So, most of you heard Obama's speech and Rubio's rebuttal............
Did you think there were some high points to Obama's speech or do you have such disdain or disbelief in everything he says to take any of it seriously?
How'd you like Rubio's speech?
I think John King of CNN was right when he said the SOTU speech is always received pretty well... and it's easy to speak among cheering fans. He admitted the rebuttal's a bear....staring at a camera with 15 minutes in which to get your points across and trying to hit just the right tone.
What are your thoughts? We had some good comments last night on the post below, but I couldn't not discuss it here today and I hope you weigh in.
Also...as I said in the comments section of yesterday's post, isn't it astonishing that all the stations were so interested in breaking into SOTU coverage to breathlessly cover the cop killer when, today, N Korea's third nuclear test was successful and the fact that China will be all too pleased to allow them to use its air space to ship whatever Iran might need to continue its nuclear program?
Typical American television.......typical dumbed down Americans.
HERE is a link that shows where Obama was off base.......
Thoughts on any or all of this?

Better Rubio than anyone else.
It's the standard Bully Pulpit.

"So, most of you heard Obama's speech and Rubio's rebuttal............"
That's quite an assumption given what I've read elsewhere.
I couldn't bear to watch.
And Rubio? No habla espanol.
Last night the arrogant King Barack offered us the same old Crap-Sandwich that he did last time around and the time before that. It was very predictable, blame the Republicans for his failure(s), Class Warfare, the usual demonizing of the opposition party, making excuses for his lame way of handling the radical Islamist's .... then Blame Bush.
That should tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about Obozo
If you look up failure in the dictionary you'll find a picture of Barack Hussein Obozo.
Sure he was very big on promise's once again, only he never to us how he's going to any of these things with a 16 Trillion Deficit. So the bottom line is that he was lying through his teeth... as usual. How about the the cost of his programs?
I hope that the Slugs who voted for this Failure are satisfied now.
See Dana Milbank's recent essay on the SOTU Address.
In case you missed it: Three years after the White House arranged a hero's welcome at the State of the Union address for the Fort Hood police sergeant and her partner who stopped the deadly shooting there, Kimberly Munley says President Obama broke the promise he made to her that the victims would be well taken care of.
"Betrayed is a good word," former Sgt. Munley told ABC News in a tearful interview to be broadcast tonight on "World News with Diane Sawyer" and "Nightline."
"Not to the least little bit have the victims been taken care of," she said. "In fact they've been neglected."
There was no immediate comment from the White House...
WORDS, just words with no substance; same $#!t different night!
He seemed to promise everything.
Let's bring jobs back onshore and sign free trade agreements.
Well, which is it.
I think there were more contradictory ideas and he will continue to be right/center.
Rubio was as dynamic as a fart. If that is the future of the Republican party, hunker down.
I did something else. Life without watching politics on TV for a few weeks is a lot better. Glad I still have the blog.
FrogBurger
BZ....Rubio has a bright future, I think.
Ed...I don't mean having sat and watched, but if someone's not seen a lot of it on the news or read about what he said, that someone's not awake yet this morning!
I must have missed more of Rubio than I thought because I missed the Spanish.....there wasn't any Spanish in any of what I saw he spoke; when did he speak Spanish?
Redneck...HOW can leftists believe that EVERYTHING IS PAID FOR?
And that lying joke Lew who's in confirmation hearings today (I WISH I could watch) said nothing Obama's doing will raise the debt a few years back. And THIS is the guy he appoints? He's also got money in the Cayman Islands...odd, Romney did, and the lefties went NUTS but it's FINE for their guy.
ConsonFire..worst than a circus, I think!
AOW..will read it when I can.
Think Sawyer will show that? Let's see. Insult her hero? Not sure.
JB..those words are going to hurt us so badly.
Ducky...DYnamic isn't what we need. Americans need empathy and Rubio had it in spades (if we're still allowed to say that word)..
I wish he was Right/Center....nothing right/center about spending, spending, spending.
wow Obama really read off the tel-prompter well. Apparently that is what the uninformed need ,to be read a bedtime story so they can dream of castles and knights in shining armor, hopefully keeping them in a continual fantasy world.
I got tired of yelling at the TV, and turned it off. In doing so, I did not see Marco Rubio, either.
Guess I threw the baby out with the bathwater, huh Z?
I wonder how people will views these facts from Investors Daily on the state of the deficit under President Obama?
http://news.investors.com/blogs-capital-hill/021213-644063-chart-should-embarrass-deficit-hawks.htm#ixzz2KnFXoH2g
SOTU and Rubio?
PHEW!
Fredd, I think you did! :-)
Lisa...The fact is he's dreaming! $25 billion a YEAR for mandatory PreK? WHERE is he getting the money? WHERE??? Not to mention everything else!
Dave, I agree, the deficit isn't always that important...except that it's not good and will leave our children strapped for YEARS AND YEARS.
Sadly, the CBO reports that Obamacare is going to cost MUCH more than he's told us, and there are other situations where spending just must stop. I doubt even a liberal wouldn't understand that; except they keep listening to Obama's promises and never seem to ask where the money's coming from.
FT..."Phew?" I couldn't watch the SOTU, but watched about half of Rubio and it was worth it, once he apparently had a drink of water and his dry mouth smacking could stop!
EVERYONE...when did the Spanish seep in? I didn't hear any at all.
Dave, the reason I say this is that the smartest man I about ever knew was my father, a staunch Conservative, who did feel the deficit was not a huge problem. Of course, it was about 20 trillion dollars less before he died. He had good reasons for that thinking.
Republicans really don't think as one monolith; just watch FOX v CNN or MSNBC. It's evident.
Who cares! How about his spending like a Crazy idiot that is hell bent on ruining the Nation!
Anonymous...how about reading the comments? :-) We're ALL with you!
But, gee...what's TWENTY-FIVE BILLION A YEAR FOR MANDATORY PRESCHOOL? right?
And, by the way, what will happen to Christian Preschools? In California, when Arnold was gov, there was a push for mandatory state-paid pre K...we all know what that means to any curriculum. It'll be "only the state message gets spewed."
When UCLA bought Santa Monica Hospital, the first thing that went, after 50 years, was the Bibles from patients' bedside tables. instantly...the edict was GET RID OF THEM.
Think they'll have Jesus in preschools even if the parents WANT IT if the school becomes supported by THE STATE?
Man "THE STATE"...when did this happen to AMERICA and how did even liberals allow it?
Dave..by the way...
In the Milbank article AlwaysOn Watch linked, it says "Obama pronounced himself 'halfway towards the goal of $4 trillion in deficit reduction that ECONOMICSTS SAY WE NEED TO STABILIZE OUR FINANCES'."
There are different ways of looking at almost everything; which is why OUR FINANCES are so screwed up in the first place.
I could not sit through Obama's speech. As to Rubio, I think he is good - now. But like so many before him, if he allows the Republican leadership to change him, he wont' be much of a candidate in 2016. He must stand firm.

Debbie, I agree with you.
I worry about that with Paul Ryan, too.
I'm not sure I'm a fan of Rand Paul but I think that's one guy who won't let the establishment change him one bit.
I like to think Ryan and Rubio won't, either, but we've all thought that before.
It's going to take independent thought to deal with illegals, jobs, etc., and we don't have it in the Democrat party so I'm hoping our young and inspired Republicans start talking and getting the message out there...except they don't get heard much...unless they grab for a glass of water, then the lefty journalists talk about them with derision :-)
I spoke to a Conservative who's trying to get journalists out there who'll tell both sides of the story and they can't get hired if they don't echo the Leftwing line ...boy, was that a depressing thing to hear.
We need thinkers..not echoers.
Hey Radical, you need to go a little easy on the President. He may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he does have Bill Clinton's talent for obfuscating, and we need to recognize that he is world class in whining.
Ducky identifies something interesting about jobs vs NAFTA. The problem is, Ducky, that with or without these free trade agreements, our standard of living will still tend towards the global average. It is a train we cannot stop, and the Obama administration has all the wrong ideas. The agreements could be OK if our economy were more productive. Productivity will no0t increase during the current administration, and wages/salaries are diminishing. This is your Democrat party at work.
Bob, it's such a mess and Obama makes it look like all's in control...
And the Republicans are out for lunch; permanently. THey whine and moan and groan and do NOTHING.
Even these appointment hearings are utter rubbish. As if ANYTHING Republicans had to say or vote would count?
What do those travesties cost us?
I watched the whole thing, and what ticked me off the most was his conclusion,
"... We are citizens. It’s a word that doesn’t just describe our nationality or legal status. It describes the way we’re made. It describes what we believe..."
Citzen... comrade. It's all the same thing to Obambino. That does NOT describe how "I'm made".
I would rather be a citizen than a subject, DaBlade.
Andie
He blathered on with the usual lies from the right. 'Obama hates free enterprise' right after Obama spoke about growing free enterprise. He hates big government yet he mentioned over and over how his family benefited with government aid.
He Jindel-ed himself.
glug, glug, glug, glug, Lo!
Libmann, don't look now but that's what thinkers do; they come at subjects from all sides.
Our problems need someone like Rubio who understands that Americans do have needs and, also, that big government's a nightmare...
It's libs like you who just want to keep giving and giving until the pot's empty and then you'll be asking "what happened? You mean Rubio was RIGHT? DAMN"
ya
By the way, Rubio's family didn't have their big fat palms out for freebies; he specifically said his grandmother needed Medicare and he got his college education with gov't funds; do you know many who can't fill that bill?
THINK before you criticize; it's important and you'll look somewhat smarter.
maybe :-)
Another campaign speech from obama. It's all he knows how to do. Worthless really. The destruction of America on all levels continues.
Rubio. I think he's just in it for the self-enrichment like the rest of them. Buy my book eh?
The repubs are worthless and are actually insulting with their lip service now. Boehner- repeal obamacare.. Good Grief. obama will resign before that happens.
Sorry Z, the entire political body is less than useless now. I know it's depressing but unfounded optimism can be even more damaging.
I wasn't ignoring your question, Z.
I've been busy.
I had heard from a number of sources that Rubio was going to speak also in Spanish.
I've no use for that, or for the guy that would do it.
It appears he did:

Very sadly, I have to agree with you, Kid.
My store of optimism about the possibility of achieving good government has dried up and blown away.
The election still feels like a knife in my chest. The pain may never go away, yet I must live on.
As far as I'm concerned, my only hope is in further developing a rich INTERIOR life -- trying to get closer and closer each day to the Holy Spirit, which infuses all truly worthwhile things.
Nations come and go. Empires rise and fall, but LIFE (God) persists always, so we must devote ourselves to strengthening and refining the quality of our personal thoughts and activities no mater what our surroundings be.
Heaven will NEVER be achieved here on earth, because it's not SUPPOSED to be that way. We're here to learn and grow.
We learn most from making creative use of adversity.
He also said that he needs control of the Internet - For The U.N. to take our free speech away.
Also China is demanding it and the gun control (confiscation/magazines limited to only a few rounds=no new gun purchases, manufacturers will not retool for a smaller capacity hand gun magazine-thus outlawing 30 percent of hand guns), and China is demanding real-estate purchases, you can see Obama The Indonesian Step Child making these concessions in his wish list State Of The Union Address.
He also said that he needs control of the Internet - For The U.N. to take our free speech away.
-------
I must have missed that.
I would have expected he would have also said he's working with the U.N. to send blue helmets to confiscate your guns.
It would almost be worth it to let Obama have his way with us, if only to get the satisfaction of seeing the Quacker stewing in his own juice.

With ALL the outrageous, and dumb programs proposed by Obama in his outrageous, and State of Union, the only thing that some of these MORONIC Progressives such as Shaw Kenawe could think about blogging was that Marco Rubio was drinking water from a bottle. Who cares! Who cares about what the FOOLS on the Radical Left care about. I guess that they must not care about the president’s NOT keeping his oath, because they never blog about that!
But instead they are freaking out about Marco Rubio was drinking water from a bottle.
I thought he came off as very sincere and that’sa hell of a lot more than I can say for Barrack Hussein Obama!
The lame stream, media doesn’t seem to care, but Marco Rubio did! Marco Rubio is more real than Obama can ever be
The president said a bunch of things that sounded really good. If only he truly meant them...
Z said..."Libmann, don't look now but that's what thinkers do; they come at subjects from all sides."
..
And in your case you 'come from all side' til you're spinning like a top!
