STAND UP FOR THE 2nd AMENDMENT!!! (you're not standing...)

Got this in the morning emails...thought you might find it as worthwhile thinking about as I did:

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

As John Steinbeck once said: (Z: not sure, Snoped it to no avail...but no matter, it's good!)
1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.
4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.
5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?" The Ranger responded, "Because they don't make a 46."
6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.
7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. "Sheriff, I see you have your pistol.
Are you expecting trouble?" "No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle."
8. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

But wait, there's more! (Z: no, this is NOT a ginsu knife infommercial)

I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I said I did. She said "Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!" To which I said, of course it is loaded, can't work without bullets!" She then asked, "Are you that afraid of some one evil coming into your house?" My reply was,
"No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too." To which I'll add, having a gun in the house that isn't loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.

I'm a firm believer of the 2nd Amendment! (Z: becoming firmer by the second)
If you are too, please forward.

Enough said?

Hi All,

First, a reminder that the Brits and the Aussies don't have a second amendment. They have meekly, I might add, turned in their guns and are totally defenseless at a time when they are under assault from Islam.

We, on the other hand, do have the Constitution and the second amendment.

We have a major organization whose goal it is to protect it. The NRA. My husband, a hunter, has been a member for many years, and I joined a few years ago solely to support the second amendment. If you are not a member I suggest you check it out.

For their numbers to swell in the face of a Democrat Congress, and possibly a Democrat (God forbid) President, would be a great signal to those politicians which says, "Don't Tread on Me".

Let us not go "gently into that good night".

Terrific post. My husband's father was a life member of the NRA. He collected guns and was a hunter, too. My husband has two firearms of his father's, who is now deceased.

My husband earned his Expert Marksmanship ribbon when he served in the Vietnam era.

My friend wants me to take a concealed weapons class with her, in case she buys a gun. Currently she carries a tasor!

Thanks, everybody...I'm glad you liked this piece, too.

Pris, you're so right about 'gently into the night..' scary to think about it.

Nanc and TMW, thanks! Ya, that bumper sticker at Brooke's cracked me up the first time I saw it...

Karen, thank you husband for his service and sign me up in that concealed weapons class. I am seriously considering getting armed!!

Beamish........good point.
YOu are always disarming....
except with guns!

Good advice Pris! If you're not a member of the NRA-ILA (Institute for Legislative Action) join now to save the 2nd Amendment from 3 Prez wannabees who have no use for the 1st OR 2nd Amendments!

Nietzsche, "Will to Power" (1067)
"This world is will to power, and nothing besides. And you yourselves are also this will to power - and nothing besides!"

I'd rather have power in fact, than power by right.

Abe Lincoln may have set ALL men free, but it was Sam Colt who made them ALL equal.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

G'mornin', Z! A timely post. This is one that the Supreme's had better get right!

Good morning to you, Farmer John..thanks for those quotes. Timely, indeed.

Morgan, take me with! I have to get a gun...I just have to. I was a pretty good shot in high school when we went to a range, too. No Annie Oakley, but not too shabby. Of course, that WAS a few months back! (ya, ya, stop laughing!)

I haven't heard a thing from the Supreme Court...anybody have any information on it?

An armed citizen has nothing to fear from the government.

One shot, one kill . . . the great equalizer, eh?

GREAT Post!

The difference between citizen and subject is an armed populace.

Guns didn't make America free. Blowing people's heads off did.

morgan, I think McCain's all over the 2nd amendment; I listened to a speech he made to a cheering NRA crowd. Forget the other two, you're right.

tmw, mustang, everyone...I'm glad you all liked this piece as much as I did. Who knew Steinbeck thought all of this?

NW, Beamish rocks.

Morgan, I did NOT even see it and I'm so sorry! I don't know what happened. NW wrote me a nice long comment, I published it, and it never showed up! This is unusual, but not something I'm at all happy with. Please write again...I really did talk to Mr. Z at some length about what kind of gun to buy. He's stuck on something called a Walker or Walkin PPK? Or something?? TMW has one..I can't remember the first name of it.!!

WHT, it would be an honor to be blogrolled at your site...and to have you on mine, which I'm doing as soon as I type the explanation point at the end of this post. Thank you SO much!

As a woman, I can say that shooting a 22 , I got my targets easier, but I know the knock down is not that great.

Yet my husband says more people have indeed been killed with 22's than a lot of the other models out there.

The first time I aimed and actually hit my target, and did it again and again, something inside of me felt different, I did not feel so afraid any more.

I knew for the first time, I actually had a chance if attacked to not lose the fight.

Walther is a great weapons manufacturer. Werner is right.
My suggestions are:

1. a .38 revolver (Smith and Wesson),
-sufficient knock down power in hollow points, chambered for 5-7 rounds(bullets), SIMPLE operation, easy to clean, point-fire-good bye bad guy! The cheapest ammo.
You can get a .357 and use it for .38 target practice. A .357 is a magnum power round (bullet) and is a REAL show stopper! So with a .357 revolver you can practice using .38 rounds and load .357 rounds into it for self-defense. IMHO that's the BEST all-around solution.

2. .380 (Walther?)
-James Bond's semi-auto, roughly the same power as a .38, clip may hold 6-9 rounds depending on maker, harder to load clip than a .38 which is a revolver, and the rounds are more expensive, because it's a semi-auto you can get more shots on target quicker than with a revolver

3. 9mm (Walther?)
-more knockdown power(and kick) than a .38 revolver or .380, if that doesn't bother you definitely get a 9mm

I suggest you take a look at Taurus. They are VERY inexpensive and they make outstanding weapons which they guarantee for a lifetime. I've fired over 5000 rounds from my Taurus 9mm and the only thing I've ever replaced is the clip. It's still as accurate and reliable as the day I bought it. Great value.

You and Werner have fun picking out a gun! Walther makes fine weapons.

Walther, I have the PPK, which was the police model. WWII vintage...heheheheh!
Of course my late's weapon of choice is a Ruger Nighthawk, my son likes it, but he has a bigger hand than his Dad. So he may opt for something larger, the Ruger has a .357 magnum cylinder, so it would make an impression also.
I just like having 9 bullits available in the Walther.

TMW it really is a tradeoff. With a 9mm or a .380 you get more rounds to fire, more rapidly. That's true.

With a .357 you can use .38 for target practice AND load it with .357 for self-defense, which is more than you'll ever need to get the job done. No one walks through a .357 round!

So it's a toss up in my opinion. I have a bunch of different ones and I like them all.

Although the recoil is a #%$#$, a .50 caliber Israeli Military Industries Desert Eagle is perfect for those times your assailant is hiding behind another assailant that is hiding behind another assailant and you only have one bullet. :)
