Would We?
Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day and on July 4, I celebrate America’s. This year is special for it marks the fortieth anniversary of my independence.
On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months later I was in the USA to stay.
I thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s most Cubans needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.
When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said “Praise the Lord.” And when the young leader said, “I will be for change and I will bring you change,“ everyone yelled, “Viva Fidel.”
But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner’s guns went silent, the people’s guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time change was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down … to third world status. By the time change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts and inner tubes. … And now I’m back to the beginning of my story.
Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, “What Change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?”

***I had rec'd this as an email yesterday with no attribution. I just called the North Carolina paper to make sure it was real and they had checked it out before publishing. Thanks to Free Thinker (FT) and my friend Betty for getting this to me. Please send this to your email buddies. Check this out, then ask yourself why I Googled CHE GUEVARA POSTER OBAMA CAMPAIGN OFFICES and didn't get that picture we all saw when it was found out that there was a Che poster on the wall in the Houston Obama office. If someone can find it, let me know. thanks.

excellent post, Z.
Puts things in immediate perspective.
It was our local Fox News Houston station that did the story of the campaign hdqtrs opening and stumbled on the Che poster on the wall. I searched their web site but it's not there now. It's probably been scrubbed, like lots of stuff on the national Obama web sites.
Oh, yes, Karen..SCRUBBED BIG TIME>
This information was THERE and now it's NOT.
Pelosi and Google aren't waiting for their FAIRNESS DOCTRINE to be signed..they're starting UNFAIRNESS NOW.
You can't BELIEVE how much information I can't find anymore..and ALL on the conservative side. I had wonderful articles re: Lord Monckton, the guy who won the Nobel with Gore re: Global change but now believes it is NOT caused by humans!... ALL those articles are GONE, you can barely Google him and then his most important information saying he's now NOT supporting Gore on Global climate change being humanly caused are NOT AVAILABLE!!
This is so poignant...........and scary.
pops...not if you love black beans and rice with crispy pork and plaintains.mmm
scary, it is. Absolutely. I have to joke or I'll cry.
From the mouth of someone who knows the price of believing lies. Castro actually first came out saying he was a socialist and then once in power, guess what, I'm a commie.
By the way, I have the Obama/Che poster on my blog.

Can't scrub it from my blog..
hehe..
Was it one of these?
Wanna watch the vid?
Great letter. You keep thinking Americans wouldn't fall for something like this but...
As far as Google, Z, am I not the only one noticing that when researching for my blog I come up with pro-Obama hits, no matter what the search string is. I can put a string in on poilitcs that has nothing to do with Obama, his name not mentioned, and I come up with Obama articles. Must be broken, huh?
Chuck..."broken"? Yup. MUST be (heh heh)
Did you know that Front Page Magazine has lost at least 1/4 of its normal commenters? The regulars are there and that's it....Someone pointed out to me that the article hit words used to come up on Google...they don't direct to FPM anymore. I was shocked because I didn't know that any American company would resort to QUITE this type of Brown Shirt action.
only liberals, right?
Funny, I drive in LA and see only Obama bumper stickers..I realized that I know many mcCain supporters but I believe we're all afraid. WE won't key Obama cars...but we are AFRAID of them.
Hey, Chuck....Google DEMOCRAT IMAGES and REPUBLICAN IMAGES...check it out.
See the bias..it's UNreal.
INCOGNITO..YOu've got it! GREAT!
But IMAGINE I couldn't GOOGLE it? NOPE..nothing ..and it WAS in the news, I SAW the pix. GONO.
Were you able to track down a link to the source?
No, I just talked to the editor's office and they know that it's real...that's all, Wordsmith! I wish I did have more on it.
Z, I have only seen one Obama bumper sticker in my neck of the woods. Quite a difference 20 miles makes huh? Of course the year is only half over.
I remember as a teen, watching on TV, Castro's triumphant entrance into Havana to cheering throngs of Cubans.
Americans were delighted as well, but not for long. The news of executions and imprisonments was not too far behind.
I guess the old saying, "be careful what you wish for"......certainly applied, and indeed applies today. Usually, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. It's always wise to be cautious.

Z, I did what you said, googled Repub and Dim images, incredible. Does anyone know of a decent search engine? We need to try to stop using them, the power of commerce.
Good post Z, and right now too many Americans are not asking tough questions. Questions they'll have to ask at some point because they cannot be avoided.
That's a chilling comparison, z. And I don't believe it's in the least bit an exaggeration. From what we know of Obama already, there is every reason in the world to believe he could be America's Castro if elected, Heaven forbid.
I won’t touch the ludicrous Obama/Castro comparison further. But I will take the premise in a different direction. I am no fan of Castro or his policies but let’s take a further look at the 1950s Cuba/present-day United States comparison:
People wanted change in Cuba in the 1950’s because:
•They had suffered for almost a decade under a corrupt dictator, Fulgencio Batista, who had won a rigged election to become President
•The President had suspended constitutional guarantees
•The President ensured his cronies grew rich while the poor stayed poor
•Under this President, the conditions of the middle class deteriorated
•The President was supported by large amounts of cash from American corporations
Hmmm…By the logic of the original writer, Castro is to Obama as Batista is to B____.
(That’s “Bush” for those of you who did poorly on the SAT.)
Like I said, such comparisons are ludicrous.
Anonymous, if they were ludicrous, we'd not discuss them.
We don't believe AMerica will do better under a Castro-like regime of taking from the rich to give to the poor..Anyone who does doesn't really know Americans.
Most of your points were caused by a congress liberals elected...blame them. Bush is not blameless, but that 'Cronies rich' and 'shrinking middle class' is garbage.
We're not going to agree with liberals, we love the founding fathers' visions for this country too much, but thanks for being here and trying.
The liberals control much of the information that we come across, whether it be the MSM or Google. That's why they detest talk radio so much because, so far, they haven't been able to get their hooks into it.
Beware folks, the jackboot choking your throat more easily fits the left foot than the right.
Like I said, such comparisons are ludicrous.
The analogy only becomes ludicrous if one misses the point, and tries to draw absolute parallels to more than just the focused objective of drawing a comparison. Analogies, by nature, have inherent flaws.
In the last couple of weeks, Obama has been compared to Castro and Hitler, and the right believes that the left believes he is the second coming.
So let’s make a mad-lib out of it!
Directions: Fill in the blanks below and see if you can compare Obama to the following historical figures:
1) Lenin
2) Jesus Christ
3) Hitler
4) Joan of Arc
5) Napoleon
6) King Tut
7) John F. Kennedy
8) Teddy Roosevelt
9) Abraham Lincoln
10) The Buddha
11) Franklin Roosevelt
12) Fidel Castro
13) Michael Jordan
14) Bill Gates
15) Nelson Mandela
16) Martin Luther King
