A busy news day of combative
Congressional Obamacare hearings and Presidential speeches did
CNN no favors in primetime last night. The
Jeff Zucker-run
cable network hit its lowest primetime time result among adults 25-54
in over a year Wednesday despite all the cable newers being up double
digits over the day before during Health and Human Services Sec.
Kathleen Sebelius’ morning testimony. Between 8 PM and 11 PM
last night, CNN had a mere 67,000
viewers
among the key news demo. That’s the worst its done in the demo since
August 10 last year. With the Olympics were on NBC last August, CNN drew
just 62,000 among the 25-54s that Friday. Not only was CNN behind
rivals
Fox News Channel (396,000) and
MSNBC (127,000) but also it did worse than sister station HLN (93,000) and CNBC (79,000). The most watched show on CNN last night was
Piers Morgan Live
at 9 PM which got a soft 83,000 in the demo and 340,000 viewers
overall.
Overall CNN had 285,000 viewers in primetime last night
compared to MSNBC’s 683,000 and FNC’s 2.312 million. (end of article)
Z: to me, that's not great news. FNC is FAR more watched than other news shows, but so what? Aren't those people voting? MSNBC shows there are enough fringe lefties (though I am starting to think MSNBC is NOT fringe, that most libs feel the extremist way about most things)...so what? CNN is way down.
I won't say CNN is not biased, but I'd really rather see more people watching that than MSNBC.
And maybe even a little less watching FOX. These stats just prove how divided we are.
I think ALL the cables are jacking us all around just for ads..............stirring the pot, screaming in ways that get us riled up, too.
What do you think?

Hi Z. IMO, we don't need a melting pot of "moderation" (CNN?), we need actual conservatism (FOX) to defeat the socialist progressives (MSNBC) at the ballot box. Of course, most oBaminator voters aren't watching any of these. They are either really old democrat folks living in the past and in bed by 8pm and no clue what has happened to their party, or they're really young, politically disengaged and playing video games (or getting their news from Jon Stewart)
I'd watch Comedy Central before I'd watch CNN.. I wonder if all the television news outlets aren´t becoming concerned that they´ll end up with an audience made up predominantly of low information!
Fox News targets an audience that is intelligent, and well-educated! .
Only a mindfulness liberal could that pathetic station.
stirring the pot, screaming in ways that get us riled up
I can barely stand to watch the or the pundits.
THIS IS INCREDIBLE!
(CBS News) WASHINGTON - For 31 days now, the Obama administration has been telling us that Americans by the millions are visiting the new health insurance website, despite all its problems.
But no one in the administration has been willing to tell us how many policies have been purchased, and this may be the reason: CBS News has learned enrollments got off to an incredibly slow start.
Early enrollment figures are contained in notes from twice-a-day "war room" meetings convened within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services after the website failed on Oct. 1. They were turned over in response to a document request from the House Oversight Committee.
The website launched on a Tuesday. Publicly, the government said there were 4.7 million unique visits in the first 24 hours. But at a meeting Wednesday morning, the war room notes say "SIX" enrollments have occurred so far."

This is NOT a joke
The Ratings are out Today. Fox & Megan Kelly Beating Rachel Maddcow 3 to 1.
@Z: I think ALL the cables are jacking us all around just for ads..............stirring the pot, screaming in ways that get us riled up, too.
Bingo! You nailed it, as usual.
MSNBC's numbers, though pathetically anemic, are not surprising. There are a lot of leftwing fringie wackadoodles out there. Remember, Obama got elected, twice.
"I think ALL the cables are jacking us all around just for ads..............stirring the pot, screaming in ways that get us riled up, too."
Yup. That's their business model, all of them.
As I've been painting my basement and having the news on in the background, I've been happy to see CNN doing an admirable job of taking the Administration to task over the ACA. CNN is generally mediocre at reporting, and follows the same business model as above, but with less sscreeching to a particular choir.
FROM Z OF GEEEZ:
Silverfiddle, thanks...
CI...I couldn't agree with you more.
I think the analysis should be focused on the quality of the reporting.
And in the end it's all bought and paid for. I don't care whether it's Fox or CNN, if cable is your primary source of news than you are woefully uninformed.
Duck: What defines "Quality of reporting?".
Does POV/bias count?
Well spoken, written. researched?
Is it quality if it's balanced?
If one were reporting on Auschwitz, would quality demand hearing Hitler's viewpoint (as an extreme example)?
This is not an attack on what Duck said, just wondering what the consensus would be.
Well Ed, I have some experience in documentaries and it's absolutely impossible to make a compelling film without an established POV.
It's present in everything.
However, when it turns into an editorial shouting match (where Kelly excels) then don't pass it off as reporting. Do the best you can (and it's never completely possible) to demarcate editorial and reporting.
With all the money poured into TV news it has become nearly impossible.
You can understand Auschwitz without understanding Hitler?
Triumph of the Will may be a better example. Frighteningly good propaganda. I struggle with the idea of the appropriate time to study it but I believe it's important to understand its techniques.
... as for reporting on Auschwitz. Problem was that nobody reported on it.
You can find much less extreme examples right now. Who's reprting on the ruling reinstating stop and frisk in NYC. If it's being reported on cable I expect it to be cursory.
Anyone report on the nature of the policies being withdrawn by insures. Is the nature and history these extremely low coverage, low value policies being discussed? No, people would much rather pursue the hate Obama agenda than talk about the state of health insurance in America.
Our news media are largely broken.
I agree the news media is broken. I don't want to hear opinion; I'd much rather journalists provide me with the unvarnished facts surrounding who, what, when, where, how, and why; I can supply my own opinions.
Of course, by keeping everyone at each other's throats, the media guarantees for themselves a substantial income. And I think this goes far beyond politics, which makes sense when you understand that the majority stockholder of Fox News is a member of the Saudi Royal family. We are all suckers …
Side note: I wonder why so many of the talking heads on Fox are former lawyers …
"people would much rather pursue the hate Obama agenda"
Well, it's about time! What took so long?
... as for reporting on Auschwitz. Problem was that nobody reported on it.
You're the one holding gyges cloak, duckman. Benghazi is but one instance.
Comparing Benghazi and Auschwitz, Farmer?
Keep going and make a bigger fool of yourself.
Just goes to show there lots dummies out there willing to buy the crap from the corporate right to screw themselves.
Liberals don't have to watch or listen to shows to reinforced their shallow low intelligent lies with hate. lie and fear.
And by the way, for those of you who still need their Benghazi binkies....
Report: Benghazi witness was nowhere near diplomatic compound during terrorist attack
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/11/01/report-benghazi-witness-was-nowhere-near-diplomatic-compound-during-terrorist-attack/
Duck: Good points, but documentaries as a type of reporting, are much more in depth than a news report.
So an interview with a maniacal killer might be reasonable then.
With a nightly news report, it might be fair to say, "Maniacal Killer slays millions." and move on. The POV is established with the description, but not necessarily bad reporting. Hitler might disagree.
"However, when it turns into an editorial shouting match (where Kelly excels)". I haven't seen that from her. Hannity, yeah.
I saw her ask a simple question last night of a buffoon congress critter who just laughed and repeated the party talking point over and over, refusing to answer.
I kept hoping she'd tell him off and cut him off, but she just smiled and persevered.
Often, watching the Fox lineup, after Bret Baer, is watching the the same story, different talking head.
But I don't see the sycophantic behavior to Obama that other networks have displayed.
Duck: Please don't repeat the party line that the policies were inferior and needed killing.
I've heard too many first hand reports elsewise.
From Z of GEEEZ:
I Don't mind hearing opinion if I know it's opinion. I also don't mind two opinions offering their opinions in dignified, hear-able ways.
Krauthammer, for example, is an opinion I would like to hear on almost any subject.
Bolton's opinion is interesting in regard to foreign affairs.
Cavuto's and Baher and a few others' opinions I value because they're smart and thoughtful.
I also don't mind liberal points of view when given AS a point of view and not THE TRUTH.
I could always listen to CHristopher Hitchens...met him, heard him in person; marvelous.
( and a hell of a kind man, by the way...I've told that story here)
I don't even mind listening to Carville from time to time.
Alan Colmes..? NEVER EVER. A HACK and a jerk, though I hear he's a very nice guy.
Matthews? No more.
etc
Personally, I’m appalled by the lack of skill among these so-called journalists, to ask hard-hitting questions, and demand straightforward answers. I have lost count of the number of times when government officials and members of congress were asked a question, and successfully dodged answering it. The master-avoider, IMO is Hillary Clinton … and then once she begins her spin, she goes on ad infinitum to make sure that there is not enough time for a follow up. It seems to me that the journalists themselves prefer the kinds of answers most suitable for sound-bites and bumper stickers.
Is one News Until You Barf concern any worse than another? No.
Yes, Z ... we should not object to opinion on a "commentary" segment; but they should not confuse actual facts with what is really a compendium of partisan opinion. Even when one’s opinion follows a logical path from facts presented, it is still opinion. Too many Americans are incapable of distinguishing between the two.
From Z of GEEEEZ:
Yes, there are compendiums of partisan opinion and, giving by enough people, one could believe there are actually diffing opinions and a worthwhile thing to listen to!
The problem is, it seems like there IS no distinguishing anymore; almost as if there ARE no 'facts' anymore. Everyone's so intent on WHAT THEY KNOW and WHAT THEY SEE.
Man, it's like there literally isn't A FACT anymore!
SAM: there have been times when a lefty's responded to a conservative interviewer with a total LIE and it drives me NUTS when the interviewer just keeps on his/her own tack and doesn't say "Wait, what you said was just plain WRONG!" That happens a LOT and I feel like I want to dive thru the TV screen and grab the person by the neck and say "do you know the real thing that happened is.....this?"!!
I mean, SOMETIMES, there are facts but...!!
ah, well.........America's never been in so much trouble..
And this division in cable TV news is a good metaphor for the whole enchilada.
Comparing Benghazi and Auschwitz, Farmer?
You Bet. No American's Died in Auschwitz. Yet the US media STILL hasn't "uncovered" Benghazi.
Report: Benghazi witness was nowhere near diplomatic compound during terrorist attack.
Because Obama issued a STAND-DOWN order.
The president WANTED Americans to DIE... w/o any annoying "witnesses".
Joe, the view that Obama wanted Americans to die is as idiotic as the view, given by extremist liberals that President Bush wanted American soldiers to die in Iraq and Afghanistan.
As the Code Pink and Cyndy Sheehan lefties were disgusting in holding those views of GW Bush, so are conservatives who hold those views of our current president.
If people, from both sides really believe those views, we are, as many have said here many times, screwed.
I do not believe that any president wants to kill Americans; I do believe that we have individuals serving at the highest levels of government who value their own political career, their legacy, more than they do honesty and transparency. People who are willing to go to any length to cover up their own incompetence. Frankly, I don’t know which of these is worse.
Robert,
" I do believe that we have individuals serving at the highest levels of government who value their own political career, their legacy,"
Bank on it!
The 2nd 2 last time I watched some CNN, my opinion was that it was bare bones budget and there weer two young women talking gossip opinion, not news, at the intelligence level of a couple high school girls.
I know this isn't representative of all their stuff.
The last time I watched, last weekend for an hour, I was in a Toyota service waiting area - last free oil change for new vehicles.
They had a hipster type chick arguing for obammycare, and a scruffy looking young guy arguing against. All the dialogue was superficial at best, did not address obvious horror problems with oblammycare and I'm sure left most viewers with the impression that "Well, I heard both sides of this issue and I've made up MY mind that oblammycare isn't that bad at all and there's just a few glitches to iron out and bla bla bla." That's what all the "news" does in my opinion. It Doesn't inform. It plays this kindergarten game of let's pretend to inform.
Yea, it's divisive. It's profit motivated, not information motivated and let's be honest, if the news was offering up real information about events today, it would be shunned just as Michael Savage is mostly shunned. MS is the closest thing to reality information I've heard in a long long time. He went on TV on his own show once. Cancelled before the 1st show was over.
Last I heard O'Reily recently said 'Well, obama didn't actually LIE about obamacare..." Yea, Ok Bill.
The news is a joke. I don't watch.
Wake me up when someone reports on how hilrod clinton (and the obama administration) was running guns to al queerda and Ambassador Stevens was setup for a brutal murder at the hands of the most vile vermin on the face of the Earth.
Duck, "And in the end it's all bought and paid for. I don't care whether it's Fox or CNN, if cable is your primary source of news than you are woefully uninformed."
Good Lord man, we agree.
I want to make note that "The Game" must be kept as the Red vs the Blue in America, so that support is grows and the money flows for either political party which happen to be the same but look a little different.
This game will keep us locked in our cells, fighting with each other while the entire political body picks us apart like road kill surrounded by vultures.
Mustang, and may I add that most politicians are former Failed lawyers. Most of them couldn't think their way out of a paper bag.
It would be hilarious if it was funny.

Watch out, Dude, It's a trap!
@Ed, How about CNN reporting a month or so ago about the black college men who walked into an OPEN store, found no one there, so got what they needed and left money plus tax on the countre when they left.
CNN reported it as Honest Burglers!
(So they're black they must be considered burglers)
Shocking that they Left Money on the Counter!
(ditto)
And they Actually Left the Tax!
(black people are stupid don't ya know, how they manage to figure the tax amount)
Yet CNN is one of the flagships for eliminating racism in America right? Riiiiight.
Bob, Could be a trap. :)
It's worse than that, bob.
I've agreed with mustang a couple times in the last few days.
Hey Ducky,
I've seen your apparent crude and pejorative reference to :"Farmer". Do you have some adverse opinion of the people that produce your food? Do you not understand that Farmers have a lot more to offer to this society than you have ever thought about? A successful "Farmer" must know about but not be limited to: economics, agronomy, mechanics, meteorology, biology and a host of other disciplines too numerous to mention. What do you contribute? BTW, I'm not a Farmer but I sure appreciate what they do!
It must be somewhat agonizing to someone who has advocated for the Fraud-in-Chief to find out that he is nothing but a consummate liar (now totally exposed) and now to have to work your way through the "cognitive dissonance" that you must be enduring.
I wonder if you will continue your BS that nobody cares about?
I don't think Obama wanted anybody to die...why would he?
I do think there was something else going on behind the scenes and we may never know what it was...and the WH is trying to get people to stay quiet about the whole horrible incident.
but people DID DIE.
I also feel Fast and Furious is worse than most Americans think it is because they don't know the facts one can find if one digs only a little into it.
People DID DIE
One can only think Obama's got really inexperienced, really bad people at the WH and people are dying because they don't know what they're DOING.
So, no, he doesn't WANT Americans to DIE...........but.........he's doing a bad job of making sure they don't.
