Making NO BONES about it...........

But, of course...Obama's family is OFF LIMITS. He wants people to "lay off my family".....
So does Sarah Palin, I'm sure.

That's the difference.

Obama can't take any criticism. He and his campaign try to silence his critics. Palin only grew stronger through the attacks.

Hmmm, who would you rather have in the White House...Someone with thin skin who tries to assert power (that they don't even have) over those responsible for the criticism? Or someone with thick skin who shrugs off criticism and comes back stronger?

It's a clear decision to me.

Isn't the treatment disgusting? The nature of the pissant complaints they're unearthing tell you that they really have nothing more than drive-in movie type stuff on Sarah. My guess is that they'll throw a thousand big lies against the wall a week before the election.

Well, here's an example of liberal distortions: "she has refused to cooperate after saying that she would."

Palin said she would cooperate with the lawful probe ... which takes place within the auspices of the state personnel director. She will not cooperate with the extra-legal Democratic Party hatchet job.

I'd like more coverage on the new bail out (and this time it is a bailout). Let's look at what's real for a moment.

There is no possible way taxes will be raised enough to pay for this mess. McCain is yelling for tax CUTS, which is about as smart as pouring gasoline on a forest fire but you know how it is with the right. Foreign investors are terrified of the USA right now, fearing the total Republican irresponsibility towards the economy is about to break the economy of the world.

Since it isn't taxes, then how will it be "paid". In shortfalls, all over the place.

Just DOUBLE everything you've ever heard about the US government having it's hands tied due to the payment of interest on the national debt. ASSUME that services will be cut in the near future, because they will be. You can also assume the deficit will be growing larger, faster because this mess isn't going away.

Figure on higher inflation being built into the system for a long time. Way back in the 70's I did some back of the envelope calculations and told my wife I figured that the bill for the Vietnam War was not going to ever be paid off, so the US economy would be locked into 7% a year real inflation. Much work was done to shift that to various sectors where the consumer would not see it, and a big hunk of that money was exported, but that figure isn't far off for the average growth of M3 between 78 and 98 when Clinton actually started paying down the debt.

Your cost is coming in higher prices for everything over time, coupled with much lower government spending over that period. That's the real cost.

Loss of our lead in science and technology is probably part of that cost. Slower conversion to electric vehicles is part. More carbon emissions and less regulation of various entities will be part of the cost.

To put it another way, the Repubs mantra of "don't regulate" has now cost us a trillion in the S&L crisis, a fortune in the ENRON crisis, a small fortune in the LTCM crisis and now we have doubled the national obligations at a single stroke! The amount of money LOST TO DEREGULATION is breathtaking.

The judgment on the Reagan experiment with deregulation is in. IT DOES NOT WORK BECAUSE THE MARKET WILL GAME THE SYSTEM AND BANKRUPT YOU! Tried to tell you folks but you wouldn't listen.

Which isn't to say Democrats didn't help this along, hell, it was popular and it was cheap at the time, and they could pay for other programs by slashing regulations. Even Bush looks good on the Freddie Fannie mess, compared to Barney Frank.

But those are the costs.

Experiment OVAH! So you may want to start thinking about how we work ourselves out of this mess. And remember, anyone talking about tax cuts now is not on your side.

They're following the path of so many left wing giants: Marx, Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao, Kim, Castro, Mugabe . . . the list goes on and on. (Yes Hitler! I have read Mein Kampf and in spite an extreme nationalist -- a term erroneously applied to the right -- his economic beliefs and policies were very far to the left.)

Thanks for the substantive reply to a serious post and a very critical problem, shoprat.

Ducky, this just might be the most uneducated, uninformed comment you've EVER made. It's almost as silly as Obama saying he's not raising taxes on the middle class. Which would be true, if they never buy anything here or don't work for an American company.
You up taxes on corporations now and we'll have no America. Congratulations.

I'm deleting everything you write. This is my blog, it is not censorship to ask people to come here better informed and much less sarcastic. All I asked for was civility.

Ducky, I do see this is a genuine concern you raise. But, you do tend to put a partisan slant to it.

Regulation and oversight mean little when those who are responsible for that are taking favors and large contributions from the entity which they oversee. These include Presidential candidate Obama, who received the second largest amount of money from F Mae & Mac. Also Lehman Bros.

You are correct about Bush.

This appeared in the NY Times in Sept. 2003:

"The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.
Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.
The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.
The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt—is broken."

Below is a link to the Congressional Record re. McCain Proposing legislation to reform F Mae & Mac in 2005.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/record.xpd?id=109-s20060525-16&bill=s109-190

Homebuilders lobby and Democrats opposed this legislation, and it died.

Now, what good is government oversight when politicians are engaging in a conflict of interests? Some of whom had their fingers in the pie? I have no doubt, btw, that some Republicans benefitted as well.

Today, the Dems are crying foul and of course, are blaming Bush. I don't see how hearings will take place anytime soon, given Obama's acceptance of contributions of up to half a million dollars from these two entities, and questionable involvement by Dodd and Franks.

Bottom Line - If the regulators are corrupt, it's useless to call for regulation.

Also, this is a lesson in what happens when a common sense, responsible approach, in this case lending money, is cast aside to provide what is essentially an unworkable and irresponsible free lunch!

A disaster both Bush and McCain predicted, and nobody listened, or would cooperate.

Pris
PS, cutting taxes raises more revenue not less. Raising taxes in this environment is totally counter-productive for the economy.

That's coverage you can't depend on for sure!

Ducky, one more thing. I find it ironic, that you want more regulation. Why? If there is one thing the left never exhibits, it's integrity. These are the people who are supposed to enforce the regulations? Suddenly we're supposed to think they won't game the system? Get real.

Their main strategy is, the ends justify the means. Honesty and integrity take a real beating on the left and all I have to do is point to the feeding frenzy against Governor Palin. So much so, no one would believe any of the nonsense your side throws our there. Their lies are exposed every day.

Anonymous said...

My near genius friend Pris asked, "Now, what good is government oversight when politicians are engaging in a conflict of interests?"

It is an astute question because an honest official would never be "conflicted" between serving the American people, or receiving cash donations from any person or organization under congressional oversight. This may demonstrate more than any other single example that "we the people" have not chosen our elected officials wisely.

I have to laugh about Congresses' overall approval rating being in the single digits ... yet when asked about their specific senators or representative, 80% claim they are satisfied. What's wrong with this picture?

I absolutely agree with Z ... the answer is TERM LIMITS; in this case, I think SCOTUS got it wrong. Of course, given the slef-serving nature of most politicians, we can forget any idea we might have about a constitutional amendment.

Also Pris, please drop over and see my discussion about "Spending Cuts."

This whole crisis is an excellent example about three issues about which I have been talking a lot over the years:

1. The notion that everybody is equal and, therefore, must get a loan for a house, even if he can't afford it, is ludicrous. This is this idiotic requirement shoved down everybody's throat by the Dems (Clinton e.a.) which is at the heart of the mortgage crisis. If somebody can't afford a loan, he shouldn't get one. Our financial background was thoroughly checked for the mortgage, why not everybody else's. These are these political requirements imposed on companies, and afterwards they wonder why companies fail. How about applying sound business practice?

2. If we don't stop the system of organized bribery, aka campaign contributions, this country will continue on the path to become a banana republic. It becomes clearer to me every day (see the moneys received by Obama by these mortgage outfits) that companies (and most individuals) spend their money on campaigns because THEY EXPECT SOMETHING IN RETURN. That creates a biased view, and ergo is bribery. Campaign contributions need to be forbidden all together, and the candidates need to be financed by the public. And, the expenditures need to be limited - the only beneficiaries today are the MSM, we really don't need these massive ad campaigns and $60M conventions.

3. Term limits: As said by others above, keep the professional politicians out of Washington, and replace them by real people with real experience, and limit them to two terms. And once this pitiful running after money to finance the campaigns is terminated, may be there is hope for real people, replacing all the lawyers in congress who are trained to extort people since that is what they do on a daily basis (sorry, couldn't help it - some of my best friends are lawyers and they are wonderful and honest, something which wouldn't come to mind when thinking of that bunch in Congress, they must come from a different class).

-The daughter's a 'ho'
-the baby wouldn't have Downe syndrome if she'd sought medical help!

anybody else hearing anything else, chime in.......sad.

Well bless my soul Let's just get those experts such as Senator Chris Dodd right on all that new regulation.

And even though this so called bail out will cost trillions, maybe even GODZILLIONS ( I put that in for those Austin Powers /Dr. Evil fans), Mr. Obama wants to give the UN even more money.
To fight global poverty.

Oh, you can't make this stuff up.

But, the point of this cartoon was to discuss the incredible and biased coverage over one candidate in this election.

If it were any more biased, Sarah Palin would be sitting in jail or worse.

Incredible, the way this woman scares the left and elitist cronies in DC and all along that belt way.

Well, get over it.

America will be a socialist country, no small business owners will be able to survive, corporations will not be able to keep what employees they have let along hire more, and all our jobs will go overseas....terrorists will be emboldened by the 'kumbaya' peacemaker ..but we'll all have (lousy) healthcare financed by the gov't and every kid will go to college..tho how those colleges can stay open when the government is broke is way beyond me.
