Figured it out, yet?

Art by Bob Mack
It really is difficult to know where to begin. I suppose we could start with John Kerry’s pronouncement that climate change is as dangerous to the world as nuclear weapons in the hands of the Iranians and North Koreans, or chemical weapons in the hands of Baathists, or legislature in the hands of John McCain.

If not Kerry’s startling revelation, then perhaps we should talk about Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama’s conspiracy to drive Californians into drought, which given their supposed concern about climate change phenomena, forces one to scratch their head. Yes, by all means save the smelt and to hell with tens of thousands of people or tens of billions of dollars lost to the state and national economy. Unfortunately for Californians, the entire state legislature is composed of morons exactly like Pelosi, and Boxer, and Mammy Feinstein.

Or we could discuss Obama’s intention to shut down an additional 20% of our coal industry, which will drive the cost of electricity up by 70 to 80% and increase unemployment further. This while tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer funded stimulus found its way into the green industries, which all went bankrupt. There was nothing to help America’s employment picture, though. No, the term “shovel ready” was only an inside joke.

And how about those youngsters, eh? In spite of their college degrees and advanced degrees, there will be no jobs for them. They’ll remain at home with Mom and Dad and play computer games while the Obama’s continue to pursue their taxpayer funded jetsetter life-style. Screw America.

And by golly, if the chief executive doesn’t like it when Congress exercises its prerogative, you know—as set forth in the Constitution, then he’ll just anoint himself King of America; he has a pen and a phone, you know.

Or is this all no more than a ploy to change our domestic conversation away from Obama’s hopey-dopey leftist failures in advance of the 2014 elections? I suspect this is the case, but in spite of all these examples of depressing leadership, which is only the tip of our national malaise, 37% of the American people are happy with President Obama’s performance as this country’s chief executive. More than one-third … My gosh, I never realized we had that many federal government employees.

Have you figured it out yet?  We're all living at the animal farm, and guess who's become an absolute tyrant ...

Americans aren't paying attention -- well, at least a lot of Americans. As far as they're concerned, nothing is wrong. After all, their "devices" are working, right?

Attention, all of you Americans who are in denial as to what is happening to our country:

Congress may have the perogative as defined by the Constitution, but I'm pressed to think of that last time they acted in accordance with it.

"In spite of their college degrees and advanced degrees, there will be no jobs for them."

Perhaps if more of our youth pursued degrees in fields like electrical engineering or the like....as opposed to art history or womens (womyns?) studies, they might be able to find jobs.

Utter crap.

Green industries have been more successful than the average venture capital funded industry.
Conservatives live in this dream world where every business is success except those that have government funding.
They probably haven't realized that the price of renewables is dropping quickly.
Keep shilling for ExxonMobil like a trained seal.

The switch to natural gas is what's causing coal usage to drop and it's not driving electricity cost up by 80%.
Utter rot.

Utter crap, Ducky? Do you ever tire of being wrong? Do you ever stop to do any research, beyond the talking points provided to you, and other mindless leftists, by your handlers? Fact: of all the fossil-fuel sources, coal is the least expensive for its energy content. In 2008, a million Btu of energy from coal carried a production price—i.e., the original price of the resource at its point of origin —of $1.60, compared to $7.30 for natural gas and $16.20 for petroleum.

Fact: the following Obama-taxpayer backed green energy failures are a matter of record. An asterisk indicates companies presently in bankruptcy. The sum of all these is considerable, even for someone rich, like yourself, Ducky—so I don’t want to hear any of your “drop in the federal economy bucket” crap.

Yellow dog democrats have been around for decades. When Romney said too many people don't want to give up the free stuff he was correct.
Like ducktail and his pals, if it isn't free, why have it.

Now the lead from behind community organizer is upset with Uganda's gay rights policy. To hell with Syria killing thousands and Venezuela riots. They need to be careful or he is going to draw a line in the sand again.

Obamacare costing 2.5 million jobs, minimum wage increase cost 1 million jobs but what difference does it make because they will have more time to start a business.

I have to agree with Ducky about the success of green industry. Tesla is very successful. Problem is you have to be very rich to afford one.

Ducky's here said...

Sam, you assume no green success.

The price of solar panels and their efficiency dropped and increased respectively. In many cases this has been due to government investment.
Some companies have failed do to the cost savings in Chinese manufacturing.

Now, let;s compare the relatively small amount you list to the ".com" bubble of the 90's and the derivatives market of the "00's". Massive failures of venture capitalism and investment banking.

CI, if you think FOX is very like MSNBC, you're not paying attention, and much as you may not think so, I'm extremely sensitive to bias on either side. And, obviously, I see some on FOX. But compared to MSNBC? :-) That's a laugh.
And does NOBODY see the lack of both sides on CNN? It's changing, thankfully, but..

My GOD, that's like when leftists chastise O'Reilly or Hannity when they don't even know they're not doing news, they're editorialists, they're opinionists, so to speak.

Let me know when you see a panel with strong liberals and conservatives on MSNBC like FOX constantly has. Does MSNBC have anybody like Juan WIlliams or Kirsten what's-her-name, or Alan Colmes, or Bob Beckel on practically FULL TIME?
You might say MSNBC's Joe Scarbrough is a conservative but, REALLY? :-)

EVERYBODY:

This morning, FOX covered a story (and hopefully, will continue to follow it) on how the FCC will now be asking TV stations questions even more censorial than the Fairness Doctrine thing that came up and got killed a few years ago...I think that's the name of it?..
Only Republican Congress members are angry and have written to the FCC about free speech, etc.

WHY doesn't the left want free speech, too?
Wouldn't it be reassuring if Democrats, too, wrote demanding that this new assault by the Obama White House be stopped?

They've got the temerity to suggest that smaller towns, etc., aren't getting balanced coverage!!

THen we've got the lefty who's offering ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS to leftist political races IF they support climate change....

Anonymous said...

From Z :

Imp, have you ever watched Al Jazeera? Honestly, it's pretty reasoned and balanced, believe it or not. Actually, it's not even 'balanced', it's just THE NEWS, like they do in Europe.
Every news reader is not an opinion person, like here in the States.

Constitutional Insurgent said...

"...you're not paying attention..."

You've said that before, but it's a throwaway line. It carries as much weight as if I employed it toward you. That's the beauty of opinions and subjective assessments...they're only valid to the beholder.

Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but news should be news, not a debate club. The current model employed by the networks are for ratings and profit, not reporting. This model presumes that every issue has only two sides with which to argue from, and presents the packaged presentations of those two sides as if the spokespeople are the flag bearers and water carriers.

I don't think Scarborough is much of a Conservative, but I have yet to meet a Liberal who thinks Beckel and Williams are much of a Liberal.

"My GOD, that's like when leftists chastise O'Reilly or Hannity when they don't even know they're not doing news, they're editorialists, they're opinionists, so to speak."

That's a good point which is why I wonder at many on the right directing their bias-driven angst at Maddow, Schultz, Olbermann, etc....

But I do agree with you that al Jazeera English is a decent outlet for straight news.

Anonymous said...

From Z:

Al Jazeera is a decent outlet.

CI, I honestly don't think that one can watch FOX and MSNBC and not see much more angry bias and insults at MSNBC than at FOX. You will not find a screecher at FOX like Sharpton nor a sycophant like Matthews is.
Scarborough becomes more left as he stays at MSNBC. And wasn't much of a conservative earlier, but a little better.

Maddow, Schultz, Olbermann; good point, but I've never seen the blatant insults at FOX that those 3 do or did. But, yes...I'd never slam them for not doing news because they don't do news any more than O'Reilly does. Everyone covers subjects IN the news, but they are NOT news readers.

And I do agree that only two sides isn't adequate to cover any story; and that's what FOX does, but at least it DOES present two sides on 98% of their panel discussions.

What's stuck with me for years is when CNN first starting talking about the new conservative cable channel that was going on the air soon; I remember thinking "Man, it hasn't even gone ON yet, why the insults already?"
I don't mind people saying MSNBC isn't biased and FOX is half as much as I mind people who think CNN is not biased.

I'd rather watch Al Jazeera panel discussions any time.......or Deutsche Welle Nachrichten (which is actually NACHRICHTEN), but I barely catch it ...only when I'm channel surfing and it's only on about an hour a day, if that. :-(

The question is this: Is President Obama an idiot, or not? A few years ago, he wasted all kinds of money on the so-called stimulus initiative. In essence, he took our hard earned money, and squandered it. Here are a few examples of criminal waste:

• In Winter Haven, Florida the transit authority bought five new buses for $2.4 million in federal stimulus funds. The bus system averages 4 riders per hour in Winter Haven.

• Mr. Obama spent $14 billion in renewable energy subsidies, to solar, wind, and other renewable energy projects between 2009-2012. These expenditures represented less than 1.2 percent of overall electrical generation.

• Mr. Obama paid subsidies to those nitwits that purchased electrical cars to the tune of $7,500 per car, which reduced the sticker price of the Chevy Volt and lowered the cost of that junk heap to $41,000. Oh, and the US government also used our tax dollars to purchase 116 Chevy Volts for use by federal bureaucrats—despite the availability of much cheaper options.

• Green Jobs (snicker) … a waste of $500 BILLION. After two years, the green jobs program achieved 10% of the target level. Bend over America … here it comes again.

• $5 billion wasted on an inefficient weatherization program; can you spell corruption and shoddy work? Contractors involved with this plumb were found charging $27 for light bulbs normally priced at $1.50 … and $75 for carbon monoxide detectors that only cost $22.

• I love the $2.6 billion given to failed green energy companies to help them vacate their now defunct operations. Well, every little bit of graft and corruption helps, right?

• How about the $9.4 million spent to renovate a train station abandoned for more than 3 decardes?

Meanwhile, Ducky still wants to have taxpayer sex with Obama … man.

CI, I'm well aware of Kelly's demeanor and she's nowhere near as smarmy and ugly as Maddow. I’ve read about it, Z. According to HotAir, “Everyone talks about the weather,” Mark Twain (apocryphally) observed, “but nobody does anything about it.” To some extent, the same is true about editorial bias. People have complained about bias in news coverage for decades, but only recently have the barriers to market entry been so low as to allow critics to build their own platforms to do anything about it. That frustration with editorial bias led in large part to the explosion of the blogosphere, which forced news outlets to deal substantively with the criticisms they created with their editorial biases.”

But does this mean that suddenly the government is concerned about the rather bizarre views of Rachel Madcow or the racist Al Sharpton? No, what it means in this administration is that the FCC (who is the licensing authority for media broadcasting stations) will take a good hard look at conservatives and anyone associated with the Tea Party.

And, for the most part, this is okay with a majority of Americans, including those who placed themselves in harms way protecting our Constitutional guarantees.

Constitutional Insurgent said...

"And, while you seem to very mistakenly find me a hopeless case of bias......"

C'mon Z, I'm doing no such thing. But you can at least admit that people hold inherent biases, and those biases color their assessments...right? I think it's perfectly normal for you, a Conservative, to find more affinity with Fox...and think them more fair...than the outlet most aligned with your political opposition.

But when you're making your above statements, you're ascribing your biases to me, as a metric. For example, if I don't find Fox more generally more credible than MSNBC, I'm "not paying attention". You are employing your standard, not mine.....but using it to determine the validity of my subjective assessment.

I'll agree with you, that I find most personalities on Fox more amenable to have to listen to....but what I don't see on MSNBC [most other metrics being equal in my eyes] is the revolving door that Fox has with the GOP. I'm not sure which is the farm league for whom, in this relationship, but it certainly is far cozier than I would expect to see from a credible news outlet.

Beckel is a milquetoast whom you would rightly deride, were he a Republican regular on MSNBC.

Imp - Gotcha. Born and raised in Oregon, but now a Virginian. Northern Virginia though, so my colleagues who were bred here would hesitate to call me a new southerner.

Here I come. Late to the discussion, again.

Today, I wrote a blog about how reputable climate scientists accused John Holdren, the President's personal science adviser and advocate of genocide, of pushing ZOMBIE SCIENCE. You see, there is no empirical evidence that carbon dioxide fueled global warming has any link to extreme weather. Period!

See for yourself: http://gonnasayit.com/extreme-weather-not/

With respect to renewable energy sources, the promise has outstripped the benefits.

Solar voltaic cells are over-rated: It is an intermittent source of power and cannot perform efficiently technically or economically. It does not work when the sun doesn't shine, and battery technology is not developed to the point to store enough energy at night, or in times like winter when people in northern climes get cabin fever because of the lack of sunlight.

Interestingly, the Germans (in northern Europe) went whole-hog in installing solar-voltaic cells to implement some sort of green-based economy. They are in big trouble, now, because the solar systems do not produce as advertised, and they shut down their nuclear plants after Fukushima disaster. Now, they are having to build coal plants to keep their population warm in the winter because solar simply cannot produce power reliably, nor in the quantity necessary.

Wind power is intermittent, also. The best numbers for efficiency of wind power are about 25% to 30%, and that's when the wind is blowing. Once again, we don't have the battery technology to store power for those periods when the wind does not blow. Oh, woe is me!

The truth is that for every kilowatt hour of capacity installed for solar and wind power, the same amount generated from coal, natural gas, or nuclear power must be constructed to maintain system reliability, and to keep the economy going.

It gets real simple, real quick, and this is something that starry-eyed environmentalists don't seem to understand. There is no free lunch in the energy world, and we are better off using fossil fuels, and, especially nuclear energy.

For every job created in the economy with "green" energy, more jobs are lost because of the inefficiencies introduced into the economy. People lose jobs, things cost more, and everybody loses with the so-called green economy.

The whole thing is a fairy tale.

Ducky seems to think that our government has successfully invested in these alternative energies, successfully. If you define millions of Chinese jobs building solar panels, and GE exporting wind turbine construction overseas as success, so be it.

Has it occured to anyone that the international market for solar and wind generation would not be as large as it is without the US government subsidizing the whole damned thing?

Yes! Ducky is paying his tax money to give China-men jobs with his tax money, and he loves it. Try not to laugh too hard at our friend.

Mustang, thank you for reminding me so clearly that I do live in the state of Moronfornia... and that I won't be able to wash my own Mustang in my driveway once rationing starts. And thank you for mentioning Feinstein directly... Puke. I thought you were my bud.

And talk about green. When Obama bailed out GM (and therefore bought a bazillion votes from Labor), we subsidized every Chevy Volt built.

CI,
I have no use for any of the US cable outlets.

I've reached that point, too. Superficiality rules the day in cable news broadcasts. Just when the meat of the story is beginning, the interviewer's eyes glaze over, promises are made for follow up, and the story comes to any end. Often, there is zero followup. Well, unless the story is about Justin Bieber or, recently, Philip Seymour Hoffman. We get plenty of followup on stories such as those.

Disclaimer: I rarely get to watch any evening news. I'm pretty much restricted to watching morning broadcasts.

Right now, my Policy Debate class is working on the following topic: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase alternative energy incentives for passenger vehicles in the United States.

We've already held one debate on that topic and will be holding another debate on the same topic -- with different team members, of course.

These facts keep coming up: the lack of fueling stations for vehicles powered by natural gas and the expense of buying and maintaining such vehicles.

Just sayin'.

From Z OF GeeeZ:

p47...I live in California and barely know a far left liberal. I love it here, always have, and get tired of the slams, frankly.

Everybody: Have you heard about the billionaire prepared to donate $100 million to leftwing politics pushing climate change's agenda? Ya, he fights hard and expensively against Keystone, too. SURPRISE: His company backs a competitor for the pipeline.

Please leftwingers, STOP with the Koch Brothers......we are FREAKIN' FED UP with STIRES, SOROS (Gee, he's keeping a very low profile lately, huh? :-)) and the Tide Corporation (his, of course).

Let's all settle down, stop the insults ONLY to Republicans and get educated about all the graft we have here..and that it's the Democrats who are the statistically richest and statistically tightest philanthropists.
Check out what Biden donated last year :-)

Ducky had a bowel movement and came up with: "Marine4Ever, before you give arts majors the tone how many ex military can't even hold down something at Wal-Mart?"

First of all, where did 'ex' military enter into the conversation about arts majors? (Thank you for your comment, Imp.) As usual, Dippy... uhh... Ducky, when you're caught between a rock and a hard place, you do what you're so good at... change the subject. You HAVE to have been an arts major.

Since we're gonna play flip-flop, let's do another one. I've known more millionaires that had nothing more than a high school education (not counting the one that never graduated from high school) than I've ever known arts majors that were millionaires. Come to think of it, I don't know ANY arts major millionaires. Admittedly, I'm sure there are more than a few... I just find it less boring not to hang with 'em. Before all the females get their panties in a wad, I'm referring to the male species.

Yes, most of these self-made millionaires are former military, too. You'll notice that I use 'former,' not the term 'ex,' military. I've found that dips who wear skirts and have no military training (especially, arts majors) use 'ex.' Again, ladies, it's the male(?) dips who wear shirts that I'm talking about. (These disclaimers are killin' me!)

No, I'm not a millionaire. But, I credit the experience I gained in the oil field, what little formal education that I do have and my service in the military as to my ability to give my family three hots and a cot.

OH! Wait a minute! My bad! Those millionaires and I didn't build that.

M4E, I only graduated from 8th grade, but you had me with 'panties in a wad'.

You exceptional person you.

@Bob, Yea, we should have Thorium/Molten Salt reactors on every street corner....

100% safe. They had one running in the 60's. I will say we chose Uranium instead because it provided us with weapons grade Nuklar fuel.
