What's there to say besides these kids had guts and their mission was fully vetted and supported by the citizens.
We still have the same bravery today...only the goals are muddier. So it's even tougher for our best in combat now.
The film reminds me that we should avoid war until it can no longer be avoided; it reminds me that our military resources are precious and limited. It reminds me that this country has not been well-led for a very long time.
Z - That is amazing footage. The brave men who went through the Kamikazi attack should not be forgotten.
I thought the video said that the U.S.S. Indiana was attacked. If so the guns and the prow of that ship are outside of the football studium here to honor the men who died.
Years ago, my wife and I were visiting in Kyoto and were taking a taxi from the hotel over to the Shinkansen Station for our trip by rail south to Hiroshima. The cab driver was one of those chatty types, who spoke pretty good English … but he was not the safest driver, as he was zigzagging through traffic at a high rate of speed and I was actually quite nervous about it. You see, in Japan, if a cab becomes involved in a traffic accident, the individual hiring the cab must share the blame. So I asked him to please slow down.
The cab driver said, “No probrem. I am velly skilled taxi dliver. In war, I was kamikaze pirate.”
“I’m sorry,” I said. “You were what?”
“A pirate. You know, pirate fry prunes on run way trip”
Well, this made me laugh aloud and I could see the driver looking at me in the rear view mirror, so I said, “I apologize for laughing, but from everything we ever learned about Kamikaze pilots, not too many survived the war to drive cabs in Kyoto. What kind of Kamikaze pilot survives the war?”
He pointed his finger toward his head and answered simply, “I was velly smart pirate.”

Imp, I hope you're right; not sure. There certainly are some very brave and dedicated soldiers today; but I believe issues like Benghazi and the letting go/retirement of the big wig generals because Obama won't listen to them, etc., is eating away at them. MANY are leaving...MANY.
mustang, I think you're right; but I wonder when we decide "NOW"...because, possibly, an earlier "NOW...fight them" can possibly avoid a HUGE "NOW" with many more dead.

Latest scoop...through a FOIA...it was learned that there were many military assets close enough to Benghazi to have rendered assistance.
The lies and deceit keep coming from this sack of dung.

Imp! I had heard something hinted about the other day in this regard. We'd been told myriad of times that nothing could have got close enough to help in that short time, but we all have to step back and ask the White House "How do YOU know how long the siege was going to last?"
Hindsight can work for OR against us, can't it. Not many ask "But how did you know it wouldn't take 2 days, so why didn't you get the help coming?"
I don't know what FOIA is.
I just read a great quote about this administration, though I think it's too complimentary:

Resting a case on immediate assistance in Benghazi is a non-starter. Logistics trumps intentions. What should be followed up on, especially during HRCs candidacy, are the repeated warnings and previous violent events that should have led to an increased security posture...which would include prepositioning of the FEST.
The Administration and State are culpable for the conditions that led to the attack, but not notions of the cavalry riding to the sound of the gun and saving the day.
I think there's something to be said for the motivation and sacrifice of the Kamikaze pilots...but at the same time, I'd be a bit worried to see that same fervor here for similar senseless tactics, in the service of a cult of personality.
A pilot safely landed is a pilot that can fight another mission. A pilot sacrificed is an asset wasted. This waste of skilled airmen in both Japan and in Germany was nonsensical.
These guys were the greatest generation, and they never asked for it. They just did what they understood as their duty.

They're all guaranteed to land.

CI, I'm with you on not resting it on that, but I do believe that nobody knew how long this siege might last so it was worth a try. Those SEALS sure thought it was worth a try. I still can't watch video showing the hand marks going down the wall; I can't even think about it...
I don't think we'd ever get to the point where our soldiers were so willing to do so blatantly...with absolutely NO hope at all. THough I have always said my hands would have become WELDED to the sides of those boats off Normandy while I was being told "go to the beach!"....oy.

Actually, I'd ay that's all pretty tame compared to what our boys had to deal with in WWII, Most Especially with the japanese.
Benghazi? Mustang's already diffused me on this, but the story I heard was that an AC-130 was an hour away and was On the way and was recalled by the Pentagon,(Who orders the Pentagon) and could have arrived 2 hours into a 7 hour fight and would have dispersed the al queerda attackers, likely saving the SEALs at least.
Z - Don't misunderstand, I firmly believe the Counterterrorism Security Group [CSG] should have been convened, and the FEST should have been deployed. But they would have arrived too late to have any impact on the event in Benghazi. To claim otherwise is a dry hole.
The only benefit to be gained now, is to hammer the disregarded indicators and warnings that should have led to an increase security posture at the Benghazi Annex.
CI, fwiw, I personally believe Ambassador Steven's death was a hit using the al queerda people as useful idiots. The hildebeast was hip deep (sorry folks) in it.

Specific Reasons may escape my uninformed mind but cause and opportunity aren't that hard to deduce. PS - You know hilrod hasn't told the truth about anything in her life right ? Ever.

IMP. she is over maximum weight on the broom now. Russia is working on a prototype replacement, but scientists in Sochi are temporarily disabled from the water, food, and radioactivity to complete the project.
Kid - That's certainly some conjecture, but it would have to be squared with Ambassador Stevens declining, on record, additional security....when offered such by Gen. Ham.
