"Dumb" Republican statements? You weigh in, too

10 dumbest things Republicans said last month

March 3, 2013, at 2:40 PM  by Taegon Goddard
Conventional wisdom suggests that Republicans would hold five additional U.S. Senate seats if their candidates hadn't said really dumb things during the last two election cycles.
So last month, I decided to keep track of the most controversial comments — some inflammatory, some just plain crazy — made by Republican politicians.

Here's the round-up for February:

1. "When a physician removes a child from a woman, that is the largest organ in a body. That's a big thing. That's a big surgery. You don't have any other organs in your body that are bigger than that."

—Alabama state Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin (R), defending her sweeping anti-abortion bill.f
Z: A FETUS IS NOT AN ORGAN.  DOES ANYBODY REALLY THINK MC CLURKIN THINKS IT IS OR WAS HER POINT ABOUT A CHILD BEING ABORTED ABOUT THE SIZE OF A LARGER ORGAN?  THE POINT WAS OBVIOUSLY ABOUT THE DANGERS OF ABORTIONS, NOT A MEDICAL LECTURE.

2. "They are going to cull the herd, so that instead of having billions, we'll only have hundreds of millions of human beings on the face of the planet."

—Alan Keyes, warning what's behind President Obama's gun control proposal.

Z;  THE VIDEO BEHIND THIS SHOWS HE MADE PERFECT SENSE.   IT IS INSANE TO GIVE UP GUNS JUST WHEN AMERICA'S FACED WITH REALLY ROUGH TIMES.

3. "Some people could make the argument that a lot of people like being in abusive relationships. It's a love-hate relationship. It's very, very common for people to stick around with somebody they love who also abuses him or her."

—New Hampshire state Rep. Mark Warden (R), during a debate on a bill to reduce the penalty for simple assault.
Z;  TRUE.  WOMEN, PARTICULARLY, STAY IN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS.  IT'S A COMMON SITUATION,SADLY.

4. "Slavery and abortion are the two most horrendous things this country has done but when you think about the immorality of wild, lavish spending on our generation and forcing future generations to do without essentials just so we can live lavishly now, it's pretty immoral."

—Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-Texas), equating slavery with the national debt.
Z;  YES, IT IS IMMORAL TO BE SPENDING NOW AND GOING INTO DEBT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.  FUTURE GENERATIONS ARE FACING TERRIBLE DEPRIVATION BECAUSE OF THE ENORMOUS DEBT WE'RE LEAVING THEM. THE CHILDREN OF SLAVES WILL SUFFER, TOO.  BADLY.

5. "Like most men, I'm more opposed to violence against women than even violence against men. Because most men can handle it a little better than a lot of women can."

—Rep. Jimmy Duncan (R-Tenn.), speaking on anti-violence legislation.

Z;  MORE OF MY MEN FRIENDS HAVE GUNS OR SOME KIND OF MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING THAN MOST WOMEN I KNOW.   THIS IS TRUE.  NO VIOLENCE IS GOOD BUT HE'S RIGHT.

6. "There's a lot of ill will towards Sen. Hagel because when he was a Republican, he attacked President Bush mercilessly. At one point, he said he was the worst president since Herbert Hoover, said the surge was the worst blunder since the Vietnam War, which is nonsense. He was very 'anti 'his own party, and people don't forget that."

—Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), explaining the GOP backlash against Chuck Hagel.
Z;  TRUE AGAIN.  THE SURGE WORKED.

7. "To redefine marriage is discriminatory towards those who hold the sincerely held religious belief that it is a sacred institution between a man & a woman."

—Illinois state Sen. Kyle McCarter (R), in response to the state Senate approving same-sex marriage in Illinois.
Z;  YES, AGAIN.  BUT THE WORLD DOESN'T LOOK AT INSULTING LONG-HELD RELIGIOUS BELIEFS AS DISCRIMINATORY.

8. "I'm going to try to be brief because I notice you're on your fourth glass of water, and I don't want to be accused of waterboarding you."

—Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), speaking in the middle of a long, contentious confirmation hearing for John Brennan as CIA director.
Z; THAT WAS HUMOR.  NOT BAD AT ALL!

9. "Slow down. Slow down. How about a little foreplay?"

—House Speaker John Boehner, joking that with bipartisan conversations on immigration reform taking place.

Z; AN AWKWARD BUT UNDERSTANDABLE WAY TO ASK 'CAN WE JUST STOP PASSING LAWS WITHOUT GOING SLOWLY AND FIGURING OUT WHAT TRULY IS THE BEST SITUATION?

10. "I was very proud of the fact that I didn't get anything wrong that I said during the course of the debates. I didn't get anything wrong, and that's a huge arena."

—Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), commenting on her performance in the 2012 GOP presidential debates.
Z';  I'M WITH HER ON THIS, TOO. I'M NOT SURE HOW MANY BIZARRE THINGS WE ALL WOULD SAY IN THE COURSE OF THE NERVOUSNESS OF KNOWING THE MEDIA'S GOING TO JUMP ON THE SLIGHTEST THING YOU DO WRONG IN FRONT OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE.

OBAMA'S SAID WE HAD 57 STATES...I THINK THAT'S PRETTY 'DUMB'....AND HE'S BEEN IN ALL OF THEM, BY THE WAY.   HE'S SAID MORE AND MAYBE YOU COMMENTERS CAN REMIND US............ AND HE LIES.  I'LL TAKE MISSPEAK ANY TIME OVER LIES.   OH, AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP YOUR MEDICAL INSURANCE :-)   LIES LIES LIES....WHERE'S MR. GODDARD FOR THOSE?

THE STATEMENTS ABOVE?  NOT SO DUMB;  AGAIN, MOSTLY OUT OF CONTEXT, MOSTLY SILLY, TIRED MISTAKES ANYBODY'D USE UNDER THE KIND OF PRESSURE POLITICIANS ARE UNDER.

GOOD THING JOE BIDEN NEVER SAYS ANYTHING 'DUMB,' RIGHT, MR. GODDARD? :-)

What's that you say, Z? The MSM takes republicans out of context and runs with it while completely ignoring the gaffes and outright lies of the left?

I'm sure that's an innocent, agenda-less mistake. Sure.

Didn't Alabama state Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin mean ORGANISM? Even if she did confuse "organ" with "organism", an error that is common among students under the age of 15, her statement makes no sense to me.

The choice of the word "bigger" was also poor.

BTW, the uterus is an organ.

Always On Watch said...

The liver is the largest internal organ, the skin the largest organ overall.

Thus ends today's anatomy lesson.

Now, as for holding Obama accountable for his many gaffes and lies, well, we all know THAT ain't gonna happen.

"To redefine marriage is discriminatory towards those who hold the sincerely held religious belief that it is a sacred institution between a man & a woman."
----
Marriage ha changed throughout human history.
To deny homosexuals the right to marry is discriminatory and the fringe religious have no standing to suppress that right.

"They are going to cull the herd, so that instead of having billions, we'll only have hundreds of millions of human beings on the face of the planet."

The ambassador from the planet Mongo is clearly insane.

What you have to realize, z, is that the longer you support this wing of the party the quicker you slide into oblivion.

Michele Bachmann (R - Prayed straight) and Alan Keyes(R - Certifiable) are not the future.

I'm not clear on z's position on number 3. Is she supporting light sentences for spousal abuse?

"Conventional wisdom suggests that Republicans would hold five additional U.S. Senate seats if their candidates hadn't said really dumb things during the last two election cycles."

Well if that's true then what Goodard calls "conventional wisdom" would also suggest that the profusion of "dumb things" and outright lies, emitted by B.O. and Biden, would have precluded their reelection, as well. Color me very incredulous!

"WOMEN, PARTICULARLY, STAY IN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS. IT'S A COMMON SITUATION,SADLY."

It is usually because they are afraid and do not know how to extricate themselves from the relationship. Few actually want to stay in it, although some live in the fantasy that it's their own fault or that they can make it change.

Brooke, I thought the title weird but then when I read the phrases and saw that none of them was truly 'dumb' I knew I had to comment on each one. It's such a very typical example of media bias, a wanton desire to condemn when there truly is nothing to condemn.

When I think of Biden's DUMB sayings which are only considered "gaffes", it boggles the mind that anybody'd dare even form this list :-)

AOW, did you see the rest of the points? I'm sorry the organ one was at the top because it was the most questionable, though anybody who wasn't being cruelly biased could see even this is nothing to diss her for.
Most don't think of the skin as an organ but that is true.
Whatever, what she meant was so clear.

Ducky, you need to read more clearly.

JonBerg, exactly right.

Joe, people staying in abusive relationships is such a common tragedy; how anybody could call that well-known circumstance 'dumb' or extrapolate acknowledging it as anything like "supporting light sentences.." is ..dare I say..downright DUMB itself?
I think soooo...

Alan Keyes cites the agenda of the global elitist world government tyrants and that raises hackles of the agenda-driven pederast community.Yet when idiotic statements drool from the mouths of members of the global elite we get silence or crickets chirping.

Here's some insight from someone familiar with agendas, particularly global population reduction agendas, Ted Turner...

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, June 7, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Media mogul and population control advocate Ted Turner recently told citizen journalists he would like to reduce the world’s population by five billion people, asking parents to be a “one child family…for 100 years.”

Turner had to answer for his history of provocative statements, and made a few new ones, when members of the website WeAreChange.org caught up with him on camera late last month.

One individual asked the CNN founder what his goal was for world population.

“I think two billion is about right,” Turner said as he walked briskly away. In October, the number of people in the world reached seven billion.

Before disappearing around the corner Turner said he hoped to eliminate five billion people through the “one child family.”

The interviewer responded, “One child policy.”

Turner answered, “For 100 years.”

In a subsequent interview, Turner was asked if he had said “a 95 percent decline from present [population] levels would be ideal” in the 1990s. Turner replied, “I might have said that, ‘96 was a long time ago.”

Z,
I do agree on all the other points you made in the body of the blog post. Sorry for not saying so earlier.

7. "To redefine marriage is discriminatory towards those who hold the sincerely held religious belief that it is a sacred institution between a man & a woman."

So are we now to assume that according to Goddard's liberal "conventional wisdon" "marriage" may now
include, but not be limited to, a sacred institution between: a man and his sister, a woman and her grandfather, a boy and his dog an undertaker and a corpse, ad infinitum? Abnormal Psychology apprears to be limitless in Liberal Land!

FROM Z:

Waylon...good one!!

AOW...I was hoping you hadn't stopped at the more 'egregious' one...the rest ARE so obviously a libs biased wishful thinking of 'dumb', aren't they.

Z said...

JonBerg..isn't it amazing that it's only the left which can define discrimination or rudeness or intelligence?

It's never the Right, with ages-long values that might be correct in adhering to those values, right!? :-)

As an example; I always wonder how, while there have been dignified gay soldiers since the advent of war, suddenly COMING OUT makes things better...when straight soldiers are made to feel uncomfortable.
They didn't have to before, did they.
And coming out changes nothing but makes some very uncomfortable. I daresay there are gay soldiers who want to retain the dignity of their own sexuality and keep it to themselves, too, but noooooooo..
it's DUMB and DISCRIMINATORY not to "LET IT ALL HANG OUT".

That's never helped ANYTHING.

FROM Z:

BY THE WAY, folks...

I SO wish I'd blogged on Ann Romney putting some of the blame for their loss on the media. I'd LOVE to see the media defend itself "No, we didn't favor Obama..."! Wouldn't THAT be hilarious!?

FINALLY, a person of some stature and who gets heard is telling the truth, so the media's in overdrive today on so many sites calling her ELITIST and comparing Ann Romney to Palin for having blamed the media!
But, it's not a biased media, right? :-) :-)

JonBerg said...

"when straight soldiers are made to feel uncomfortable"

Having served aboard ship in the mid-60's, prior to Liberalization of their (gays) existence in Military Service, I can state, unequivocally, that there were some who couldn't keep it under control even at the risk of an "Undesirable Discharge", back then. I have no reason, whatsoever, to think that their behavior won't be more agressive, having now been given a pass. While "uncomfortable" is a polite term , I'm afraid it understates the situation. There WILL be problems with morale and attrition!

Z said...

Jon, thanks for that personal experience of this.
When this thing does go too far, it should reflect on the gay soldiers pushing themselves on others, but it'll sadly reflect on the others who aren't gay and have no desire to cooperate!

Good blog, Z. I particularly liked the water boarding joke during the CIA confirmation hearing.

When Ducky says things like, "the fringe religious have no standing to suppress that right.", I can't help but wonder if he is talking about Muslims. They are kind of fringey and freaky.

I am surprised at Ducky's racist remarks about Alan Keys. He may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but saying he is from planet Mongo is definitely racist.

I wonder what Goodard thinks of this?

All anyone ever needs to hear about how the GOP feels about average Americans is Romney's 47% speech.

And there are (obviously) still those out there who support screwing their neighbors and their own families.

Z said...

FROM Z:Libmann...what's that comment about? Trying to intimidate us?

Romney was absolutely RIGHT and I am so sorry he said he regrets having said that.
Your Left HAS created about that big a percentage of deadbeats in America.

Romney NEVER SAID there aren't people who truly do need help or that he'd deny them that help. All he did was come clean to the fact that nearly half this country is on the dole.

get used to it; the truth's coming out. It's only the media intimidation that doesn't let it stick around. shame on your type.

Got to go...am in the midst of screwing my neighbors and family, you dope.

JonBerg, I won't listen to that here at work but may tonight; I'd heard about that IDIOTIC comment Biden made and what happened!
Much of the media cover THAT? (hell no)

Nice Post Z. I'll say this.
I don't think politicians are under pressure at all. I do think that between all the sex and stealing of money, it's a wonder they can talk at all.

I mean, imagine waking up in a pile of hundred thousand dollar bills and more falling on you after just having enough sex to make superman pass out, then someone from media shows up and asks you what you think of abortion.
How you even get your mouth to work is the amazing part.

Well, Bob I'm not surprised; racist remarks are just fine when they (Liberals) do it. Hypocrisy is, afterall, their Hallmark!

Ducky, he's right. As much as we don't like Obama, at least all we suggest is he's from Kenya, not another PLANET

OK, "another PLANET"; lucky for that Planet! OH, but not this one!

The truth is that today, if you -- as a conservative come out in favor of mother's home made apple pie topped with hand-churned cinnamon ice cream -- made by dad and mom's two teenaged sons on the back porch, liberals would very likely seize upon the opportunity to tell you that:

A) You were in favor of exploiting woman by keeping them chained to the kitchen stove

B) You were promoting dietary practices injurious to human health because of all the fat, sugar, cholesterol, starch and extremely high calorie count.

C) That ice cream -- especially the kind made by hand with heavy cream, egg yolks, and sugar -- could hasten the demise of an increasingly diabetic population.

D) That morbid obesity was ten times more likely to overtake the children of parents who ate in this unenlightened fashioned

E) That such practices ought to be criminalized as a means of saving children's lives. Parents of morbidly obese children should be thrown in jail and their children made wards of the state and placed in Dietary Reform Camps to extend their life expectancy.

After all, exploited, enslaved women in their resentment and longing for freedom have devised many ways to shorten the lives of their oppressors and tormentors with an abundance of seductively appealing dishes loaded with fat, sugar, starch, and sometimes alcohol.

It is up to the Power of the ALmighty and Ever-Living STATE to INTERVENE and SAVE THESE MISGUIDED SOULS from THEMSELVES. Whether they WANT to be SAVED or not is immaterial. Nanny Bloomberg -- aka Nurse Ratched of New York --Knows Best.
