Bill would require California's science curriculum to cover climate change

Reading, writing and . . . global warming?
A Silicon Valley lawmaker is gaining momentum with a bill that would require "climate change" to be among the science topics that all California public school students are taught.
The measure, by state Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, also would mandate that future science textbooks approved for California public schools include climate change.
"You can't have a science curriculum that is relevant and current if it doesn't deal with the science behind climate change," Simitian said. "This is a phenomenon of global importance and our kids ought to understand the science behind that phenomenon."
The state Senate approved the bill, SB 908, Jan. 30 by a 26-13 vote. It heads now to the state Assembly. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken numerous actions to reduce global warming, but he has yet to weigh in on Simitian's bill. Other Republicans in the Capitol, however, are not happy about the proposal.

As a Californian, I am not surprised that the California legislature is yet again imposing political influence into our schools. Yes, I said political.
The environmental lobby has evolved over the years into a political lobby, pure and simple.
Leftist political thinking reigns supreme in Sacramento. Global warming advocates are in hysterical mode, ready to discredit any opinion to the contrary, and to indoctrinate our children.
The only surprise in all this would be if they, in this curriculum, included scientific opinion which goes counter to their "new" religion of Gaia.
We are supposed to believe that scientists and climate "experts" who can't predict with certitude the weather for next week, can predict the climate for the next one hundred years, and as if that weren't enough, they can expound on the presumption that WE are the reason for this calamity.
Enter the California legislature, who evidently will put aside if only temporarily, their zeal for five year olds to learn about sex and all it's proclivities, to herald the end of the world unless we dastardly humans live a meager, third world existence.
This mandate of course, will exclude they themselves, because after all they NEED their perks. Elitists never include themselves in any sacrifice they proclaim as needed for the good of man.
What better way to raise a new generation of heathens who believe in the sun god, than to "educate" them of the perils in seeking the American dream, and to guide them to the sheer goodness of less is more?
Since this movement has taken on a religious zeal, and the king of global warming, Al Gore, has chosen as his religion(his word), Gaia, it seems to me that teaching the doomsday scenario of climate change and it's causes, goes against the separation of church and state.
I have only this plea to all parents. Enroll your children in private school. Preferably a Christian school, where God still has a say in all things regarding man and nature.

try to get research sponsored when you can't find an expert to give you peer review
and if you're fortunate enough to get the right peer review you may get public funds to continue
did any'y'all read the article a couple of weeks ago where the greenie suggested that scientists who dispute global warming should be tried and sent to prison? kind of like holocaust deniers?

As someone who honestly believes that the proliferation of thermometers causes global warming, I gotta ask -
Why are they worried about the way science is taught? These idiots can't do math.
What happens to the "average global temperature" if you have twice as many thermometers in the desert as you do in the Artic?

Hey, nanc..that's outrageous!! But, remember, at that Bali global climate change conference they didn't even INVITE another point of view. that is the big, open minded "progressive", right!?
My sister got treated to a resort/spa week in Tecate, Mexico last week.........she said it snowed there and it was cold enough that the 1" of snow lasted 24 hours! They told them it was the first time in twenty years they'd had snow!

Actually, it would be very good if there were more science classes instead of these useless subjects such as Transgender Studies or Mexican Studies. Also, it would be good if the subject "climate" be part of the subject "Physics" to teach pupils what we know and what we don't know about "how climate works". If it is done right, the pupils would learn about measurements taken today in order to determine the effects in the past and today, the models currently used, and the probability that predictions are correct. Then they would find out that we are unable today to predict the weather one week in advance, let alone 50 or 100 years in advance. This would need to be a course free from politics, just teaching the facts, including the arguments from both sides about the impact human behavior could possibly have on the climate (close to zilch).
That would be good. However, if something is proposed by politicians, doubts are in order whether the objective is really an objective scientific assessment, but rather political (left) indoctrination. Since we have enough indoctrination and useless themes already in the curricula of our schools, one can only be against this measure.

Some math wouldn't hurt either. And of course, how can you even BEGIN to study "global warming" until you've had a class or two in thermodynamics???
I still believe thermometers cause global warming.

You've got one heck of a strong case for your argument. Throw in ice drills and I think you'll close the deal. Of course, without all those thermometers, they never would have started drilling...
