Thanks Z - I rather enjoyed that.

Offtopic - We are having an unexpected snowfall. Big white flakes - it's pretty.

Sue, enjoy the snow! It is beautiful, isn't it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love that song and love The Band. The words always get to me somehow!

"The Last Waltz" was a great Scorcese movie. I myself went to numerous concerts at Winterland in SF -- but I missed this one.

VERY much enjoyed most everything from The Band.

Find and listen to them play "Ain't Got No Home." Lots of fun.

Mustang, you LIKE it? I'm glad!!

Ducky, what's Nemo?

Imp....ILOVE The Band and (sorry) am not a big fan of Billy Joel-type music tho he's had some good tunes.

BZ...Glad you're a BAND fan, too!

WELCOME TO POPE FRANCIS I...From Argentina. I'm eager to hear what he's about.

Z - Did you hear that he only has one lung. That surprised me as it could be a health problem.

Pris said...

Oh Yeah Z, a great breather from the news!

and Imp, thanks, I'm a big Billy Joel fan! I see he's also a good sport huh? Terrific.

Z said...

Sue, I didn't know what the health problem was, but I did hear he had a significant one.
And he's 76!
Who knows what goes into this selection?
All I know is I love the pomp and ceremony and wish him and all Catholics the very best.

And I sincerely hope he puts God's word of the last thousands of years ahead of immoral Western society of 2013.

I read a phrase recently that said "Far from GOd? Who moved?"

The new Pope is a Jesuit, and from the description of the ostentatious display of "humility," and the "stark simplicity" and "humbleness" of the way he chose to live in Buenos Aires, he undoubtedly has communist sympathies.

I wonder if he will insist on living outside The Vatican and move into a two-room apartment in one of the poorer sections of Rome?

Sorry to be so cynical, but I've never been able to trust people who eschew luxury and refinement in favor of austerity when they don't have to.

The news reported he always took public transportation and insisted on shopping and cooking for himself during his tenure as Archbishop in Argentina.

What next? A Pope who has himself publicly flogged, then nailed to a cross and paraded around town in a loincloth every year during Passion Week?

This does not bode well for a future already in danger of being eclipsed altogether.

FT, I'm really sorry to hear that.

It's almost like all the beautiful things in life are being cast aside because "some don't have"...
MOST are NEVER going to have, but we have promoted that state of being and demoted the state of self-reliance and success. The richer, the more dastardly, I guess?

What a terribly naive, dangerous situation.

FT, let me blab on because this is a subject near and dear to both our hearts:

I believe there are lovely things in this world that people can aspire to, but we don't seem to honor aspiration anymore.

Obviously, very VERY few aspire to being POPE!, but that he's pampered and lives in a royal fashion seems right to me as long as he promotes helping the poor, etc. I will admit the enormous richness in many Catholic cathedrals, among squallor (as I've seen in Mexico City, for example) made me uneasy, but the poor people LOVE that church, they come to it on their knees and give money and offerings to keep it there! It's a beautiful thing...they feel it's transcendent. That's not a bad thing.

Here in Los Angeles, I look at some of the more expensive-shopped streets and see shops closing down for lack of business and I realize the beauty, those great book shops where sales clerks had actually READ the books and spoke English,e tc., are gone...the other specialty shops' things can be had on line at a little less cost but not the QUALITY (in general)...and that's just the way things are going.

The rich HIRE, the rich GIVE to charity in large numbers (Republicans more than Democrats, statistically, it's worth noting because of the lies to the contrary)...and to demean the rich, or screw them at every corner, is WRONG. Not all the rich are SO rich they can withstand the higher taxes, the constant restrictions on their businesses, etc.

I believe the poor NEED the rich not only for charity but for something to look up to....it's GOOD for a society to have lovely things in it.
That some rich don't act fairly, or give, that's just human nature, and shame on them, but ... some poor steal and kill to get what they want. Who's worse?

enough blabbing...
I wonder if I'm making my point really clear...maybe not.

A nice change to political haggling to hear or see what others find interesting in music. Here's another from Billy Joel that kind of wraps up forty years of news headlines into a song with a good beat that I like ...

If Jesuits are "men astutely trained", then the new Pope may be a man for the times, especially if he's sworn a pledge to the simple life, austerity and and humble poverty.

With the new global rulers waiting in the wings to embrace the world in their visions of "sustainable development", eugenics, population control and submission to their rule, this Pope just may have found a place at the table along side the new tyrants like "Zbig Brother" Brezinski and Uncle Dave Rockefeller.

@ Ducky

come shovel out after the next "Nemo"

"In 1970, former National Security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski wrote in Between Two Ages, that:
"Technology will make available to the leaders of major nations, techniques for conducting secret warfare, of which only a bare minimum of the security forces need be appraised.....techniques of weather modification could be employed to produce prolonged periods of drought or storm."

Why not just speak directly to Zbig himself? He might tell you how close he is to achieving his long held vision of imposing a new world slave state.

@Z:

"That some rich don't act fairly, or give..."

Hmmm..two VP's, Gore ( now a multi, multi gazillionaire...Al Jazzera not withstanding...just his climate change fraud ) is a cheap bastard alongside Dear Uncle Joe..

Our new SoS...JFK....cheapest ( and richest ) bastard in the Senate. Tried to skate on a tax on his 45,000,000 yacht. Real POS.

Ahhhhh...but they're the "royalty" who do "good" for the dirty masses of asses, don't they? Like exempt themselves from every, EVERY law they pass onto us....give themselves raise after raise...medical benefits....staff and franking...transportation and go in "poor" and come out filthy rich and have produced...NOTHING.

Billy Joel sounds like very cheerful, talented elevator music to me. I've never really liked very popular music any more than I like very popular art. But, there ya go.
I KNOW he's marvelously loved and marvelously talented; as a pianist, beleive me, Iknow. As a singer, believe me, I know.
But give me THE BAND, and LEON RUSSELL, and SUPER TRAMP and (can't sing)Neil Young :-) etc etc...
I'm not a big Springsteen fan, either (ducking now....Iknow the raw eggs are being thrown!)

What is JC and JOHNNY? Something from Kid's video? I can't listen to it here at the office. ???

Imp, you DON'T mean Jesus Christ, right? :-) :-)

"you can take what ya need and leave the rest, but you should never have taken the very beeeeesst........the niiiight they drove ol' Dixie down........" I swear, it makes me cry..it really does! And I've only been to Orlando in the south! :-) and Atlanta airport 2938723947 times for connecting flights.
(had a house on the Baker CHain of lakes...so cool! actually, HOT AS HELL, but you know..>!)

Kid...THE WEIGHT rocks...I almost posted that but can NEVER EVER resist this tune and the way they do it. That original BAND album (brown with black/white pic of the group) is as good as Grateful Dead's skeleton-covered album. That old stuff was painfully good. (MAMA TRIED...BIG BERTHA...remember?)

Z, we were talking Johnny Carson. Beyond that, I can't say in mixed company.

Z said...

Johnny carson?
Can someone tell me where HE came into the picture? Which comment!? :-)

As for your video which I just saw, Kid..I WANT TO HUG THAT KITTY! What a sweetie she is!
