Z,
Harry is a done deal. He's toast. This is something that tells me that bipartisanship is a joke. Principles? Not really.
Actually, I'm not happy with any bipartisan effort on another stimulus bill.
I think he did Republicans a big favor politically. The first stimulus bill did nothing for employment, and neither will this one.
The only jobs the government can create are government jobs, which make government ever more bloated, and the tax payers have to pay for.
Targeted tax credits to stimulate jobs are meager at best. Transportation projects, unless they're through the planning stages, will be years in the offing.
Harry Reid is grasping at straws, and has now given the Republicans an out, which they are not responsible for. Unless I'm reading this wrong, thanks Harry for being consistently stupid.
Btw, what happened to the 500 billion still unspent from the first stimulus bill? Hmmmm?
Pris
They've put the R's in a tough spot. The media's SO in the bag they don't ask questions and, if they had the answers, they'd not tell America...
Pris, I agree that the R's shouldn't be a part of ANY stimulus type package but the media and the Dems (one and the same, of course) will portray them badly again.......
My point was the call of Obama and some of the Dems for BIPARTISANSHIP and then when they have it, Reid does THIS. I do NOT agree that R's should be part of the bipartisanship because it never will really BE bipartisanship with the leftwingers in charge.
I'm not sure the R's have always been open to bipartisanship, either, but this stimulus is KILLING our country and the healthcare bill is 1/6 of the economy...these aren't just a bill here or a bill there.. you'd THINK all Americans would want their voices heard!?
Law & Order, I hope Reid's toast...looks like he won't even win Sen of Nevada again!
What irritates me is that the Times, along with other news journals, skew the facts. Yes, there is a 9.7% unemployment rate because the government doesn't count the other 7% of persons who are unemployed and have given up trying to find a job. So the true unemployment rate is close to 17%.
Let's see if Democrats are slick enough to get reelected once Americans know the full truth.
I think that bill did need scrapped....the social security benefit to employers was as I understand it applied to employers who hired someone for 106,000 a year and the benefit to the employer was only 6k.
Harry just wants the R's on record as voting against a "jobs bill" at a time when the country has a 10% unemployment rate. No one will remember that there was a bi-partisan alternative ready and waiting, the only thing they'll record are the Republican "No" votes. And so the "myth" of the "No" Party can be perpetuated in November.
I wonder if anyone is really paying attention to what is happening here?
This "jobs" bill was originally $104 billion by one account but was not going to produce any jobs so they scaled it back to $35 billion!?
If a jobs bill isn't going to produce any significant jobs don't you think they could do the same amount of nothing for even less money?
Good grief, Z! Harry Reid is such a tool!
Bipartisanship ain't all it's cracked up to be, anyway. Especially with this bunch of radical lefties.
Throw the bums out!
Yes, it's about WHY REID did this...
and nobody IS paying attention, really, AND bipartisanship seems to only be a word bandied about to make whatever party NOT in power look bad...Obama's told America, in essence, that "If you don't like MY IDEAS, that's NOT bipartisan and you aren't helping the people".
I remember people saying Geo. Bush tried to extend his hand across the aisle and came back with no fingers.
The proper way to spell bipartisanship is with a t at the end, because that most accurately defines and illustrates the term.

FT...good one. Sad, isn't it?
I hope you're doing well.
