HONORING a REAL HERO, Mike Monsoor

I don't know who wrote this, but I wanted to have it here on my blog. The funeral took place in October of 2006, but I hadn't heard about this and thought maybe you hadn't, either. And it's real important:

Navy Petty Officer Mike Monsoor MA2 (SEAL) Mike Monsoor, a Navy Seal, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously for jumping on a grenade in Iraq , giving his life to save his fellow SEALs.

During Mike Monsoor's funeral in San Diego, as his coffin was being moved from the hearse to the grave site at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, SEALs were lined up on both sides of the pallbearers route forming a column of twos, with the coffin moving up the center.

As Mike's coffin passed, each SEAL, having removed his gold Trident from his uniform, slapped it down embedding the Trident in the wooden coffin. The slaps were audible from across the cemetery; by the time the coffin arrived grave side, it looked as though it had a gold inlay from all the Tridents pinned to it. This was a fitting send-off for a warrior hero.

This should be front-page news instead of the crap we see every day. Since the media won't make this news, I choose to make it news by forwarding it onto you guys. I am proud of our military and the men and women who serve in it. They represent the highest and finest values of this country.

The military will always recognize the real heroes even if the media doesn't. He truly earned the respect he was given.

i read about this awhile back at fox - it is a very powerful attestation to the love of brothers. it was quite chilling seeing those fellow seals smack their medals upon his casket - there is a video with a small portion showing them performing this tradition of brotherhood - i didn't check your link so don't know.

if you don't have it, here it is - towards the end.

p.s. - watch the whole vid, you won't be sorry.

I did see the video, thanks, nanc!

Sorry if this had gone around before I started blogging, I had it sent to me today and just thought everyone should see it. With all that I see, if I hadn't seen it, I figured many hadn't, too.

GREAT man...who will live in our memories as the embodiment of courage forever.

don't be sorry - we all need to be reminded of the sacrifices that made it possible for u.s. to live as free human beings!

this story should be told at least once a month into the next millenium.

I've seen it too but there is no need to be sorry for helping us remember this great man. Thank you.

As far as the MSM, to Hell with them. I agree with shoprat, this brave man does not need them to make him what he is. They only deminish themselves by not recording the bravery of our men and women in the military.

Fort Rosecrans is a special place. When we lived there we would stop there as a family and read the CMH citations and thank God there were men like Mike.

It just IRKS me that the media doesn't pick up stories like this because THESE are the stories which remind Americans who we are...not the constant negativity we hear all the time.

As it is now, if you listen to media stories, every soldier is a potential wife killer, you all know that!

WE NEED OPTIMISM!

Pris suggested in an email to me just now tonight that McCain needs to harp on what America does WELL..that we help others, help our neighbor, believe in protecting our country, believe in lowering taxes to promote business, etc.. And he's not DOING IT!
I think she's right in suggesting that this could tip McCain over the top. He should highlight stories like Mike Monsoor's....

Has ANY of you heard Obama EVER say one glowing thing about America? nada.

Our media diminishes AMERICA by not talking about these wonderful stories......

z - it seems people thrive more on the sensational, caring less for what is real and what SHOULD be more near and dear to our hearts. precisely why i try to shield myself and family from network or reality television and remind them that when we compromise ourselves with garbage, we affect everything good.

of course the children fight us on it, but that's what children do - we have to present it to them in terms they can understand.

in the past, when they've been less than thankful, i'll have them watch a "feed the children" program or another ministerial program or a video like mikey's just to keep them grounded. they're fighting the flesh far more than i ever could.

I can barely get through that video.

And if I'm not mistaken, "Monsoor" is a MIDDLE EASTERN name.

That makes it all the more complicated, doesn't it?

I know! Monsoor is the last name of Lebanese friends of a friend of mine.........but, you know, my background/maiden name, is Armenian and I've never even been there...nor do I care to go, frankly, since neither of my own parents' relatives (none..ever)lived in what is now Armenia!

So........I think any guy who'd throw his body on a grenade to help Americans live can't be accused of any nefarious ANYTHING...how much more proof of love and patriotism can we ask for!?
