Back after a crazy busy week...
I usually make my own chicken wings. I know nothing spectacular but it's good when it's home made and I can improvize and try different things. And I love chicken wings. The French should have come up with that! :)
boneless ribs cooked in the crock pot and smothered with spicy bbq sauce, chips and salsa
Z, we're having a party (instead of going to one) and my better half has taken this over completely. I usually do the cooking, but organizing the food and drink is SO much fun for her that I've been relegated to "adult beverages."
Later today I'll get you a complete list.
Ebro, you cook the ribs in the crotch pot WITH the sauce, right?
You don't just add th sauce later do you?
I think Sunsett is eating Crow.
Eric
FB..you were missed! Have a great time and say hello to Mrs FB for me.
Elbro...have a great time
Jingo, please do come back and tell.
Eric, I take it Sunsett prefers the team you don't, right? :-)
(I removed my first comment because I reported we received "67" inches of snow! LOL)
I am a HUGE Bengals fan, stemming from the fact I loved the Bengals before the Colts ever thought about sneaking out of Baltimore in the dead of the night to move to Indy. That being said, I am going to have to go against the sentiment of the whole country and root for my home state Colts against the Saints. If ANY OTHER team were playing the Saints...
Food? nothing planned. Just watching the game. Have a GREAT weekend. Are you snowed in, Z? We were lucky here in East Central Indiana. We got around 6-7 inches of snow last night. Fortunately, our power didn't go off like some of my friends are reporting on Facebook. Stay safe and warm! (Wish I were in Miami!)
Hi, Sue..no, i'm RAINED IN...it's raining non stop...
Will be going out most of the day, however...the rain's supposed to let up a little.
This might be the first season they'll NOT be saying CALIFORNIA NEEDS RAIN. Enough already!
I don't know from snow, but six to seven inches is manageable, right? Stay warm~!
Enjoy the game...
I'm not all that excited about the Super Bowl this year when ordinarily it's a high holy holiday for me no matter who's playing. The Lombardi Trophy belongs to the NFC and there it must stay. But to remain loyal to my NFC I have to cheer for the Saints... against the Colts. One of my least favorite NFC teams against one of my most favorite AFC teams. This past season also saw the advent of the worst team in football history come to pass (or not pass, or block, or run, as it were) - the 2009 St. Louis Rams. My team.
When ordinarily this time of year I could write an essay about who's the stronger team going into the Super Bowl, this past season, I stopped paying attention to my beloved world of pro football around the fourth week, when it was clear the Rams were destined for suckitude. I probably should have watched football, but I didn't.
To watch the Super Bowl this year means I have to break my New Year's resolution of not watching any television in 2010. Since the Saints are playing, I think I can grant myself dispensation. Watching them win or lose will have beauty.
Oh... Super Bowl snacks. Gotta go with the homemade Chex Mix. My recipe isn't much different than any other you'd find on the internet except I throw in mixed nuts and sunflower kernels and slow bake it in the oven and let it marinate in a sealed container for 2 days. It's the atomic bomb of snackage. Especially with beer.
So anyway... go Saints go Colts go Super Bowl!
Sue, why did I think you're from Illinois? I'm from Indy, and have seen Hoosier Army Mom and MGM from Indiana on this blog. Z seems to be polling quite well in the Hoosier state--theough she loses points with me for supporting 1)basketball and 2) Lakers.
So if Petyon Manning gets injured or has some schedule conflict, we'll have Boiler v. Boiler (Brees / Painter). I'll be on the Brees side.
tio
Won't be watching. The only thing good about the Super Bowl is a signal that pitchers/catchers report in a couple days and we get on with real sports.
Ducky,
Bad grammatical structure there. You're trying to call baseball a real sport.
Don't get me wrong, the study of human steroid tolerance is interesting, but would be more so under stress conditions. Even playing in the rain might yield interesting data.
Teriaki and BBQ wings will be the main fare at our Super Bowl this year. Everyone else is on their own (it's a BYOF [Bring Your Own Food] night).
Chex mix might be on the menu for dessert, though... (thanks for the idea, Beamish!)
I'm watching it for the Tebow ad...
As an HOCKEY fan- I find football -except the Army / Navy game...boring....
My off-spring will be doing the cooking...(-:
C-CS
Beamish, Beamish, isn't it football who several years ago allowed their players to use buckets of crazy glue to help them hold onto the football?
And isn't it the NFL which is "lovingly" referred to as the National Felony League?
I think we had a go-round about this subject last year and thought it was settled.
Now, be nice. There's plenty of room for both sports, Football, and America's pastime, Baseball.
The fact is, football is based on brawn, and padding from head to toe, and baseball is based on finesse, and athletic ability.
As for steroids, which is a problem, I'm sure the jailbirds who play football wouldn't dream of using drugs, like poor Lyle Alzaido(sp?) did. Uh, right.
Truce?
"theough she loses points with me for supporting 1)basketball and 2)Lakers"
tio, Z's gonna getcha for that! Ha, Ha!
Pris
Pris,
I can do no better than George Carlin's authority on football vs. baseball.
And besides, if felonies are good enough for government positions, surely they're good enough for team positions where the risk of injuries or death are exponentially greater than relatively safe activities like ballet and baseball. Even swimming is more dangerous than baseball. Baseball's hardly a sport in the true sense of the word.
:P
Baseball is different from any other sport, very different. For instance, in most sports you score points or goals; in baseball you score runs. In most sports the ball, or object, is put in play by the offensive team; in baseball the defensive team puts the ball in play, and only the defense is allowed to touch the ball. In fact, in baseball if an offensive player touches the ball intentionally, he's out; sometimes unintentionally, he's out.
Also: in football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and all sports played with a ball, you score with the ball and in baseball the ball prevents you from scoring.
In most sports the team is run by a coach; in baseball the team is run by a manager. And only in baseball does the manager or coach wear the same clothing the players do. If you'd ever seen John Madden in his Oakland Raiders uniform, you'd know the reason for this custom.
Now, I've mentioned football. Baseball & football are the two most popular spectator sports in this country. And as such, it seems they ought to be able to tell us something about ourselves and our values.
I enjoy comparing baseball and football:
Baseball is a nineteenth-century pastoral game.
Football is a twentieth-century technological struggle.
Baseball is played on a diamond, in a park. The baseball park!
Football is played on a gridiron, in a stadium, sometimes called Soldier Field or War Memorial Stadium.
Baseball begins in the spring, the season of new life.
Football begins in the fall, when everything's dying.
In football you wear a helmet.
In baseball you wear a cap.
Football is concerned with downs - what down is it?
Baseball is concerned with ups - who's up?
In football you receive a penalty.
In baseball you make an error.
In football the specialist comes in to kick.
In baseball the specialist comes in to relieve somebody.
Football has hitting, clipping, spearing, piling on, personal fouls, late hitting and unnecessary roughness.
Baseball has the sacrifice.
Football is played in any kind of weather: rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog...
In baseball, if it rains, we don't go out to play.
Baseball has the seventh inning stretch.
Football has the two minute warning.
Baseball has no time limit: we don't know when it's gonna end - might have extra innings.
Football is rigidly timed, and it will end even if we've got to go to sudden death.
In baseball, during the game, in the stands, there's kind of a picnic feeling; emotions may run high or low, but there's not too much unpleasantness.
In football, during the game in the stands, you can be sure that at least twenty-seven times you're capable of taking the life of a fellow human being.
And finally, the objectives of the two games are completely different:
In football the object is for the quarterback, also known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his receivers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.
In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! - I hope I'll be safe at home!
Viva Carlin... :)
Chili-cheese fondue... not too spicy (w/mild diced chiles vs jalepenos). A crowd pleaser in our household since Superbowl XVI.
btw - "Sourdough" bread is a MUST for dipping into the above. ;-)
oh yeah Jingo...this year it's raspberry chipotle bbq sauce
"I can do no better than George Carlin's authority on football vs. baseball."
Beamish, do you know, this is exactly, word for word, what you told me last year! I know Carlin's routine. I knew it last year as well.
Really my dear, you need some new material. Ha!
Pris
Pris,
LOL!
Enjoy the Super Bowl.
tio is in BIG trouble :-)
Enjoy the game, folks....it ISN"T the LAKERS TODAY? OH, man...and I have to go watch.
Well, I'm rooting for them, anyway...the other guests will understand :-)
Beamish, we will be watching the Super Bowl, thanks! I hope your team wins whichever it is. Enjoy!
When we watch the World Series, and IF the Dodgers are one of the teams(I wish!), Mr. Pris insists I have a beer to calm me down.
As for the Super Bowl, I don't need a beer. I'm more excited about spring training, and it won't be long now.
