Thanksgiving Thankfulness

The message in quotes below is from JESUS CALLING, by Sarah Young.  I highly recommend it and, because it's Thanksgiving, I thought I'd share this with you today and I hope it's something that will help some of you today and always.......:
"Thankfulness takes the sting out of adversity.  That is why I (*Jesus) have instructed you to give thanks for everything.  There is an element of mystery in this transaction:  You give Me thanks (regardless of your feelings), and I give you Joy (regardless of your circumstances).  This is a spiritual act of obedience-at times, blind obedience.  To people who don't know Me intimately, it can seem irrational and even impossible to thank Me for heartrending hardships. Nonetheless, those who obey Me in this way are invariably blessed, even though difficulties may remain.

Thankfulness opens your heart to My Presence and your mind to My thoughts.  You may still be in the same place, with the same set of circumstances, but it is as if a light has been switched on, enabling you to see from My perspective.  It is this Light of My Presence that removes the sting from adversity." *Love, Jesus.

"O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever." Psalm 118:1

"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports... And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion."  George Washington, another prophet.  Please see a great article on the history of Thanksgiving at Debbie's Blog, Right Truth.

Have a wonderful day........Have a delicious meal............give thanks to God.....for everything.
Love, Z

Sometimes adversity, along with emotional and physical exhaustion, does make it so very difficult to talk with the Lord. **sigh**

That is really nice Z.

I like that.

Kind of like:

'Do Unto Others As You Would Have Then Do Unto You.'

AOW, that's just the time we need to, when we SO don't feel up to it, right? And then, when we do, the peace is unexplainable.."passes all understanding!"

Sue...well, I guess one could see it that way.
I'm glad you like the post.

Sue, I just realized I forgot to add "Love, Jesus" at the end, as it's written in the devotional...and to use His name in the beginning of the piece so readers got that.
That's why I was a little surprised that you compared it with "Do Unto Others.." It's way huger than that if you know the context. SOrry.
The author of the book is a woman who went through great diversity and has terrible health problems and began to write one day and felt moved to keep writing...and writing......and she felt it was coming from Him.
Whatever it is, it's an amazing collection of uplifting, really loving and inspiring devotionals including Scripture that goes with it and it's an extremely popular book now.

The Sarah Young piece reminds me of The Jesus Christ Show

Neil Saavedra takes on the persona of Jesus and hosts a three hour radio show every Sunday. He's a well studied man and the program is interesting and often very moving.

Happy Thanksgiving to Z and all the fans of Z.

I'm grateful to live in the greatest country even with all the current challenges.

thanks, everybody...
Silverfiddle, I hate the name of that show but hear it's not at all irreverent...Got to give it a listen. I listened once for five minutes and I think I chose the wrong five minutes!

I hope some of you read down the whole post to the Geo. Washington quote..I swear some of our founding fathers were prophets...and smarter than anybody we've got even NEAR Washington these days.

Z - I hope your Thanksgiving was great.

My daughter and I managed to put together a first rate meal.

Sue, our celebration begins about 4:00 in Bel Air, just up the hills from me so it's a short, easy and beautiful drive.
It's only almost 1:30 here now! So cereal/milk were lunch in preparation for a BIG DELICIOUS DINNER!!

I'm glad you had a great meal!

Z: If you don't know where they guy is coming from, "The Jesus Christ Show" can be off-putting. But it's no different than what Sarah Young or the person who wrote "Footsteps in the Sand" have done, putting words in God's mouth.

From what I've heard anecdotally, his show attracts many who have strayed from their faith for some reason or those who have some kind of grudge or are repelled by establishment Christianity. If his show leads those people to Christ, it can't be bad.

I have never heard him say anything un-Biblical, but I only catch snippets of the show.

Z - Then I hope you have a great time.

I just had a different sort of leftover Thanksgiving snack -

the rest of my scallops. :)

We have a lot to be thankful for, that which we know of. We also have a lot more to be thankful for, that which we don't know that the Lord has done for us.

i'm off for a break, have a wonderful Christmas Z and family.

Z, you are completely correct. Belonging to a church has been proven to lower blood pressure, among other benefits. It's not just about praying, but the fellowship of being together and being able to lean on each other when necessary.

The act of being thankful takes us out of our tendency toward pessimism and forces us to focus on the blessings we have in life. That is also a ticket to living better--optimism.

If you read Sarah Young's Introduction, you wouldn't put it that way, but it does look like that, doesn't it.
I'm not saying Christ talked through her, neither is she, but some pretty amazing stuff happened to her while writing....
I balked when a friend gave me a similar book and still balk when I pick it up...."God talking through someone" but the JESUS CALLING book is special; if it's just Sarah Young writing, it's VERY special.

Ducky hates the fact that people can go to WalMart and buy whatever they want. He believes that they should be forced to stand in lines at the State store for empty shelves and stale bread and forced to buy and watch really bad foreign films. Cornocopia is the "horn of plenty". Let's give thanks for it while we STILL have it! Ducky can still buy those really bad films under our economic system. We can't get a copy of "Finding Nemo" under his...

And you have an iPod, one of the biggest symbols of consumerism and capitalism, and I don't.

You don't have the monopoly over the content of your anti-capitalistic morality, phony!

A lot of people just don't know the effect George Washington had on this nation. Without him as an individual and leader this nation would have never been born.

His intellect, courage, persistence, and faith kept him on a singular path to keep hopes, and an army, alive long enough to take advantage of historical opportunities.

There are other great men in American history that stand out, and many who managed heroic acts, but none stand out with the personal courage and effectiveness as George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln.

Uh, that was probably off topic.

Z said...

Bob "Off topic"?? We FINALLY got back ON TOPIC and I thank you for even noticing the Geo Washington quote which I thought was prescient and outstanding!

Yes, we need another George Washington TODAY...but the libs would dig out that he had a speeding ticket 30 years ago or jay walked once or overdrew on his checking account when he was 24 and that would be it.

In what I think almost all Americans would call “odd,” President Barack Obama delivered his weekly address with a speech entitled: “On Thanksgiving, Grateful for the Men and Women Who Defend Our Country.”

In the text of his speech, he referred to Thanksgiving as a “celebration of community.”

Holy cow! Is that one screwed up view or what

Laura: You are ahead of the news. Now, we understand what a community organizer is. He is a Communist organizer.
