Like the Clintons before them, Team Obama is certainly bound to have a profound impact on the White House, isn’t it?
I can just it now. Most of the staff will be white, and they will certainly be expected to show the deepest respect to the nation’s First Couple at every conceivable level.
As in Nixon’s time, they will probably be expected to wear elegant livery complete with with gold braid, epaulets and polished brass buttons. Bright RED would be a highly appropriate choice of color for these traditional symbols of pomp and splendor, I should think, don’t you?
Mr. Obama’s Kenyan grandmother may hope that Mr. Obama will occasionally wear native African garb in the White house to show respect for his heritage and unity between the disparate branches of his parentage. How he handles this desire should make interesting copy in future.
Undoubtedly, Mr. and Mrs. Obama will bring a new kind of vitality and youthful vibrancy to the White House.
I imagine, as he gets more comfortable in his role as The Leader of the Free World, that he may soften his carefully cultivated, well-modulated, upper class diction and speak more like the Man of the People he has always been in spirit. Good diction and a well-modulated voice are hallmarks of an undesirable elitism that should gradually be shed.
Apparently, Mrs, Obama learned that lesson a long time ago. What an asset she should be a First Lady!
