This was sent to me yesterday afternoon.  Had to post it.

God bless them all.

I liked the premise, but I tend to take an over-critical eye at presentations honoring the Armed Forces. It's certainly a fault of mine....but could people not get folks that actually look like service members for these things?

Too maudlin for you or was it the "jingoism" that bothered you?

Would it have been more palatable / believable for you if John Wayne or Mel Gibson starred in it, Tom Clancy wrote it and Oliver Stone directed it?

Personally I don't doubt that al the vets are real...they come in all ages and shapes now.

The soldiers appearing in the back though might not be...as I noticed that the female soldier did not know how to salute properly. So I have my doubts if she was one at all. That or improperly trained....today they don't have to measure up or do pull ups to wear the uniform. So I wouldn't be surprised by either scenario.

Imp - It was the 'JROTC cadet' like Soldiers who entered the theater that bothered me. But I've alwasy had a critical eye for how service members are represented. I know this particular piece wasn't professional produced for a mass audinece, but too often the portrayals of those in uniform come off as farcical and caricature-ish.....at least to me.

The Vets in the seats looked real enough, they do come in all shapes and sizes.

@CI:

No doubt it was a low budget production done by or influenced by a couple of those vets.

But I don't think the ads seen on TV for the Corp, Coasties, Navy or the AF are anything but top notch...and there's nothing farcical about them...slick and glamorous maybe..but hey...it's advertising.

Army too of course. "Be anything..."

Z - I hate it that I can't see the white boxes that you post.

Imp - I agree with recruiting ads, they're slick...also laughable, conisdering the latest Army ad "Beyond the Battlefield". Where they try to induce folks to join with vague promises that 'might' not be sent into harm's way...maybe...trust us...

It's the other portrayals in non-recruiting commercials and TV/movies. I find myself screaming at my TV.

Sue...you need to install Flash Player or initialize it in your browser. That'll fix the issue with no videos...OK?

Ask someone or Google how to do it.
