Is this title HELPFUL?

Suspected U.S. missile strike kills two in Pakistan

Mon Dec 15, 3:07 pm ET

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) – A suspected U.S. drone aircraft fired a missile into a house in Pakistan's North Waziristan region on the Afghan border on Monday, killing two people, Pakistani security agency officials said.

U.S. forces in Afghanistan, frustrated by a spreading Taliban insurgency that is getting support from militant enclaves in northwest Pakistan, have stepped up strikes by pilotless drones despite Pakistani objections.

There was no immediate information about the identity of the two people killed in the strike in the village of Tabi, 5 km (3 miles) east of the region's main town of Miranshah, the two security agency officials said.

The rest of this article can be seen by clicking here. My point is this: It looks like a questionable hit and the story doesn't support that. The killed might be terrorist leaders, as suggested in the article, but the Yahoo title makes it appear to be a huge mistake, a little house on the border's been hit...an innocent farm family? "Those horrid Americans...looks how many innocent people they're killing" is the message." And it's Americans who WROTE the article! It's dishonest and misleading.....don't you think? WHY is it always, all over the world, made to look like we're the bad guys? And in OUR press? I know our media hates that America has been the world power, we know our kids in colleges are learning that's "unfair", "hubris", we ABUSE our powers.... So, they write things like this when they're out in the world....make America look as bad as possible.

If things don't change in our schools and our media, and soon, what then? And now we have one of the first president-elects who's done nothing but remind us of how terrible things are; no "but, we'll get through this period"...I haven't heard an encouraging word from THE ONE, have you? I've never heard him say a thing about how great this country is, have you?

Well, I'm going off topic from my subject, but I think it's not too far off. Sadly.

CAN we reverse this American hatred and mistrust of America? Do you think so? With a president who's about to give in and bow to the altar of self-hate the American Left has painstakingly created through our kids?

Yes we can-
if we stand together-and
support groups like the ACLJ-
Thomas More Law-with our donations...
take back our education system...
I am encouraged that the homeschool movement is getting stronger and stronger...
and continue to get the message out via the arts-
and encourage and support people of character to run for public office ...
Woosh-that's one of the longest comments I have written in a long time :-)
Sweet dreams everyone...

sweet dreams, Christian Soldier!
I hope you're right about all of that; You got it all right; I just wish Americans would follow suit!

it took positive reinforcement from Ronald Reagan after the malaise of Jimmy Carter to bring us out of that era

we need another Reagan to remind us that we are a great people

First off, the reasons for the way they word the title are many. Among them is the fact that anything negative about America catches the liberal eye, who is the main supporter of the liberal media. Next is the real and honest TRUTH that many in the media truly believe that anything we do in another country that is in defense of our country (see also the Bush Doctrine) is inherently wrong. And finally, it's one last attempt to tie another negative press report around the neck of G.W.

Now as for the question of whether or not we can do anything about it... That's a harder question. Not without going through and cleaning house at our liberal havens (colleges and universities) and forcing education to be true to history and not be revisionist in teaching our youth. Only the facts of where America comes from and its TRUE heritage will restore pride in America and belief in its righteousness.

No sir, Americans don't make targeting mistakes. Especially in Afghanistan, just ask the Canadians.

z, did you see the education news out of Massachusetts recently? We had ourselves tested as a nation. Took the same test that is used to determine world rankings. Low and behold we were never lower than second world wide.
And we are liberal and have unions. I can't understand it.

The election of Obama will certainly help. He's got some work to do but the situation is certainly not lost.

ducky, nobody's said you're stupid..just wildly biased, close minded and lacking common sense. How else could anybody in their right mind vote for a man with obama's character or plans?

I can explain it ducky... bad test.

As I have argued in this paper, the test score component of TIMSS has some technical problems that should be considered when interpreting TIMSS results. First, by including all five plausible values in the released database, TIMSS researchers have shown their academic integrity. Nonetheless, under an assumption that all five plausible values were equally representative of student performance, TIMSS researchers selected only one of those values. As I have shown, however, choosing other values can lead to the reordering of a large proportion of the nations in the existing fourth and eighth grade reports (see Table 1). Second, to justify a proper curriculum match, the U.S. could have followed Australia, England, and Scotland to raise its grade lev- els for the TIMSS testing. If the U.S. had done so the results could have been substantially different from the ones in the released TIMSS reports. Third, the few free-response items in the TIMSS assessment design were overshadowed by the predominance of multiple-choice questions. Finally, the quality control measures did not resolve booklet inequivalency, curriculum mismatch, and age outliers. These issues are interconnected, and collectively can lead to a problematic interpretation of the TIMSS benchmark for U.S. education. In particular, it is worth re-iterating that one cannot
accept the country rankings presented in the TIMSS reports at face value
. Similarly, because the format of the test items does not sufficiently align with the goals of U.S. reforms the TIMSS benchmark is not an accurate measure of the success of these initiatives (e.g., American Association for the Advancement of Science, 1990, 1993; National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, 1989, 1998; National Research Council, 1996). For these reasons, the TIMSS findings should be scrutinized carefully before being made the basis for decision-making about policy, practice, or research in science and mathematics education.

What's the source, Farmer. Anything other than Newsmax and I'd give it a read.

Greywolfe, you've been pretty successful doing that in Oklahoma.

Now do you really think you're going to turn MIT, Tufts, The New England Conservatory or Harvard into Bob Jones University?

I'm afraid that's not going to happen but give it a try.

Ducky..that's the difference.

Conservatives don't WANT to 'take over' anything.
We don't want a conservative school system of thinking...

we believe kids should be TAUGHT not indoctrinated. And NOBODY should be insulted for their beliefs, either.

Ducky,

Having put three kids through the public schools, I can assure you that NO ONE lies and exagerates MORE than the state school board when it comes to standardized test results.

Here ya go.

I don't know, z. That sounds like force to me.

The thing is that when conservatives talk about kids being taught to think they assume that means the kid will develop into a conservative. If not then the child has been brainwashed.
There are some holes in that idea.

You're kidding, RIGHT?

You know I paid money to send my kids to an inner city Baltimore public high school.... parents want what they think is best for their kids, that's ALL.

..sure, when the Iraqis run out of shoes to throw at our presidents. :)

We can reverse the trend of self-hatred, but it has to begin at home. It's an uphill battle, considering that American-hatred is taught in public school, pop culture, and definitely college. There are two sides to every coin, but what the kids aren't taught is that life anywhere else is probably more difficult in any number of ways. That little issue is somehow always left out.

I can handle my kids disagreeing with me, politically, as long as they're THINKING and not being drones.

Yes. Please do.

The American pilot hit the Canadians that were shooting at him.

BB...I believe the world's taken their lead from US, from our media...They hate us because WE hate us.
You haven't seen ugly reporting on America till you've lived in Germany or France and seen their Int'l Herald Tribune that's now wholly owned by the NYTimes...or the REALLY biased CNN Int'l, which makes OUR CNN look as fair and balanced as the real fair and balanced station, FOX, which is the ONLY station on the air today which always has both sides represented on any panel discussion. I call that fair and balanced.

Shoes or not....they throw shoes because we've shown we don't have respect for ourselves and very little dignity.

Pinky, you're right..it's the schools. And yes, we want disagreement and different thoughts unless they don't respect the other and one side still has America's best interests at heart and that isn't difficult to measure.

Beamish. Perfect. if the left would only get FACTS before they spout, but.......

Z,

When America invites inferior, barely civilized third world socialist countries like Canada to go to war at its side, such tragedies are to be expected.

Imagine the plight of the poor Canadian officer that had to explain to the surviving troops that no, Al Qaeda had not hijacked any military jets and they shouldn't fire upon them.

At least the parents of the dead Canadian soldiers can console themselves with the fact that there's less stupid people in the Canadian military now.
