Is that a swarm of LUNAR MOTHS? The color and natural composition is extraordinary.

I knew that MONARCH BUTTERFLIES grouped together in large numbers like that, but never these exquisite blue creatures.

Not far from where I live there is a large, architecturally significant arboretum in which birds, butterflies and moths fly freely among trees and plant life that simulates Nature in a highly concentrated way. It is open to the public, and truly fantastic to behold.

What keeps the flying creatures from exiting through the open doorways I don't know, but apparently they don't.

It's like a little taste of Eden–––without any serpents, thank God.

Elbro, isn't that a gorgeous color?

FT...I just posted it for its beauty, I'm not much of a entymologist (sp?)! That's amazing about how the creatures don't fly out..weird!

Let's hear about the beauty in your neighborhoods, folks!

I'm lucky enough to have the ocean 3 miles down the street....we never cease being amazed at how the same old ocean changes with every change of the sky or the winds..it never looks the same! The color changes, the air and tide patterns change.....the birds stand at attention as if they're guarding our shores!!

OF course, they're looking for FOOD....When we were in Santa Barbara, I commented on the birds which do nothing but stand in the sand all day waiting for their next meal and then I realized that's one thing I have in common with birds!!

That is a spectacular photograph. Those winged things are so BLUE.

In my opinion there is nothing beautiful about the Nevada desert. It's dreary, dry, hot in summer, freezing in winter, gray, dusty, scratchy, crawling with hostile forms of life and thoroughly unfriendly to human habitation.

The natural beauty where I live was all imported in the 1900s in the form of trees like elms and maples, and every kind of flowering plant that can take the cold winters -- lilacs love it here so everybody has them.

We do get some enjoyable wildlife around here too, though, mostly because the Sierras are so close. Cute little quail families wander everywhere, and deer hang out in great numbers in this neighborhood because nobody bothers them. The occasional bear scares the wits out of people for a while.

I love the line of trees right outside my window and I don't even know what kind they are. They shade me from the searing sun to the west and I love the flickering green light and shadow they cast in the room.

I COULD miss the beauty and moodiness of your ocean in Santa Monica where I lived for years, though I'm not really a fan of tropical plants. I probably miss northern California more, where I also lived for years, with its oaks and ferns and wisteria and bougainvillea and fuchsias and camelias and rhododendrons. Ideal climate in my opinion.

But I'm the kind of person who lives in my head so it doesn't really matter all that much where I live.

Happy Sunday.

That is a beautifully awe inspiring photo. How wonderful G-d's work is indeed. We have a lovely nature center two blocks from our home with a creek - walking paths, bike paths, area for recreation for the kids and even the animals. It is so awesome and beautiful - the trees create an awesome cannapy and shield you from much of the sun and heat. It is just gorgeous.

I meant 1800s. Sigh.

I'm about 100 yds. from the Atlantic, walking on the beach in the morning with my neighbor is a real joy.
Certain times of year we are overwhelmed with shells and sea glass, other time, if the tide is low, we see the small fish and crabs that live in the coquina ridges, or sea turtle nests, or plovers and sand pipers, terns, sea gulls of various types, brown pelicans and ospreys.

What a gorgeous photo.

We have a pond behind our house. I love to sit next to it and watch the water ripple. I love how the trees reflect off the still water in the fall, with the golds, oranges, and reds shining on the water.

Interesting to see how few respond to Beauty, and how many respond to signs of discord and antagonism.

Normally, I get tons of comments on my Sunday posts including faith and beauty. I posted something too soon after it, frankly.

Here's what bothered me; that so few commented on the dishonesty of the postal union ..the piece below. Not that It's 'my piece' (mostly, it's not'mine' it was letters and information FROM the union, anyway), but that it's SO IMPORANT. I just hope people had read it and discussed it with liberals who should know better. NO union should coerce members to have their monies used against their beliefs. THAT stinks.
