Israel's giving it back.............and, the media spins again

Regarding the Israeli attacks on Hamas in Gaza, the Yahoo headline this morning is "Witness and resident in Gaza describes attacks, human toll"

In all the years this has been going on, back and forth, I have NEVER seen this: "Witness and resident in Israel describes attacks, human toll" NEVER

OH..And, by the way
....Obama says nothing..he's 'monitoring' and reminding us 'we have one president at a time'. Why is it we seem to have two presidents when he speaks out on the economy and energy? Hmmmmm Nothing on Mumbai, nothing about Hamas. "One President". Curious, huh? (not)

The Israeli's need to stop targeting the suspected terrorists directly and just let bombs rain down indiscriminately like so many Palestinian rockets.

Maybe that way "innocent" Pseudostinians would begin to take steps to control their fellow satan worshippers and discourage future anti-social behaviours.

But then... that would remit terror for terror. I don't think it's possible to terrorize the "guilty".

Law and Order Teacher said...

I think the Israelis are tough enough to withstand the slings and arrows of the press. They don't play to public opinion because they are used to the MSM and its biases. The lefties will never treat Israel fairly because they have committed the unpardonable sin of allying with the US, the Great Satan. Liberal guilt, beautiful.

Yes, for the UN and the left, innocent Israeli lives don't seem to matter. What an outrage.

Why Israel doesn't just ignore world opinion, and let 'em have it once and for all, is insanity. FJ is right. No more Mr. nice guy.

It wouldn't be terror for terror, it would be fighting in kind and fighting back. An eye for an eye.

Hamas has to be really hurt and they're not. Their people have to come to a place where they blame Hamas for the bloodshed.

Israel should announce, when Israeli innocents' lives are considered as important as Palestinian innocents' lives, then perhaps they'll listen to the world.

Israel doesn't get a break from the world in any case, so they might as well throw caution to the wind.

Israel again is being far too restrained and tolerant of incoming attacks. Nothing's changed. The thugs of Hamas promise to 'reign Hell' on Israel. Nothing has changed there, either.

Law & Order, I'm less concerned about 'slings and arrows of the press' than I am others in the world believing lies about Israel and then acting upon them; hating Jews, hating righteousness, believing the best of extremist islam. That's what concerns ME about the bias...not the messenger so much as those who believe the skewed message.

And yes, Pris...with the media going out of its way to make the Israelis look bad (One of the BBC woman journalist's questions to the Gazan Palestinian woman complaining about the bombings was something that sounded even more leading and worse than this: "The Israelis have said they are only hitting Hamas targets and no innocent civilians...are you saying that's not true?"

Karen and Pris...Israel should pretty much do exactly what it thinks it ought to do to protect herself...she IS so maligned anyway, what the heck?

Wouldn't it be refreshing to actually have someone chastise an extremist muslims for their horrid deeds? Funny, they rarely even use the word 'muslim' but let it be a Jew..........oh, boy.

I.H.S. said...

The comments where they have never seen it like this kind of tells me that Israel has restrained themselves pretty well for a long time; anybody agree?

Hamas puts me in the mind of the thug criminal that goes around committing crimes on their neighbors and as soon as their neighbors pull out a "can of smack down" the thug wants to run to police and then try to sue for damages, I don't think so.

Blessings.

Z,
Let's see who is with Israel. The Middle East has long abandoned them. Check them off.

Africa is either corrupt and involved in civil wars or Muslim. Check them off.

Asia, all parts, is either communist, Muslim, or in India's case too busy, to help Israel. Check them off.

Japan and South Korea don't have a military or a backbone. Check them off.

Western Europe is done as any kind of world player. They have sold out to multiculturalism and socialism. Check them off.

Eastern Europe has recently been freed from the yoke of communism, but they are still in the crib as democracies and are now within the shadow of Russia once again. Check them off.

The only hope of Israel is the US. As an ally the US is shaky at best and with BO and his boys about to take over, Israel is hanging by its fingernails.

I want to think that the US is a reliable ally, but with the rise of the left, the radicals in Palestine and the radical Muslims of Hamas will have their day in the sun.

Israel is yesterday's news. It is an inescapable reality that Israel is on its own. I don't want to check us off, but I think it is inevitable.

funny, isn't it L&O??

You're right...I like to think Europe would help and THEY COULD be SHAMED into it, but.....maybe not. Oddly, Germany would definitely help Israel, there's a growing and important relationship there...I believe that 100%

But, you're right..we're THE ONES and with THE ONE in charge, Israel's toast. Isn't it interesting how the media keeps giving THE ONE a pass? He talks on every subject BUT..BUT! MUSLIM SUBJECTS! NO MUMBAI, NO HAMAS...THEN we ONLY HAVE ONE PRESIDENT!! Imagine if he were Republican? :"What do you MEAN? YOU talked on ENERGY? WHY NOT THIS?" But,...silence. we're in for it, I'm afraid.

If you're a religious type, folks...it's also fascinating that Israel's in such jeopardy when God so explicitly wants it protected in the Bible.......

we're letting Israel sink and raise your hands if you think this world's getting any closer to peace or better in any definition of the word?

ya, not many raised hands...See what I mean?

Coincidence?

Germany? I want to believe that is a possibility, but I have my doubts. The land of my ancestors, and your husband, is not a friend of the US. Schroeder ran against the US and won. Merkel is more of a friend, but politicians are notoriously fickle.

Will she stick with us or throw us overboard come election time. Spain was an ally until the bombing and the pro-US government was gone.

The pro-US government in Australia was voted out. I love the Aussies, I saw their bravery in SEA, but their government is not pro-US any longer.

We are isolated in the world. Not because of our unilateral forays into the world, but because the rest of the world has lost its moral clarity and its spine.

The US will either conform to the rest of the world or it will continue to be the lone voice for democracy in the world. It's our call.

Schroeder is still in Putin's pockets...made millions through gas deals for Putin and now is reaping those rewards; the German public is incensed, but our media won't tell you that.

Yes, Merkel has to rule in a different kind of government than ours and does veer to far left quite frequently but she has no choice.

And you'd have to have heard of the incredible amount of holocaust museums and Jewish Synagogues and amazing Germany/Israel concerts, speeches, etc., to see what's happening there....it's an amazing appreciation growing on both sides but we don't hear about that, either.

As for us being the beacon of democracy, not with obama. Our kids are indoctrinated enough by now that they don't even believe democracy or capitalism work and so there's obama who'll be glad to fill the void with handouts and redistribution. No, we're no longer the harbingers of anything; our media's made us a laughing stock because they never upheld Bush in the war; Better to hate and punish Bush for winning against Gore and jeopardizing American power because, after all, American power's terribly hubristic and "who do we think we ARE, anyway?" this is what I see in the eyes of lots of teens these days and I'm betting you do, too.

I never thought I'd see these days...

Law and Order Teacher said...

I hope that you are right about Merkel. I hope the German people are in the middle of an epiphany about the Jews and the rest of the world.

We had an exchange student from Germany and she was more than a little reticent to discuss the holocaust. She also said the biggest difference between America and Germany was that America was very patriotic. The German flag rarely flew in her city.

As for the World Cup, she said the country saw an amazing resurgence of patriotism. Interesting.

I hope that we are the beacon of democracy in the world. I hope the world will see it our way.

Rita Loca said...

It just never ends.

Z said...

Imagine NOT being a little reticent to discuss the holocaust? It's so embarrassing to kids who had NOTHING to do with it but who KNOW their country's labeled forever from that horrid period.

Yes, all our German friends and family blew their minds at the huge and very sudden/new PRO GERMAN feeling in Germany. My friends, too, marvel at our patriotism. They had that taught out of them in the fifties ...

And, as you know, if Germany makes the slightest independent move, you hear hints of THE THIRD REICH again. They're really in a bad situation and I believe that's part of why they're so close to Israel now, with MANY new memorial museums and synagogues springing up all over Germany. A LOT, believe me. The other part of that new appreciation for israel is that most Germans alive today had nothing to DO with hating Jews! Most Germans THEN didn't, either, but we don't have to go there. I get very tired of fighting that fight.

See VALKYRIE, it's not the "shoot 'em up" film the distributors are showing trailers of...the producers aren't happy at ALL with the trailers because this film is all about the truth, not some Bond-ish adventure movie. I think you'll like it.

Both great points. This thing with Israel is something I have thought about before. It's always sympathy for the Palestinians but let one of them get on a bus of children and blow it up and we don't get the outporing from the media

Law and Order Teacher said...

I am happy that Germany is changing. Our student was hesitant to watch anything about the past of her country. I told her she had nothing to be ashamed of because she wasn't alive then. She would hear none of it.

Her brother had been an exchange student. She said he changed a lot when he got home. I said How so? She said he was appalled that he felt his country stood for nothing. He wasn't proud to be a German like Americans are proud.

My thoughts at the time were that they had a lot of hangover from their past. I'm extremely interested in the state of Germany today. I only know history. All my mom's relatives are dead, at least those she had contact with.

It would be interesting to hear the other side. Thanks, and I look forward to the exchange.

Z said...

Silly and terrible what that girl's brother felt about his country; think of all the greats from Germany; Goethe, Beethoven, Einstein, etc etc etc......but, that horrid period of WWII taints everything, doesn't it. It's as if Germany had nothing good about it EVER and that's ridiculous.

After WWII, Germany couldn't fight outside its borders....we sat with the head of the German army in Berlin at a book party dinner for a large book on the German resistance in that war (thicker than most Americans would believe..FULL of people who fought hard to oust Hitler)...
General Willman had just led the army into Kosova for the first time since Germany had been prohibited from fighting outside her borders and he said it was incredibly moving. I think restrictions like this on Germans obviously didn't hinder or help the country (no wars having been fought to speak of) but that kind of restriction, those kinds of laws against Germany for fear they'd rise up again did do serious damage to the psyches of the people; especially since most weren't even alive at the time for which they're being restricted/punished, etc.

We'll never know this, but maybe God used that horrid period to finally 'force' the world into reestablishing Israel....maybe now the Germans will protect the Jews even better in remembrance and making up for the horrors Hitler perpetrated on them these sixty years ago. I hope so.

Well z, a film that I have found very convincing, Liliana Cavani's "The Night Porter". It has a very undeserved reputation as obscene but it's pretty tame by today's standards.

There are some rather dark places in the human soul and the remains of Nazism were able to bore into the soul of Germanic Europe. Pretty powerful film, L & O Teacher might also find it instructive.

Europe will continue to be silent on Israel, not that the Likud government and Arab dictators who benefit from this situation much care.

Ducky's here said...

Do the attacks have anything to do with upcoming elections in Israel, I wonder.

Aren't they next month?

This seems like a bit of theater being played for the Likud base to ensure maintenance of the status quo.

Z said...

Oh, Ducky...Yes he is. You'll see God's protection as if He were not only a real estate agent but an estate manager.

No, I don't believe this has much to do with the elections! Firstly, because my own Israeli friends say they'd do anything for peace, including stupidly giving more and more land away (stunning in it's naivite, but who can blame them when you're under frequent attack?)...these friends are very well connected and say most Israelis feel this way. You see, they've gone soft, too. Israelis are smart enough not to vote for what they don't want.

But, mostly, what most Americans don't know is that Israel's taken approximately 400 missile and grenade attacks in the last few weeks. Our media neglects to tell us that, but they SURE are covering the retaliation! Typical.

This is how I got so much more interested in Israel's protection (before I became a Bible reader and saw for myself what He wants):

I was sitting in our home in Europe watching CNN Int'l, about 8 years ago, and saw about 3 minutes of coverage of buses in,I believe, Haifa or Tel Aviv, completely demolished by PA bombs....grandfathers killed with their granchildren, pregnant mothers horribly maimed, legs severed, etc etc....
Later, after Israel retaliated, CNN carried the story in PA for approximately 20 minutes..over and over, the same sites of bombings in retaliation. Over and over..

Another 2 minutes of Israeli deaths.... then 10 more of the PA situation.
I'll never forget realizing who CNN was in the bag for, heard Wolf Blitzer's horrid admonishment of Israel for having fought back, his insinuations, and knew right then that we don't get the truth... How very, very anti-Israel Blitzer, CNN, etc. all were. It was hellacious. And I realized that we mustn't make ridiculous conclusions based on only America's media. That's sad.

Z said...

I was wondering if anybody heard reports this morning that "Israel is targeting innocent people"

Have you EVER heard ANY news report say the opposite about PA's? That's their stock and trade to hit innocent people but it's not okay for Israel to retaliate ... ?
And, the American news woman is Arab.

Ya....no bias. Right? What a world. I guess Israel just can't do ANYTHING right, huh? But they're supposed to be "better than that", like WE are, right?

The enemies of the West can do ALL they want and it's blamed on their poverty, etc., but let the West do ANYTHING and WE should be BETTER THAN THAT? Why aren't OUR CHILDREN just as valued when THEY are killed?

Does nobody ask THAT?

Go, Israel...keep hitting. It's about damned TIME.

I sent the following letter to C-Span this morning. I think it pertains to the issue here as much as anything else.

About Arab Anti-Discrimination Efforts Voiced on C-Span this AM:

Please tell your guest that the more any minority group chooses to air and emphasize its grievances and petty complaints against American society, the more that group is apt to stir up the very kind of resentment it purportedly seeks to avoid.

Teddy Roosevelt had it right when he inveighed against the concept of "hyhentated-Americans" a century ago:

"There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. . . . the one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be nation at all, would permit it to be a tangle of squabbling nationalities."

"We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language, for we intend to see that the crucible turns our people out as Americans, and not as dwellers in a polyglot boarding house."

~ Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1908)

We are either AMERICANS or we are members of some irksome, divisive, trouble-making splinter group who seeks to REDEFINE what it means to be an American. Hyphenation leads to factionalism. Factionalism breeds antagonism. Unrelieved antagonism leads to violence.

In truth there are no African-Americans, Italian-Americans, Jewish-Americans, Arab-Americans, Swedish, German, French, Russian, Chinese or Vietnamese-Americans or Gay-Americans. Neither should Women be set apart from the rest of humanity as another warring, whining, ever-more-demanding "special interest group."

By all means remember your antecedents with respect, even affection, but leave your language and foreign customs behind when you emigrate to the United States, and seek to become an American.

FT,
I think your post is quite interesting. I teach in public school, the bastion of multi-culturalism in America.

This mindset is inculcated into our youth at the expense of any shared culture as Americans. We continually are urged to sacrifice Americanism, and Western Culture on the altar of hyphens.

The study of our individual historical cultures is interesting and necessary in an academic way. It informs our way of life and brings more understanding to us about the foundations of our thought and attitudes. Having said that, upon rereading it I think I sound like a course catalogue in college.

I hope you will notice I said a foundation for our understanding. In spite of being the grandson of German immigrants, I am not German, nor was my grandfather who fought in the First World War. I am an American and I think that implies a certain culture; American culture.

We ignore our shared culture at our own peril opening the door for multiculturalism's evil first cousin moral relativism.

IMHO, moral relativism is the single greatest threat to America today. Once we are robbed of our moral foundations and nothing is evil, we will no longer be able to identify our enemies. We become the man in a dark room trying to figure out who it is that keeps hitting him and where the next blow will come from.

I'm just going to state the obvious. I don't share the same culture with someone from outside Cincinnati who calls himself Law and Order Teacher.

I may try to coexist with it but just to state the obvious I find it pretty repugnant.

So just how are we going to resolve this. I'd say compromise and open discussion but you can't reason with eschatologists and indoctrinated militarists.

Z said...

Ducky..this really takes the cake.

Yes, there IS an American culture, and like it or not, you DO share that culture with Law & Order...whether he likes it or not.

Ducky's here said...

z, I'm not a complete relativist but the idea that relativism advocates there is no evil is inaccurate.

I also maintain that your concept of American culture is very dissimilar to mine. And the country is so hardened that there is little chance for compromise or even understanding.

Anonymous said...

"There are none so blind as those refuse to see."

As Z is tired of fighting "that" particular battle regarding the reputation of postwar Germany, I am equally tired of witnessing the irrationality and the utter intractability of The Palestinians --- a people who never existed historically --- and their futile struggle against the Israelis. However --- and here's the part that's bound to get me into trouble --- I truly believe the Israelis and their ardent supporters have been sadly MISGUIDED. They have in my opinion MISINTERPRETED the Word, which is why so much violent conflict has accompanied the re-establishment of Israel as a geographical entity.

Either that, OR It looks very much to me as though God has deliberately engineered this horrifying impasse in the Middle East for the primary purpose of bringing about Armageddon.

I am no fan of those who would "immanentize the Eschaton," believe me. In fact --- and I realize this is heresy to many --- I just don't even want to believe the myth about the significance of the territory called Israel as it relates to the ultimate fate of the Jews as a people and to Christians as it relates to the end of the world.

The essence of Life is SPIRIT --- Spirit guiding INTELLIGENCE. The truly important things in life could not possibly be centered in some tiny, dreary, always-hotly-disputed geographical location, even though its historical significance is indisputable.

When one starts to realize that we are primarily spiritual beings, and that all human progress has come slowly over millennia from our unique human capacity to apply what great men of Vision have learned through intuition and imagination, one is forced to come to the realization that our material circumstances are not of the highest importance.

It's how we use our God-given gifts that determines the quality and course of our lives not where we live, how much we own, or even how smart we are in comparison to others.

I believe that the true meaning of "Israel" is spiritual --- a state of blessedness --- a state of heightened consciousness leading inexorably toward UNITY and HARMONY with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Such a view permits no passion for being "top dog," allows for no claim to superiority, and no violent disputes over territory. It gives us no excuse or incentive for aggression. Instead, it brings all factions into harmony, and fosters a spirit of mutual respect, cooperation and growing affection, which is, I believe, the Christ Ideal.

I could go on, but have probably said too much as it is.

Unless we give up our ancient, fear-based dreams of achieving dominance and our childish attachments to myth, superstition and preposterous traditions, and work very hard to believe that God truly is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent and that His primary motive for bringing about Creation was an act of ineffable, illimitable, unconditional LOVE, we will always be possessed by anger, jealousy, fear, hatred, the desire to wreak vengeance and all the other ungodly passions that lure us ever closer to self-destruction.

And with that I wish everyone a New Year filled with unlimited curiosity, a ravenous appetite for Truth, and a fervent desire to be motivated by Love in all transactions great and small.

Ducky,
Several things. First, I am so disappointed. I thought we were homeboys. Oh well, to go on.

I never have claimed the mantle of Nostradamus. I don't claim any particular knowledge in this regard.

Moral relativism is defined as the absence of evil by many, including me. We have to agree to diagree.

As for being an "indoctrinated militarist" I plead guilty. Samuel Huntington got it right. A country must have a professional military ready to defend its culture. He stated that post-Cold War there would be a clash of civilizations. 9/11 made him a prophet.

CJ said...

There is simply no way to avoid the OBVIOUS implication of the very fact of Israel's existence back in Palestine after almost 2000years of exile than that God has gathered them there and that their presence fulfills Old Testament prophecies that otherwise would go without fulfillment.

The idea that anyone could DO anything to affect this situation is nutty. If God wills it He brings it about. We can only stand in awe of the power of God and believe it.

FT, you make of "Spirit" something impotent and inconsequential except in some insubstantial wonderland, whereas the fact is that Spirit moves the real world. That's what God's omnipotence means.

That the final outcome is to be a completely new order of life above and beyond this fleshly world of violence and confusion is not contradicted by God's fulfilling his prophecies literally in the real world.

Z said...

Ducky, what would you list on a list of America's cultural things: things which distinguish us from other countries?

Anonymous said...

In TRUTH there is nothing-BUT Spirit. Spirit is God, who fills all space, who knows us as we can never know ourselves, and who gave us Christ, who showed us how we can transform ourselves "by the renewing of our minds" through faith in Him, His words and His deeds.

What most people think of as "the real world" is an illusion --- a false belief --- created by those who are actually in opposition to God's will.

I've learned never to trust the obvious. If we did that, we would never have learned of microbes, molecules, atoms --- or even the uniqueness and incredible beauty of snowflakes. We might never even have learned that the world is round and part of a solar system that is in turn part of a vast unlimited Cosmos.

Doctrines that cause division, antagonism and foster violence and closed-mindedness just CAN'T be true --- or so I fervently believe.

May all good, constructive thoughts come to fruition in these times that are so very trying because we cling so desperately to false beliefs.

And now it's time for me to say "good evening."

Truth -- that is Perfection, which is God --- is like an enormous, utterly flawless, beautifully cut diamond. It is many-faceted. Its beauty is breathtaking and compelling no matter what the vantage point might be from which it is seen or even the degree of light.

Most of us make the great mistake of assuming that our particular viewpoint is real and good, while all the others are evil or erroneous.

Truth understands that all of us "see through a glass darkly," and that we cannot know ourselves (or the world by inference) as we are known.

I find that both comforting and humbling.

A blessed New Year to all and to the World, which needs Truth now more than ever before.

I have found this approach to adversity a saving grace.

It is a kind of self-discipline really. One CAN choose how to RESPOND to stimuli. It's about the only thing over which we have any real control.

Not being able "to ACCEPT the things we cannot change" has hideous results. Of that I'm sure, so I WORK at this upbeat attitude. It's part of daily prayer.

As you know, I've just been through a long, very challenging experience, and didn't always handle it well, because I was so TIRED most of the time.

Things are different now, and I'm learning more and more to trust God and not worry so much about what MIGHT happen.
