z, i have to show these quotes to my hubby. we just had a looonnggg discussion about obama a couple of days ago. these quotes solidly back up my assertions about him. he is not a balanced man (i don't mean his mental state, necessarily). i mean i can tell from his associations and the woman he chose to marry (scratch that, i'm pretty sure she chose him), that he was a young man on a search for his black self his whole life. he doesn't embrace all sides of himself with confidence.
THAT is why he will never be president. he's too lospsided to lead anything other than book club.

I agree with what Maria has stated. He doesn't embrace his "white" self. I am not sure why when it seems the ones who nurtured and loved him the most his whole life were his white family. I find this difficult to swallow. He does need to come to grips with himself. There is a vid on youtube that has Obama narrating the book himself. Evidently you can buy the book on tape and listen to him read his own book...its disturbing. :)N

I noticed yesterday at Sam's store, both of Obama's books. For those of you who aren't familiar with Sams, it's a warehouse type of discount store like Cosco, and heavily shopped. We can only hope that people are buying his books.
Obama has been careful to campaign without stressing his 'group think' towards black people. However, his church affiliation should have answered any questions anyone had in that regard.
His wife was not so careful. Have you seen much of her lately? Uh uh.
Whomever is President, must be President of the country. All the people. It was inevitable that Obama, and Hillary, being the first black and woman respectively, with a serious opportunity to be President. Their race and/or gender was front and center.
It behooved both of them to reassure the country that they would govern without a particular focus on race or gender, just as JFK did regarding his religion. Obama tried, but his background of associations and his own writing put the lie to his presentation.
Neither one of them did. Obama spoke of his grandmother as a "typical white person" and Hillary stressed women and the "glass ceiling" a little too often. America cannot be represented as a whole with the executive branch becoming another special interest group.
The media has become spokesmen for politically correct style over substance. They're prisoners of their own immaturity in that they have betrayed their trust for the result they want.
Integrity seems to be a rare quality in todays tabloid America.

As a White woman, it's difficult for me to imagine what it's like to be both Black and White.
Frankly, I wish I could. On many levels, as a matter of fact, come to think of it.
I guess the ULTIMATE TEST of anything Obama says, like these quotes from his books and newer things he's said is "Could McCain say that substituting WHITE for Black and have people ignore it?"
I think the answer is clear. Meaning, these are definitely racist and there's a double standard about that that stinks.
If he'd written these statements in his twenties, I could almost understand: he might have felt a little racism growing up, fine..I understand that. Sad, but life happens.
BUT..these books are written in 1995 and 2006 (Audacity is the latter), he is adult enough to where one would hope he'd made peace with himself by then AND, if he hasn't, HOW can he be ready for a PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES? he can't deal with THAT and he's going to deal with THIS!?? That line about muslims is how he feels NOW.
Will he come out and denounce these statements or would he be losing Black and ultra liberal "We think Whites suck, too, especially American ones!" White votes?
Pris, the real problem is MOST of our media is now tabloid, right? We're talking the networks who've ignored so much of this. They simply don't care WHICH Marxist takes this country down as long as one DOES.

Americans For Prosperity is holding a townhall meeting tonight and we're getting ready to make an all-out push to get Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Ponte Verda Bch. to become the first big area to call for drilling off the coast (1.3 million people). I think it's going to work! We already have it on the agenda for the Jacksonville City Council. This is big, say a prayer for us. :-)

Okay here's the preliminary from our pow wow. Our Senators-(Martinez the RINO and Nelson the Dem)-are skittish as hell about drilling anywhere within 90 miles of the coast so a compromise was struck and we're pushing for 50 miles. Councilman Davis from Jacksonville is on board and will be selling the changes ASAP. Both Senators will be on board also once they see that the voters will let them get away with 50 miles.
At Americans For Prosperity we wanted 20 miles, but FOR NOW :-) that's a non-starter. Once FL goes with the 50 mile drill limit, we WILL get that down to 35 and then 20. Believe me. We got us the beginning of a movement! This is fun.

Z I'm not sure how soon China will be drilling. All I know for sure is that it's in the FL Straights, so it could be 20-50 miles from the Keys. So far all they've done is find the OCEAN of oil that WE should have been drilling for the last 15 years! This is enough to make you nuts AND is a convenient escape hatch for wary politicians. "Hey the damn Cubans and Chinese are gonna drill there, but WE CAN'T?" A Dem said that. LOL! I wish I could tell you what I saw and who said that. :-)
So far they aren't drilling there yet. The rig equipment is on back order.
I really think this thing is going to happen. Our Governor, Crist, is a Populist POS who will sway easily with public opinion, so he wouldn't dare block it.
Our biggest roadblock is the east coast condo commies who retire from up north and buy a condo on the Atlantic in south FL. They are retired NYC police officers, government workers and businessmen who give HUGE money to the Dems. They will put MERCILESS pressure on Dem Senator Bill Nelson to block drilling within 50 miles. I would guess there's a 65% chance it will happen.

To play a bit of the devil's advocate, I wonder if we (including myself) give Obama too much credit. We don't know for sure that one, these ideas in his book are his, two, that he even wrote the book himself.
The one thing that has been consistent about Obama is that he cannot take a stand on anything. I would think that no one here could come up with one thing he has taken a stand on and has consistently stuck to.
I beleive what is more likely is that this man is nothing more than an empty suit. It has been my strong suspicion that he may be nothing more than a puppet with Michelle firmly ahold of the strings.
But, maybe I'm just tired and cynical after a long day at work. I cannot credit him with being a deep thinker though.
Z -- I tried to explain to our ugly duckling over at Beamish's that we will not follow Obama into socialism but he remains with his head under water. He only sees us as racists and can't imagine that we have a deep love for America since he doesn't know anyone who loves America and obviously wants to run our country into the ground through socialism.
