OREGON IS OFFERING PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE INSTEAD OF MEDICAL CARE to patients who can't afford treatment and turn to the state for help. Please read the underlined link.
Can you BELIEVE this? Does anybody think this is a GOOD idea? thanks, Jeff

have i told you lately how glad i am that you started a blog?
okay.
I'M GLAD YOU STARTED A BLOG!
ha!
you're definitely NOT a lazy blogger like myself - thankx for standing in the wings, z.
nanc.....it's not a lack of laziness that makes me put up stories, it's that I can't STOP! I see things and can't NOT put them up. I have no restraint! but thanks..
Pinky, we ARE going there. I hope we can stop. And soon.
Tiergartenstrasse-4, here we come.
Why can't leftists just go admire some turd sculptures and leave ethical standards alone?
I saw this and blogged on it about a month ago. I could not then and still cannot comprehend a mindset that would accept such a thing. Let's kill you because it's cheaper. The next logical step is for the left to decide you must die for society's sake.
z, this is a crucially important development. They're pushing for euthanasia right now in Australia. I believe that there are going to be euthanasia centers all over the world and old people will be subtly pushed towards that option while parents with children who have some sort of fatal illness will be able to 'make the decision for them'. The whole thing smacks of social engineering. Linking to you on this tomorrow night.
Most chronic illnesses could be more cheaply addressed via assisted suicide.
I'll wager that the same individuals who advocate the "euthanasia" of human beings pull out all the stops to save their beloved pets.
but heaven help us if we kill a terrorist right?..arg! Z, its enough to make ya craaaaaaazy!
Thanks for this blog Z, I saw this this am on Fox news and was horrified, thought about posting it myself.
I believe that this started with Roe v Wade and abortion in general. With abortion life was devalued, calling unborn babaies "parasites", etc. It is only a natural extension to Euthanasia.
womanhonorthyself, what if it's an old, terminally ill terrorist? This will present a quandry for the loony left. lol
Far gone in Oregon!
Shameful. And they consider themselves the compassionate ones.
Folks must have missed the last sentence in the article which says Oregon has agreed to pay for the chemotherapy.
Oregon voters have approved assisted suicide three times. Guess you conservatives kind of draw the line on states rights. Sort of like you do with gay marriage.
Care to allow states to vote on abortion Duhkkky?
Since when do you care duhkkky what individual voters think?
The PEOPLE of California voted to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
and in case you missed it the point here is not that Oregon has a doctor assisted suicide it's that the state decided to send people a letter offering them death rather than treatment.
duh
I haven't read the article yet, but I will. It is indeed frighening, yet coming, I'm sure.
My little granddaughter, whose photo you see on my blog, has cystic fibrosis, a fatal genetic illness which is very expensive to treat. What will happen to her?
Now with genetic testing of babies in the womb, few CF babies are being born...why? You know the answer.
This little girl brings so much joy to us. I'm not sure that my son and his wife will choose to have another because of the 1 in 4 chance of giving birth to another CFer, but they are making sure that she is living life to the fullest.
Sorry, this is a little off topic, but then again it isn't.
Thanks for your visits and for your blog here.
The problem with all the things that the left wants is that they ALWAYS progress to something else -- something bigger and darker until our society is nearly void of morals. So much of it boils down to the breaking down of strong families. Strong families build fences to teach their kids what is right and wrong only to have the left drive through them with bulldozers and then use government to mandate that the fences not be rebuilt. Sigh.
Nanc -- why do you think I've taken to calling Z the blog goddess? I have nothing but humble respect for our friend Z. She's great!
This is SO EVIL, it's beyond words, and even worse, IT'S HAPPENING HERE!
"Well, you're not worth the cost of your care, so why don't you just go die?"
Well, that's true, Elmer, that the state should not promote assisted suicide.
And you do get into a tricky area when it may be necessary for someone to know this possibility exists.
Barring the actual letter we don't know if Oregon was over the line or whether Fox was bloviating.
Ducky...it's what they originally SAID, nobody missed the last line. Nobody puts up an article they haven't read. We just always hope people grab the gist of the article. Feels to me like you pick and choose what supports your opinion and forget the rest. why?
Elbro exactly got it, ducky.
Beverly, your Ellie is SO beautiful...I urge EVERYONE to check out her pictures at your blog! The story is a beautiful one..there are always lessons to learn, aren't there. Sweets among the sadness.
Papa...I'm NO GODDESS, I am interested in TOO MANY THINGS and can't help myself from posting stuff I see. Plus, I work at the computer with Mr. Z so I'm here most of the day and can attack new stuff!! I thank you SO much, though....you can't imagine how good you and nanc always make me feel!! I rarely see an uninteresting blog and yours are up there with the best; I'm so proud of the conservatives in our corner of the blogosphere, aren't you?
Shoprat..I believe that IS what this article says, don't you!?
Aurora, thanks for linking and yes, social engineering at its worse.
AOW, there are people in jail longer for killing a dog than a person...how could this not have been next, right?
Brooke.....how do we STOP this trend, right?
Ducky, wait a minute. There are quotes from both sides, experts, AND the guy who had this happen.
What prompts you to think FOX is 'bloviating'? I am not an O'Reilly fan, so I hate that word, by the way!
I guess the tree huggers in Oregon want to play God.
z, I said that we don't know the nature of the letter.
If the letter suggested that he take the option of assisted suicide then my opinion is that it is completely over the line and should immediately be stopped.
If the letter mentioned assisted suicide it becomes a gray area.
You will also find that a lot of private insurance companies would not cover the treatment.
But, Ducky, some of us think just the thought of offering death to someone is unconscienable. Of course, that IS the Oregan State law... but don't YOU think it's a slippery slope?
Do we even want to OFFER the idea of DEATH? It almost brings tears to my eyes to think of someone so ill being apparently told it's cheaper to die than help him somehow, even if it means keeping him comfortable until a certain demise?
Z, This is an interesting and disturbing topic. I'm beginning to think everything is a slippery slope. It's all a matter of how long it takes to slide to the bottom.
As I read this the scene from Soylent Green popped into my mind.
Remember? Edward G Robinson decided he was getting old, and had been miserable long enough and opted to be euthanized.
And then, they ate him........

this is some pretty dangerous if not scary stuff!!!!
bad idea...bad..bad..bad
This is sick.
Read an article this evening on the British or Canandian Health Care system where they lay out this large monetary figure that they say are spending due to people's life style choices diseases, like smoking, drinking, obesity,. etc.
One can see where this is leading.
WVDOTTR
Yes, dottr, Orwell must be rolling over in his grave. He wrote a warning and no one paid heed.

I think everyone has missed a VIP point that glares out at me whenever this kind of issue comes up: The GOVERNMENT should have NOTHING whatsoever to say or do about the health care and lifestyle choices of individuals at ALL.
Medical care policies should be made between patients and their doctors strictly on a case by case basis. No one should be FORCED to accept treatment they may not want, and at the same time no one should have the right to DEMAND through courts and the legislatures that healthcare should be provided him (or her) at taxpayers' expense just because he or she happens to exist.
Acquiesce to Socialized Medicine, and you'll soon see the advent of the seven-thousand dollar hangnail removal bill, and the gradual decline and then the demise of quality medical practice in America.
And when I lose my mind and don't know who or what I am–––or if I am in agonizing pain with no reasonable hope of recovery–––I want OUT.
That should be MY right, but it should never arbitrarily be extended to YOU, if you think it noble and highly moral to embrace agony as though it were your Lord and Savior.
One size NEVER fits all.

FT.....the idea that someone who wants to live would be told he could be killed by the state cheaper than keeping him alive is repulsive. State-aid killing?
NO WAY.
My point once again:
••• "The GOVERNMENT should have NOTHING whatsoever to say or do about the health care and lifestyle choices of individuals at ALL." •••
