Obama administration officials may have pressured government contractors to change job loss estimates associated with coal regulations, audio recordings reveal. The tapes show that unnamed officials with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement asked government contractors to change their calculations of job losses associated with the Stream Protection Rule.
A preliminary draft of an environmental impact statement estimated that up to 7,000 coalminers could lose their jobs under the administration’s “preferred” regulation. After a leaked copy of the report went public, officials asked the contractors to compare job estimates to a model in which another regulation was enforced, rather than the real world numbers. ...
Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Ohio, blasted the administration’s refusal to cooperate with the investigation.
“The tapes validated many of our concerns that the administration went into this with an intent of devastating the coal industry, fully knowing that the provisions in the proposed rule would put 7,000 jobs at risk,” he said. “And they wanted to get away with it by playing pretend.”
Well, Rep. Johnson, good luck with that. I just Googled your quote, which any honest media venue would use if it covered this information...but, no luck with any of the big ones. Only Conservative blogs carry this story. Ya, Mr. Johnson...good luck. This administration can 'play pretend' for years and nobody'll know.
HERE is the full story.
I've often wondered at how much the Obama people can cook any books to make figures turn to their advantage, or to hurt industries they want hurt, anything to make things look like they're going their way. I've noticed that the CBO has had a certain set of numbers that reflected badly on Obama and, the next day, they've changed to his advantage....I wonder if the Obama WH gets to them. I also wonder if this story will even be followed up on one way or the other. Or will Rep Johnson somehow be shut up. I'd have thought it deserved some attention.

It's the Chicago way!
Why is obama sweating about this sort of news, after all they've been telling us that coal is terrible, the planet is heating, cooling etc. and green jobs are the future and the best thing since wind power.
So shutting down dirty, bastard coal mines and moving all the miners to wonderful green jobs run by fairies on unicorns should be good news and a boost for the greatest president in the history of the universe.
Unless he's being lying about everything that is.
Possibly of interest
"I've often wondered at how much the Obama people can cook any books..."
That's the power of incumbency, Z. Lies and bs is all Obama has left. He's a trapped rat, but we can't underestimate him.
To liberals he is simply delivering on his campaign promise to destroy the coal industry.
Fracking natural gas is what is devastating the coal industry at the moment and will likely continue to do so.
Look for political shills to use this opportunity to push deregulation so that owners can squeeze out a bit more profit and avoid pollution prevention and safety regulations.
of course te White House got to them. They get ot everyone, from Hollywood,to Cory Booker,to MSNBC.
It's just more of Obamas "Let me be clear" rhetoric
Ever notice how he stumbles on his words and say "uh" without his tele-prompter? He has to make sure he doesn't show his true colors.
Obama and his henchman, David Axelrod, will continue to cook the books (as they always have) until they get caught, or more aptly, lose an election.
Unfortunately, they have correctly judged the electorate as a bunch of blithering idiots, who believe everything Obama and his ilk tell them.
Remember, all he needs is a 50.01%vote total, and he's in the money.
Sooner or later, though, the truth surfaces. Just ask Josef Goebbels.
It's not just the coal mining jobs lost, it's the electricity rates that will skyrocket and rolling blackouts we will all experience. The assault on domestic energy production will ruin the typical American lifestyle. For what purpose? To redistribute America's wealth outside of this nation. Obama's agenda is treasonous.
But to TELL THE AUTHORITIES TO USE WRONG INFORMATION AGAINST AMERICANS?
REALLY?
He really does want to destroy the coal industry and we need it. And we need profit for that industry so it can study better safety and hire more and do the work as cleanly as possible. Is the gov't going to pay for that research? :-)
Lisa...remember when Gloria Allred was on video whining about all the voter fraud against Hillary by the Obama people at the Houston precincts? And the Chicago Hillary supporters who also were in TX and saw it? They sure quieted down quickly, didn't they.
We've heard how the union bigwigs have made many trips to the WH, remember ACORN people were there almost immediately after the inauguration? SEIU people have been by frequently....it's all muscling. All the lobbyists Obama promised he'd never listen to. boy
AOW, thanks for the link.
Yes, even unemployment numbers are cooked to suit Obama. Aren't there ANY honest people anywhere who'll step up and give the truth?
If it's this bad now with an election looming in 2012, can you imagine a lame duck BO with nothing to stand in his way?
*shudder*
Wait until he tries and cook the election results.
Does Obma have aby ex-Greek ministers on staff? They are very good a cooking the books.
Yes, if Obama can do this, he can do anything re the election, etc.
And there's a LOT of money behind him, too. Many of you might remember the questionable voting antics I saw at my precinct and reported on 3 years ago. That'll be repeated..COUNT ON IT.
Well...let's hope someone, somewhere, blows the cover, tells the truth; I've been hoping for that for 3 1/2 years and I think it's getting close.
Even some Democrats aren't real pleased with Obama these days. And not just the jerks who don't think he's left ENOUGH (there are millions like that, as you know)
The America-loving Dems sound like they're getting leery...
Even Booker almost made it safely into the land of criticism, only to walk back in shame. Juan WIlliams thought he'd done the wrong thing by walking it back. That surprised me. If Lib Juan feels that way, MANY Dems felt that way.
And not for no reason.
I even heard Juan criticize Obama's economy without saying it's 'still Bush's' the other day. Holy COW.
'let us pray...' :=)
Z,
Another example of unions and their selective outrage. Where is the coal miner's union and all other unions in the "solidarity" we hear so much about? Union, including mine, are in the Dems pocket and don't in any way, shape or form represent workers. Unions aren't of any use anymore.
Law & Order...excellent point there. I hadn't thought of that.
Unions never seem to show up when it might make a liberal look bad.
They really ARE NOT for the people, are they.
By the way, considering any pieces you'd like to write for geeeZ!! No pressure, obviously..
Nothing of significance will happen until the Prius and Volt owners take to the streets. All 2000 of the Volt owners...and the Prius ( Pious condescending ) are way to "hip" to bother.
While the Volt owners...all 2000 of them claim they get 94 mpg.....they're still really confused about how electricity is made.
Yet they're not bothered as they only travel 10 miles a day to pick up their caviar and French wines. Otherwise...it all comes to them.
"To liberals he is simply delivering on his campaign promise to destroy the coal industry."
Yet...the simple inbred loons of West Virginia have trouble deciding who to vote for? Incredible that OVomit would get one stinking vote in WVA! Or Ohio. Imagine it....OVomit shoots their industry down...puts them on an unemployment line...and yet 42% might still vote for him?
Z: "Juan WIlliams thought he'd done the wrong thing by walking it back. That surprised me. If Lib Juan feels that way, MANY Dems felt that way."
It seems Juan is in good company. Harold Ford agrees as well. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0512/76563.html
Imp, why do you think Obama seems bent on destroying coal?
Viburnum, I'd heard that and had forgotten....thanks for the link.
Do you think libs could ever wake up and would ever condemn Obama in general? on any meaningful scale?
Z,
Give me a day or so to think. We're in our last weeks of school with reviews and exams. Then I go to Louisville to grade Advanced Placement U.S. history essays writtten by students who took the test. Again, I'm honored by the invitation.
No hurry...just know it's welcome any time! GOod luck with your work.
