I've got a picture like that, of me on a balcony in Madrid. Great story, but I think SftAP may be missing a certain Judeo-Christian value that the parents are imparting to those adopted kids. The freedom to make choices, even bad ones.
FJ...I just read it again and don't see your point?
Sorry. These parents who adopt seem to all take great pains to ensure that their adopted kids gain an education and insights into their native cultures. The children can choose to either embrace it OR 'adopt' the American culture of their parents. Like Eve being offered a bite from the tree of knowledge of good & evil except the child get to decide which wilderness it wishes to be banished to.
...and I suppose, I'm addressing the NY Times article as much as SftAP's commentary upon it.
z,
Thanks for the plug!
