Sunday Faith Blog

The light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup.

As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up..

He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk, so naturally....I assumed you had stolen the car."

Z: Well, folks...you know that could be any of us!  DO we set an example of the best tenets of our faith? Maybe it would help the whole world if we started?

"We are the Bibles the world is reading," Billy Graham

"In everything set them an example by doing what is good." Titus 2:7

Do something good today; be an example!

And, by the way........I can't imagine anybody doing, or knowing, what Jesus would do...I sometimes advise young Christian kids to think "what would PAUL do?"   Seems an easier task, right?! :-)

Good idea.
I read or heard something about a year ago that we should ask:
"What would Jesus have us  do?".

Z - We should do what we preach - or follow our bumper stickers.

Jesus would have us do unto others as we would want them to do unto us.

Paul would do the same.

Sometimes we forget what we preach to others and lose our temper. But we should not forget what Jesus would have us do.

John 13:35 It is by your love for one another, that everyone will recognise you as my disciples.

36 Simon Peter said, 'Lord, where are you going?' Jesus replied, 'Now you cannot follow me where I am going, but later you shall follow me.'

But first, you have to make bail! Not a one of us doesn't fall down every day. I don't think it a stretch, though, to suggest that Jesus would use His turn signal.

"Have us do" is different, isn't it!

I figure trying to live up to Paul is difficult enough...but to DO WHAT JESUS WOULD DO is ...'what?' :-)

DaBlade...use his turn signal. I like the metaphor :-)

Sue...well said.

And, of course, the amazing sermon today was pretty much on this subject.
That happens so often, as I know my church-going Geeezers have experienced!

Geeezers is with a sof old GEEZERS :-)

If you are a Christian the term, "What would Jesus do?" is usually an understood concept. If you are not a Christian maybe you don't really understand. It goes much further than turning the other cheek, which most of us don't do.

WWJD is much deeper that that. It means to forgive, too. It means to see things differently, not as somebody in a hurry who does not ask the right questions.

There has been a lot of derision about people who wear the WWJD plastic bracelets. Bracelet wearers are either broadcasting their faith, or keeping the bracelet to remind them of that faith. One question that pops up is whether Jesus would have worn a WWJD bracelet. I hope I am not blaspheming.

I cannot say what Jesus would do in any particular case, I can only guess. All we can do is try to remember what Jesus told us, and pray that we do the right thing.

An expert in the law, tested him [Jesus] with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
___________________Matthew 22

From here flows all the actions of WWJD. Easy to summarize. A lifetime to make it part of your DNA.

The apostle John is a great example of how the Lord can do that in us though. Remember the incident in his youth where the Samaritans 'dissed' Jesus and his crew? John thundered, "Lord shall we call fire down upon them like Elijah did?" Contrast that to the elderly apostle of love in action seen in his last letters. It's not like he lost sight of people who still diss Jesus, but what a changed outlook! I wish I had HIS biography to follow this transformation. It would probably look similar for all of us.

Bob, you hit exactly on why I personally prefer "what would PAUL do?"
None of us knows what the Lord would think he'd do, let alone DO :-)
With Paul, all man, not divine, we can at least guess if we can't hit his mark (which VERY few have done, of course!)

Bayside...I'm always touched when I think of Jesus telling John "here is your mother"...
Imagine being the apostle whom Jesus loved? Wow.
The good news is that he loves us all that much.........or close :-)

But, of course, what do I KNOW? Indeed, what would Paul know about that, either:? :-)

Part of the deal of getting salvation is making Jesus your Lord.
Doing what He wants us to do.
Not what He did.
We get general guidelines of what He wants from His Word.
The specific we get from His Spirit.
He may not speak audibly, but there is a still, small voice.

Ducky, I'm not sure what we have to learn about homelessness, as the video discusses they teach, or why doors seem to intimidate some, but there is certainly something to be said for the little cost involved in a church without a building.

Ed, there is certainly that small voice.
And I do think it's important to remind ourselves to be our best selves, particularly when we ARE the "only Bible some people will ever read."

What would Jesus do? It seems to me Jesus might perform a miracle.
I hope He does because we need one right about now.

@Kid:

I thought we were His miracle?

IMP, Sometimes we need a little sign.
