not sure but I don't think it was moe than a few days.
I don't really know I thought it was a few days but in my search cannot find out for sure
yes, I know it was a few days...imagine that the info's not there?
By the way, lisa, thanks for also looking!
I don' know when it got to the senate. After passing the in the senate it took three months to get the final vote from the house.
PPACA passed the Senate on December 24, 2009, by a vote of 60–39 with all Democrats and two Independents voting for, and all Republicans voting against.[9] It passed the House of Representatives on March 21, 2010, by a vote of 219–212, with 34 Democrats and all 178 Republicans voting against the bill.
Researching how long the House had the conference committee report.
Obama unveiled a health care reform plan of his own, drawing largely from the Senate bill. On February 22 he laid out a "Senate-leaning" proposal to consolidate the bills. On February 25, he held a meeting with leaders of both parties urging passage of a reform bill. The summit proved successful in shifting the political narrative away from the Massachusetts loss back to health care policy.
The most viable option for the proponents of comprehensive reform was for the House to abandon its own health reform bill, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, and to instead pass the Senate's bill, and then pass amendments to it with a different bill allowing the Senate to pass the amendments via the reconciliation process.
Initially, there were not enough supporters to pass the bill, thus requiring its proponents to negotiate with a group of pro-life Democrats, led by Congressman Bart Stupak. The group found the possibility of federal funding for abortion was substantive enough to cause their opposition to the bill. Instead of requesting inclusion of additional language specific to their abortion concerns in the bill, President Obama issued Executive Order 13535, reaffirming the principles in the Hyde Amendment. This concession won the support of Stupak and members of his group and assured passage of the bill.
Silly me, I forgot that Pelosi wouldn't let anyone read the bill before it was passed, so no one but the conference knew exactly what they were voting for. For all the House Dems knew they were surrendering to the Duchy of Grand Fenwick
The whole sordid story available at Wiki

Cactus Mark......thanks for that....
viburnum, I really appreciate that information...a friend is going to a tiny Town Hall in Illinois and wants badly to have the background with which to question the very liberal Dem, Tammy Duckworth, who seems to be running on "I'm nice and will give you all you want"...
Remember everyone on the Republican side thought more than 1000 pages was a bit much to read and digest in a couple of days?..that time is what I'm looking for ...that "couple of days"..
Of course, they were the only ones who thought reading it might be good before voting on it...that's scary!
what's also scary is Obama saying yesterday how definitive the YES vote was when it......um......simply wasn't.
Thanks, Viburnum! You were printing while I was still typing my last comment ...
You crack me up!!! "For all the House Dems knew they were surrendering to the Duchy of Grand Fenwick"
SO...give this to a mind a little smaller than yours: It was THREE DAYS the parties had to read the bill before the vote??
WOw...found this which I hadn't known "Though in 2008 then-Senators Barack Obama and Joseph Biden campaigned against requiring adults to buy insurance;[228] in 2009 President Obama reportedly changed his mind and agreed with insurance industry and Democratic Congressional proposals to include an individual mandate"
Still don't see what the amount of days were...
Months.
And still Pelosi wanted the bill passed before 2000+ pages could be read, eh LD.
Here is the legislative record of the bill from the Library of Congress.
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d111:HR03780:
The House essentially adopted the Senate health care bill in toto as the original House bill with this number pertaining to tax credits for members of the armed services buying houses.
The legislative history is a little more than halfway down the page, but no mention is made of just how long the House had to consider it before voting, other than the very limited time allowed for debate.
So much for sunshine in the halls of government
The verbiage before the time line is not the text of the bill just the title and section summaries.
Sorry wrong link above. Here is the right one

Here's the PPACA in it's entirety, just to validate Justice Scalia' s point about cruel and unusual punishment LOL

My impression was they had a few weeks form the 'final' bill. There was the bribing of states, the walking the plank that Kucinich did in Air Force One to secure his vote, and at least of week of nana pelosi making the most imbecilic comments about it ever heard to come out of Washington DC, and considering Biden, that's saying something.
The democrats adopted the principle that they had to vote for it before they could find out what's in it.
The republicans wouldn't touch it with a 50 foot pole.
The dems used the Nuklar option to ram it up over 70% of the American People's rectums. Considering at least 30% of the public are drooling morons like liberalboy, That's saying something.
The something said is over 100% of the sane people in the USA did not want it.
tru that Kid. It wa never about what Americans anted but more about expanidng powere ogthe democrat party. Like LBJ said "I'll have those n---- voting democrat for the next 200 years"
Only Obama is saying "I'll have Americans voting for "me" for the next 20 years" At least that's what he would like.
Lisa, agreed.
Plus I believe the main goal of oblabbercare is to reroute all that insurance money through DC to the coke-like money addicts. They're not smart enough to come up with a real solution so they always come up with something that will last until they're off the firing line.
They really don't care. They look at America and they see an ant farm. At best.
Damn temporary links! I think this one is permanent

I have to admit my extreme naivety here. It wasn't until this corn-husker-ed bull that I realized that bills were passed by buying votes.
Now I realize that this bribery has been going on for years, but until this came to light I had no idea.
I would have assumed long ago that buying votes to pass a bill was illegal. To me there is no difference between actually lining the pockets of corrupt politicians is no difference than padding a bill with special deals for a Congressman's pet project or their state.
We elect these people thinking they will go to Washington to represent us and in fact, they pass laws that don't apply to them (O-Care) and they get their pockets lined to vote it in.
And they were surprised in 2010 when the people started saying enough is enough and began to start ousting incumbents in favor of the TEA Party candidates.
Meanwhile, Senator Lugar is getting a run for his money in a PRIMARY election here in Indiana. He's been in the Senate since 1976 and is considered one of the more distinguished Senators from both sides of the aisle.
I suspect he may lose the primary this year.
I'm voting Murdoch.
They better be waking up in Washington because people aren't buying it anymore.
V, thanks for the link...the whole bill.
But I really would like to know how many days they had to read it..
Rita...I was naive about this stuff for years, too.
Mr. Z used to be so amazed by the lobbyists and corruption in our country...awful
Why isn't this information easy to find???
Viburnum
Justice Scalia' s point about cruel and unusual punishment
Scalia's comment came across as light-hearted? But was it really?
In my view, legislators who vote on a bill without reading it are guilty of political malpractice. However, it has long been the norm that legislators have their employees read the bills and summarize them.
Always On Watch said...
Why isn't this information easy to find???"
Good question, AOW....I, virbunum, lisa...all seasoned bloggers, can't find it. WHY, indeed.
I don't remember if it was the House or Senate, but 1 of them got the final draft one evening and voted for it THE FOLLOWING DAY!!! This was right after all of the "Let's Make A Deal" shenanigans went on. The reason I remember this is because I stayed up reading it and got almost half way thru it by the next afternoon.
which was a LOT more than most of them read!!!!!!!
As I recall, Z, the final version of the bill was released less than 48 hours before the Senate Christmas Eve vote that passed it. I don't have any proof or links for you, just my own fuzzy memory. I know the final version was not read by anyone before they voted for it, all Republicans voted against it.
I think Pelosi saying she had to pass the bill to see what's in it refers to the bureaucrats at HHS and the regulations they write to implement the legislation. The bill gives great latitude and discretion to bureaucrats.
Also, remember how the bill slipped in over $100 million dollars in funding for implementation that the bill writers failed to divulge. They scammed their own members. It stunk to high heaven.
The Congress that passed this POS legislation was fired and I have no doubt the Supreme Court will throw it out, just as we already threw out the bums that passed it.
FW, thanks....I appreciate that info.
And yes, I SO HOPE the SCOTUS votes it down. I wonder just how insulting Obama will be then?
I've been hoping things would occur which would get his true personality out...
and I hope they get to a fever pitch by November's election day.
And that AMericans WAKE UP!
I keep hearing from close friends and family that Obama will win reelection in a landslide and I wonder what planet they live on. Honestly, do they all just accept the biased crap on the network news or in their local newspapers? I can't see Obama having a prayer of being reelected. Over 70% are against ObamaCare, for all sorts of reasons. You can't do that in America and survive politically. We already threw out the Congress that passed it against our will. The President who signed it into law is next. No way will he be given a 2nd term. I just don't see it.
FW, it can't be that much of a shoe-in because it's clear the Obama thugs are scared from the types of money-raising, etc., that they're doing. To say nothing of the misleading comments Obama's been making lately.. like saying what a close vote the Health care bill was, .. and then there's the siding with the Treyvon Martin side tho he knew well he hadn't any details yet..
I think they're afraid Blacks won't vote this time in the numbers they did last time and I think they're right.
the excitement isn't there anymore, so he'll have to REALLY get them into a fevered pitch this time..which is kind of scary for them and for us. Too bad we even have to say "them and us"..
it wasn't that bad before Obama was elected, was it. :-(
Lib..stop copy/pasting here, please.
You're telling US what's in the health care bill? As if we don't KNOW?
WE KNOW..we hate it, most of America hates it.
Do some reading; educate yourself.
thanks.
