Faith Blog ... Young Life

I've been reading some Christian Testimonies of men and women in their late twenties, early thirties who I have recently met.  It's been a privilege just to read them and maybe I'll see if I can print one or two here some day.

Their stories include growing up in really rancorous divorced homes, the loss of parents, the loss of siblings, confusion in college when faced with immorality and abuse of alcohol, both of which some of these people didn't shy away from even as they struggled with their Christian faith.  I could go on and on but suffice it to say it was only becoming very faithful Christians (through Young Life and other venues) that their lives improved, that they were able to avoid future immorality, that they were able to find jobs in healthy atmospheres, able to find spouses who have make them so happy ...but mostly, they have found, after really troubling formative years, REAL PEACE.      I cried as I read the difficult stories of these wonderful young people I'm telling you about...I had had no idea they'd had really difficult earlier years.  All I see today is the results of their faith, how much better their lives are.   Two of the testimonies I read had me wondering "Who could have written THIS one?" because they was so full of angst and horrible troubles and I know the sweet, lovely writers (once I was told who'd written each of them!) and those people are so fantastic, so good, so happily married, so Godly, I'd never ever have imagined they'd had such a difficult background!  And it was all turning to Jesus which changed these lives, having people come alongside them and helping them on their journey to God.

"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God."   Romans 5 1:2

People have scoured every nook and cranny of the globe in search of peace.  But every new road eventually leads to the dead end of dissatsifaction.  The only true and lasting peace comes from Jesus Christ. (from Wisdom for Women)  ........Just ask my young friends and everyone around them.

I wish stories and results like this for you, your children, your community........vote "YES!" to put God  into YOUR platform!

What a better world we would have.........(by the way, I had no intention of this becoming a YOUNG LIFE promotion, but I've always heard such good things about it and it kind of wrote itself into this post "for some reason"  Maybe that reason is your child??? Pray on that!)  I also feel compelled to add here that I asked a 32 year old teacher/social worker recently if she saw much improvement in the lives of really troubled kids through therapy.  She said she had, but that the secular therapy didn't last long, that the Christian therapy and coming to God was the therapy she'd seen last and last.

Well, have a great Sunday.  This post took on a life of its own and 'wrote itself'.  It must be to touch  particularly one of you reading this who has a troubled young family member or friend in the hopes that you act on that.  Or is it you?  Please pray about it.

I love the humor in the picture above and it got me thinking..........How much has PRAYER helped you? Do you remember a particular time you got an answer fast?  We don't have to know what it was, but if you could tell us if you feel you've been answered, we'd love to know that.   If you want to tell how, we'd be grateful.

"Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say:  Here am I..."  Isaiah 58:9

There are a lot of verses about prayer that say, basically, "ask me for anything and you will have it."   That's a tough one for everyone to understand so I didn't pick those to post here.  What we have to remember, I think, is that answers come in many ways.....we might not notice some, we might not like some, we may feel totally unheard.     But "here am I.." will always be true.  To answer as you hoped or not;  but He will always to be there by our side.

Pray today.......it's like chicken soup "it cain't hoyt!" :-)

BIG time Scientists all saying that God's existence can be proven through SCIENCE?  REALLY?
Yes, they sure are.........check THIS out.

That's all I'll say on the subject........the linked article is short and packs a punch.   It includes the fact that the scientists working on this are Nobel winners, Templeton Award Winners, Cambridge and Harvard top notch scientists..."The scientists “come pretty much out of the closet,” and affirm that it is impossible for the universe to be random and without purpose....."

The article also includes this:

 “It doesn’t mean you necessarily need proof, what it means is that you need evidence so that you can have some kind of independent extrinsic verification of God because, of course, you’re intuition is not going to push you over the line. This is about 35 percent of our population.”

Sometimes, that's me, I have to admit.....most of you've assured me that scientific 'proof' makes no difference in your faith and I admire you.   I like reading articles like this.......and I hope most of you will, too.

Wow....an Atheist had quite a change of heart on the borders of hell.............read about it HERE.   I guarantee you'll be fascinated and might even want to send it around.
Here are the first two paragraphs:

"In some near-death experiences, people report they were drawn toward “the light.” But in this horrifying near-death experience for an atheist art professor, he was drawn into the darkness of hell, which dramatically altered the course of his life.
“I was a double atheist,” says Howard Storm, who became a tenured art professor at Northern Kentucky University by age 27.  “I was a know-it-all college professor, and universities are some of the most closed-minded places there are,” he notes."

Z: Parents, when you think your kids have really lost their way, please remember what this new Christian said, at the age of 37 when this all happened:

His thoughts floated back again to himself as a nine-year-old in Sunday School, “I remembered myself singing “Jesus Loves Me,” and I could feel it inside me. As a child, I thought Jesus was really cool and he was my buddy and he would take care of me.”

When the atheist finally yelled "Jesus! Please save me!", he wrote.........

Immediately he recognized Jesus, the King of Kings, the Rescuer, the Deliverer. “His arms reached down and touched me and everything healed up and came back together,” he recalls. “He filled me with a love I never knew existed.”
Then he picked up Howard, like one football player picking up a fallen teammate on the field, put his arms around him, and Howard cried like a baby in His arms. “He carried me out of there and we headed to where God lives.”

The "double Atheist" now does missionary work in Beliz :-)   And he's written a book MY DESCENT INTO DEATH.

Shirley & Marcy

A mother was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn't want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.
So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn't notice her. She said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.

The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor girl he knew. She did this for the whole week.

As the two kids walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy 's little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally she said to Timmy, 'Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?'

Timmy nonchalantly replied, 'Yeah, I know who she is.'

The little girl said, 'Well, who is she?'

'That's just Shirley Goodnest, 'Timmy replied, 'and her daughter Marcy.'

'Shirley Goodnest? Who is she and why is she following us?'

'Well,' Timmy explained, 'every night my Mum makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, 'cuz she worries about me so much. And in the Psalm, it says, ' Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life', so I guess I'll just have to get used to it!'

That's something we should all get used to........May Shirley Goodnest and Marcy be with you today and always.  Is that cute, or what? (I love that picture)

The GATEWAY TO THE KINGDOM: Oswald Chambers, July 21.  From his Devotional "My Utmost for His Highest"

"Blessed are the poor in spirit"  Matthew 5:3

"Beware of placing our Lord as a Teacher first.  If Jesus is a Teacher only, then all He can do is tantalize me by erecting a standard I cannot attain.  What is the use of presenting me with an ideal I cannot possibly come near? I am happier without knowing it.  What is the good of telling me to be what I never can be - to be pure in heart, to do more than my duty, to be perfectly devoted to God?  I must know Jesus Christ as Saviour before His teaching has any meaning for me other than that of an ideal which leads to despair.  But when I am born again of the Spirit of God, I know that Jesus Christ did not come to teach only;  He came to make me what He teaches I should be.  The Redemption means that Jesus Christ can put into any man the disposition that ruled His own life, and all the standards God gives are based on that disposition.

The teaching of the Sermon on the Mount produces despair in the natural man - the very thing Jesus means it to do.  As long as we have a self-righteous, conceited notion that we can carry out our Lord's teaching, God will allow us to go on until we break our ignorance over some obstacle, then we are willing to come to Him as paupers and receive from Him.  "Blessed are the paupers in spirit," that is the first principle in the Kingdom of God.  The bedrock in Jesus Christ's kingdom is poverty, not possession; not decisions for Jesus Christ, but a sense of absolute futility - I cannot begin to do it.  Then Jesus says -- Blessed are you.  That is the entrance, and it does take us a long while to believe we are poor!  The knowledge of our own poverty brings us to the moral frontier where Jesus Christ works."

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time."  1 Peter 5:6.

This devotional really spoke to me yesterday and I wanted to share it with you.  It answers a lot of questions some of us have, don't you think?  Read it a couple of times, it makes so much sense.  Blessings and comfort to you this Sunday, and always.  Have a wonderful day.

A story to ponder about ...(but don't even read this unless you have time to read this AND watch the two music videos at the bottom...dedicated to Silverfiddle and Ticker!  FANTASTIC MUSIC!)

A king who did not believe in the goodness of God, had a slave who, in all circumstances would always say "my king, do not be discouraged, because everything God does is perfect. He makes no mistakes!"

One day they went hunting and along the way a wild animal attacked the king. His slave managed to kill the animal, but could not prevent his majesty from losing a finger.

Furious and without showing his gratitude for being saved, the nobleman asked "Is God good? If He was good, I would not have been attacked and lost my finger."

The slave replied:"My king, despite all these things, I can only tell you that God is good,
and he knows why these things happened. What God does is perfect. He is  never wrong!"

Outraged by the response, the king ordered the arrest of his slave.

Later, the King left for another hunt, this time alone. He was captured by savages who engaged in human sacrifices.

On the altar and ready to sacrifice the nobleman, the savages discovered that their victim did not have one of his fingers. According to them, only a whole person with all his/her parts intact could be offered to the gods. The King without a finger was deemed an abominable sacrifice for their gods. So they released the King.

Upon his return to the palace, the King authorized the release of his slave.He received the slave affectionately.

He asked his slave, "my dear, God was really good to me! I was almost killed by the wild men, but for lack of a single finger, I was let go! But I have a question: if God is so good, why did he allow me to put you in jail?"

The slave answered, "my King, if I had gone with you on this hunt, I would have been sacrificed instead because I have no missing finger. Remember everything God does is perfect. He is never wrong. He made you keep me in jail so I would not be with you on the hunt."

Often we complain about life, and negative things that happen to us, forgetting that nothing is random and that everything has a purpose.

Every morning, offer your day to God, don't be in a rush.

Ask God to inspire your thoughts, guide your actions, and ease your feelings. And do not be afraid. God is never wrong!

You know why this message is for you? I do not know, but God knows, because He never makes mistakes.......

The path of God and his word is perfect, without impurities. He is the way of all those who trust in Him, as He says in 2 Samuel 22: 31

Z:  We never know how things will turn out when we're going through adversity but, looking back, we often find we WERE taken care of, things DID work out.......in ways we may not even be aware of.  Even if we think they didn't. Cling to this when as we see our beloved country seemingly taken over by lying politicians, a failing economy, such low morality, deadly weather;   It helps.

Have a beautiful Sunday.  God is never wrong.   Hard to remember sometimes, I know, believe me. NOW FOR MUSIC!:

OKAY, I can't mention Mark O'Connor without posting this, dedicated to my fiddlin' buddy SILVERFIDDLE...(SF, does it get better than this!?)  starts out slow, but.....it gets great!

John Adams, who became the nation's second president once, wrote: "Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God...What a Utopia, what a Paradise would this region be."

I suppose Christians would still call themselves Christians as they picked and chose from the Bible for whatever pleased them and condemned "that mean old God who actually had the nerve to kill people in the Old Testament" ...completely ignoring that He IS God and they can't have a clue what He's up to... 

But what a better world.........where people didn't hurt others, where children looked up to parents who actually deserved their respect, where people gave from their hearts when someone was sick or otherwise needy, where conscience and true wisdom helped us make better, healthier choices in our lives.......funny, those things were the 'rule' not that many years ago, weren't they.   Something's happened to us only very recently on such a wide scale basis in our very progressive, intellectual hopes of dissing anything Christian or embracing Christianity without embracing, and even insulting, the ONLY (I mean only) way Christians are informed...the Bible.  ("prey, what other way?" as Adams might have asked).

Scripture teaches that government is ordained by God to punish evildoers and praise those who do right.  Government was not given absolute sovereignty over man.  It must function within its limits to be most effective."

We can't guess what God is up to today with all that's going on, but I am certain He will bring about something in His own time which shows His sovereignty and power and will bless us.  He will "close the circle of our felicities," in some way; of this I am certain.
