Congratulations, HUGO (drat)

Yes, ladies. I know.
I just had to post this because it bugs me that Miss VENEZUELA was chosen as Miss Universe..... I hate to think of Hugo Chavez happy about ANYTHING.
Yes, guys....... I know.

THAT was fun to see!! LOL!

Good for her.

That said, it is difficult to believe she's the most beautiful women in our entire Universe. Personally, those chicks on Saturn are ... WOW.

As for Hugo ... Pffft.

I don't care if Hugo is happy or not..she's a babe.

I don't see this as a meaningful victory for Hugo, aren't beauty pageants kind of a capitalist thing?

I think all beauty pageants hurt women and objectify them Z..there I've said it! have a beautiful day girl!

Yes, she is a beautiful woman.

However........I'd like to know who the judges were. Political correctness reigns, does it not?

I'm surprised the winner wasn't Miss Zimbabwe!

Ask the Donald about the jurors - he owns that thing.

From own viewing: They do have pretty girls down there, so I don't think it had anything to do with PC.

I wonder what Hugo's friends in Iranian-occupied Persia think of this burka-less infidel.

I believe that beauty pageants are degrading and they exploit women.

I think they give horrid examples to pre-teens and teenage girls that beauty only matters.

And who cares what a woman looks like a bathing suit!! what does that have to do with intelligence and personality?

Sorry....what was the question?

Miss Venezuela is always a contender. Beauty contests are the "national sport" in Caracas.

She is definately beautiful. I hope her cause is to end skyrocketing gas prices sent courtesy of Hugo...see I can turn even Miss Universe into something political and gas oriented! HA! :)N

I must be nuts I guess, because to me she is just NOT beautiful in that picture. The way the light hits her eye makes her even look a tad ghoulish, and her teeth look bucked. I hope I'll see a better picture of her eventually, but for now, I don't see it. So I guess I'm nuts.

great comments all!

Nikki, that cracked me up. imagine her question during the contest being something like "how would this world be a better place and how can you help?"

"I'd get rid of Hugo tomorrow and apply for amnesty ANYWHERE, please!"

Mustang! THE WHOLE UNIVERSE! I never even thought of that...! HA!!

Kevin...CAPITALIST THINGS is right... maybe Hugo's just miserable? (but I don't think so!)

FJ..thanks for the states. Mr. Z remarked about that this morning "MANY girls from Venezuela are winners.."

well, I'm not quite as against beauty contests as many women are, tho I understand the concern; but since they started wearing nearly NO CLOTHES, I've started rethinking my position. It's gone from kind of pretty and interesting with good prizes to "WHAT IS THIS, UNIVERSAL PORN?"

Beamish is right...this couldn't have gone over big with Ahmadinejad..and, of course, there are rumors Chavez has become a muslim. Have any of you heard that? It's probably nuts, but......who knows?, considering most GREAT SATANS are Christians, right? (kidding)

Maybe if Miss America hadn't fallen we might have won. Two years in a row. Who would have guessed that would happen?

I'm with Angel. I don't think a worthwhile young girl who happened not to win the local teen beauty contest should feel that she's any less than the one who did.
Though no doubt Hugo would see this as a victory knowing him.

I see your points, you women who don't appreciate beauty contests. here's mine;
When I and my sisters watched the Miss America, Miss U awards, as little girls (in the Dark Ages, I'll admit!)etc., we gawked! We saw women who weren't wearing G Strings like they do now..we saw women in decent bathing suits and nice make up and who didn't seem to look ALL THE SAME due to their makeup, boob jobs and probably plastic surgery. As little girls, we aspired to being like them.
But, we thought they were BRIGHT, too! (we were young and didn't understand "I want EVERYBODY to have WORLD PEACE tomorrow!" ..hey, did Obama ever run for Miss America, come to think of it!? SORRY, I digress..)

Yes, we thought it wonderful that all the beautiful young women could reach that height of being in finals and it didn't keep any of us from going to college, pursuing our dreams, etc. We just watched, found it lovely, aspired to that kind of grace and beauty, and went to bed that night after the awards feeling lucky to be girls!!
Maybe I missed something....we didn't feel WE had to look beautiful to be worthwhile. But, maybe I'm fooling myself and something sank in subconsciously? I don't think so, but......

Frankly, come to think of it, I wish MORE teen aged girls would see CLEAN, UNTATTOO'd, well groomed women with good posture and pride about themselves...sure beats the grungy look of today. Except they DO seem practically naked up there, the few times I've seen the bathing suit portion. ?

THAT, I hate. I'll give you that.

Nearly naked? In Sparta they would have been COMPLETELY naked. It was thought to help keep young girls healthy and athletic and act as a deterrence from getting "fat" if they had to march naked through the streets once a year.

It was also one of the reasons all the "games" were performed nude. One couldn't "deceive" their opponent through careful concealment and "attiring". ;-)

Plato, "Laws"

MEGILLUS: I think that I can get as far as the fourth head, which is the frequent endurance of pain, exhibited among us Spartans in certain hand- to-hand fights; also in stealing with the prospect of getting a good beating; there is, too, the so-called Crypteia, or secret service, in which wonderful endurance is shown,--our people wander over the whole country by day and by night, and even in winter have not a shoe to their foot, and are without beds to lie upon, and have to attend upon
themselves. Marvellous, too, is the endurance which our citizens show in their naked exercises, contending against the violent summer heat; and there are many similar practices, to speak of which in detail would be endless.

---

Touching the women, let the girls who are not grown up compete naked in the stadium and the double course, and the horse-course and the long course, and let them run on the race-ground itself; those who are thirteen years of age and upwards until their marriage shall continue to share in contests if they are not more than twenty, and shall be compelled to run up to eighteen; and they shall descend into the arena in suitable dresses. Let these be the regulations about contests in running both for men and
women.

that would be a deterrence for ME, TRUST me, FJ!!

Completely nude public athletics, huh? No WONDER even the soon-to-be fallen Romans severed Sparta off from their empire, huh!? HA!!

Nudity is beautiful and has its place.... But, with today's pregnant girls insistant that we ALL see every curvature of their baby's development (seemingly hoping that shrink-wrap top is tight enough to rise up so we get the pleasure of the inverted belly button sighting, too!), and that we see the nipple during breast feeding, and kids doing it on the beach and parks in full sight of people who can't say anything for fear of being branded prudish, etc etc...I'm thinking it's a kind of unholy reduction to animal status the PETA idiots who put animals in FRONT Of people adore. Heck, we have people in jail longer for killing animals than people these days! Nudity is for furry animals..and I"m not talking a hairy ethnic type of man!!!!

Ya, I sound like a prude. I don't care..I think a beautiful body nude is as artistic and gorgeous as the next person, but I think not seeing everything is SO SO SO much sexier. but, that's just me!

I always enjoyed beauty pageants, too, Z, but I'm afraid I was really only interested in who was the prettiest, usually bored by the talent and character stuff, and very disappointed when I didn't think there was a true knockout beauty among them. When I saw one I would root for her to win. Miss Universe always seemed to me to get the beauties, while Miss America would go for the character stuff more, to my disappointment. Very shallow of me I know -- but at least it was the face and appearance in a gorgeous gown that attracted me -- the nudity we can do without. I suppose it did feed me too much concern about physical beauty too, an American malady I think we are all suffering from, but I can't condemn the pageants for that really. Beautiful people are nice to look at, what can I say. I wish the Venezuelan girl were prettier myself -- but maybe that is just a bad picture of her.

CJ..ME TOO...i'd be so disappointed when my pick hadn't won! But, it sure was great fun to watch and root for her!
