I hope so.

I'm consoled by the fact that the America that would be destroyed by Obama's 2nd term is an America that can say "Mitt Romney is a conservative" without fear of being committed to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation.

I'm not thrilled with our apparent choices. There ought to be an option for voting 'none of the above' and sending both parties back to the drawing board if it gets a plurality. However, when push comes to shove Obama must go.

We'll then need to turn our attention to watching Romney and the Republicans with the same vigilance Obama required, and screaming just as loud when they wander off the path.

If only!

I am going to have to vote against Obama. Am I happy to be casting a vote against rather than a vote for? Nope.

As one who voted for Jimmy Peanut because I couldn't bring myself to vote for Bush, Sr., even though I couldn't STAND Carter, I'll never again vote for a candidate I can't stand because I recognize the other candidate as not a true conservative.

And I won't stay home on Election Day.

I know that you disagree with me, Beamish.

We KNOW what Obama is. Romney might possibly govern more conservatively as POTUS than he did as governor of liberal Massachusetts.

There is precedent for what I just mentioned. Thomas Jefferson, for example, was a small-government guy; but he governed as more of a big-government guy (Barbary pirates, Louisiana Purchase). Against Al Gore, GWB ran as the anti-nation-building guy, but GWB ended up diving as a nation builder after 9/11.

I'm not saying that Romney is a conservative. In fact, I don't know WHAT he is! Except a politician, of course.

PS: One of my mottoes....If you don't vote, you shouldn't bitch.

Silverfiddle said...

Romney stinks, but Obama stinks worse. That's what it's reduced to.

I am voting against Obama this fall. The next supreme court nominee and federal judges cinches it for me.

If anything Romney is malleable. With some conservatives in congress goading him, he could end up doing some conservative things that would be unimaginable under Obama.

Liberalmann said...

Romney has embraced the Ryan plan which will further destroy the middle class. His own economic plan almost double the current tax breaks for the wealthy.

You don't know wtf you're talking about. Remember, Bush was 'malleable.'Look where that got us.

Actually, things could be better. What we have seen is the futility of government spending in the cause of stimulating an economy. It didn't work for FDR or anybody else, and it certainly didn't work for Obama.

The economy bottomed out a couple of weeks after the passing of the $stimulous, and has been trying to get better ever since. It is too bad that we had Obama as our president.

Obama's stimulous didn't stimulate anything, and his policies have served to keep the economy in a slow mode with his over regulation and stupid energy policies.

Economic historians will come to the conclusion that if the economy would have been left to itself, by this time we would have been out of this recession and into a robust recovery.

Obama has been a big negative in the economic health of this nation, and everything he has done is a negative.

FairWitness said...

Yes things will get a lot worse, Z. Especially if President Obama is given a second term in office. Even if Romney defeats him, the utter devastation inflicted on our nation's economy will make things worse for quite some time. It's going to take decades to reverse the damage done by this Administration and the Congress, not to mention the mistakes made by previous administrations and congresses. We have a long haul to restore our wealth and prosperity.

beamish, I'm starting to wonder about who needs evaluation. Hard to live in a pipe dream when reality's staring you in the face and we have work to do.
You and Ducky are starting to sound like the same commenter lately, have you noticed?

beakerkin, Obama 2 gets the SCOTUS...that trumps it all for me.

viburnum, anybody but Obama. And then yes, we have to keep the screws on the Republican.

AOW, I don't think anybody can doubt this :
"Romney might possibly govern more conservatively as POTUS than he did as governor of liberal Massachusetts."

SF, I couldn't agree with you more...and there will be MORE than 2 SCOTUS appointment, if things go as they probably will.
And yes, actually! As soon as that murder happened, the Obama campaign sales page offered hoodies, did you see that?

Brooke, I love your ham sandwich quote!

Bob, remember he even allowed mortgages with very little down again AFTER what had happened? Now they're predicting more foreclosures this year than last, even as the Left says things are improving :-)

FW...We have a very long haul and I frankly don't see it happening, not with lefties like liberalman saying what he says. Let's hope he doesn't actually believe himself.
If ONLY they'd actually stop reading leftwing criticism and start LISTENING to people like Ryan. "Against the middle class"...you just can't make that imbecilic conclusion UP if you hear Ryan!!

It has never made the vast majority of people's lives better.

But go for it. You just take the risk of losing all your teeth complaining about the USA you created by voting for democrats within striking distance of me.

Everyone must follow his own concience, I guess, but I just can't understand not doing everything we can to bring about change, even if it does mean voting for someone we don't, particularly, like.

I can't say that I'm all that confident in any of them, but I surely don't want another four years with the one we have, now.

Therefore, no matter who's chosen to run, I'll vote for them.

That will be a tax on the Senors Pension and Retirement plans, and maybe Social security, making the elderly unable to take care themselves and be a problem for their children. Beamish:"...America that can say "Mitt Romney is a conservative" without fear of being committed to a psychiatric hospital ..."

I no more believe Romney to be a conservative than I believe Ducky's assertion that he's more liberal than Obama. He's an old school, pre Tea Party, Republican moderate and that's probably the best we're going to get his time around.

It certainly beats hell out of the alternative.

@Lib-man

The problem with Ryan's plan is that it doesn't go far enough, fast enough to make a hell of a lot of difference.

IMP. There is no question that the Engine of liberalism is Fantasy, and the Fuel for that engine is Free Lunch and No Effort Required.

Liberals are Losers. Lazy, Unintelligent people who give up way too early and adopt a Gimme attitude. The Communist agenda of demonizing "the rich" feeds right into their loser attitude and it won't be until they find that socialism Freakin SUCKS, will they even consider that they might have been wrong. Unfortunately, they will be fed the idea and believe that it was the Republicans/Tea Party/Capitalists that destroyed their lives and they will be destined to repeat the same mistakes over and over and over - again and again and again. That's what Losers do. It is who they are.

Too bad.
I give communists no quarter.

The liberal's is simply a series of disconnected moments, where each moment is defined by how the liberal Feels at that particular moment. Decisions made by liberals have no basis in historical fact, and are subject to change 180 degrees the very next instant.
They will believe anything now and the complete opposite a second from now. It is a mental disease.

beamish, I'm starting to wonder about who needs evaluation.

Start with the people who think Mitt Romney is a conservative.

Hard to live in a pipe dream when reality's staring you in the face and we have work to do.

No pipe dream. I fully believe Obama will destroy this country.

Given Romney as the designated "conservative" alternative, I'm having trouble coming up with a reason America's destruction would necessarily be a bad thing.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

of course not voting is giving Obama a vote. But Beamish has said he actually IS voting for Obama.

Liberalmann said...

beamish said; "I fully believe Obama will destroy this country. "

Obama saved this country from the brink of a depression caused the by the policies STILL supported by the GOP.

And not voting is re-electing him, Conservatives!

Hopefully the religious far right will be smart enough to get out and vote this time instead of staying at home and pouting like they did in 08.

I wonder if their memory is long enough to remember the consequences of their acting like jackasses and not voting got us? If not they will stay at home and get OBAMA again and then bitch and moan about what a socialist path he is taking us on and how he is at war with "religion".

As Z said VOTE ABO and I'll ad or shut up when you re-elect OBAMA!

Z said...

"I fully believe Obama will destroy this country."

And you don't think we think the same thing, Beamish?

Ticker, amen to that.

elmers brother said...

The far right ad you call them Ticker always take it on the chin..frankly they're tired of being pandered to so some establishment Republican schmuck can still take my money and saddle my children with debts they can never pay back. Furthermore, I don't need some groupthink weenie telling me to ignore my own integrity with a threat.

elmers brother said...

I fully believe Obama will destroy this country."

And I'm not convinced Romney will not do the same thing just because he has an R after his name

Z said...

Wow, Elbro, what do you suggest we do now?
We don't vote so we can just hand it to Obama?, or we vote and hope that there are enough R's in congress like Ryan and others who'll help veer us to the Right again?

What's your suggestion?
Just don't vote?

I have heard several times that out of 60 million Christian conservatives, 15 million voted last time.

We'd not have had Obama Care, we'd not be talking about who can eat what, we'd probably not be still supporting broken GREEN companies, we might not have opened the doors again to letting people have houses who can't afford them, we'd not be looking at hundreds of little laws started at disarming us, we'd not have a DoJ intent on insulting people like Arpaio because he doesn't dance to their tune, we'd not be looking at pandering to islamists, we'd not be threatening the SCOTUS...etc etc.

But, they had to stay home, all those Christian conservatives. COOL...JUST what AMerica needed.
I guess they showed America! :-)

I don't need convincing, I just have to swallow my trepidations and buy the fact that Romney's going to be the nominee because it literally has almost no chance of going otherwise, so i have to choose to do all I can to get RID OF OBAMA..

elmers brother said...

the issue with your premise is that I'm not a "WE" I am an "I".

Besides I've voted for these establishment guys before and it has never made a difference.

Z said...

I suggest My fellow conservatives don't hubristically strong arm a fellow conservative into violating his conscience for the sake of voting 4 what the other considers the lesser of 2 evils

Z said...

Elbro, we both feel strongly in different ways and I am in no way strong arming you ... as if I could change your mind?

I just have to add that I don't feel I'm violating my conscience because I have to vote for the only person available to get Obama out of office. My conscience would never lay easy if I didn't.

This is going to be a really rough bunch of months before the election.
I thought we'd only be arguing with leftists, but I guess conservatives will be duking it out like we did four years ago, too!

The difference is that you believe an America that has convinced itself that a pro-abortion for minors, pro-gay marriage, anti-gun ownership, anti-Reagan leftist governor from Massachusetts is a "conservative" is an America that destroying further wouldn't be an improvement.

If Obama does nothing in his second term but rehash his first term, that's $1 Trillion cut out of Medicare.

I can remember waking up wet as a Young Republican dreaming about those kinds of cuts to Medicare.

Do you really want to re-litigate 2008, when the Romney camp started the whole "McCain will be the 3rd term of Bush" nonsense that Obama adopted for his own campaign?

As someone enthralled to the extreme far left Tea Party that Romney financed through his "Free and Strong America" PAC, I'd think you be happy that Romney wrote both the message that Obama used to defeat McCain and the takeover of health care that Obama expanded to the whole country.

Oh, go vote for Romney because he's "not Obama." ROFLMAO!

elmers brother said...

then where's your link to the contrary liberal dude?

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Libermann,

Obamacare allegedly reduces Medicare spending by $500 Billion over 20 years.

Nothing wrong with that, except that that $500 Billion funds Obamacare rather than becoming a tax cut. But if hardened far left communists like Michelle Bachmann and Paul Ryan get their way, the Supreme Court may strike down Obamacare while not touching the destruction done to Medicare to pay for it, and we end up with a half-trillion cut out of Medicare's growth of spending over time. While this isn't the $500 Billion cut out of Medicare right now overnight to eliminate the program altogether, and in 20 years Medicare spending will still rise to over a Trillion dollars a year, it's nice to see the shell game at least gives the illusion of deep cuts to Medicare to finance a program that may not exist then and thus justifies a tax cut. ;)

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

That's all just additional pro-Obama spin, in case it's not enough that Obama isn't Romney. ;)

I've given up on the RNC, but when it comes to stopping what Obama's doing, I will hold my nose and vote for whoever runs against him. I don't think Romney's ever hung out with flat out commies, so that is to his credit.
