Just get used to it...JUST GET USED TO IT

I've listened to a lot of experts on the subject of guns and mental illness the last few days for obvious reasons........having just listened to a world-renowned expert this morning on the radio, I've come to the following conclusion:

NOTHING IS EVER EVER GOING TO STOP THE TINY PERCENTAGE OF NUT CASES WHO WILL KILL INNOCENT, UNDESERVING AMERICANS.

No matter how much the news venues financially reap from this hideous harvest of information; no matter how many mental health experts expound on what drugs do what and how to recognize that tiny percentage of those who'll actually kill; no matter how many commissions are created to reinvent the wheel on guns and gun law..............there is a small percentage of crazies who are going to kill.  With a gun or otherwise.

We've turned tragedy that deserves sadness and tears into a time to tear our hair out in anger with each other over gun control and the NRA, and is it really kind to institutionalize or drug the mentally ill...........when, really, we should be tearing our hair out over the fact that it's all in vain when we don't turn the mirror on ourselves and ask WHAT THE HECK'S HAPPENED TO AMERICAN CULTURE AND ETHOS AND GOODNESS?

That's my take, anyway.

Meanwhile, 20 dear little children are dead and Yahoo's news page headline right now is about the two Ecclestone sisters "the most spoiled rotten girls in the world."   perfect.

Euripides has written a "happy ending" to every tragedy...

"...and a law was passed, and the children of the world lived happily ever after..." The End.

You can look at it that way or you can also look at the actions of the teachers and administrators in this case.
They gave up their lives. One 27 year old teacher died trying to protect children and doing so allowed several to escape.
There are a lot of good hearts in the world.

Ducky, I'm thrilled that you feel this country's in such good shape but I'm thinking one amazingly loving and sacrificial young teacher (and there were more than just that one) doesn't make up for the American culture you are always criticizing so harshly. Odd you'd take this stance today, isn't it.

Thersites...perfect, just perfect. "The End" is right.

Evil is not a problem to be solved but a mystery to be endured - Flannery O'Connor

Z said...

Elbro, Flannery O'Connor is gold. She was so right here, that's for sure.

Liberals don't understand one cannot solve evil with legislation.

If most of America wasn't so Obama-crazed, I'd have found his words this morning humorous; he was asked about the fiscal cliff and started out on the high road and, as he spoke, sank to depths which made me want to shake him...
Insinuating through nearly every word that the Republicans are evil....apparently, they don't understand that the rich aren't paying their 'fair share'...the GOP is risking our country's future...the GOP isn't willing to compromise, they have no spending cuts ideas. It was worse and worse and worse as he picked up steam and got his rage on........

EVIL. Anybody who doesn't agree with the left is EVIL. That's as unAmerican as it gets, in my opinion. And as wrong as it possibly gets.

What has happened to this country that anyone believes that government can keep 'bad things' from happening.

Here is every liberal in America giving you their very best strategy and plan for the future.

And that duck seems "satisfied" that a teacher gave up her life to save a few kids, as opposed to being pissed that there is no security at a school, but they can sure afford to buy iPads for the kids and go heavy on administrative people. Course that's typical liberal thinking.

Being satisfied with pathetic performances.

Being satisfied with pathetic excuses for the grossly, criminally incompetent school administrations and since the public schools are all led by the Fed, being satisfied with our criminally incompetent 'leadership'.

It really does turn one's stomach to know there are people this effing stupid running around, let alone running the country.

'I am the devil': Former classmate reveals school gunman had 'online devil worshiping page'...

Also see THIS. Excerpt:

...Nancy Lanza had brought her son to a psychiatrist as he became increasingly anti-social — spending endless hours in his room by himself....

[...]

While Nancy hadn’t set a hard deadline for Adam to move out, her concern was increasing as he became more “distant” and “withdrawing into himself,” the friend said....

Much more at the link.

Apparently, Nancy Lanza was getting ready to institutionalize her son or to move to another place or to make some other change. He resisted -- as those on the autism spectrum often do.

BTW, there is no evidence -- yet, anyway -- that Adam Lanza was violent. It does seem clear that he had no criminal record. Without a record of trouble, it's well nigh impossible to get "help" for a family member.

Lib..I'll thank you never to quote again from Fareed Zakaria, he is an American hater in everything he says and I've deleted your comment.

Please, start educating yourself; read the comments and blogs of the good people who comment here..it's important to stop being brainwashed by one side. thanks.

You don't really think anybody likes the idea that the mother had guns that weren't carefully stored, do you? grow up, for heaven's sake.

Z said...

JonBerg...are those your comments that disappeared? WHY? I sure didn't delete them...it says the author did; did YOU?

AOW, that's such terribly sad information...they say she was afraid of him. If only she'd locked up her guns as any thinking adult does, and had an intervention where the institution just came to pick him up instead of her doing it.

I stand by my post: Getting rid of all guns except those owned by murderers and other criminals is not the answer. Locking them properly, denying access to people after stringent checking on them, etc...that will possibly help.

But preventing a loon from killing if the loon wants to kill? ridiculous liberal utopia. never work

Z,

Well, I posted a comment and somehow 3 copies appeared. So I tried to delete 2 of them and 'poof'they all disappeared. I was too tired to re-comment. I guess it was just one of 'them computer things'- no biggie!

Today, I got to thinking about Charle Whitman, the mass murderer in the tower at the University of Texas @ Austin in 1966:

An autopsy conducted upon the body of Charles Whitman—approved by his father—was performed at the Cook Funeral Home on August 2. The autopsy discovered a glioblastoma (a highly aggressive and invariably fatal brain tumor) in the hypothalamus (the white matter located above the brain stem).

[...]

[One] report also said this lesion "conceivably could have contributed to his inability to control his emotions and actions." Forensic investigators have theorized that the tumor may have been pressed against the nearby amygdalae regions of his brain. The amygdalae are known to affect fight/flight responses. Some neurologists have since speculated that his medical condition was in some way responsible for the attacks, in addition to his personal and social frames of reference.

Charles Whitman also killed his mother earlier on that terrible day in Austin.

It would be ironic in the extreme if Adam Lanza did what he did because of a brain tumor.

The autopsy of Adam Lanza should tell the tale if organic brain disease was the cause of his rage.

Z,
If only she'd locked up her guns as any thinking adult does...

Do we yet know that she did not have those guns locked up? It is possible that she DID and that her son found the combination or broke the lock on a gun safe or other locked cabinet.

If the mother had tried to institutionalize her son, especially since he was not a minor, it would have been most difficult.

From what I have read about this, and seen a documentary about a mother who's son was schizophrenic, it would not be that easy to keep him institutionalized.

Usually, if a person is mentally disturbed and has not committed any violent acts, they can only keep them for 72 hours if they conclude that patient is no danger to others or himself.

After that, all that patient has to do, is sign himself out, and be on his way.

Don't forget, he had no record of any criminal, or violent acts until he committed this horror.

We have the ACLU to thank for that, btw. It was many years ago they took action against keeping mental patients locked up, and won their case.

As far as I know, this is still in effect.

The EVILIST person in this country lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

So now they want our guns again? When in Hell will these libturds ever learn?

Did you know that China had a very similar incident in one of their schools, I believe on the same day? One difference---the killer used a big knife. Did you know that a man was killed on the same day by a neighbor? One difference---the killer used a claw hammer.

Guns do NOT kill people, people do that all by themselves.

Now I lay me down to sleep
My 30-06 is at my feet
If I should die before I wake
Hide my gun from the gubbermint,
would ya Jake?

heh heh heh

A message from Wayne, "I own guns: Rifles, shotguns, and handguns. I even have a concealed weapons license. I hunt and am not anti-gun. But I would like to distinguish people who are like I am from people who are gun extremists. There are no freedoms that are not accompanied by related responsibilities. My freedom of speech is reasonably constrained by legal and moral responsibilities, e.g. I can't slander, yell "fire" in a crowded theater, or bear false witness. Similarly, my second amendment rights are not absolute either. If you can't accept reasonable, sensible restraints on our rights to own guns, then you may be a gun extremist."

2nd Amendment
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

'the people' in the 2nd Amendment are the same 'the people' in the 10th Amendment.
A comma, after Militia, and State, and then addressing The People.
To keep and bear Arms, with a Capital A in Arms, hey - there is that comma again with SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.

There are a lot of goof balls, trying to tell what the 2nd Amendment states--wrong again!

The 2nd Amendment is for the People to stop a runaway Government; if need be.
Several 10s of Thousands of Billions of Dollars in Debt--seems to be a runaway Government--?
And when they try to disarm the people so they will not have any limits on the Debt, sounds like Tyranny--?

Passing meaningful gun legislation is a whole lot cheaper and smarter than trying to arm every teacher or place a guard in every school or even to try to stop mentally ill people from getting their hands on them.

If this kid did not have assess to assault weapons in his own home, provided by his own (survivalist) mother, who thought it was a good idea to train her unstable kid in their use, this shooting WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
