Thanksgiving...I just added a little at the bottom; please take a look.

I wish you a very, very Happy Thanksgiving.
A lot of you have read my past Thanksgiving posts over the last 7 years or so, like...HERE.... and my personal favorite, HERE.  I hope you read them!

Today, I decided just to kind of, hopefully, make your day with some very cool quotes we could all benefit from knowing:

- "The trouble with most of us is we'd rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism."  Norman Vincent Peale

- "You don't have to be great to get started but you have to get started to be great."  Les Brown

- "Try not to become a man of success; but rather a man of value."  Albert Einstein

....and one we could all be better for at all our blogs:

"It is the mark of an educated man to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."  Aristotle

What do you think?  Have a favorite?  While you're taking a break from cooking, or you haven't gone to your host's yet, or your wife's in the kitchen making the house smell good and you've got some time, let's talk about these wonderful quotes instead of DREADFUL POLITICS and what's happening to our country.

On this Thanksgiving, I especially want to thank ALL OF YOU who drop by here though my full time job's made me so lazy about getting to all of your blogs like I used to.  I appreciate you ALL SO MUCH; your hearts, your patriotism, your loyalty, your curiosity, your knowledge, and your friendship.

God bless you and keep you and may God bless America.  Whether you're a religious sort of not, please say a prayer today in gratitude for our country and for your friends and family. It could help.
you.

Please check out Bloviating Zeppelin's site HERE...it's got great cartoons like the one I just added here with the soldier 'at the table'...and HERE is the funniest Thanksgiving post I've seen..at Ed Bonderanka's blog...enjoy!

"Gratitude transforms the torment of memory into silent joy."  Dietrich Boenhoffer.

See this essay at The Patriot Post:

...The earliest record of a thanksgiving in America is 1541 by Spanish explorer Coronado at Palo Duro Canyon in what is now Texas. French Protestant colonists at Charlesfort (now Parris Island, South Carolina) held a thanksgiving service in 1564. In 1607, the Jamestown settlers held thanksgiving at Cape Henry, Virginia, and there are many other records of such hallowed observances.

The first call for an annual Thanksgiving was at Berkeley Plantation, Virginia, in 1619, when Captain John Woodlief and 38 settlers aboard the ship Margaret, proclaimed, "Wee ordaine that the day of our ships arrivall at the place assigned for plantacion in the land of Virginia shall be yearly and perpetually keept holy as a day of thanksgiving to to Almighty God."...

Lessons such as the above are avoided in public schools all over the United States!

A blessed Thanksgiving to Z and to all who visit Z's blog site!

Happy Thanksgiving my friends! As you carve open that Turkey at your feast today, remember, that Turkey gave its life so you could have dinner. (sorry for that one)
What are you Thankful for on this thanksgiving day?
What Thanksgiving means to me.
Thanksgiving is not a typically American holiday, it’s a very special one. In spite of its religious form (giving thanks to God for a good harvest), its essential, secular meaning is a celebration of successful production. It is a producers’ holiday. The lavish meal is a symbol of the fact that abundant consumption is the result and reward of production. Abundance is (or was and ought to be) America’s pride—just as it is the pride of American parents that their children need never know starvation.
But this special Holiday makes you think of whom should we thank on this Thanksgiving day?
All of those who, down through the centuries, have advanced civilization by means of their productive achievements. For it is they who allow us to live in the luxuriant world of the twenty-first century.
No seriously though, Please take this time to rejoice over what you have been blessed with, and then take the time to be thankful for it! Thanksgiving is a time to be with your family and friends, whether they be big or small.
First and foremost, I am thankful for my healthy and happy family.
I am thankful for a wife and children I love and cherish, and who loves and cherishes me. I am thankful for our cup that never seems to be on empty. I am thankful for this Great Nation of ours and those who have served and others that gave the ultimate sacrifice that we might enjoy the liberties and freedom we have. I am Thankful that I was able to serve my country for the years that I had. I am thankful that I live in a country where every American man and woman are able to say whatever they want to, with out the fear of repercussions.
I am thankful for being lucky enough to have a good life, live a fine home and have a adorable cat. I am thankful for everything in life we have worked very hard for giving us the ability to do what we enjoy doing. And that is just a start....
What will or are you thankful for this coming thanksgiving day? From this Templar to all his friends, have a bountiful and blessed Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all. And just one after thought to our dear leader...
Just like all the other tyrants, you'll be gone soon as well Mr. Obama.

To my Conservative friends, Fight 'em 'til hell freezes over, then fight 'em on the ice.

And to our Liberal/Progressive "friends"
I leave you with this thought...
Remember that you are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.

I am thankful for my internet friends, some of them here I've known for years!

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving, Z!

Just saying, I'm new here and it seems that the only people that want to sling mud at the other guy's party are the Progressives and the liberal pinheads.
I Don't Care Who Or What You, Think, Support, or Who You Thank. It Is Thanksgiving.
And If Nothing Else … Just Be Thankful, That You Are Free, Have The Freedoms We American's Have and Fought for, and that many of us Died for. Be Thankful that You Have Another Day And Have Made It This Far in this "NEW" America!!

This Thanksgiving weekend I'll be thinking about all the blessings in my life while enjoying a turkey dinner with my family. My question to the American Liberals, Progressives, and yes the folks who still call themselves Democrats, is will you ALL be eating CROW for Thanksgiving, instead of Turkey after the disastrous year that your “President”, “Leader” “Messiah”, I would think that by this time, any illusion that you may have had about Mr. Obama being some kind of modern-day Messiah has melted away by now, with his botched vision of Obamacare along with his Lies...

And for Dessert, may I suggest some fresh Humble Pie!
Happy Thanksgiving to all my Conservative, Republican, Liberal, and non-political readers, and commenter’s here on these blogs. From all of our squabbling, I have learned a lot here and have gained a little from listening to others point of view.

Hope all of you guys and your families have a great holiday. Have a Great dinner, Be safe & happy, and don’t forget to Give Thanks to our Troops before carving a turkey at dinner.

Hey!

I'm really thankful right this minute!

The bubble in my eye vanished at 8:00 A.M. today!

The whole visual field is back. Distorted a bit, but BACK!

Z said...

AOW, I'm so glad about your eye! What a great Thanksgiving gift to us all, to know you're so much better.
Hurrah!!!

And thanks for that information our public school children don't hear.
My heart breaks. But, don't worry, they learn how badly we treated the Indians (oops...NATIVE AMERICANS. sorry :-( ) (smile)

TemplarKormac...thank you for those great reminders of America and why we give thanks. I'll overlook the turkey joke!! heh heh!

Bunkerville...same to you! I need to try to comment at your place again...having trouble!

Remember Ben Gazi...then why anonymous, if you've known us for years? whatever...have a GREAT DAY!

Thersites, same to YOU!

just saying...thanks.

Mustang. I definitely share your sentiment!
And thanks for all you do at GeeeZ: i am so grateful.

This is something that I've been thinking about the past few years. Anyway, with much of our population coming to this country in a very different way then "the pilgrims", is it time to do away with Thanksgiving and come up with a more inclusive holiday to celebrate what amounts to the origins of this country? I mean Thanksgiving is really just a holiday for Americans.
I wish liberals would stop making everything political and looking for fault everywhere. I've never seen people try so hard to be offended.
Either you appreciate this day and spend it giving thanks to what you have or you don't. If you don't, fine, but don't try to bring others down.

Heck, Obama is encouraging people to spend the day lecturing family members to get Obamacare. I know nothing is sacred to libs, except their agenda, but come on, get real.

By the way, I will spend today with my family and some friends, one immigrant from Germany and two from Cambodia. They are sure thankful to be legal Americans citizens now and it'll be a pleasure to enjoy the day with them. Or should I tell two of my friends that since they aren't white, they should sit home and complain today?

It's insanity when libs cannot recognize that not all American's think alike. The racism from the left gets so old.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL.

Z said...

It's My Secret...WHAT?
I can't tell if you mean it about Thanksgiving, or you're quoting a lib.

I haven't seen liberals dissing Thanksgiving..have you?
have a good day.

Z, I've seen them Politicizing Thanksgiving on many blogs this morning.
Lets call a truce for at least one day.
Even Obama suggested that we discuss immigration reform and Obamacare at our holiday tables, can you believe that!
Maybe he figures that will take the heat off of what he did with Iran.

It's my Secret: That's really sad. I hadn't seen any of those on the conservative blogs...just some of THE greatest blog posts EVER (some of which I linked at the bottom of mine a few hours after I'd done mine).

You're right; even the President asks us to politicize. You'd THINK the very last thing he'd want is for Americans to talk about this healthcare fiasco. Honestly, even in liberal West L.A., at the doc's yesterday in the elevator, some stranger said something about health care, and I said "Well, we don't know..with Obama..!" and she said "OH, man, you've got THAT right"
THAT NEVER happens in West LA!
He WANTS folks to bemoan having lost their policies or are paying MORE now because of him? :-)

Hi KP and Rita...same to you!

SOMETHING I JUST SAW ON LOCAL TV:

There is a Honda Center in LA where they're going to have served 15,000 free THanksgiving meals today.
This was apparently started by a Mr. Garcia (thick accent) 27 years ago and they served 300 people, and it's grown to 15000 today!

Every volunteer TV interviewed(HUNDREDS of them have been there cooking since 4:30 AM) had a Hispanic surname....most spoke without accents so they're legal and loving Americans.
They ALL said they felt great helping out and Mr. Garcia said "We should offer our next door neighbors a plate, too..you never know who's not eating...if we did this over the world, nobody'd be hungry"
I wanted to reach through the TV and HUG him.

THese are REAL AMERICANS of good immigrant families (like MINE, dare I say! and maybe yours? I'm first generation on Mom's side and second on my dad's) who honor our American holiday, help other Americans, and work hard in doing so.

Something we can all learn from, and remember, when we slam immigrants.
They are NOT all illegal, they are NOT all on the dole.
God bless these true American immigrants who came here for what we had to offer and are offering even MORE in return.

These are great thoughts, Z. I especially liked the emphasis on being a man of value (Einstein). May I share a parallel one from Noah Webster? "The virtues of men are of more consequence to society than their abilities; and for this reason, the heart should be cultivated with more assiduity than the head."

Thanks for the links to BZ and EB's sites today. My Bayside and I enjoyed them all!

I heard that the only reason Obama pardoned the turkey this year is that Obama thought he was a Muslim.

Okay so anyway, Happy Thanksgiving Everyone (except politicians)

AOW, weren't those grand?

I just loved the cartoons (particularly the one I stole for here) and Ed's was SO SO FUNNY!

Baysider..glad you enjoyed them.
That's, of course, a terrific quote, too. Sadly, the only character we're teaching our children in schools today is the entitlement character :-(
Happy Thanksgiving.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving today. We were with family, the first Thanksgiving day in 17 years when hubby did not work the ER. This will also be the first Christmas Day that he isn't working the ER. He always worked in years past so that those with small children could have the days off.

Aristotle has a lot of Great stuff.

You know the problem with fantastic quotes and knowledge like that is you have to be smart in the first place to appreciate it.

And yes, there is almost always much to be thankful for.

Kid said...

Great News AOW. :)

So, yea, I like the Aristotle quote.

Said another way "See both sides, Always See both sides. You may choose to ignore the other side but see it."

Or "Dumb people think they know everything. Smart people know there is much they don't know".

And why? These quotes seem to be at the center of life today. To me anyway. I think about them often as I observe and run into idiots just about every day.

SOME Z FAMILY NEWS:

My sister suddenly reminded the 25 or so of us at my aunt and uncle's tonight (pictures of food to follow, as is the GeeeZ custom! :-) ) that THIS YEAR IS THE 100TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF MY 9 YR OLD GRANDFATHER'S ARRIVAL IN AMERICA FROM TURKEY (ARMENIAN TURKEY)...

AND, the cool thing is that his first two great GREAT grandsons were born in this 100th year... I love that.

Got to meet my two new great nephews tonight... they are so precious! ...delicious!

Even more delicious than the amazing dinner!

Rita said...

I was just about to ask if you were going to post some of the beautiful food pics again this year. I always love seeing them, even though my family's TDay pics are absolutely chaotic with paper plate, Tupperware bowls and dishing right from the stove.

We gathered at my mother's small house, over 20 of us. That means hardly anyone eats in the kitchen because it's filled with food. There are folding tables, TV trays, people eating on the couches. If someone gets up to get a refill, it's likely you won't find your seat still empty and waiting for you when you get back.

And on Thanksgiving remember all the wealthy corporatists who are languishing today with their families while their employees at the Walmarts and the Targets, etc. are working for minimum wage to feed their families so others (who spite those with less than them and may be getting assistance-free handouts) can shop and hate those who are only one step in the economic ladder away from themselves.

All hail the Rothchilds!
