MLK, Jr. Day....and schools

Congressman John King from S Carolina, and the NAACP, are upset that S Carolina schools are open today to make up for snow days.   Apparently, this is a given;  MLK Jr. Day, Memorial Day, and one other holiday I can't remember, are slated for use if snow days happen which require school days be added.

First, can you imagine that the schools did this on purpose to diss MLK, Jr?  And, secondly and most importantly, do you think King and the NAACP will complain if Memorial Day is used as a school day?   According to the news, these days have been slated for a long time for use if necessary but the NAACP didn't complain then............WHY NOW?   Do they REALLY think this is an insult to Martin Luther King, Jr., or would he want his day used for school children to make up school?  I honestly think he would.  Don't you?

I have a dream, too.......that Americans start to realize we're all American first and we need to pull together when necessary, not stand up for special interests.

Z, I volunteer in the Kindergarten at the local public school. For the first half-hour I stay in the hallway area doing schoolwork filing and craft preparation for the teachers. I was doing this last Wednesday morning when I overheard three 6 to 7-y-o boys saying, "Those white people were awful." "Yeah, they were horrible." "I'm so mad at those white people."

I glanced over and the three little boys were whites with blonde to light brown hair. Not that their race should matter, except that it hurt my feelings. Must we teach RACE HATRED in the week leading up to MLK day? Is that what MLK would have wanted?

This is disturbing to me.

Z said...

Opus, that is hideous...they're guilty and ready to PAY PAY PAY, so something's worked for somebody, hasn't it. I don't know how you held your tongue with their teacher....I'd have blown a gasket.
Somebody needs to go into those classrooms and tell them that's a bad part of American history but we encourage all people to be their best selves and have for YEARS.
Heck, some college graduates (like Megyn Kelly, by the way) still think the 3/5 Law for Blacks was AGAINST BLACKS when it actually tipped the balance in Congress so more Northerners against slavery could be represented...you can barely find that if you Google,though...

We need to RETEACH..but how do you reteach generations? I have black friends who'd kick that teacher's rear end!

Ducky's here said...

If a school has to cover snow days it tacks the days on at the end of the year. At least that's how it's done here and we've had more snow days this year than South Carolina in the last couple decades.

Was it necessary for S.C. to open on MLK day? No, and only they know in their hearts why they did.

Next up, z rationalizes slavery.

Always On Watch said...

Schools in the South do often try to make up days within the school-year calendar. Staying open later, into the warmer weather, results in high air-conditioning schools -- assuming, of course, that all the schools in the system have air-conditioning.

I'd be interested to know if the MLK holiday was the second day added to the calendar. If Presidents' Day had already been taken to use as a make-up day, then it makes some sense that MLK Day would be next on the list as a make-up day.

Big mistake. Either they wanted to make a stupid point or they're plain dumb. But stupid move at the end b/c sometimes you have to think about symbols and the consequences of not respecting them.

Opus, racism or whatever you want to call it is unfortunately a worldwide, multi-ethnic issue.
I've lived it twice once in Vietnam where I was insulted of something like "whitty tourist" and once in France where young French of Arabic descent paradoxically insulted as something like "[beep] French".
We can try to improve things and communicate but it'll never go away. It's in the nature of humanity unfortunately. That is actually why I cannot socialism. Because, by reducing opportunities and making people slave of welfare, especially immigrants, you create a lot more tensions than when times are prosperous.
So conclusion, it's not a white thing, it's not a black thing, it's not an Asian thing. Racists are everywhere.

Next up, z rationalizes slavery.

In order to do that, Z would have to borrow a few pages from the progressive leftist Madison Grant's book on racial heirarchies which the left-wing labor activist Adolf Hitler modeled the racist Nuremburg Laws upon. Or, at least she'd have to adopt a position akin to that of progressive leftist Woodrow Wilson, who enthusiastically revitalized the Ku Klux Klan, the terrorist wing ofg the US Democratic Party.

In other words, if Z were interested in "rationalizing" slavery, she'd have to sound like a progressive leftist like Ducky, who's cornpone ideologies don't have a thing to do with rationalization at all.

Why else would a progressive leftist like Ducky conflate a school making up a snow day on the birthday of a conservative Christian and Republican civil rights leader that was murdered by left-wing eugenics proponent James Earl Ray with slavery? Rationality never entered the building.

FrogBurger said...

I can rationalize Ducky's racism, Beamish.

Socialism means putting people on welfare, including immigrants. Therefore it means he considers people can't help themselves. Therefore that they lack some kind of ability towards self reliance. Therefore it is racist.

I love applying the left's phony logic to them.

Why a special day for MLK? Is he better than Washington, Lincoln, George Washington Carver, JFK or a host of others who certainly did as much or more for the rights of ALL people as MLK ever did. Is it so necessary to be so Politically Correct that MLK, because of his race is given a special day? It is certainly not in the ideas which he upheld and taught. I submit his own words which would offer correction to those who would set him above all others because of his race or his ideology and that includes his own son, who evidently failed to study the words of his father.

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed: we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

"I have a dream, that one day all three of my children will one day, grow up in a society where they are not judged by their race, but by
their character."

"I look forward confidently to the day when all who work for a living will be one with no thought to their separateness as Negroes, Jews, Italians or any other distinctions. This will be the day when we bring into full realization the American dream -- a dream yet unfulfilled. A dream of equality of opportunity, of privilege and property widely distributed; a dream of a land where men will not take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few; a dream of a land where men will not argue that the color of a man's skin determines"

"The Negro will only be truly free when he reaches down to the inner depths of his own being and signs with the pen and ink of assertive selfhood his own emancipation proclamation."

I rest my case!

And Duck he said this just for you:

FB, REALLY? By having school open on Martin Luther King day, they're not showing respect? REALLY?

To those who disagree with the school closing;
They can stop the honoring of Washington's Birthday, Lincoln's Birthday, etc., and lump them into one BIG WHITE LINEN SALE but we're not respecting MLK, Jr. in ONE AREA because the kids needed that school day?

Imagine if they had a White Sale on MLK Jr.'s special remembrance day? WOW, that would be THE LIMIT.

Yes, our little white kids are taught to hate themselves and given nothing for which to feel proud. Great job, public schools, just GREAT job.

Ticker, no..his own sons don't heed his advice, but his niece sure does, doesn't she.

Racism will never go away because the Left has to have those votes and only keeping Black kids DOWN will keep them voting for hand-outs...how sickening. HOw UN MLK, Jr.

I've been on this planet for total of 62 years.
I've witnessed the killing of JFK as a sophomore in High School.
It was 1963 and me and my family decided to drive 300 miles to DC where we stood in front of the US Capitol and saw John Junior salute his fathers casket...in 17 degree weather. My dad hoisted me upon the wall so I could see this tragic moment in history.

JFK was a Catholic...so were we. And he as all we hoped for.

Then...a short time later...I stood by the RR tracks as RFK's body sped by on the way to DC.

I've watched the aftermath of him being gun downed. I've seen the realities of Manson and Helter Skelter. I've seen the same look in the eyes of this latest murderer Jared Loughner. I've also seen the same look in the eyes of James Earl Ray.

I saw these same things in the eyes of my fellow soldiers after laying their lives on the line for 1 year tours since 1964.

And I have visited the "virtual wall" to pay homage and tears for many of my friends, classmates...who volunteered for their country...and died with less than 6 months in country.

I've listened to the Mark Rudds...the Bill Ayers...the Abbie Hoffmans spill their guts with hate for America.

And now...the Rudds , Kerrys, Jane Fondas and Ayers have been resurrected sages? As professors? As teachers? When they are the same ones that my war hero friends tried to stop in 1966?

We had to go 10,000 miles to fight the vermin? And then we see...they're still among us under the protective wing of the..."Messiah".

( This is maybe why...I hate America today...because we've allowed this cancer to exist and it just continues on...)

I witnessed the aftermath of the of assassination MLK. I saw cities burn down..Newark, LA...many places.

I've seen history in the making and unfolding before my once young eyes.

And honestly...I see no change for the positive after these long hard 47 years.

My sincere belief....is that America is lost. That America must undergo so many fundamental changes...to save ourselves.

Right now...I hate America...because she is floudering and is lost. Because she has lost the direction of the founders.

God...save America...Please.

I agree with Redwood...we CAN never be the same.
In the past, people would say "Well, the pendulum will swing back.. it always does". Yes, it does when the kids still love and believe in our country and its heroes. They don't today.
Read OPus' comment, the first on this thread.
We're TEACHING our kids to hate America under the ridiculous leftist guise of THEY SHOULD KNOW, HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY!...rubbish, I say.
Let them LOVE AMERICA first, as we were taught to do by seeing the great she did, and, when they're old enough to digest and consider it, THEN teach them slavery, etc...... THEN, when they love this country and can see slavery as what WAS, not hate whites today for it, as Opus said the teachers have obviously taught those poor, lost kids....a whole couple of lost generations is what America is now.
If it wasn't for the Tea Party, I think Soros/Obama, etc., would have won even bigger than they are. The left underestimated the power of those of us who KNOW AMERICA, or KNEW her, and will stand up for the Constitution and fight SOcialism.........they underestimated by probably 10, 15 years...when more of us will be gone and the kids are ripe for socialism.

If we don't get to our kids TODAY, we're sunk. And that is NOT going to happen, not in large enough numbers....homeschooling's the only hope and we know that's miniscule.

A communist, a plagiarist and sex addict who was compulsively unfaithful to his wife with an endless series of white women. NOT a saint. NOT a martyr. NOT a hero. NOT a good role model for anyone's children.

Martin Luther King was NOT a communist.

"If I lived in a Communist country today where certain principles dear to the Christian faith are suppressed, I believe I would openly advocate disobeying these anti-religious laws." - Martin Luther King, Letter from the Birmingham Jail, April 16, 1963

Martin Luther King was no plagiarist. Although his doctoral thesis does fail to thoroughly footnote and cite references within the work, these references do appear in its bibiliography, quite an indication that that his footnoting was incomplete and not an indication that he was attempting to pass words off as his own.

I do not know, nor care, what attitude Martin Luther King had towards sex though it is likely the unsubstantiable smears upon him that are dressed up in the progressive left eugenicist fears of miscegenation that fueled both Nazi Race Laws in Europe and Jim Crow racism in America are more the product of mendacious cross-dressing homosexual Mafia pawns like J. Edgar Hoover and his zeal for illegal wiretap surveillance in the name of collecting damaging materials to exploit political enemies with than anything with an actual basis in reality. The Kennedy brothers and Johnson could not successfully smear MLK as a Communist, so they attempted to destroy his marriage instead, all the while playing on the same failed racist fears of white women having romantic relationships with black men that Democrat Alton Parker tried to use as a campaign tactic against President Theodore Roosevelt in the 1904 election. (Democrats produced a button that showed their presidential nominee, Alton Parker, beside a white couple while Roosevelt posed with a white bride and black groom. The button read: "The Choice Is Yours."}

It's a sad state of affairs that almost 43 years after MLK was gunned down, agents of the left are still trying to kill him.

Z said...

actually, the plagiarizing might have been more than that on his dissertation, from what I"ve read, but I'm totally with you on the rest.
And, I lifted things from others' on papers, too, very infrequently...usually, I footnoted but sometimes it just seemed dumb and pointless as it made my point, whether I wrote it or not :-)

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Z,

The argument for MLK for being a plagiarist, usually proffered by the remnant, last vestiges of Old Left / New Deal dead-enders from the Democratic Party's Ku Klux Klan terrorist wing (nowadays primarily a fundraising apparatus of Ron and Rand Paul campaigns) is that MLK's "I have a dream" speech touched on themes and phraseology first used by black pastor Archibald Carey in an 1952 address to the Republican National Convention, back when Democrats were deathly afraid of being seen in the same room with a black man.

An attitude unfortunately still alive today, as our resident racist FeebThinky exemplifies.

Redwood, since December 23, 1913 the socialists have won many battles against freedom in America. Many seemingly permanent social programs have been put into place.

It is good news that the Tea Party are looking further back than the 1900s for guidance in righting America's course.

It is good news that some of our young people, my own children included, read our blogs, think about issues in a way that is not pre-digested by MSNBC, and begin to question the liberal pundits that 4 years ago got a free pass.

It is good news that many patriots are awake to the dangers that face us and we realize there is no place left for us to hide. We must fight for a free America. We have no choice.

It is good news that majorities in many, many states voted in a conservative manner in 2010 so as to conserve what is left of this great country.

It is good news that our eyes are opening to foreign threats to our nation.

It is good that many Americans see Israel as a place to be cherished and protected.

It is good that women in America have much real freedom. Women can choose to stay single and make good money in most any job in the workforce if we desire. Women can choose to marry and stay home and raise kids if we desire and if we can arrange it. Women can breastfeed or bottle feed, cloth diaper or paper, eat fast food or organic.

I love America. I fear for America. I mourn for America.

I enroll my boys in scouting programs so they can be with families that love and revere America.

My son was reading the scouting creed and said, "reverent? Don't they mean irreverent?" "No, they mean reverent." And I had to explain to him what that word meant. There are still ways to combat the forces of liberal socialism in our families.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

What people need to understand is that throughout history, attitudes and beliefs miscalled "progressive" by leftists have always had an expiration date, born as they are of rapidly decomposing intellectual dung left to stink on the shifting sands of populism.

Sometimes these failed "progressive" leftist views to construct a centrally planned, racially homogenous, anti-miscegenation utopian eugenicist "Great Society" lingers long enough over a generation for their hardline lynch mob fascism to be wistfully recalled as "the good ol' days" while their children and grandchildren have long since begun to dance to more funky drummers.

Sometimes these Old Leftists think clinging to failed ideology makes them politically "conservative." They would do well to consult one of the founders of neo-liberal / conservative thought, Sir Edmund Burke, who said "Conservatives eschew ideology." They may just come to discard their pie-in-the-sky "keep n*gg*rs off the golf course or civilization will fall" style rhetoric and figure out conservatism is far more libertarian than their transient, social engineering experiments born of concocted, pseudoscientific prejudices.

That they're irrational enough to cognitively dissonate between screaming to keep money out of politics and to keep minorities away from their lunch counters is proof enough that their trains of thought lack a coal car. They're leftists.

A conservative student of history can pick up the scent of leftist thought easy enough.

Z,

I was talking about the endless attacks on Martin Luther King that falter under scrutiny and the source of them. Expositions upon the "MLK was a plagiarist" smear invariably include King's echoing of Rev. Carey, as if being a proponent of conservative Christian beliefs in the Republican Party were some noxious, abhorrent thing because it came from the mouths of black men.

As you know, my grandfather and his family (including my father) were assaulted and terrorized in the 1950s and 1960s by progressive left-wing New Deal DemoKKKrats employing the firebomb and dynamite terror tactics of their early 20th Century anarchist and Mafia-backed labor activist progenitors against any Republican attempting to register black people to vote. My grandfather's business was burned to the ground and his home riddled with bullets and shotgun pellets because of his efforts to enfranchise blacks to vote.

This is why I reflexively cringe and speak out whenever I hear or read people trying to smear Martin Luther King. People who would have been manning Bull Connor's firehoses on civil rights demonstrators while my grandfather's business burned.

Far sicker to me than Old Left miscalled "paleoconservatism" of snide racist pontifications is the New Left revisions of history. My 4th Grade Alabama History teacher tried to push the idea that Bull Connor was a Republican. Never mind pushing NEA propaganda on elementary kids in the classroom as early as 1979 - 1980, my 4th Grade Alabama History teacher was old enough to have been there, much less able to discover Bull Connor was still until recently an active Democrat in Alabama politics then (in 1980)! Bull Connor had died as a Democrat in good standing in 1973.

I loved my grandfather dearly. He truly was a page of living history. Not only did he go to work at an early age in the middle of the Great Depression, he was in the command communications unit attached to the Jewish-American General Maurice Rose's very tip of the Spearhead of armored divisions under Patton that crushed the Nazis on their own soil. And then he came home and became a live-by-example champion of civil rights, voting rights, and Christian charity.

One of my last, tearful conversations with him was back in 2003, when some French leftist had spraypainted "America Come Dig Up Your Garbage" on the gates of the war cemetery at Normandy. We were talking about the war in Iraq, and he asked me to define the then currently vogue "neoconservative" term and label, which is basically the new way to disparage Reagan-supporting ex-Democrats who never went back to their original party and anti-Communist Jews. We agreed that the paleocon / neocon distinction is essentially manufactured by left-wing and cryptoleftist propagandists, and that rightism stops at egalitarian, libertarian affirmations and defense of personal freedom and property rights and becomes leftist departing from that. He was particularly impressed by noting the clear lineage between Hitler's national socialist thought and Saddam Hussein's national socialist thought and even the ever leftward marching Democratic Party's national socialist thought. He'd scream bloody murder over allegedly right-wing activists trying to defend "their welfare system" from immigrants. Like me, he couldn't find the welfare system in the Constitution.

No, these men were not garbage, and they weren't the progressive leftists and cryptoleftists today trying to pass themselves off as "true conservatives" today. They're the embarassing kissing cousins of the left-wing's woodshed that they send forth trying to discredit actual right-wing groups. The vanguard of left-wing populism. How long was the national socialist Pat Buchanan the stand-in marionette strawman conservative on left-wing bias news talk shows before conservatives built their own media to counter the smears?

Papaw couldn't stand Pat Buchanan either, and that was long before Moonbat Pat's left-wing anti-Semitic Hitler apologisms were in-your-face.

I hope I have even half of the keen political instincts of my grandfather. He was damned-near prophetic.

FOUR POINTS TO PONDER

1. It might be wise at least to consider the possibility that the loudest and most persistent voice is not always the one to heed.

2. n Shakespeare's Julius Caesar was it Mark Anthony or Brutus who gave the better speech? Notice please I did not say the more effective, I said the better -- a vitally important distinction.

3. It's never a good idea to let others define terms for you. It's always better to do your own research, think things over for yourself, and then draw your own conclusions.

4. And as Max Ehrmann famously said [in Desiderata]:

”As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.”

"jesus-is-savior.com" is quite a repository of crank anti-Semitic and anti-government UFO conspiracy literature, most of which is cross-hosted by and linked to widely discredited left-wing national socialist / white supremacist websites, like the neo-Nazi stormfront.org, which also proudly hosts "martinlutherking.org."

"lewrockwell.com" is of course the anti-Semitic, white nationalist website of Ron Paul's former congressional chief of staff and speechwriter responsible for ghostwriting the racist garbage appearing in Paul's newsletters in the early 1980s.

"snopes.com" has a decidedly left-wing bias, but along with "truthorfiction.com" doesn't appear to have the overtly and proudly racist cryptoleftist connections of the other websites.

Time, perhaps, to study a bit of vocabulary.

BULLY: n. A noisy, blustering, overbearing fellow, more distinguished for insolence and empty menace than for courage, and disposed to provoke quarrels.

An overbearing ruffian, especially a coward who abuses his strength by ill treating those he thinks defenseless

BULLY: v.t. To insult and attempt to hold sway with persistent noise and blustering menace.

To harass and repeatedly attempt to discourage and humiliate those perceived as vulnerable with scorn.

To abuse others verbally in an attempt to control their actions or change their beliefs

ARROGANCE: n. 1. The act or quality of taking much upon one's self 2. That species of pride which consists in exorbitant claims of rank, dignity, estimation or power, or which exalts the worth or importance of the person to an undue degree 3. Proud contempt of others; conceitedness; presumption.

No matter how loudly and persistently one portrays his opinion as fact that does not move his argument beyond the realm of vociferous opinionating.

Sometimes God speaks to us in "a still, small voice." Often that is so much more persuasive and more apt to be heard than thundering utterances of contempt and condemnation.

Alinsky's Rules for Radicals advise would be activists to disregard all accepted ideas of proper decorum, and become noisy, abusive, disruptive and intransigent -- the idea being to OUT SHOUT those one is attempting to destroy --, NEVER admit you might be wrong, NEVER show the opposition ANY respect, NEVER give the opposition ANY credence whatsoever, and NEVER NEVER NEVER back down no matter what evidence contrary to your position the opposition tries to present.

Radicals callously DISREGARD all known rules of decent, dignified conduct and allow themselves to become FERAL in their all-out attempt to dominate others into accepting the radical's point of view.

In other words they achieve victory by ATTRITION. The power of Reason is abandoned in favor of a strategy of overwhelming brute force.

And IF by any remote chance the radical is caught in his web of aggressive assertions and clearly shown to be wrong, he often loudly resorts to BATHOS -- portraying HIMSELF as a noble, innocent victim of malice and unfair treatment.

Ignoble -- NOT civilized -- conduct.

And THIS is what has taken over the western world. No wonder we're sliding into the Abyss!

FT, Suck it up and try to prove the points Beamish disagrees with...that's the best we've got. Nobody needs a lecture and countless definitions ...
Thanks so much.

Z, your profound bias shows a mile, and makes this a very unpleasant place to try to have serious discussions about things that truly matter.

I'm sorry you feel as you do, but apparently there's nothing I can do about it. Your propensity for wrist slapping and your application of multiple standards make this atmosphere insufferable.

If you think I can't spot a Good Cop-Bad Cop routine when it's used on me, you're wrong.

Sorry you're ill, but a captious and censorious disposition may very well be contributing to your suffering.

Take care,

~ FT

irony:
1: a pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another assumed in order to make the other's false conceptions conspicuous by adroit questioning —called also Socratic irony

2a : the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning
b : a usually humorous or sardonic literary style or form characterized by irony
c : an ironic expression or utterance

3a (1) : incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result
(2) : an event or result marked by such incongruity b : incongruity between a situation developed in a drama and the accompanying words or actions that is understood by the audience but not by the characters in the play —called also dramatic irony, tragic irony

examples of irony:

Attempting to pontificate upon arrogance by offering a dictionary definition of "arrogance" to a literate audience.

Attempting to bolster one's case and defense of making racist smears on Martin Luther King with innocuous appearing URL links that go straight to white supremacist operated websites.

...that raise money for Ron Paul.

I've said it many times, and I won't stop saying it. Leftists are incapable of rational thought.

It is good of you, Z, to allow leftists like FeebThinky and Ducky to post here. But I'm not going to stop pointing out their progressive leftist, elitist, racist striving for the "eternal revolution."

And oh yeah Z, stop being the bad cop. It's my turn to turn the Zionist world domination hypno-screw.
