Boston has a new park.......in honor of Armenians

Thanks, Boston............I'm proud that it's a gift from Armenians to the city of Boston. I hope it becomes an important part in Boston's landscape...somewhere to remember the Armenian genocide by the Turks and other atrocities to mankind.

UPDATE: Just saw THIS information..the world's oldest shoe found in Armenia! How weird is that? FASCINATING!! z

It's a nice area of the waterfront, z. Should be an attractive place to reflect.

It's in an area that has a holocaust memorial and a memorial to the victims of the potato famine.

Now if history would remember the Holodomor but Slavs don't generally look for that sort of thing.

Good heavens! What is going on in America?

slavs don't look for recognition of their having suffered a famine in the early 1930's? could it be that there aren't as many slav's in boston as irish? could it be that their suffering is not as well known as those of the celts? i'd bet - in knowing the slavs i DO know - that the slavs would love the acknowledgment.

FB...don't hold your breath!

Ducky, I'm glad it's a nice part of town and I hope it brings comfort to a lot more people than Armenians. Sorry, your line about SLAVS NOT NEEDING "That sort of thing" didn't strike home or hit a nerve with me because, as you know because I've said it many times before, I'm an Armenian who doesn't believe we need Turkey to officially admit anything, matter of fact, I hope they DON'T. Any thinking person with a heart knows what happened and Turkey knows they know.
I hope they don't because the Armenian genocide is a bigger sticking point at keeping Turkey out of the EU than most people know and, if they DO get into the EU, they'll have muslims who won't need passports anymore swarming Europe even more than they do now.....moving into those now-empty mosques in France and Germany which are being built apparently specifically for that horrid occasion.
Also, there are Armenians from the Old Country living here now who'll be suing Turkey for monies and lands lost and I disagree with that, too....I never think you can put a dollar sign on life. Nobody's bringing my relatives back for any amount of money and I won't cheapen their memory.

Heidianne..thanks...

Leticia, oops!

Can they can build a similar edifice / monument to our lost freedom and choice near Ground Zero? Or a cross on a desert mountain in California?

Pris, I wish they didn't have to deserve it, you know? It was a horrid thing!

Major, the cross on the desert mountain was allowed to stay but vandals stole it.
as I said, I'm not huge on these monuments but I thought that Mass., being the home of MANY Armenians, might benefit from a lovely spot like this.....
Yes, it's sad that this country allows something like this but we can't stop a mosque near 9/11, for example. Or allows something like this but no tranquil memorial place for 9/11, as far as I know.

" but vandals stole it.???"

Ummmm....and just who do you think those..."vandals" might be? Really...I want to know.

Well, I guess I can't say that MA isn't doing something good. :-)

Nice to read some good news for a change instead of a report on a new megamosque going up etc.

Yes Z, I know. Perhaps I should have been more clear. I meant they deserve the recognition and hopefully, some understanding of what what the Aremenian people endured.
