There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call The Twilight Zone.—Rod Serling
And now that TWILIGHT ZONE is in American prisons, where all prisoners can't eat pork anymore because Muslims don't want it served. Check this THIS article out, in which you'll find the paragraphs below:
"In a federal lawsuit, death row inmate Abdul Awkal complains that the state is restraining his religious freedoms by not providing meals prepared according to Islamic law, known as halal, while at the same time supplying Jewish prisoners with kosher meals. The Quran, the holy book of Islam, prohibits Muslims from eating pork.
Awkal, joined by a second inmate not on death row, says the vegetarian and non-pork options aren’t good enough. The inmates say food must be prepared in specific fashion, such as ensuring that an animal is butchered by slitting its throat and draining its blood, to conform to Islamic beliefs.
Prison guidelines for Muslim inmates already provided that meals will be “free of all pork and products containing or derived from pork.”
So, if Jews get Kosher food, why can't Muslims get their Halal food? The Jews are happy eating their kosher meals, apparently......they don't have such a problem that they have to remove ALL PORK which apparently "assures religious practices aren’t jeopardized by pork coming into contact with other food during preparation."
Does it strike you odd that a Muslim has convinced ALL OHIO PRISONS that they can't serve pork anymore at all because HE won't eat it? Now, this isn't a huge deal, but it does seem like The Twilight Zone when, IN AMERICA, ALL people have to give up something because MUSLIMS won't eat it...what's up with that?
Is this KOSHER to YOU?
geeeeeeeeeeeZ!!

Well! I just won't grace Ohio jails with my presence if I can't have my barbeque pork. I've heard it said that yankees put sugar into their cornbread, and make quick grits for breakfast. Now, that ain't kosher!
Bob: My grandpa calls that corn cake. Heh.
As for the article, I find it disgraceful. If the prisons want to provide halal/kosher food. Fine. Whatever. As long as it does not cost any more money at taxpayer expense to do so!
I find it offensive to have halal meals forced upon non-Muslims, though. Will the prisons start to buy meat that is slaughtered in halal fashion? I believe that was the original complaint.Where are the animal cruelty folks on that one?
Anyway, it seems prisoners eat better than most law-abiding Americans. Maybe I should go rob a bank so I can get three hots, a cot, a free education and such.
More social passive-aggressive agitprop...
And everybody needs to keep in mind these are not cradle Muslims, but converts trying to be more Catholic than the pope.
Get with it, people! If the state provides kosher meals to Jews, fish to Catholics on Friday, Rhubarb to Episcopalians on Wednesday, and filet to any progressive convicted of money laundering or trafficking in black babies, then I think Moslems should be entitled to lamb fritters cooked over a camel dung campfire. Either we are living in a classless society, or we aren’t.
But now I wonder what happens during Ramadan? Do Moslem prisoners in Ohio only eat after 9 pm so as not to offend Al or Mo? Do we pay union kitchen workers time and a half for their extra effort? Finally, is it true that the State of Ohio is now providing sheep to Moslems during conjugal visits?
If you put a liberal in charge of anything the outcome is so predictable,
some people are just so piggish
If I were the warden, there would be no special considerations for any group. Period. No Kosher, no Halal, no veggie, no vegan. No nothing. You're lucky they don't allow me to serve you old bread crusts with your water. Sheesh. What lunacy. It's a prison, not a spa!
off to work, and loved all the comments, but I have to say I agree with Cube. Except there's a lawsuit about this muslim/pork thing and you know they'll win because people don't have the guts to do what Cube rightfully suggest.
Except Sheriff Arpaio... who sometimes goes a little far, but not often :)
Back to the old days of beans, bread and water and there would be no problem with offending anyone. Not only that but it would be less expensive for the taxpayers.
Do they want fries with that?
Thanks for the link Z :-)
For some reason I thought jails/prisons already provided Halal meals. Guess I was wrong.
Prisons are supposed to be punishment, but not so much any more. Prisoners can get sex-change surgery, special cells for transgenders, all meds paid for, ... not punishment any more.

If it's so great inside, Debbie why not try a couple smash and grabs and get yourself an expense paid vacation?
Debbie, they do serve them Halal food...that's the rub.
They DO. But it's not good enough because pork might somehow taint it if it's served in the same building.
That's why I say this truly has ZIP to do with food and ALL to do with agenda....over and over again.
Remember when Muslims students had no problem studying at our universities without having to wash their feet during school hours?...now they demand basins for washing.
Remember when Muslim taxi drivers sucked it up and drove dogs or people with alcohol in their cabs? not anymore.
etc etc.
Now they must have EVERYONE not eat pork because they don't believe in eating it. And the left sleeps and thinks it's fine:)
And, yes...prisoners have far better health care at no charge, sex change operations, etc...and gorgeous gyms, entertainment, etc.
It's not prison anymore.
ALthough not being able to LEAVE would about put ME over the edge.
Z - If Muslims were so picky about their life - why don't they start not committing crimes - that put them in prisons in the first place.
In the olden times - we used to say - beggers can't be choosers - and sometimes we would say also -
If wishes were horses - beggars would ride...
but that was just in the olden days.
Even in prison Muslims get special treatment. They opposed pork because they were afraid that it would touch their food while being prepared, well, starve then! Bread and water will keep them alive.
This is America not Sudan, Pakistan or Jordan. And prison is not supposed to be a hotel.
Darn stupid morons who acquiesced to their demands.
sue, well said...:-)
Leticia...Amen to that! WHat NERVE
I'm surprised that the Moslem prisoners aren't pissed off because their food is being prepared by infidels.
I don't feel Jewish people should get kosher meals, nor muslims specially prepared islamic meals.
If they wanted to live a 'perfect' life according to their religious beliefs they shouldn't have committed the crime that put them in prison. Don't want Pork? Fine, eat something else like eggs and rice.
Law abiding citizens aren't treated this well.
They better stay away from Maricopa County, Arizona (Phoenix area) because committing a crime there could put them in Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Tent City, eating green balogna and wearing pink boxers.
Speaking of which, Sheriff Joe is a Million more times qualified to be in the White House than oblabber.
Kid "If they wanted to live a 'perfect' life according to their religious beliefs they shouldn't have committed the crime that put them in prison."
Man, if THAT doesn't say it ALL. WAAAY good thinking there.
WHy didn't WE think of that? :)
Sure, they're evil enough to have committed crimes but they're so holy now that they can't eat unholy food? What a JOKE...you're so right, Kid.
No Bacon!!!!!!!????
Cruel and unusual punishment!
SF: "And everybody needs to keep in mind these are not cradle Muslims, but converts trying to be more Catholic than the pope.
I rather suspect that a fair number of them are "rice Muslims" while in prison, due to the deference being accorded them, and revert to type upon release. I wonder what the recidivism rate is among them? I looked but couldn't find any data that tracked by separate religions. Not searchable that way on the DOJ statistics page.
There is conflicting evidence whether 'faith based' programs do have an effect, but those seemed to mainly refer to Christian programs.

Z, I'm humbled. I do think I have some ability to get to the focal point in a lot of situations though - at the risk of conceit.
I've been a student of the human condition for a long time.
Thank you.
Ed, now that is hell, isn't it!! :-)
Viburnum....believe it or not, a friend's Christian group just spent a few days in a prison talking to inmates...I was surprised it was allowed. Obviously, nobody was forced to participate..
Kid, you do have a very sharp way of getting to the point...I admire it.
You know, Speaking of Which and using this same logic, why don't Christian Prisoners have the same ability to petition to prisons to make it so they NEVER HAVE TO BE FORCED INTO HOMOSEXUAL SITUATIONS !!
Seems a bit more important that what might be one someone's plate at dinnertime.
Man it was hard not to swear here.
Kid, I think Christian prisoners should be able to do that right after Christians soldiers can :-)
Woodsterman, which blog is the main blog? Your profile, like so many others, lists so many blogs I don't know which you keep up daily!
Z: "a friend's Christian group just spent a few days in a prison talking to inmates...I was surprised it was allowed."
There's apparently a lot of that. I found several articles by searching 'recidivism by religion'. It seems the correctional systems are glad to have them and only the usual suspects complain.
Kid: "Man it was hard not to swear here."
I've found having to control that urge to be the best incentive for improving my vocabulary. ;-)
So what happens when those two die? Can the prisoners go back to being fed pork?
I can't imagine life without pork -I mean if I weren't a vegan - that is.
I simply ADORED pork - when I used to eat it.
Tofu sucks. Sometimes it is like scrambled eggs - if you use yer imagination.
Gad, SUe....at your age, don't you want to enjoy life? So you love good food and meats and now you're a vegan?
Although I know it's not as bad as it sounds...Thai food is largely vegan...I love that.
Eh, feed 'em all the Warden Burger. ;)
In Butler County, Ohio, the Sheriff feed inmates that act up a perfectly balanced nutritional burger made of turkey and veggies and vitamins... Which is notorious for being dry and very, very bland.
Oh, and they get a glass of water with it.
