GOD and GUNS
You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right.
You might not believe in God. That is your choice.
However, if someone breaks into your home the first two things you are going to do are:
1) Call someone with a gun.
2) Pray they get there in time.
If you didn't have a gun (I don't)...what would YOU do if your window was being opened?

Under Missouri law, I can kill anyone in my house that does not live there as long as they are in my house, do not live there, and I can afford the attorney that can convince a jury it was self-defense.
So, someone climbing in my window is getting pulled all the way inside the house a few seconds before they get shot or stabbed to death. Same as an unruly party guest or pushy door-to-door salesman.
1. I don't understand how God enters the issue.Believers and non-believers will be robbed.
2. People calling for gun control are not calling for eliminating handguns for home defense.
3. If I were home, very unlikely, I would do the sensible thing and not resist.
Ducky, it's a little humor; loosen up.
No gun? Doesn't apply to this household, that's for sure.
But I'll abide by the rules of the question....
If somebody were opening a window other than my bedroom window, I'd throw the dead bolt on my bedroom door and call 911 with my cell phone. Were somebody opening my bedroom window, I guess that I'd grab my cell phone, with me at all times, and flee.
But I have my handgun with me whenever I'm home. Having been burglarized in 2009 (I wasn't home at the time), I keep the .38 handy.
Can't help it, z.
Three feet of Nemo has me in a worse mood than usual.
Man, this was one serious bad ass.
People calling for gun control are not calling for eliminating handguns for home defense.
If you need a $100 license to simply BUY a handgun, as they are now proposing in MD, they ARE calling for an elimination of handguns for home defense (at least for poor people). In 1975 I bought a .41 magnum with holster for $50... so a 200% tax is MORE than unreasonable.
Handguns are for rich people ONLY!
Look at it this way, FJ, poor people don't have as much o defend as poor people do, ergo rich people have a greater need for guns.
Of course if the leftists -- and The Oligarchs -- get their way, there won't BE any more rich people to bitch about.
After they've finally been eliminated, however will we find a focus for our hostility? ;-)
Of coarse, FT... handguns should be the exclusive province of skeet shooting BUPPIES, ONLY!
When seconds count, the cops are minutes away.
Only time in was in a similar situation, I had an apartment with roof windows and a guy was walking on the roof at night while my large window was open. He could have gotten in. I had a baseball bat and was ready to strike if he had attempted something.

As usual the left would make things unaffordable to the people who have less money.
It's amazing to me that nobody gets it. Higher gas prices, higher food prices, overinflated real estate by creating a bubble (affordable housing, low interest rates). The more rules, the more subsidies, the higher the prices.
As I'd like to say in French, "le socialisme est au social ce que le moralisme est a la moral."

Z - I'd probably die of fright.
A Leftist would ask the individual in, sit him down at his table and discuss his plight over a nice, steaming cappuccino.
After all, everyone, when approached calmly, can be reasoned with.
BZ
Cappuccino? Nah, a double espresso.
Colorado has, and has had, what's known as the "Make My Day" law which allows deadly force if one is threatened in their home. Although I'm well equiped to handle such a situation, I hope that I never have to. The very idea of having to clean up all of that blood and, perhaps having to patch up walls, etc turns me off!!!
Handguns are for rich people ONLY!
It is the same with all Constitutional rights. The Constitution doesn't apply to people who make less than $350,000 a year.
If I didn't have a gun, and the window was being opened, I'd ask my wife to wake me up, because it's obviously a bad dream.
Of course, I could ask her for hers, unless she was busy using it at the time.
And as to Duck's comment about self defense:
"People calling for gun control are not calling for eliminating handguns for home defense."
Explain that to Chicago residents.
and D.C. residents pre-Heller.
Any gun control.
ANY is a step in the wrong direction.
Keep (not have taken away) and Bear (have on me whenever I want) Arms (weapons, any weapons used in a martial event).
So simple a caveman...
Ducky: "... I would do the sensible thing and not resist."
Ha! Ha! Ha! You actually think that's the sensible thing! Ha! Ha! Ha!
We'll miss you, Ducky...in the same way I miss the wart I used to have on my little finger.
FrogBurger: "...I had a baseball bat..."
Did you have a license to carry and use that bat?
Ducky, tell me about it; can you get your place warm enough when it's THAT chilled outside?
Are you on a top floor so your windows are clear/ no pile up outside?
I can't imagine that downfall...I've lived in snow in Munich and Paris but never a big dump.
It was windy so it must be LOUD? I remember when the snow lightly fell in Europe, I'd love the utter quiet of the streets as cars went by on snow.......a lovely hushing sound.
ConsonFire..what a terrific way to put it!
Joe, Frogburger:
I also own a "personal defense baseball bat".
If I ever assault someone with it, it will be an "assault weapon".
I do, and I do. I would call 911 then pray over his cooling corpse.
Did you have a license to carry and use that bat?
No but so you know baseball bats are not allowed in the streets in France.
I don't have a license for my knives and forks either.
FrogBurger
People who use a cream pie for celebrities, is the cream pie considered an assault weapon?

"If you didn't have a gun (I don't)...what would YOU do if your window was being opened?"
The people in the home would be abused at the whim of the invader. What if they come through the door and you can't even get to a phone.
But it's a free country. People can choose to not be able to defend themselves, but don't make that decision for me.
I'm thinking seriously now of having all the openings to my house -- windows and doors -- turned into booby traps that produce an electric shock powerful enough to knock a would-be assailant to the ground, and render him unconscious -- or possibly dead.
Trouble is I -- or someone I loved -- would probably be the first person to get killed trying to reenter my house.
How about Automatic Mace Emission devices installed on every window that spray on contact?
The worst part is that all of this costs MONEY, and is probably every bit as illegal as guns they'd love to ban. But I can dream, can't I?
Well, if the window was being opened, our security system would be announcing which window, so they would hear that, and hopefully, flee...meanwhile, the police should be on the way, anyway.
If for some reason the security system failed, we would defend our home with our 'other' security system.
I think we all should be as responsible for our own protection as possible.
Even my 92 year old aunt who lives alone keeps her gun permit up to date, and keeps her gun at the ready, and is not afraid to use it.
I'd rather have one and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
